* A little more than halfway through L.A. Confidential, officer Bud White becomes convinced that police lieutenant Edmund Exley got the wrong guys in the Nite Owl Massacre. (A seemingly botched robbery of a late night diner that turned into killing all of the staff and customers who were there at the time). Because the case made Exley famous and White (who utterly despises Exley at that point in the film), believes Exley is a backstabbing, ambitious man who doesn't actually care about justice but only advancing his career, White doesn't even consider going to Exley to talk about his suspicions. Instead White starts investigating the case on his own. At about the same time, Exley also realizes that he got the wrong guys and starts looking into the case to find the real killers, only to be frustrated and suspicious when it seems like White has already checked into every lead Exley tries to follow. For awhile Exley even seems to suspect White of being corrupt and acting on behalf of the conspiracy that is actually responsible for the massacre.

Technically, nobody expected there to be a Time Reset when the game was over, so this doesn't count.

* In Film/Jumanji, Judy and Peter's main motivation to continue playing the game is to "make it all go away" before their aunt returns and sees that their house is wrecked. They, nor anyone else playing, don't realize that because they are playing a game that has been going on for decades,

* Reservation Road is a drama about Dwight, a lawyer and divorced father who accidentally kills a young boy, Josh, in a hit-and-run car accident. After Josh's father Ethan becomes increasingly consumed with making sure whoever killed his son gets proper justice after learning that those sorts of people don't serve very long prison sentences, he decides to see a lawyer in order to back up his case, and by sheer coincidence ends up hiring Dwight. This leads to a few moments of dramatic irony, such as when Ethan says that he can't remember what the perpetrator looked like but probably would recognize him if he saw a picture of him, while said perpetrator is sitting right across from him.
