* OdangoHair: When she wears a swimsuit or a qipao she styles her hair into a pair of buns; practicality in the first case and fashion for the second.

* CallingTheOldWomanOut: In one of his harsher moments, Ryuuji calls his mom out on getting pregnant at a young age and giving her education up, and trying to control Ryuuji's life to make him her idea of successful without caring what he wants to do with his own life. He instantly regrets it upon seeing her cry but doesn't apologise. {{Justified}} in that living vicariously through a loved one without taking their desires into account is a mistake Ryuuji himself makes earlier in the series, [[spoiler: pressuring Taiga into giving into her father's begging for another chance without knowing the whole story, because he wants to meet his father more than almost anything in the world and projects onto Taiga, a mistake which wound up with her buying fully into her father's manipulations, becoming consumed with her relationship with him and being completely heartbroken to realise yet again that her father doesn't care for her.]]

* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: He is extremely dense when it comes to relationships, considering how he trusted Taiga's father regardless of what everyone (including his mother) thinks. The fact he's not good at reading people is due to his social issues and essentially FriendlessBackground because of his FaceOfAThug, but he still manages to be very kind and compassionate.

** With Ami as well, heavy on vitriol at the start but more like best buds toward the end. Taiga even likens Ami to a dog ("stupid chihauhau") the same way she does with Ryuuji.

* ThePollyanna: Seriously. [[spoiler:The only time she breaks down in tears is when Ryuuji got mad at her near the end of the series on a sensitive issue.]] Otherwise, she is always cheerful and says thing will work out.

* LonelyRichKid: She's the daughter of a wealthy family, but due to some serious family issues she has to live alone and her parents never bother to check on her, only sending her the money she needs to feed herself. Before Ryuuji started helping her, she was pretty much on her own and her only friend was Minori.

* HairTriggerTemper: She gets extremely angry easily and with minimal provocation, and usually deals with it by resorting to using some students as a punching bag.

* ZettaiRyouiki: The first opening even has a [[{{Fanservice}} gratituous shot of her pulling on black thigh-high stockings]]. She has Rank A, because she never puts her hair into twin tails.

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: After all, he's still a StockLightNovelHero. He's always willing to help others.

* TheHero: While this is not an action series, Ryuuji is still a really kind-hearted and heroic guy, and as a StockLightNovelHero he's always ready to help others.

* StockLightNovelHero: A pure SliceOfLife variant, but still definitely a hero... ChronicHeroSyndrome? Check. Altruistic even to a fault? Yes. Rather shy and/or introverted? Check. And of course he's calm, a very NiceGuy, and actually a ChickMagnet.

* AnimalMotifs: The chihuahua (Taiga calls her "stupid chihuahua"). It's rather ironic, because a chihuahua is a ''palm-top dog''.
