* AngryChef: The palace chef to Prince Eric, and seems no worse than eccentric as he sings "Les Poissons" while preparing stuffed crab as an entree. However, once Sebastian goes rogue, all Louis's sanity goes out the window, and he embarks on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge that obliterates the palace kitchen.

* AdaptationalBadass: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. He is saved by Ariel like in the novel. For almost all of the film otherwise ''he'' is rescuing her or other people.

* HugeGuyTinyGirl: With Ariel. When she's in her human form, it becomes quite notable how petite she is in comparison to Eric's tall and broad physique. Some examples that show Ariel's shortness are when she [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20190525_032540_980.jpg dinner]] at Eric's castle, when they [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20190525_032329_945.jpg dance]], and when his hypnotism has been worn on on the [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20190525_033132_078.jpg third day]]. The fact that Ariel is wearing heels in all of these pictures ''really'' shows how petite' she is. * BadassInCharge: This guy took down GIANT URSULA for God's sake! And he saved both his kingdom and Triton's from certain destruction! And let's not forget he freed Triton, Ariel and ''hundreds'' of merpeople from eternal damnation! He's also the prince of his kingdom and later became the King in the sequel.
* BadassInDistress: The movie plays loyal to him being saved from drowning by the title mermaid like in the original story. Unlike the novel however, he met the tide with a fight, and also returns the favour to Ariel later.
* BadassNormal: This guy does ''not'' [[{{Determinator}} give up]]. EVER. Sky-high {{Physical God}}dess Sea Witches be damned, you do ''not'' mess with his girl.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Eric is one of the nicest characters in ''The Little Mermaid'' franchise...he also has threatened or outright ''killed'' those who harmed his loved ones.
* BirdsOfAFeather: He wanted to escape his landlocked life to go out to sea. Ariel wanted to escape her underwater life to live above ground.

* CarFu: A ship example. He defeats Ursula by expertly sailing a ship through her trident controlled storm. And uses the pointed end of the broken mast to impale her.

* DemotedToExtra: He has a recurring role in the TV series, is a supporting character in the second film, and makes no appearance in the prequel. Justified for the first and third since [[LoveBeforeFirstSight he has not yet met Ariel until the first film]].

** In the movie, he does meet Ariel after she saved him, but only remembers her voice.
** In the TV series episode "Scuttle", Eric catches a brief glimpse at Ariel, but is convinced by Grimsby that it was just his imagination.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: He helped free a dolphin from a net. Unbeknownst to him, his future wife, Ariel watched him save the dolphin. While she doesn't see his full face, Eric's selfless action was the catalyst that helped Ariel to believe that not all humans are evil. Then, there's his brotherly and close relationship with Max his sheep dog.

* HelloSailor: An accomplished mariner. And not bad looking.

* HumbleHero: He's a prince, but he's quite modest and not at all vain or condescending. When Grim unveiled the large, ostentatious statue of himself as a birthday gift, Eric is noticeably taken aback by its pageantry.

* IWillFindYou: His intention to find Ariel after she was taken by Ursula.
