* AnimalMotifs: If his name wasn't evidence enough, the face of his human form has a few lionlike qualities, thanks to his prominent nose, small eyes, and mane-like hair and beard. The resemblance is reflected to a degree in the boat's figurehead, which also resembles a dragon's head.

* ItsPersonal: Moreso than other Links of the past, this Link's adventure starts when they hit him in the family.

* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Heroic, noble, and kind.

* ClothesMakeTheLegend: In this case, they're just clothes all boys on Outset Island wear when they reach a certain age (presumably the age that the Link from ''Ocarina of Time'' set out on his quest to save Hyrule). So, in this case, the legend defined the clothes (though Link writes his own legend regardless).

** This version of Link takes quite a bit of physical harm, from being blasted out of a cannon against his will, flung face-first into the Tower of the Gods, and effortlessly beaten down by Ganondorf… the latter of which ''twice''.

* BadassNormal: This incarnation of Link is just a kid with a sword and some special equipment he finds lying around, and a whole lot of [[{{Determinator}} determination]]. The King of Red Lions says he has no connection to the Hero of Time whatsoever. This Link wasn't destined for anything, he's just some kid who [[spoiler:repowered the Master Sword, reclaimed the Triforce of Courage, and killed Ganondorf not because of destiny, but to protect his sister and the world. In fact, if the Spirit of the Hero was sent back to the child timeline with the Hero of Time, this Link doesn't even have ''THAT'' going for him]].

* BadassAdorable: To put things into perspective, he's one of the few Links that actually '''[=KILLS=]''' Ganondorf instead of sealing him. His badassery doesn't affect his innocence and cheerful attitude.

* DelinquentHair: Tetra styles her hair into a whirlpool knot.

** It’s unknown exactly what Ganondorf did to the Forsaken Fortress pirates that competed with her group, but Tetra is unsettled by it.
** While she doesn’t want to admit it, she insists on going to find Jabun as soon as possible before Ganondorf can do anything to Outset Island, only relenting when she realizes that Link is already on his way.

Link's first proper encounter with Ganondorf showcases how much of a threat he is by tanking the de-powered Master Sword and effortlessly smacking Link aside and overpowering Tetra as she attempts to fight him. If it weren't for Valoo rescuing them, he would've easily killed them both.

* MotiveDecay: During his speech to Link on his tower that initially he sought to conquer the land of Hyrule to escape from the harsh winds of the Gerudo Desert and it’s implied he wanted to better the lives of his people. However, when he found out about the Triforce, his search eventually corrupted his desire for a better life into a lust for power and conquest of the world.

* EatingOptional: She somehow manages to survive [[spoiler: being indefinitely locked in the basement of Hyrule Castle, with the intent of hiding from Ganondorf there until Link could rejoin her]]. It’s never explained what she was meant to survive off of in the meantime, as there’s plenty of water but no food to eat.

An aged former swordsman who lives on Outset Island. Mentors Link in the ways of swordplay. Shares a split-level home with his brother.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: He and Sturgeon used to get along during their youth as swordsmen, searching for the Knight's Crests to master [[SpinAttack Hurricane Spin technique]]. But as they grew older, Sturgeon decided to spend his days reading while Orca still practices fighting. It caused a rift between the two brothers, with Orca referring his older brother as a "high-strung" recluse who locks himself in his room to study all day. It even extends to their house, as Orca's half is very barebones, has a dirt floor, several weapons and bones on the walls, and is made of shanty metal, whereas Sturgeon's is made of a neat wood, has more traditional house decorations as well as instructional papers on the walls, and a sea-view window.

* HeroWorshipper: The non-comic relief variety. He has deep respect and reverence for the Hero of Time. [[note]]Obviously, as that courageous boy saved his probable ancestor's life from one of Ganondorf's curses.[[/note]]

* IMeantToDoThat: Gonzo is implied to be genuinely worried for Link and to have voiced this concern to Quill in order to convince him to reveal the location of Nayru's pearl to the pirates so they could help the boy, but it is misinterpreted by Mako as a quick-witted emotional facade so that Quill would spill the beans on said valuable pearl. Gonzo quickly boasts that this was his intention all along.

* IMeantToDoThat: Gonzo is implied to be genuinely worried for Link, but it is misinterpreted by Mako as a quick-witted emotional facade to have Quill spill the beans to Nayru's Pearl. Gonzo quickly boasts that this was his intention all along.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his unfriendly behavior, he's shown to be very caring for Tetra and blushes when Mako jokes that they should marry. Later, Aryll claims in one of her letters that underneath all his muscles, Gonzo is just a big softy.

* ShipperOnDeck: He jokingly suggests to Gonzo that if he and Tetra married, their child would be the best pirate of the seas. Gonzo is embarrassed by Mako's words and asks Tetra to ignore it.

* ButtMonkey: He's the lowest-ranked pirate in the crew, and often gets the short end of the stick.

* JerkJock: Geriatric version. Spends all his non-Link-mentoring time honing his physique, repeatedly breaks his brother's possessions by accident during his training and doesn't say sorry, and considers his studious brother a weak embarrassment for giving up the sword.
