* AcquiredSitnationalNarcissism: Anytime he shows something that he's really good at or he's taught something by Bernie, you bet that Jordan would often let it go to his head, as shown in episodes such as "The Main Event" and "J-O-R-D-A-N Spells Funny."

* NeverMyFault: In "Now You Got It", he decides to eat a slice of cake that has been riddled with germs and gets ill from it, blaming the kids for his decision to eat it and getting himself sick.

* Fartillery: On a couple of occasions, Jordan bombed the area with something silent but deadly to disgust everyone within a near radius.

Bernie and Wanda's nephew, the middle child. Jordan is very mischievous and peculiar. He is interested in collecting bugs and conducting odd science experiments. He is liable to getting beat up by his little sister, Bryana; though on very minor occasions, he has been able to scare her in retaliation and make her cry. Early on in the series during the first seasons, Jordan would always cry, occasionally vomit and sometimes urinate on himself. As the series progressed, he gets tougher and more masculine enough, most notable shown in an episode in which he joins a wrestling team. He took an interest in magic and even began trying to date girls. Although he knows that there is nothing wrong with Jordan, Bernie tries to his best to make him more masculine.

* CatchPhrase: He has a number of them. "What's up, you squares?" to groups of people (mind that most characters are shades of gray), as well as the following general shoutings: "Oh LAWD!", "You must be cwazey," "I'm a KILL one of them kids", "toNIGHT", "This is some BULL", and "Nice. ''Real'' noice." Some of these phrases have even rubbed off slightly on Jordan and Vanessa.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: She has her moments - this mostly goes for the middle episodes, for Bryana, who was once more innocent shifted to someone who would outright be jealous, manipulative, with a bad attitude, and quick to speak ill of who or what dissatisfies her.
* BrattyHalfPint: While she is cute, she also can become this quite often with time. "Five Stages of Bryana" is where she was at her worst up until that point and the attitude was definitely not done there.

* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: While Jordan is physically weaker-than-average and generally so effeminate that he loves ribbon dancing, his little sister Bryana who's grown athletic and aggressive to point of being able to attack her brother and win easily.

* SpoiledBrat: On her worst days, especially in the later episodes.

* AnimalLover: A bit zig-zagged. Sometimes, Jordan has attempted to burn ants (though that may have been aggressive fire ants that people often dislike) and once fed a mouse to a snake he took care of just to troll Bryana, who had not bothered him in a while. For the most part, he has been a kinder pet owner, showing encyclopedic knowledge of species.

* WrestlerinAllofUs: In a later episode, Jordan takes up wrestling, and is not as bad-off as one would think against an intimidating, experienced opponent.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite her rude and contemptuous behavior, especially to her uncle, Vanessa does love her siblings and uncle. Not to mention that she does not say mean things too often at all and is not one to stir up conflicts. Be nice to her, and she'll potentially reciprocate.

* TechnoWizard: Vanessa has proven to be a more minor example, editing videos and songs for both spare-time and class projects.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's shown to be athletic as she's a fierce soccer player in "Nut Job" and is able to overpower her older brother. Vanessa does have a clear aggressive side, she can show interest in seemingly more-girly gymnastic activities.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: In "Home Sweet Chicago: part 2," following the funeral of Bernie's uncle, while Bernie takes Wanda, Jordan, and Bryanna to his favorite hangouts as kid, Vanessa goes to her old neighborhood to reconnect with her friends, only for her friends to admit that they don't like her anymore ever because they assumed that she was there to gloat over the fact that she manged to move into a nicer house with a rich relative and escape a life in the ghetto, while her friends still stuck there. This threatens to happen as much with others she knew.

The show's main protagonist who is loosely based upon the late comedian of the same name. Bernie and his wife took in the three kids when their drug-addled mother, his sister Stacy, was no longer able to be a proper parent. Bernie uses tough-love parenting tactics and he can be both strict and comical. He narrates the series, and between scenes he talks to the audience by addressing them as "America." Although he loves all three kids, his favorite is Bryana

* BreakingTheFourthWall: A staple of the series. Bernie spends a most episodes continually speaking to "America" (i.e., the audience) in his study in a big comfy chair. In the pilot, Wanda also talks to the viewers as she leaves for work.
** There are also yellow captions which remark the events that unfold during the episode in the script, treating the viewers as if they are dumb enough not to figure things out.
* BerserkButton: Bernie has many, but his biggest one seems to be when Vanessa is obliviously wasting her potential.

Bryana is known for always attacking and successfully beating up her older brother Jordan.
