* Matricide: Invoked. Ollie murders her own mother under Lilith's influence, resulting in her getting investigated by the NYPD and Luke suspended for supposedly covering for her.

* NiceGuy: He's been nothing but friendly and supportive toward Clary and the others.

* BaldOfAwesome: The man has a very bald head and runs the New York Institute.

* OutnumberedSibling: She grew up with three brothers: Alec, Jace and Max.

* RaisedCatholic: Stated explicitly. Catholicism still strongly influences Raphael's personality and morals. He makes the sign of the cross over [[spoiler:Simon's]] body. Before biting [[spoiler: Isabelle, who is in pain from yin fen withdrawal]], he looks skyward and asks God's forgiveness.

* MultiColoredHair: He has black hair with dark blue streaks.

* AdaptationalSexuality: Raphael is still [[UsefulNotes/{{Asexuality}} asexual]] as in the books, but apparently [[RomanticAsexual not aromantic]] like he is in the books, because he develops feelings for Isabelle when they both get addicted to him feeding on her. And he says he hasn't felt that way for anyone in a long time, rather than never.

* BigBrotherInstinct: He still goes to see his younger sister, who's now in her 70s, to make sure she's alright. [[spoiler: When Simon implicitly threatens her, Raphael wastes no time trying to kill him, only stopping after learning that Simon is a daylighter]].
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler: In 3x17, he's exposed to "Heavenly Fire" which turns him human. At first, he's overjoyed until he realizes how it's affecting other Downworlders.]]

* FantasticRacism: Tends to make rude remarks against anyone who isn't a vampire. Subverted a bit since he's close friends with [[ParentalSubstitute Magnus Bane]] and shows genuine concern about how breaking the Accords will effect other Downworlders.

* IJustWantToBeNormal: [[spoiler:His motivation for experimenting on Heidi. He wants to be a daylighter to get a small part of his old life back, and to watch a sunrise with his sister.]]

* DrugsAreBad: When he first turned, he quickly got addicted to blood and became out of control. Magnus helped him get himself back together.

* IJustWantToBeNormal: [[spoiler: His motivation for experimenting on Heidi. He wants to be a daylighter to get a small part of his old life back, and to watch a sunrise with his sister.]]

* LadyOfWar: Isabelle is the daughter of an old, prestigious, Shadowhunter family. She herself is very talented at DemonSlaying and manages to fight quite effectively even while wearing dresses and high heels. Her preferred tactic is to WhipItGood using her weapon of choice, an enchanted whip made of electrum (an alloy of gold and silver).

* OutnumberedSibling: She grew up with three brothers: Alec, Jace, and Max.

* SiblingYinYang: With Alec. Isabelle is not averse to showing off her beauty, is generally nicer, and like Jace, always rushing headfirst into demon-slaying. It's implied that Isabelle is the way she is in part because she wanted to draw attention from her brother's homosexuality, as she didn't want her parents to find out before Alec was ready.

* IncompatibleOrientation: To an extent, with [[spoiler:Raphael]]. While he's not aromantic, he is asexual, and so when she tries to kiss him he lets her know that he isn't into physical intimacy other than [[spoiler:biting]].

* InterspeciesRomance: In Season 1, she had a long-standing and non-exclusive relationship with a Seelie named Meliorn. They often met up in his dwelling and sometimes used the opportunity to get information out of each other. In Season 2 she begins dating [[spoiler: Raphael]].

* BloodOath: Iris makes Clary sign one saying she'll perform a favor for Iris if Iris [[spoiler: brings her mother back to life. Clary changes her mind when she realizes that she doesn't want to risk her mother's soul, but Iris is adamant about Clary fulfilling her end of the bargain -- giving birth to a warlock child. She ends up using the oath to make Clary find her adopted daughter]].

* EvilGenius: Not only is she a doctor, she found a way to [[spoiler: breed Shadowhunters with demons and plans to test this out on Clary]].

* TheNoseKnows: In season 2 Meliorn quickly deduces that [[spoiler: Raphael]] is now dating Isabelle because the scent of her perfume is on him.

* WrongfullyAccused: [[spoiler: He's wrongfully arrested and sentenced to execution by the Clave, but the main characters (sans Alec, who's following the Clave's orders) manage to free him. Izzy is caught and placed on trial for treason]].

In this instance, he helps track down the seelie really responsible for the killings though and Izzy is willing to believe him much quicker than anyone else falsely accused on the show since he definitively says that he hasn't been murdering anyone and seelies really can't lie.]]

* HappilyAdopted: All she wants is to get back to her adopted mother. Valentine manipulates her by promising to get her back to her mother.

* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: The reason she is so unstable and cruel is due to [[spoiler:Raphael keeping her prisonner and painfully experimenting on her in an attempt to figure out how to become a DaywalkingVampire.]]
