* JerkassHasAPoint: Even he takes the location of the "secret spot" seriously, and refuses to tell anyone so he doesn't betray his father's trust. Even when threatened by Twister to tell him, he later explains to the others how he was smart enough to leave out an important detail about where it really is in case something goes wrong.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Sure Otto is a complete jerk, even to his friends, but he does learn from his past mistakes once in a while and is willing to do the right thing. [[BigBrotherInstinct And heaven help you if you mess with his friends.]]
* KarmaHoudini: Zig-Zagged. He didn't always get in trouble for breaking the rules; but when he did, he paid heavily.

* LaserGuidedKarma: Make no mistake! For every sordid act Otto often pulls, he will indeed suffer the impending consequences. How often he's struck with this depends on how far his arrogance and rebellion goes.

* TheEngineer: Enjoys building models and tinkering with electronic devices. He shares this interest with Sam and subsequently gets along better with him than Otto, Reggie or Twister.

Otto and Reggie's single father, Ray is a widower and a surfer of some renown. He owns a restaurant named The Shore Shack, where he works alongside his friend Tito.

* IceCreamKoan: Averted for the most part; his "Ancient Hawaiian" sayings typically offer useful advice, and aren't so abstract that Ray and the kids can't understand them. He's not ''completely'' immune to it, though.

* LonersAreFreaks: Subverted; he himself while a little strange is a genuinely nice person, though everyone else including the gang finds him creepy, which is why they were initially reluctant to go to his house in "Netherworld Night".

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Ordinarily whenever accidents happen, he's ''very'' much of the kind of person to get angry and act like it was done on purpose. However, when the kids mistakenly destroy Violet's flowers, he doesn't hold it against the children at all. He recognises it was an ''accident'' and that they feel genuinely bad for what happened, and he's more than willing to work with the children to try and make it up to Violet.

* WomenAreWiser: In spite of her NotSoAboveItAll moments, she's still much more level-headed and morally grounded than her brother and friends.

* AdultsAreUseless: Averted. Ray actually proves to be very helpful for the kids.

* {{Goth}}: Even when not using his Prince of the Netherworld persona, he has a fascination with horror movies and the underworld. He's the [[PerkyGoth Perky]] variety, as he's pretty cheery and upbeat most of the time.

* TheAce: He's pretty much a master of all extreme sports. In "Race Across New Zealand", he won or would have won all the trials if another contestant hadn't cheated. Except the last one, in which he gave up the win for his bestfriend.
