* {{Expy}}: His defensive, turret-building role is an easy match for the Engineer from ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'', right down to [[PercussiveMaintenance whacking his equipment]] to make it operate faster. He can also collect a supply of scrap metal, though unlike the Engineer, he does not use it to build and upgrade his turret but to make armor packs — which, amusingly enough, was a ''VideoGame/TeamFortressClassic'' Engineer skill. Torbjörn also doesn't have any equivalent to Dispensers (due to the abundance of healing sources and the fact all heroes carry infinite clips) or Teleporters (which is Symmetra's ability). After the September 2018, the resemblance is much smaller, making Torbjörn much more of a direct combatant.

* BadassGrandpa: He was one of the original members of Overwatch before it grew from an ordinary strike team into an international superhero organization. Per WordOfGod, [[https://twitter.com/westofhouse/status/928400807124279296 he's also a literal grandfather]].

* UglyGuyHotWife: Who'd have thought that Torb would have such an absurdly gorgeous wife? Her name's Ingrid, by the way.
* TheUglyGuysHotDaughter: Most of his children are girls and, so far, seem to take more after their mother. [[WrenchWench Especially Brigitte.]]

* CoolShades: Her Origins skin reveals that back when she was a former test pilot, she wore a pair of aviator glasses. Nowadays, she wears her iconic orange goggles.

* GogglesDoNothing: In her backstory, Tracer wore the goggles as a pilot presumably to protect her eyes. The goggles themselves don't really have much of a purpose in the actual game. Since she's an avid runner and most of her combat philosophy revolves around staying mobile at high speeds, they may just serve to keep the wind out of her eyes so she can focus.

* MyGreatestFailure: While heavily hinted at before, the "Binary" comic confirms that he was the creator of many omnic units that would eventually attack and kill people in the Omnic Crisis, including the Bastion Unit. Something that filled him with shame and grief.

** Prior to his October 2018 rework, ''Overload'''s predecessor was his original ''Molten Core'' ultimate, which greatly increased his armor, his build, repair, and fire rates, and temporarily transformed his Level 2 turret into a much more durable [[HavingABlast and aggressive]] Level 3 turret.

* VitriolicBestBuds: With Reinhardt; several of their pre-game interactions have them ribbing each other and competing over elimination count. According to a letter to his wife Ingrid, for saving Torbjörn's life Reinhardt was repaid by being allowed to name Torbjörn's daughter and was also considered being made her godfather.

* FingerGun: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Her "Finger Guns" emote]].

* DeathSeeker: Implied. If resurrected by Mercy, she can lament how she's still alive. It's a pretty clear hint that Amélie is still somewhere in there and probably wants to die.

* DifficultButAwesome: FPS snipers are already typically some of the most mechanically demanding characters to play, and Widowmaker is no exception. What makes her stand out from other "snipers" such as Hanzo and Ana is that ''all'' of her team-wide value comes from sniping and one-shotting enemies, meaning all of her abilities serve as utility to complement the player's ability to land constant critical hits, including her ultimate, which won't help decide games in the same way other ultimates in the game will. This means if you don't have good aim or produce as much damage to consistently pick off squishy targets, you aren't taking advantage of her potential, ergo possibly wasting a good hero pick. That said, those who can master her are complete nightmares to face against, and she can shut down entire teams unharmed from a distance.

* EmotionlessGirl: [[ZigzaggingTrope It varies.]] Supposedly, her conditioning relieved her of all emotions and made her an unfeeling tool of destruction, and she does tend to carry out her objectives with [[TheStoic calm, stoic precision.]] Yet she's also been shown to [[{{Sadist}} actively take pleasure in her actions]], [[KickTheDog gloat about them to her enemies]], and [[NotSoStoic react with shock, confusion and frustration]] when a plan goes off the rails. She also behaves more solemnly when [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes her husband]] is involved and sometimes openly grieves for him. It's possible she's only devoid of emotions that would hinder her performance as an assassin -- such as pity, empathy or remorse -- and is otherwise capable of feeling in ways that either [[AxCrazy motivate]] her or involve a [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone personal trigger.]]

* EvilCounterpart: To Ana. Widowmaker is a sniper whose attack set focuses entirely on killing and gets off from the people she kills, but her scantily-clad appearance would be impractical in real-life combat. Ana is a Support sniper who heals allies with each shot, dresses up primarily for stealth, and is a weary ShellShockedVeteran whose victims weigh heavily on her conscience.

** Her unique laugh emote also haves her give a rather condescending chuckle.
* EvilMakeover: Went through one after her forced defection to Talon. She used to look like an unassuming brunette with brown eyes that displayed happiness as opposed to malice, had a genuine smile and smooth white skin devoid of [[TattooedCrook spider tattoos]]. Now she has blue-purple skin, blue hair, [[YellowEyesOfSneakiness yellow eyes]], a PsychoticSmirk, and very sinister tattoos on her forearm and back. Compare what Amélie [[http://imgur.com/mVF7hUa used to look like]] to what she looks like now, and she basically looks like a completely different person.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Her voice is more sensual, colder, and deeper than the other female characters. Which is a sign that she's one of the bad guys.

She was then captured, conditioned, and brainwashed by that organization into becoming one of the deadliest assassins in the world and oppose that hero ([[SlainInTheirSleep Only the opposing part never happened for Widowmaker]]). Now if she could break free of the brainwashing like Bucky....
%%** She's also almost a direct rip on Natasha Romanoff, AKA ComicBook/BlackWidow. If the names and heavy association with the same type of spider didn't make it clear enough, both of them are ruthless [[DarkActionGirl female assassins]] from a European country who run around in [[SpyCatsuit tight catsuits]] and are incredibly acrobatic. Additionally, both of them are former ballerinas, differing only in that Black Widow's ballet experience was a part of her [[TrainingFromHell life in the Red Room]], while Widowmaker was an actual professional ballerina before her conversion by Talon. The biggest difference between them is their current role in the story: Black Widow spent most of her life as an assassin for the bad guys, before switching to the side of good - [[AntiHero mostly]] - while Widowmaker was a civilian who followed [[FaceMonsterTurn the opposite moralpath.]]

* FrenchJerk: Though formerly she was a normal, sweet woman, after Talon had their hands on her, she's pretty much this trope.

* GameplayAndStorySegregation: In ''Alive'', she's shown to be able to dangle upside-down from her grappling hook to take a shot, and is called a sniper that strikes like lightning by Ana in "Legacy", capable of deploying her grappling hook quickly. For balance reasons, Widowmaker's grappling hook has an eight-second cooldown. Also, due to the fact that attempting to aim at enemies upside-down would likely be incredibly disorienting, the grappling hook doesn't allow her to hang from any ledge.

* TheHeavy: Widowmaker is the villain most directly involved with every problem happening in the world of Overwatch. Her assassination of Gerard, her own husband, allowed Talon to rise unopposed. Her confrontation with Ana Amari contributed to the downfall of the Overwatch organization. Her assassination of Mondatta in King's Row has only worsened human-omnic relations and fanned the flames of a second Omnic Crisis. And she and Reaper are involved with trying to recover the legendary Doomfist, something that has Overwatch and many other nations concerned now that the Doomfist is in the hands of its namesake once again.
* HeroKiller: Her kidnapping and transformation into Widowmaker was the beginning of the end for Overwatch. First, she killed her husband Gerard, who was Talon biggest obstacle, then she "killed" Ana (along with an entire Overwatch squad) and forced her into hiding, and later, she killed Mondatta and ruined any chance for Omnic peace.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Does this twice to Tracer during ''Alive''. First, she shoots her Pulse Bomb while it's in mid-flight, knocking her off of the roof they were fighting. She then tricks her enemy into teleporting out of her line of fire, leaving her actual assassination target wide open.

** During the ''Alive'' cinematic, she fires a shot at Tracer -- who blinks away to avoid being hit in the heart -- and that same shot hits her target, Mondatta, right in the head. And she pulls this shot while falling.

* InnocentBystander: In her past life, Amélie was just a harmless civilian who never took part in combat, only married to Overwatch agent Gérard. Talon took advantage of this, seeing an opportunity to strike their enemy where they least expect, and everything went downhill from there.
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: Downplayed, her true love will always be Gerard. Widowmaker wears skintight clothing, speaks in a seductive tone and mockingly says "Adieu cherie" to Tracer in ''Alive''. In the game proper, she often uses faux-romantic lines like "I think we should see other people" or "It's not you, it's me" when she eliminates a target. Her "Under the Mistletoe" Highlight Intro has her fake a kiss toward the camera before striking them to the ground and stepping on them.

* JustAKid: She dismisses D.Va as just a kid that doesn't belong in the battlefield. Not that she has reservations about hurting a kid, [[WouldHurtAChild if they get in the way of her mission, she'll hurt them all right;]] she just doesn't like getting partnered with one.

* LongRangeFighter: Widowmaker does huge damage while her rifle is scoped, but is average in every other regard. Her most effective counters are flankers with high damage or health, like Genji, Reaper, Winston, or D.Va.

* MindRape: She was an accomplished ballet dancer until Talon kidnapped her and mentally tortured her into becoming a skilled, ruthless and cruel assassin.

* NiceGirl: What she ''was'' prior to being turned into Widowmaker. As Amélie, she was a sweet innocent woman who was HappilyMarried to Gerard Lacroix. Once Talon abducted her however, [[BrainwashedAndCrazy everything changed for the worse]].

** Talon deliberately brainwashed Widowmaker to be a cold emotionless killing machine for them and for the most part, she is. However right before, and after, she kills someone she shows a much wider array of emotions, such as smirking and, when Tracer asks why she [[GoodCanNotComprehendEvil would murder Mondatta]] she [[EvilLaugh laughs in her face]]. As Widowmaker notes in her monologue, the act of killing is what makes her feel alive.

** Widowmaker also notably loses her cool and becomes outright irritated during the ''Infiltration'' short when the [[spoiler: alarms at Volskaya Industries go off and she misses her shot on Katya Volskaya as a result.]]

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Whenever her arrogant and sadistic qualities subside, some of her humanity is often allowed to emerge, usually to grieve for her husband Gérard. She snaps at Ana when the latter calls him a fool for marrying her (bear in mind that Ana isn't privy to the whole story), mournfully calls out to him if she's revived from the brink of death and, most notably, solemnly visits his grave in ''Reflections''. These moments illustrate that she's managed to retain some measure of her identity in spite of her conditioning.

* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: When Gerard was murdered by Talon, it was assumed she was killed as well. Naturally it came as a surprise to learn that not only was she alive, but was the one responsible for his death and is now a Talon operative.

* ScopeSnipe: Defeats Ana Amari by landing a shot through the Ana's rifle scope right in her eye.

* SmugSnake: Arrogant, condescending and carries herself like she thinks she’s better than everyone else in the room. Her behavior at the end of the ''Alive'' short ''breathes'' this trope.

* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her default combat outfit is a skin tight bodysuit that shows off most of her front and back.

* SympatheticMurderer: She may be a cruel, cold-hearted assassin who takes in pleasure in the act of killing, but her backstory offers her a degree of sympathy for her current situation.

* TattooedCrook: Is a cold-blooded assassin with a giant spider tattoo on her back, two French spider-themed tattoos on her forearm and (as her Cote D'azur skin shows) a Talon tattoo on her left thigh. Confirmed in a spray that she ''didn't'' have those tattoos back when she was the completely innocent Amélie.

* WeakButSkilled: In comparison to the rest of the cast. The bulk of her damage and overall usefulness to the team is dependent on her sniper rifle and how good of a shot the player is. Her ''Venom Mine'' is the only offensive ability in her move set, which for all intents is a trap that deals little damage and is best used for alerting her to an enemy approaching. Her ''Grappling Hook'' can get her to places other heroes can't reach, but it has a ''very'' long cool down and she herself doesn't have the inherent/ as frequent mobility of heroes like [[TimeMaster Tracer]] or [[DoubleJump Genji]]. Her ''Infra-Sight'' is devastating when used at its full potential through coordinating with her team, but has no killing power whatsoever by itself.

* XanatosGambit: Manages to execute such a sniper shot in the animated short ''Alive''. During an intense battle she lines up a firing solution at Tracer with the target for assassination behind her. If Tracer didn't teleport dodge in time, Widowmaker would kill the heroine and be rid of a potent enemy. If Tracer did teleport dodge, Widowmaker would kill the target and succeed in her mission. Tracer dodged. Widowmaker won.
* YellowEyesOfSneakiness: Has yellow eyes which is fitting considering she's largely about stealth kills. Symbolically, they appear to represent her being under effects of Talon's brainwashing, as she originally had brown eyes before her transformation. Furthering this, her "Talon" skin, which is set after Talon converted her but before she was turned blue, also has her with yellow eyes.

* AcePilot: According to her backstory, she was inducted into Overwatch for her stellar flying skills, and she only joined the combat unit later. It's given a slight nod in game, as loitoring near the front of Orca dropships seen in Control Maps indicates Tracer still owns and flies them.

** Due to being a FragileSpeedster, any way to immobilize Tracer for a moment will make her an easy kill.

* {{Adorkable}}: She goes about the business of saving the world with all of the enthusiasm of an excitable puppy. In ''Uprising'', she shows up to the strike team's embarkation in full uniform and beaming like a high schooler looking to make a good impression on her first day. As they depart, she can be seen smiling from ear to ear as she sits among her teammates. And then there's her ''Serious Business’’ highlight intro, in which she tries to strike a serious, heroic pose… and has [[{{Corpsing}} some trouble]] pulling it off.

* ArchEnemy: Widowmaker. They are [[{{Foil}} polar opposites]] in personality, morals and abilities, and both delight in causing pain or even simply minor annoyance to the other.

* BadassBiker: She's skilled enough at riding a motorcycle to go after Maximillien and his bodyguards in a car chase in ''Storm Rising'''s opening cutscene.
* BadassBystander: Judging by the comments Mondatta’s bodyguards make when she tries to contact them, Tracer was just attending the speech and not officially on assignment. She still doesn’t hesitate for a moment to jump in and help once she notices that something’s wrong and realizes the monk’s life is at risk. [[ShaggyDogStory Tragically, the only difference her involvement made was getting herself hurt]].

* BareYourMidriff: Her two Summer Games skins, "Sprinter" and "Track and Field" do this. Additionally, "Reflections" shows that underneath the jacket of her default skin she wears a T-shirt that does this. Also wears a midriff-bearing swimsuit in her ''VideoGame/HeroesOfTheStorm'' "Slip'N Stream" skin.

* BeingGoodSucks: She's one of the kindest, most helpful and unambiguously good characters on the roster, which has an unfortunate tendency to work against her benefit. Her decision to join Overwatch and help the world was short-lived due to its collapse and left her stuck with a debilitating condition that she'll likely carry for the rest of her life, and all her intervention with the Mondatta assassination got her was pain and misery. All in all, the only tangible net gain she has to show for her years of work and sacrifice is a girlfriend and a place to stay[[note]]And we don't know how long they've been together, so maybe not even that[[/note]]. Not bad, but hardly an equivalent exchange. She's held onto [[ThePollyanna her smile]], but maintaining it must take a lot of work.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While Tracer is a [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]] through and through, she's capable of being very cold, especially if the person is a straight up CardCarryingVillain. This pre-game interaction with Sombra pretty much says it all:

** One of her interactions with Junkrat has him saying "Cheers, mate! Cavalry's here" to which Tracer answer is HeyThatsMyLine

** At the end of the ''Alive'' short, Widowmaker exits with "Adieu Cherie", which translates to "Goodbye Love", borrowing Tracer's catchphrase while mocking her failure.

* BreakTheCutie: Her plucky demeanor belies an adulthood that has been characterized by hardship. ''Alive'' sees her deteriorate to her most emotionally distressed point seen thus far after failing to prevent something that carried dire consequences for her home. Fortunately, being called back into service by Winston seems to have helped her bounce back by the time of the cinematic trailer, but, offscreen, she's also had to deal with being nearly wiped from existence following the accident with the Slipstream, witnessed the initial collapse of Overwatch, an organization she clearly loved and admired, and seen much of the good she's fought to bring into world undone by forces beyond her control. For all her cheerful behavior, she's been through a lot, and unfortunately, her defining ability to stay positive would be pointless if she never had reason to use it.
* ButchLesbian: [[DownplayedTrope Heavily downplayed]], as [[GenkiGirl she]] doesn't have the personality normally associated with this trope, and her tomboyish qualities seem designed to be appealing; she still hews closer to this than the more overtly feminine LipstickLesbian, and her more casual fashion sense fits neatly into the "Soft Butch" aesthetic popular with many lesbians. Her "Punk", "Ultraviolet" and ''especially'' "Lightning" skins, however, play this to the hilt.

* CherryTapping: Getting a "Stuck" kill with her ''Pulse Bomb'' counts as this, as does a measly 5 points of damage when planted onto an enemy. Otherwise, scoring a lucky snipe finisher with her pistols would do as well.

* CloseRangeCombatant: Her ''Pulse Pistols'' do rather low damage in long range combat due to falloff. At ''close range'', however, she can melt down heroes with average health in moments and her ''Blink'' definitely helps in dodging point blank shots. And because of the short range at which she tosses her ''Pulse Bomb'', she would need to be close.

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: "Moron" is being a bit harsh (she is a trained pilot, after all), but she is undeniably ''goofy''. However, she's also a fast, agile and highly skilled acrobatic fighter with time manipulation abilities who was one of Overwatch's most effective agents before its collapse.
* CurbStompBattle: One of the perks of being the poster girl of the franchise is that you get to make a lot of appearances. Unfortunately, in [[CrapsaccharineWorld this world]], that goes hand-in-hand with exposing yourself to more opportunities to be trampled[[note]]And probably because [[WatsonianVersusDoylist the writers know you can afford it more]][[/note]].
** Ultimately, she's on the losing end of one in ''Alive''. Despite a fair showing, at the end of the night Widowmaker stays in control of their fight, pulls off the assassination without a hitch, and walks away without a scratch while Tracer ends the night injured and incapacitated as her home descends into chaos. To be fair, that last detail only happened because Widowmaker got the drop on her while she was under a lot of stress; up until that point, she had done a decent job of holding her own. Still, not what you'd call a stellar first solo outing.
** And another one in Doomfist's origin trailer. Her bullets can't even get through his barrier and after a moment of observing her blinking about, Doomfist ''grabs her mid-blink'' by the back of her chronal accelerator and rips it off, causing her disability to rapidly overtake her. She only has time for two uncontrolled blinks as she desperately reaches out to Winston for help before she fades from the flow of time again. At least this time she was otherwise able to avoid being physically injured.

* CuteButCacophonic: She's a kind, chipper and very lovable person. But in the midst of a fight, she's also a giggling hellion whose fighting style revolves around causing as much grief and harassment as possible ([[GlassCannon practical]] or [[TheGadfly otherwise]]) for the enemy.
* CuteGhostGirl: Her ''Will-O-Wisp'' skin from the 2019 Halloween Terror event turns her into this. She might be a spirit trapped between worlds (as per [[TheNarrator Reinhardt's]] story) but she's still as much of a BadassAdorable as ever.

* DeathOfAThousandCuts: A single shot from one of her pistols will barely make a scratch. Thing is, they can fire off about forty shots in a second[[note]]In fact, the rate of fire is so intense that firing off just a single shot is actually pretty hard and requires you to be very gentle with the controls[[/note]], and her reload is just as fast, which means all that scratching adds up ''really'' quickly.
* {{Determinator}}: The theatrical "We Are Overwatch" teaser takes a selection of heroes and pairs each of them with an appropriate virtue ("honor" for [[KnightInShiningArmor Reinhardt]], "compassion" for [[TheMedic Mercy]], et cetera). Tracer gets paired with "determination”, and for good reason. You can't keep the girl down. Her attitude and ideals have proven remarkably resilient in spite of everything life has thrown at her, from nearly being erased from time to witnessing the initial collapse of Overwatch to the entire incident in London. She always manages to recover and come back for more, with her dedication to doing the right thing holding as strong as ever. Once she's cleared for active duty after recovering from the Slipstream accident in ''Uprising'', Commander Morrison tells her point blank that he would expect most people in her situation to have given up. Lena's having none of that.

* DudeWheresMyRespect: She helped to save King's Row on her very first mission, is recognized across the planet as a former Overwatch agent and regularly goes out of her way to inconvenience or even endanger herself if it means she can help someone else. And yet some shopkeeper still looks her right in the face through a closed door as he hangs up a big "closed" sign in ''Reflections''. He may not have recognized her, but, really, how many [[AnimeHair spiky-haired]], [[GogglesDoNothing goggle-wearing]] [[LeParkour acrobatic runners]] in [[PrimaryColorChampion bright yellow pants with glowing blue devices on their chests]] could there possibly be in one neighborhood?

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: How does she make her entrance into the franchise? By blinking in out of nowhere right next to an unaware Widowmaker and making her presence known by whispering "Psst! What ya lookin’ at?" to her as she’s staring through her scope. ''Then'' they start fighting, with Widowmaker firing off round after round as Tracer leaps, flips and blinks out of the way, all while giggling like she’s having the time of her life. Fewer than ten seconds, and it's still a perfect demonstration of just [[GenkiGirl who]] [[TheGadfly she]] [[BadassAdorable is]]. Less bombastically, her interactions with the two boys establish her [[NiceGuy compassionate side]] and willingness to [[ChronicHeroSyndrome care for the innocent]].

* {{Fanservice}}: Not as blatantly as the likes of Widowmaker, Symmetra or Witch Mercy, but she has a very athletic figure complimented by some form-hugging leggings, and no opportunity is wasted to draw attention to her long and expertly modeled legs and bum. Her legendary Summer Games skins give us a very nice view of her midriff, and a lot of her body language seems to have been inspired by World War II pinup posters. Less suggestively, her kindhearted personality coupled with her friendly, pretty face are also seen as very appealing by those who have a preference for wholesomeness.

* FreakLabAccident: The teleportation device in the experimental jet she was testing malfunctioned, dislocating her from time and forcing Winston to build the chronal accelerator to stabilize her with the side effect of giving Tracer her abilities.

* TheGadfly: Of a more cheerful sort; she is very prone to screwing around with her opponents and being an annoyance just because she can (and it keeps them distracted to boot). Her gameplay style also encourages this since she can't take a lot of hits but can zip around ridiculously fast and has weapons and abilities that can make her a right pain in the ass for the enemy team to deal with, as well as opening them up for more powerful Heroes to deal with more effectively than she can.

* HandicappedBadass: Tracer was never "cured" of her temporal displacement, and the condition itself is so bizarre and unique that she likely never will be. Instead, she has to rely on a form of treatment provided by her accelerator, which stabilizes her in time, and she risks severe danger to herself if it is ever compromised or she leaves its range of effect. The parallels to a disability are not hard to draw, but she was still able to become one of Overwatch's most effective and recognized agents by working around her limitations and making use of the [[CursedWithAwesome abilities her condition granted her]], and as long as she keeps her accelerator secure she can be an absolute nightmare to deal with.

* TheHeart: Tracer is known in and out of story for her kind, likable demeanor and unshakable dedication to the common good, and she seems to have a talent for bringing these same qualities out in those around her. The cynical older brother from the cinematic trailer is visibly more hopeful after their encounter, and a brief conversation with her is all it takes for Commander Morrison to reaffirm himself and authorize a mission when the London Uprising leaves him struggling with protocol. He, Mercy and [[BigBrotherInstinct especially]] Winston have all been shown to be very protective of her[[note]]In fact, ''Uprising'' heavily implies that Morrison himself has taken a personal interest in her career and that he privately instructed Mercy to keep an eye on her; in the event proper, she's also the only member of the strike team he specifically goes out of his way to encourage to stay safe[[/note]], and any time she's hurt or abused is ''always'' PlayedForDrama.

* HiddenBuxom: Between her jacket and chronal accelerator her chest is pretty covered, not to mention her pose on the hero gallery has her thrusting her waist out a bit, but Tracer is actually fairly busty if you look. Most notable in her origin video.
* HiddenDepths: She has a tendency, especially in-game, to come across like a giggling, showboating goofball, such that it's easy to forget sometimes that she's an accomplished pilot who was initially brought onto Overwatch for her flying skills. The comics show her behavior outside of a fight is noticeably more mature and thoughtful: ''Reflections'' reveals that she's capable of maintaining a healthy, adult relationship with her girlfriend, and her little speech in ''Uprising'' demonstrates that her ideals aren't just an idealist's fantasies, but a deeply held personal commitment that she takes very seriously. Her citations of Mei and the Shambali order as personal inspirations in some of the pre-fight conversations also suggest she places substantial value on the issues of peace, spirituality, social equity and the environment, showing that her worldview is more informed than what [[GenkiGirl her]] [[JumpedAtTheCall mannerisms]] would indicate, and her concept of heroism is more complex and nuanced than just grabbing a gun and fighting the bad guys.

* HopeBringer: Under favorable conditions, she has the effect of brightening up the place wherever she goes. Her words to Commander Morrison in ''Uprising'' about her commitment to helping those in need are enough to snap him out of his dilemma and convince him to authorize a mission to intervene in the London crisis despite how it would conflict with protocol. Years later, her participation in foiling Talon's museum heist leaves two young boys -- one of whom is established to already be pretty jaded -- visibly awestruck. The in-story news article that covers the event even makes note of the hopeful looks on their faces and muses that maybe this unexpected display of heroism means [[AWorldHalfFull the world has a chance of improving after all]].

* IncomingHam: More through action than dialogue. Her first ''ten seconds'' of screen time involve her giggling and weaving through gunfire before backflipping about twenty feet into the air, pulling out a pair of pistols and leaping right into the fray. Her first line might as well have been "Cheers, love! The ham's here!"
* {{Irony}}: Sweet, compassionate and likely forward-thinking Tracer hails from King's Row, a racially tense and oppressive district of London which by all appearances is a dingy, dirty, polluted urban mess scrawled with hateful, intolerant graffiti. No wonder she thinks the world needs more heroes.

* KidAppealCharacter: Her kind, cheerful demeanor and friendly interactions with children seem to indicate that she is intended to appeal to younger fans, and her compassionate nature, diverse skillset and capacity to never give up or lose hope in spite of adversity mark her as one of the game's more obvious role models. Of course, she also has plenty of adult fans, and even the developers are on record for taking a shine to her. Ironically, her use of some pretty harsh [[SeparatedByACommonLanguage British English]] [[PrecisionFStrike phrases]] and her utterance of a "Dammit" in ''Reflections'' technically make her, by default, one of the game's more foul-mouthed characters.
* LargeHam: Why wade into a fight when you can ''backflip into the air and come down guns blazing?'' Lena is an exuberant girl, and everything about her identity and mannerisms radiates with charisma, energy and enthusiasm. She comes across like the kind of person who has so much passion inside her that she can't help but spread it around.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Of the positive variety in ''Reflections''. After spending the evening dashing about London looking for a gift for her girlfriend and coming away at every turn empty-handed due to constantly getting [[ChronicHeroSyndrome distracted]], [[spoiler:a family she had helped earlier tracks her down and lets her have one of their gifts as thanks, which just so happens to contain a scarf just like the one she had let a stranger have earlier.]]
* LeParkour: [[CutscenePowerToTheMax Not that it translates much into gameplay]], but she has a tendency in the story materials to make use of the battlefield's terrain and elevation to pull of some impressive leaps and vaults to either reach the fight more quickly, get herself to a better position, run circles around the opposition or [[MundaneMadeAwesome do her Christmas shopping]], and a fair amount of the official artwork depicts her enthusiastically in mid-leap. In the French version of the game, it's even made its way into her name (see MeaningfulName below).

* LikeBrotherAndSister: Following the accident with the ''Slipstream'', Winston saved her life by developing her accelerator when no one else could figure out how to help her. They've been close ever since and share one of the strongest bonds of any two playable characters, including the ones who are literal family. In the photo of the ceremony celebrating Winston becoming a full agent, she can be seen jumping with joy right by his side, and seeing her fade out of time after her accelerator is destroyed by Doomfist is enough to [[BigBrotherInstinct activate Winston's berserker state.]] Considering we've otherwise only seen him do that when Reaper stepped on his glasses, which [[TragicKeepsake belonged to his father figure]], this would indicate he also thinks of her like family.

** The French Translation of her name (Traceur) is also what you would call a practitioner of LeParkour.

* MesACrowd: In a meta way. While any team can have multiples of each character, if two Tracers are on the same team (which will only happen in "No Limits" or "Mystery Heroes" mode), they will [[DevelopersForesight actually acknowledge each other]] during the pre-fight banter period, attributing each others’ presence to [[TimeCrash the irregularities of her personal timeline]]. [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight She takes seeing an exact copy of herself in stride rather well,]] [[SeenItAll but then again, her best friend is an intelligent, cybernetic ape from the moon]].

* NiceGirl: [[TheGadfly Gadfly tendencies aside]], Tracer is an optimistic, friendly, kind-hearted woman. Still, [[BewareTheNiceOnes best not to get on her bad side]]. It's on its best display in ''Reflections'', in which she repeatedly makes her own night harder to make those of strangers' easier, with no expectation of a reward.

* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: If she had never taken the initiative to enlist into Overwatch to help make a difference, she never would have endured the accident that would leave her afflicted with her condition. And in ''Alive'' she's willing to risk her own well-being to save someone else, and not only does she succumb to the former, she doesn't even succeed in the latter. Had she just minded her own business and not gotten involved, the outcome would have been the same, and she would have spared herself from getting hurt. [[BeingGoodSucks But that wouldn't have been the right thing to do]], [[ChronicHeroSyndrome so she didn't]].
* OddFriendship: With Winston. She's a hyper-active, time-manipulating agent from England whereas he's a reserved, hyper-intelligent gorilla from the moon. They have quite possibly the closest friendship out of all the playable Heroes in the game.

* OlderThanTheyLook: Yes, that sweet, bright-eyed and baby-faced young lady in the picture above is twenty-six years old, [[FlipFlopOfGod though it's ambiguous as to whether or not her chronal displacement has something to do with it.]]

* PaintedOnPants: The most flattering aspect of her otherwise wholesome design. Tracer's bright yellow leggings cling to every contour of her lower body, presumably to help [[CombatParkour reduce drag and keep her aerodynamic]], but also [[{{Fanservice}} to give the audience a nice look at the results of what is likely a strenuous cardio regimen.]]

** Mei outright gushes about Tracer inspires her. In turn, Tracer calls Mei the real hero.
** Pharah calls her lucky for having been in Overwatch, while Lena insures Pharah that she may still get that chance in the future.
** Orisa questions her whether its right or wrong to operate outside the law. Tracer admits it's a difficult question for her, then follows with the belief that she should be doing what she believes is right.

* PluckyGirl: It's hard to get much pluckier than "will happily cartwheel through live gunfire while laughing." The girl loves her job.

* PrecisionFStrike: In her "Punk" and "Ultraviolet" skins Tracer becomes slightly more foul mouthed, calling her enemies "tossers" and "wankers" when she eliminates them; both common (and rather spicy) insults in British slang. Surprising, hearing that from whom is probably the most kid-friendly character in Overwatch.

* RealityIsUnrealistic: When she was first introduced, many fans, especially British fans, thought Tracer was voiced by an American doing an exaggerated Cockney accent. They later learned, to their surprise, that she was voiced by British actress Creator/CaraTheobold [[UsefulNotes/BritishAccents (although Theobold is from Wakefield in Yorkshire, so she's still putting on an accent).]]

** ''Alive'' is ultimately this from her perspective. She's spent years fighting to safeguard her home, even helping to bring operations back to the UK to resolve a crisis and save Mondatta from a hostage situation as detailed in ''Uprising.'' In one night, that's all rendered pointless, and her efforts to save him a second time, though admirable, prove fruitless. In the end, all she's earned is injury, trauma and a front row seat to the total collapse of order in her home town.

* SimpleYetAwesome: Tracer only has two abilities: ''Blink'' (a short-cooldown, short-ranged dash) and ''Recall'' (essentially a reset button if things go bad). Together, however, those abilities are more than enough to allow her to get behind a team, wreck key targets, and then get out before taking fatal damage.

* StockShonenHero: She has the trademark [[ShonenHair spiky hair]], dresses in bright yellow/orange, and has an energetic, happy and childish personality and a strong sense of justice. Overall, she's the cheeriest character on the roster, making her a great choice for the game mascot like so many shonen heroes are for their series.

* TeleportSpam: Her entire play style is focused on her dashing around and outmaneuvering her target with her time jumping powers. This is best shown in Doomfist's origin trailer where he is unable to touch her for most of the fight.

* UnstuckInTime: The ''Slipstream'' was an experimental aircraft that made use of some form of time travel to rapidly cross great distances. Tracer's [[AcePilot credentials]] got her handpicked to helm its shakedown run, which ended with a malfunction that she survived but also did ''something'' to dislodge her from her own timeline. For months afterward, she effectively existed in limbo, constantly flickering in and out of existence for varying lengths at a time and baffling anyone who tried to help her until Winston successfully engineered her chronal accelerator, a device that [[PowerLimiter reins in her temporal fluctuations to a manageable level]] and anchors her in time. Without it, she can't maintain a physical form for long and leads an ephemeral existence, but it also allows her to exert control over her own condition and [[CursedWithAwesome use it to her advantage]] by [[TimeMaster rewinding her own timeline]] and [[FlashStep swiftly traversing short distances.]]

Two weeks later she killed Gérard in his sleep. Afterwards, she returned to Talon, her mission complete. They completed the process of turning her into a living weapon. She was given extensive training in the covert arts, and then her physiology was altered, drastically slowing her heart, which turned her skin cold and blue and numbed her ability to experience human emotion. Amélie was gone. Despite that, there are hints that Amélie's personality still reside within Widowmaker, as she still defends her late husband when someone criticizes him. Regardless, Widowmaker's persona is still dominant.\\

** Also a viable tactic for dealing with her in-game, as her equipment's effectiveness manifests the most at range: if you can rapidly close the gap with her and deny her any terrain advantage or an easy out with her grappling hook, she's as good as done.
* ADayInTheLimelight: She is the protagonist of ''Alive'' animated short.
* TheAlcoholic: Château Guillard has [[http://segadores-y-soldados.tumblr.com/post/164048891205/chateau-guillard-details multiple wine bottles, glasses and marks from where she's set them down]] scattered around the map, which implies she's been making extensive use of the wine cellar.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Justified, though exaggerated. Her skin color is a result of extremely low blood circulation (A trait that would be very useful for accurate precision shooting). This has done nothing to make her any less [[MsFanservice attractive]], however.

** She knows Gérard is dead, but whether or not she knows that ''she'' was the one who killed him and under Talon's order is left up in the air. It's also unclear if she knows exactly what Talon did to her, or if her memories were [[FakeMemories altered]] in this case, the latter being very feasible but not yet confirmed.

** To a lesser extent, the swan: both of her Legendary skins, "Odette" and "Odile", respectively make reference to the White and Black Swans of Tchaikovsky's Theatre/SwanLake. Her tattoo of a spider (which is located on her back) is replaced by a swan.

** Second, Ana, fellow Sniper from the Overwatch who [[EyeScream got her eye shot out by Widowmaker]] and the latter single-handedly ruined her mission that might become the catalyst of Overwatch's overall downfall.
* AristocratsAreEvil: The Château Guillard map reveals that her ancestry dates back to French nobility, which was likely deposed during or around UsefulNotes/TheFrenchRevolution. She certainly [[ForcedIntoEvil didn't start out that way]], but her current identity encapsulates a lot of the "haughty, disdainful elite who looks down on those she thinks are below her" aspects associated with this trope, and her "Comtesse" and "Huntress" skins appear designed evoke the imagery.
* AwesomeAnachronisticApparel: Her "Comtesse" and "Huntress" skins resemble military uniform from 19th century.

* TheBadGuyWins: At the end of ''Alive''. Also, during Ana's introduction story, Widowmaker was in charge of Talon's operations of holding hostages. Widowmaker won that one too, made Overwatch fail the mission and Ana took the opportunity to let the world think that she died.

* BeingEvilSucks: She may enjoy her job, but as it turns out there are some serious downsides to her life as an assassin. Her husband is dead, she has no friends, and all connections to her family have been presumably severed. This is highlighted in her single panel appearance in the "Reflections" comic: whereas most of the other characters have a nice Christmas with their loved ones, or at least have ''some'' company, all she has is the tombstone of Gérard to mourn to out in the [[GrayRainOfDepression pouring rain]]. Further hinted at that she's been [[DrowningMySorrows drowning her sorrows]] with alcohol at Château Guillard, with many, ''many'' wine stains found around the home. And she keeps a picture of her and Gérard on their wedding day, presumably as a TragicKeepsake.

** As of Ana's introduction, bringing up her husband Gerard—or even bad-mouthing him—is not a good idea. It's one of the few things aside from killing that will make her react strongly.

* BigFancyHouse: Her home stage, Château Guillard. While it appears to be somewhat abandoned or under renovation given the amount of crates, paint buckets, and tarps over furniture, it also appears to still be Widowmaker's current base of operation to some extent (as evidenced by her open laptop on a table and her rifle propped up next to it), and at the very least she's been there recently to schedule her flight to Monaco (referencing "Masquerade").

* BoringButPractical: ''Infra-Sight'' is unusual for an ultimate ability, since all it does is grant global vision of your enemies to you and your team, which doesn't sound all that exciting since the best it does for Widowmaker herself is make it easier to find and snipe people, something you should already been doing without it. That said, giving your entire team what's essentially a legitimate global wallhack is far from useless, and a well-practiced Widowmaker player can charge it up relatively quickly and use it to put constant pressure on the enemy, making them afraid to break out of cover and risk getting sniped even more.

* DaintyLittleBalletDancers: Widowmaker was a ballet dancer before her FaceMonsterTurn into one of the world's most feared assassins. The trope is played with, since InUniverse she was treated as a harmless civilian (and her original persona is, when contrasted with her current one), but it also meant she was physically fit enough that she was a threat after becoming BrainwashedAndCrazy.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: The dresses, that come with "Odette" and "Odile" skins, are so small you can [[PantyShot see what's under them.]]

* AnimalMotifs: He and his family carry a bear motif, Torbjorn's name means "Thor Bear" and his "Viking" skin has his claw resemble a bear, you can also make the claim that his white, fur cloak is in reference to a polar bear. His daughter, Brigitte, also carries this motif with her "Shieldmaiden" skin.

* BalanceBuff: Around late 2018, he was given a large gameplay rework to address his somewhat lackluster kit and niche kit and make him more of an effective zoner not so reliant on his turret. His ''Armor Packs'' and Scrap mechanic were removed, his original SuperMode ultimate was shifted to be a toned-down self-buff ability called ''Overload'', his turret is permanently a "level 2" and can be tossed a distance, and he gained a completely new, much more active ''Molten Core'' ultimate.

* DieselPunk: His outfit and turret have this aesthetic. The backpack he wears even having large, fire and exhaust spewing mufflers. It helps denote that his tech, while still powerful and effective, is showing its age in a world of advanced cyborgs and {{hardlight}} capable of building cities.

* EmbarrassingRescue: Torbjörn was saved by Reinhardt during a mission called operation White Dome. In the letter to Ingrid, Torbjörn still appears to be rough around the edges and jokes about the situation. However he does show gratefulness towards Reinhardt such as semi-jokingly allowing him to name his daughter and consider making him her godfather.
* EmergencyWeapon: If by some crazy circumstance you find your gun isn't worth switching to, Torbjörn's hammer can serve as a slightly better melee option than the regular QuickMelee in a pinch (55 damage compared to the QuickMelee's 30). The hammer actually used to be significantly more dangerous prior to Sombra's inclusion, where it had a slower attack speed, but did 75 damage per hit -- just as much as ''Reinhardt's''.

* {{Expy}}: His defensive, turret-building role is an easy match for the Engineer from ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'', right down to [[PercussiveMaintenance whacking his equipment]] to make it operate faster. He can also collect a supply of scrap metal, though unlike the Engineer he does not use it to build and upgrade his turret but to make armor packs--which, amusingly enough, was a ''VideoGame/TeamFortressClassic'' Engineer skill. Torbjörn also doesn't have any equivalent to Dispensers (due to the abundance of healing sources and the fact all heroes carry infinite clips) or Teleporters (which is Symmetra's ability). After the September 2018, the resemblance is much smaller, making Torbjörn much more of a direct combatant.
* EyePatchOfPower: Apparently he somehow lost his right eye and wears a red, metallic-looking eyepatch over it. It gets replaced with a more traditional one in his "Barbarossa" and "Blackbeard" skins.
* FantasticRacism: He was always distrustful of self-aware AI and the first Omnic crisis justified him, but even in the present day he's quite racist towards Omnics regardless of their personality, letting off a RapidFireNo when the match is in Numbani (a city where human and Omnic live in peace together) and ''complimenting'' the apartheid-esque conditions in King's Row, even saying "the Brits have their heads on straight!". Even when compliments Omnic teammates, they're still undercut with [[YouAreACreditToYourRace racist undertones]]. However, he is still willing to tolerate some Omnics, and in "Binary" he actually ''protects'' Bastion when he realizes it's gone against its normal, violent programming and is instead relatively peaceful, to the point that it runs away when shot at.
* FireBreathingDiner: One of his unique intros is to drink some of his ''molten slag'', then a moment later belch out some fire.

** With Symmetra it's more one sided. Torb playfully teasing her about tendency towards being ThePerfectionist, while Symmetra criticizes his technology as being obsolete. It is mostly centered around their similar roles of area denial and defense boost (Torbs mechanical turrets and physical armor plating vs Symmetra's {{Hardlight}} constructs and barrier shielding).

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He displays FantasticRacism and shows himself to be a little condescending and grumpy towards allies and enemies alike, but he's a stalwart defender of mankind and genuinely gave his all to protect the world during the Omnic Crisis, not solely because of a chance to legally destroy the Omnics as he likes. In the comic Binary [[spoiler:he overcomes his racism enough to learn that the last Bastion unit is more or less harmless and finally leads it away from the village rather than leaving it to a confrontation with the locals in which first they and then (after military reinforcements) it would die, all the while noting that [[FriendshipDenial ''this doesn't mean they're friends!]]'']]

** In "Binary," he actually chooses to [[spoiler: protect Bastion from the police rather than kill it, because Bastion is peaceful and behaving differently from the cold, mechanical killers from the Omnic Crisis.]]

* ProperlyParanoid: Apparently he was the only one who worried that AIs could [[TurnedAgainstTheirMasters rebel]]. [[IWarnedYou Up until he was proven right]] with the whole RobotWar thing.

* PowerEchoes: His voice has a bellowing echo when he activate his SuperMode.

* PyrrhicVictory: Was instrumental in ending the Omnic Crisis and creating Overwatch, but for all his efforts, Omnics still got the rights they wanted from the very start with several of his teammates outright supporting those rights.

%%* SkillGateCharacter: New Torb players can at least rely on his level 2 turret to harass the enemy team and throw armor packs on the floor as he passively generates scrap. However, new players (especially new-to-Overwatch [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 Engie]] players) are often fixated on keeping the turret up at all costs (allowing an enemy team to pick off Torb easily), do not know maps well enough to position the turret to get the maximum effect, rarely ever fight with Torbjörn himself and use ''Molten Core'' only to save themselves or the turret. A veteran Torb will know where to place the turret and when to repair/redeploy it, will master Torb's rivet gun to increase his damage output (and to faster charge up ''Molten Core'') and will know when to activate ''Molten Core'' to wipe or repel an entire enemy team.

** Prior to his October 2018 rework, ''Overload'''s predecessor was his original ''Molten Core'' ultimate, which greatly increased his armor, his build, repair and fire rates, and temporarily transformed his Level 2 turret into a much more durable [[HavingABlast and aggressive]] Level 3 turret.

* TrueCompanions: With Reinhardt, This was cemented after he saved Torbjörn in operation White Dome. Since that day, Reinhardt is a firm friend of the Lindholm family and godfather of Brigitte.

Tracer is a Damage character who uses her incredible speed to zip around the map, harassing and ambushing foes. Her ''Pulse Pistols'' fire rapidly and deal consistent damage at close range. Her incredible mobility comes from her ''Blink'' ability, which allows her to teleport a set distance horizontally and has three charges that replenish over time. This and her ''Recall'', which resets Tracer's location and health to where they were exacly three seconds ago while fully reloading her pistols, make her the perfect skirmisher. Her ultimate, ''Pulse Bomb'', tosses out a sticky grenade that adheres to the first enemy or surface it hits and explodes shortly after, dealing massive damage to foes within its blast.

* TheAce: She is internationally recognized as both a skilled gunfighter and a world-class pilot, her personality exudes confidence, and she's presumably known and beloved by enough of the general public that even [[FriendToAllChildren children]] are able to joyfully identify her upon sight. The still from ''Are You With Us?'' of her and the others at a UN ceremony would also suggest that somewhere in the two-year span between ''Uprising'' and Overwatch's collapse she went from a rookie cadet to someone credible enough to warrant recognition while standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the founders. All of this in time for her ''[[ImprobableAge 21st]]'' birthday. And if you consider the in-game emotes to be canon, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking she's a nifty little dancer, too]]. As part of the playing card-themed sprays for the Anniversary event, she's even represented by the ''Ace'' of Diamonds.

Torbjörn is a Damage character who excels at setting up his turret at key defensive areas, then engaging the frontlines to take down enemies and support his allies. His main weapon is the versatile ''Rivet Gun'', which can either fire rivets as long range projectiles or eject molten slag in a shotgun burst at close enemies. He also has access to his trusty ''Forge Hammer'', which can be swung as a melee weapon in a pinch, but much more importantly is used for his to repair his turret. With his ''Deploy Turret'' ability, Torbjörn tosses one stationary sentry gun that automatically fires at nearby foes; he can use his primary weapon to direct who the turret will focus on. Torbjörn's second ability is ''Overload'', which upon activation gives him a temporary boost to rate of fire, health, and movement speed, allowing him to better scrap with opponents directly. His ultimate, ''Molten Core'', gives Torbjörn's the ability to fire up to ten molten projectiles that spawn a damaging pool of burning slag where they land, dealing massive damage to anyone who steps in it with increased damage to heroes with armor.\\

Torbjörn's current kit is based off a major rework since September 2018. Prior to his rework,
Torbjörn's turret deployed as a weaker Level 1 turret that could be upgraded using his ''Forge Hammer'' into Level 2 for increased health and firepower. Instead of ''Overload'', he had a passive called ''Scrap Collector'' that generated Scrap over time as well as from the corpses of defeated heroes, which he could expend to toss out ''Armor Packs'' that he or his allies could pick up to gain extra armor. His previous ultimate, also called ''Molten Core'', overheated Torbjörn's personal forge for a few seconds, granting him a large bonus to his armor, scrap, firing speed and turret building speed, and an active Level 2 turret would temporarily upgrade to Level 3, with even more health and an extra rocket launcher for even greater firepower.

** She's also almost a direct rip on Natasha Romanoff, AKA ComicBook/BlackWidow. If the names and heavy association with the same type of spider didn't make it clear enough, both of them are ruthless [[DarkActionGirl female assassins]] from a European country who run around in [[SpyCatsuit tight catsuits]] and are incredibly acrobatic. Additionally, both of them are former ballerinas, differing only in that Black Widow's ballet experience was a part of her [[TrainingFromHell life in the Red Room]], while Widowmaker was an actual professional ballerina before her conversion by Talon. The biggest difference between them is their current role in the story: Black Widow spent most of her life as an assassin for the bad guys, before switching to the side of good - [[AntiHero mostly]] - while Widowmaker was a civilian who followed [[FaceMonsterTurn the opposite moralpath.]]

The trope is played with, since InUniverse she was treated as a harmless civilian (and her original persona is contrasted with her current one), but it also meant she was physically fit enough that she was a threat after becoming BrainwashedAndCrazy.

* AntiFrustrationFeatures: Widowmaker's Grappling Hook automatically locks onto the closest ledge/wall closest where you aimed at so that when you hook onto it, you're almost always guaranteed to actually position onto it instead of clipping then falling off it without having to be incredibly precise.
