A beginner player of ''Elder Tale'', Touya and his twin sister Minori joined the game as a way to experience new things. They met Shiroe not long after joining the game and picked up lots of useful advice from him. They were unfortunately separated after the Catastrophe [[spoiler: and were unwittingly led to join Hamelin, a guild which exploits beginner players and Touya was forced to battle monsters for the guild. After the forced disbandment of Hamelin, he joined the newly-established Log Horizon guild.]]

* DoesNotLikeShoes: He can be seen barefoot outside while relaxing from time to time. This carries its own meaning when considering his past life as a paraphlegic, as he would be unable to feel anything through his feet back then; having recovered the ability in ''Elder Tale'', it is likely he is relishing on it that way.

* GlacierWaif: His class specialises in powerful attacks with long cooldown times; however, since his character in ''Elder Tale'' is modelled after his actual body size, his strength is incongruous to his teenaged appearance.
* IShallTauntYou: He has several taunt skills such as ''Samurai Challenge'' that make monsters believe he is doing heavy damage when he is not, so he can hold their attention.

* NotDisabledInVR: He is paraphlegic in real life, but in the world of Elder Tale, he's trying extra hard to fight for and protect what he considers precious.

The twin sister of Touya, Minori started playing ''Elder Tale'' at the same time as Touya. Like her brother, she deeply admires Shiroe for his vast knowledge and helpful personality. [[spoiler: Became lower-levelled than her brother as a result of her time in Hamelin where she was forced to produce items for the guild and later joined the Log Horizon guild after the disbandment of Hamelin.]]

* TheWorfEffect: In the anime at least, he's set up to be one of Brigandia's strongest members, possibly even stronger than Demikas himself. However, [[spoiler:he's easily one shotted offscreen by Akatsuki.]] This is done to emphasize [[spoiler: Akatsuki]] ability to kill quickly and silently.

[[spoiler:Things came crashing down however the moment Elder Tales became reality. With her only refuge becoming "real" Nureha, already emotionally unstable to begin with, broke. Terrified that her "soiled true self" might be found out by Shiroe, this made her vulnerable to Indicus' manipulations.]]

Nureha is the last of the three "main heroines" of Log Horizon, after Akatsuki and Minori, but in her case "villainous" would be more accurate.

* GrewASpine: After suffering much emotional abuse at the hands of [[ManipulativeBastard Indicus]], she orders her and all of Plant Hwyaden to restore normal relations with Eastal. She also begins to take a much greater part in running Minami on her own, rather than as Indicus' puppet. This in turn though leads Indicus to start a CivilWar.

* BrooklynRage: He attributes his ability to adapt to the dangerous world of Theldesia to being an New York native.

** There was a quest in "Elder Tales" involving a character called "Red-Nosed Princess", who drugs him into sleep, thus prompting adventurers to rescue him. [[spoiler: Leonardo's headcannon at the time was that he actually felt sorry for the pitiful princess and kept her company. Volume 19 implies this is correct.]]

* CrutchCharacter: His role when Elder Tale was still a game was to assist players with tough adventures; assist but never do it for them. Look at his status! Not only is he ''Level 100'', but the anime gives him almost 150% more HP and 200% MP of ''any'' Adventurer character introduced so far.

* OnlySaneMan: In volume 19, he compares himself to "the project manager of a dumpster fire" because of all the trouble the group jumps into despite his objections.

* TheRedBaron: ''Black-Hearted Shiroe'' and ''Villain in Glasses''. [[spoiler:Sometime in the future, he will be known as the ''Chronicler of the East''.]]

A guild initially native to Akiba, since the Catastrophe they have decided to not tie themselves down to a single Main/HubCity, and instead travel the countryside fighting whatever foes they could find. They firmly believe that, if they die enough times, they can return back to the real world; to this end, they carry around a portable resurrection shrine, with not only facilitates their nomadic nature, but gets them back into the fight quickly when they die.

* PettingZooPeople: Is supposed to be a WolfMan, but like all of the Wolf Hair race only exhibits dog ears and tail when in combat or under stress.

** While his skill with planning is acknowledged by veterans in Akihabara, Shiroe's reputation among the general adventurer population isn't that good, where the perception that he's an InUniverse MagnificentBastard overrides whatever good intentions he might have had during a particular event. It gets so bad that, by Book 5 and the later episodes of the anime, Minori makes it her responsibility to salvage Shiroe's reputation. [[MistakenForPedophile Unfortunately, it does more harm than good.]] [[spoiler:He uses this to the fullest by playing GoodCopBadCop by pretending to be rude and harsh towards Reynesia, only for Krusty to help her out.]]

* FailureHero: Because he was never supposed to steal kills from the adventures/players, he would always fail at some critical moment when ''Elder Tales'' was a game. Despite being "the strongest of the Ancients" he's never actually killed anyone in battle.

[[spoiler: In truth, he never wanted to kill in the first place. Rather, he wanted to save and protect without taking life. Leonardo reminds him of this during their IKnowYoureInTheirSomewhereFight. It's not a curse but a HeroicVow.]]

A cleric that Kanami encountered as she passed through Europe. Prior to the Catastrophe, Coppelia was bot account used by a Chinese player to farm gold to sell for real money. In the wake of the Catastrophe, [[InstantAIJustAddWater Coppelia gained thoughts and a personality of her own]], but not sure what to do she fell into old habits, and continued farming the area she spawned in for gold dropped from monsters. When the village she normally returned to deposit her loot got destroyed, she joins up with Kanami, in the hopes of finding a newer purpose to her existence.

* StoneWall: Her build basically makes her this. It makes sense, as it makes for easier farming.

* HotBlooded: Look at his catchphrase and the nature of his combo; this guy is full throttle in combat.

When she confesses this to Rudy, he has nothing to say to her to console her, because she brought this on herself; in fact, he'd tried to stop her, but she ignored him.]]

* ControlFreak: Indicus tends to grow angry when defied. When [[spoiler:Nureha]] ordered against her plans against Akihabara, she attempted to punch Nureha in the face, only being stopped by Kazuhiko. She ultimately starts a CivilWar because of this.

* EvilIsPetty: Kanami rewards years of loyalty by disbanding the group that made life in the game fun, due to unavoidable real-life issues? Why, [[spoiler:''burn her reputation to the ground and spit on the ashes''.]]

The de-factor leader of Debauchery Tea Party. It was her departure for Europe that caused the members of the group to go its seperate ways. [[spoiler:Like many of the former members of the group, Kanami is also trapped in Elder Tale, but is now determined to get back to Japan, even if she has to travel ''overland'' to do so. She does exactly that, picking up a unique group of travelling companions on the way.]]

* DotingParent: [[spoiler: Kanami has a three-year-old daughter and she gushes about how cute she is, and how much she wants to show her the world of Elder Tales.]]

* HeroOfAnotherStory: Literally; it's a different story occurring parallel with the main one. Episode 14 of season 2 (and Volume 9 of the Light Novels) give the viewer/reader a glimpse at what she's been up to. The China group's side story will span three volumes, and two of them are already complete (volume 9 and volume 11).
