* WouldntHitAGirl: This attitude angers several female opponents and wins the affection of some others. He is acutely aware of how stupid this attitude is, and knows that there are several women in the series that could kick his ass even if he ''was'' willing to fight back, [[HonorBeforeReason but he still refuses to hit them on principle.]] He reaches the point where he can seriously spar with Miu or use grapple techniques on female opponents.

* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The light to Renka Ma's dark because she is less flirty, more modest and makes snakes for him on occasion.

** It's pretty obvious that she wears ''nothing'' under her spandex battle outfit. It's a leotard after all. It would be redundant.
** As [[spoiler:Bulu]], it doesn't seem as though Miu is wearing ''anything'' from the waist down except for those leg bands.

* SensualSpandex: Her fighting uniform is ridiculously skintight.

* FullFrontalAssault: She can and will fight in the nude if she has to. She seems perfectly relaxed fighting nude when attacked [[HotSpringsEpisode at an onsen]]. In front of her disciple no less.

* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: While she won't admit to it [[spoiler: for a while anyway]], she is as clear as possible without being explicit that Kenichi is hers and is quite protective of him. This was most prominent when Kenchi was still a novice martial artist. In that period, Ma Kensei pointed out to her that this was not good, because this [[HelpingWouldBeKillstealing deprived Kenichi of gaining combat experience]]. After Kenichi [[TookALevelInBadass took enough levels in badass]], this became less prominent, but she actually never stopped being protective of him. Note also that her style of fighting is much more aggressive than Kenichi's.

* WhatIsThisFeeling: When she sees Renka flirting with Kenichi, Miu finds herself confused at feeling jealousy for the first time.

** In chapter 422 [[spoiler: he shared with Kenichi some tips for fighting when you're wounded: don't let your opponent know you're hurt, avoid unnecessarily large movements, and don't let rage overtake you]]. [[ImmediateSelfContradiction Guess]] [[SayMyName what]] [[SuperReflexes he]] [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown does]].

* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: [[spoiler: This seems to be the attitude Sakaki and Akira have towards one another.]]

* TheManMakesTheWeapon: Any she wields will be turned into a deadly weapon. As she has proven she was already invincible with only a newspaper. Or a wooden spoon. Or a hair ribbon. Or a mouthful of needles. [[spoiler: The Yami put her in special restraints--basically embedding her hands and feet in solid masses of a specially fortified resin--because they didn't dare let her get hold of handcuffs.]]

* ImprobableWeaponUser: The reason why Shigure is known as a weapons master. She can use anything as a weapon. Shigure once took down an armed group of girls using only a ''wooden spoon''.

* TheStoic: She's a downplayed version, as, despite her general lack of expression, her emotions are almost comically obvious.

* MusclesAreMeaningless: While much slimmer than some of the other masters, he has built his body to perfection via ArtMajorBiology.

* PurelyAestheticGlasses: She wears glasses as a way to dim her looks.

* DramaticEllipsis: When she... talks it's very... SLOW. Unless she's training Kenichi, where she speaks fasater.

* TheTease: Very much so in Kenichi's case. She's tried to get room for the night by saying that they were a couple (it was really for saving money), taking a bath with him fully nude, and generally not caring if he sees her naked or not. * SoBeautifulItsACurse: She is so beautiful that she had some social problems at her last school because of it (implied to be other girls bullying her). To that end, in her current school she puts on glasses and wears her hair in braids to make herself look plainer.

* GenerationXerox: [[spoiler:In the penultimate chapter, Saiga remarks that Kenichi is way too much like Hayato. Apparently Saiga and Hayato had a running bet on which of them Kenichi would turn out more like, as one panel in the same chapter has Hayato cordially saying that he ''told'' Saiga that Kenichi would take on more of his own traits and not Saiga's]].
