** Ryouma is the MagnificentBastard that Micchy thinks he is, while Sid is the selfish, backstabbing slimeball that Micchy would actually grow up to be if he never changed his ways.

* BadassBeard: He has a small goatee, which makes him look sleazy enough before he's revealed as a villain.

He initially uses the Melon Lock Seed and the Sengoku Driver to transform into Armored Rider Zangetsu. Later, he becomes the first[[note]]''Duke Gaiden'' revealed him to actually be the second, after Sengoku.[[/note]] user of the next-generation Genesis Driver, which, along with the Melon Energy Lock Seed, allows him to transform into New Generation Rider Zangetsu Shin[[note]]"Shin" = "new". Often used as a prefix to indicate the new (and perfected) iteration of something, much in the same way "Super" was added onto videogame sequels like Super Mario Bros. or Super Metroid.[[/note]].

* WorldsBestWarrior: It's pretty much agreed upon by both the Beat Riders and Yggdrasil that he is impossible to beat one-on-one. Case in point? [[spoiler:It took ''every'' other New Generation Rider working together to beat him, and even then Ryoma implied that, had Takatora not been knocked off balance by Ryoma's betrayal, he still might have won.]]

** During ''Movie War Full Throttle'', [[spoiler:he takes on Cyborg!Ryoma one on one. Ryoma is connected to Megahex at this point and is using Dragon Energy Arms while Takatora has only the basic Melon Lockseed and the Sengoku Driver. Takatora still wins.]]

* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: As the creator of the rider gears in this show filled with multiple riders, he is the polar opposite to [[Series/KamenRiderRyuki Shiro Kanzaki]]. He created the gears in order to fullfill his selfish agenda of grasping the Golden fruit by any means, while Kanzaki created his rider gears so he could save his sister from her impending death even at the cost of the riders' lives.

* NotSoDifferent: To [[spoiler:''Sagara'']] of all people. [[spoiler:Instead of trying to get power for themselves, both choose to support someone else in the fight out of a desire to see what kind of person can obtain the Forbidden Fruit first.]]

** Kouta: Takatora is TheCynic while Kouta is TheIdealist. [[spoiler:Both men are ultimately well-intentioned and want to protect humanity. Takatora is willing to commit various atrocities in order to make sure that the human race is able to survive; Kouta remains steadfast in wanting to save everyone and disapproves of Yggdrasil's methods. However, the two eventually realize they are NotSoDifferent and Takatora is eager to take a more idealistic alternative when it presents itself. Both men also follow a ThouShallNotKill mentality, though whereas Kouta actively adopts it after he learns the AwfulTruth and is willing to drop it when it comes to fighting the Overlords, Takatora subconsciously has it in his mind and never dropping it, even when his job requires him to at least kill ''some'' people.]]

* NotSoDifferent: Both Takatora and Kouta have doubts about fighting the Inves, care for those close to them, and ultimately want to protect people; the key difference between them is that [[spoiler:Takatora has accepted the idea that innocent people must be sacrificed for the greater good, while Kouta wants to save everyone.]]

* ArcVillain: They are the main antagonists of the Yggdrasill and Helheim Saga.

* BigBrotherIsWatchingYou / SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands: There are Yggdrasill agents armed with video cameras to film anything related to the Crack occurences in Zawame City for the purpose of research. Even Helheim Forest is no exception. Incidents [[spoiler: such as Yuya eating an unripe Lock Seed and transforming into the Byakko Inves only to get killed by Gaim]] were all caught on tape.

* DiscOneFinalBoss: In the beginning, Yggdrasill was played up to be the evil organization that the Beat Riders had to take down. [[spoiler: Then the Overlords appeared, {{Enemy Civil War}} ensues, and Yggdrasill collapses, mid-series.]]
* EnemyCivilWar: [[spoiler: After Takatora is betrayed, the company's inner circle rips itself apart.]]

* MegaCorp: Played straight to a T. Yggdrasill controls most businesses and socioeconomic aspects of Zawame City. They claimed to have improved the quality of living of the citizens, which is a debatable point. [[spoiler: On the other hand, Yggdrasill has kept the residents of Zawame City in the dark about the Helheim threat. Among their methods of combating the threat include preparing a WMD that can wipe out the entire city anytime with the press of a button. However, Yggdrasill's Project Ark takes the cake. A top secret plan to kill off 6/7 of the world's population.]]

* RenegadeSplinterFaction: One [[spoiler: led by Professor Sengoku Ryoma that has completely taken over the organization with Takatora as the only Rider that is not a member of Ryoma's nut club.]]
* SelfDisposingVillain: [[spoiler: Yggdrasill basically defeated itself: after Takatora was apparently killed, the other New Generation Riders proceeded to rip the organization into pieces, allowing Redyue to easily conquer its main headquarters. The final nail in the coffin was when Ryoma revealed the secrets of Project Ark to the whole world. Honestly, Kouta could have sat on his ass twiddling his thumbs and waited for Yggdrasill to implode on itself.]]
* SupervillainLair: Yggdrasill Tower. It towers over Zawame City, has a permanent portal to Helheim in it, is heavily armed with laser guns, has an [[InvisibilityCloak stealth camoflage system]] to stop the populace from realizing anything weird is going on, and possesses the Scalar System, a weapon of mass destruction that can destroy the entire city and kill everyone in it. [[spoiler: From #32 onward the building is used by the Overlords as their landing site on Earth, making it their own SupervillainLair. In the epilogue, it is shown being dismantled.]]
* VillainsWantMercy: In episode 11, when the Yggdrasill camp is being overrun by Inves, one of the scientists begs Kouta for help despite laughing and talking about how the Beat Riders are just guinea pigs before. Kouta calls him out on being a {{hypocrite}}, but still helps save the day.

* TheAllegedBoss: While he's supposedly TheLeader and BigBad of the New Generation Riders, none of them actually follow his commands and really defer to Professor Ryoma.

* AntiRoleModel: He comes to consider himself one. [[spoiler: He thinks he provided a poor example for Micchy and unintentionally inspired him to become the ruthless, two-faced villain he is today after he was so easily fooled over the course of the series. Kouta later gives him another chance, though he needed some convincing after being so discouraged with both his own incapability and how far Micchy had fallen.]]

*** [[spoiler: While still firmly a hero, both the stage show and the Gridon Vs Bravo special show he's still capable of manipulating others if he feels the need to.]]

* TheAtoner: If he didn't clash with Kouta, who turns out has a same ideal to safe humanity, yet powerful than Takatora, he and Mitsuzane could have been a family friend. This was shown when he finds out [[spoiler: his father's dark secret]], in which almost affects his life. * CainAndAbel: With Mitsuzane, though surprisingly [[spoiler: he's the Abel, as Mitsuzane ends up being much more antagonistic than he is.]]

* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: In #29 [[spoiler: Takatora meets Rosyuo, King of the Overlords, who saves his life and regales him with his life story.]]

* TheDreaded: Kouta is scared to death of him. And after #11, this also applies to everyone but Micchy and Oren. Even the other New Generation Riders fear him. [[spoiler: When the time comes to betray him, Minato is actually cautious and after his supposed death Sid feels confident enough to betray Ryoma.]]

* HappilyMarried: In the Soccer World, he has a sick wife, paralleling him with Roshuo and his queen.

** Likewise, even before that, chronologically, he was unaware that, as part of the Lockseed project, [[spoiler: his father had commissioned experimentation on children. * PsychoticSmirk: Flashes a Sid-worthy one when [[spoiler: he shows Kouta that he killed Yuya]].

** In the ''Gridon Vs. Bravo'' Gaiden Movie [[spoiler: Takatora fights Bravo in his corrupted powered up King Durian form...using the ''Donguri'' lockseed (by far the weakest lockseed outside the Kurokages). He's hold on against Bravo in an impressive back and forth, even if the Gridon form ultimately proves to be too weak to win. He then goes up against Sylphi using his own belt, which puts her up against Zangetsu Kachidoki, his latest form which seems to greatly surpass Kouta's version in power. He ''annihilates'' her.]]

* YankTheDogsChain: Takatora was actually happy in #28, smiling and basically acting like an adult Kouta. [[spoiler: Cue his brother and comrades' [[SarcasmMode completely unexpected]] betrayal.]]

* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler: After losing his Genesis Driver and the Melon Energy Lockseed during the coup, which allowed him to become Zangetsu Shin, Takatora's only able to become the regular Zangetsu when he has to fight Mitsuzane, who took his brother's Genesis Driver and Lockseed. Despite this disadvantage, Takatora's fighting skills allow him to overpower Mitsuzane as Zangetsu Shin, only stopping himself with the finishing blow. * EvilLaugh: In #25 he tries to keep himself from doing this [[spoiler: when Sagara confirms that Helheim contains a "forbidden fruit" that grants great power.]]

* GreaterScopeVillain: Ryōma's activities and creations cause him to serve as this in many ways. In fact, the ''only'' villains from the series he isn't this to are the villains from the two Movie Wars starring ''Gaim''[[note]]he has no connections to Bujin Gaim, and he's TheDragon to Megahex[[/note]], and all the villains associated with Badan in ''Kamen Rider Taisen''.

** Ryōma directly created the Forbidden Apple Lockseed, which makes him this to its user, Armored Rider Iðunn, and to [[spoiler:Kugai Kudō, whose [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence Ascent To A Higher Plane Of Existence]] was caused by an experiment with the Forbidden Apple Lockseed gone horribly wrong]] despite the latter being the villain of his own ''Gaim Gaiden'' special. As such, he's indirectly responsible for the events of ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu'' and ''Kamen Rider Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Duke'', despite being the [[VillainProtagonist protagonist]] of the latter. *** Aside from Ryōma building her Driver and the Lockseed she uses, Iðunn's backstory involves her being experimented on by Yggdrasill. * HateSink: His overall actions has made him far worse than Sid (though probably because [[spoiler: Sid was already killed before he could demonstrate his own true villainy]]), since he almost put the world into utter destruction due his experiments and his ambitions of grasping the Forbidden Fruit.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: [[spoiler: Ryoma doesn't care about Project Ark and is only going along with it so he can take the resources for whatever it is he's ''really'' planning.]]

* KickTheSonOfABitch: [[spoiler: A villainous example. He kicks Micchy's ass after revealing his XanatosGambit. Also doubles as a KickTheDog moment, since Micchy is already emotionally broken from Kouta and Mai's supposed deaths at this point.]]

Both are extremely enigmatic figures who have the same mysterious powers concerning Helheim, both love vague philosophical filibusters, and both seem to be the only people who seem to know what the heck is going on. But then they diverge, the Woman is a pessimistic, cynical fatalist who believe everyone is doomed to whatever fate she has seen and tells them to run. In contrast DJ Sagara is a cheery idealist who tells destiny to screw itself while convincing people to stand up and fight for what they believe in. Subverted that the Woman of the Beginning, in fact Mai fused with the Golden Fruit, and having seen tragedy after tragedy unfold for her friends, is justified, while his idealism is part of his scheme as a Biblical snake archetype. He then goes up against Silphy using his own belt, which puts her up against Zangetsu Kachidoki, his latest form which seems to greatly surpass Kouta's version in power. He ''annihilates'' her.]]
