* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: Lucifer goes about trying to [[TheCorrupter convince Azazel to further become a Fallen Angel]] by telling her the 'disguise' would help her study Demons and Sin even better. Come some undetermined time in the future, this disguise and goal would end up toppling Lucifer from the throne of Hell and give rise to the Loremaster]]. [[GoneHorriblyRight Sometimes, she does her job a little too well.

* DidNotGetTheGirl: Basically none of the girls seem to actually see him as a substantial romantic partner other than potentially Modeus, given her blushing at the idea of a date with him, and her being only one hugging him in the normal ending slide, [[spoiler:whereas Beelzebub is the only one confirmed to have at least ''some'' amount of feelings and interest in him, but that's only in the timeline where he willingly traps himself in the Abyss with her, making him lose out on his original harem]]. The others, in the end, just become loud and rowdy roommates rather than a harem devoted to him, with Azazel even being implied to only be interested in the demon girls. However, he takes it in stride, being happy to have made friends. All comics so far seem to support him not really being in a relationship with any of the girls, and being happy nonetheless. The guy must have been lonely to make do with the company he keeps. [[spoiler:Given what Azazel, Modeus and Pandemonica were doing to him, it's safe to say there's no chastity involved when it comes to the three of them. Add to that the romance aspects with Lucifer and the aforementioned Modeus and we can definitely say he ''did'' get at least a few girls, even though he doesn't seem exactly... ''enthusiastic'' in the comic in question]].

* MoralityChain: In a similar capacity to Judgment, he does what he can to reign in the girls' antics when they're going too far as he comes across them, shown best with Cerberus - and [[spoiler:in the [[AlternateTimeline post-Abysstaker timeline]] all of them are shown to be acting out a lot more in his absence]].

* OutOfFocus: Despite being the main character of the story, most of the comics posted starting near the end of 2020 have completely left him out, not showing up in even a single panel. Though this case is fully justified due to them taking place during [[spoiler:the timeline where he's trapped in the Abyss with Beelzebub]], so his lessened focus is understandable.

* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:''Examtaker'' is strongly implied to take place far enough in the future that a regular adult human during the main story would've died long ago, but the story leaves it vaguely uncertain if the Helltaker is dead, as it takes place in the Abysstaker timeline and the story heavily implies that time doesn't flow in the Abyss, so there's the possibility he could still be alive in there]].
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: All he wanted was to create a harem of demon girls, and decided that having an angel girl among them would do nicely too, but he never planned far enough to consider the potential consequences of what might happen to Azazel due to being surrounded by demonic influence. He also didn't consider what might happen if he [[spoiler:trapped himself in the Abyss with Beelzebub in the "Abysstaker" timeline, leaving the demon girls to run amok on Earth with only Judgement to reign them in, as him no longer being their MoralityChain meant that the demons, especially Lucifer, were free to influence Azazel into becoming a FallenAngel. Absolutely nobody could've imagined she'd become such a powerful demon that she eventually conquered Hell and turned it into her personal playground for expanding demonic research, which was only possible due to the Helltaker's random but simple quest to fulfill an odd desire]].

* CuteMonsterGirl: All of the demons are fairly attractive women with horns, with the exception of Cerberus, who is instead one soul inhabiting a trio of LittleBitBeastly bodies with dog ears and tails, and Beelzebub, a massive fly-like AnimalisticAbomination [[spoiler:[[AFormYouAreComfortableWith until the secret ending]]]].

* FallenAngel: Several of them are this, with Lucifer and Judgement almost casually confirmed as such by Justice in a comic (who noticeably ''doesn't'' refer to herself as one despite her more moral standing among the demons, and the fact that she seems to believe Azazel's delusion that falling isn't real implies she never was an angel) while Azazel is slowly falling into this [[spoiler:and completes her fall in the timeline that leads to ''Examtaker'']]. It's ambiguous if any others are too or are "natural" demons.
* HornedHumanoid: Every demon except Cerberus. Among them, all have black horns with the exception of Lucifer and [[spoiler:Beelzebub]], who have white horns instead. According to bonus material, demon horns gradually turn white as they age, but it would take a very long time for them to turn completely white. This implies that the two of them have been alive for a very long time.
* HumanoidAbomination: All of the demons look like white-haired human-like girls with tails and horns (or dog ears in Cerberus' case), with the sole exception of Beelzebub who is an AnimalisticAbomination [[spoiler:and even then she can take on a more humanlike form as well]]. Based on the prequel comics involving Malina and Lucifer mentioning her only having limited shapeshifting (where she still retains her humanoid shape), these are also their true forms, again with the exception of Beelzebub [[spoiler:who appears to be the only one with proper {{shapeshifting}} powers, though only used for becoming AFormYouAreComfortableWith]].

* MysticalWhiteHair: All of the demons have white hair. The fact Azazel's hair starts to turn gray as a result of her gradually becoming a FallenAngel implies white hair is an inherently demonic attribute. [[spoiler:The events of the ''Examtaker'' DLC later confirm this, as Azazel finally has fallen from grace and become a demon, with her hair turning white to go along with it.]]
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: All of the demon girls have color schemes that consist primarily of red and black, with a few of them also using white. Noticeably, all of them use black as the major color of their suits with red as the secondary [[spoiler:with the exception of Beelzebub, who instead inverts the color relationship with most of her clothing being red with black underneath]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Most of the demons have blood-red eyes, Justice and Judgement being the exceptions, and almost all of the demons with them are incredibly dangerous, being one step away from violently murdering you if you give them an excuse to. [[spoiler:The sole exception to this is Beelzebub, who despite her also having red eyes in both fly and human form, poses no risks of harming you, mainly because either she's normally unable to physically interact with you in the first place, or you're the only other person trapped with her in the void and it was lonely there]].

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Outside of a select few whose fates are shown, it's unknown what happened to the rest of the harem [[spoiler:during the events of ''Examtaker''. Still, Loremaster losing her arms in the process of conquering hell implies that at least some of them fought back and were potentially killed]].

* HaremSeeker: At least in the timeline where the Helltaker wound up trapped in [[spoiler:the Abyss with Beelzebub]]. After the man brought his demon-girl harem back to Earth with him and then vanished, Modeus decided to follow in his footsteps by [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1341057243349979136 trying to create a harem of human guys]], and unlike him, she has no qualms about using "questionable" methods to do so, such as concocting experimental chemicals in the pursuit of creating a functioning LovePotion. She apparently does stuff like this often enough that she frequently shares the "punishment sofa" with Cerberus.

* AmbiguouslyBi: While her interest in women is fairly obvious, there are hints in ''Examtaker'' that she has a thing for handsome men, too. [[spoiler:That is, if Loremaster's suggestive remarks to Subject 67 are anything to go by]].

* FallenAngel: Her time living among demons has had an impact on her. One of the comics reveals that [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1374027338854334464 her hair has started to turn from black to grey]], all but confirming that she's starting to fall since every demon has MysticalWhiteHair. Azazel remains in denial about it, buying tons of hair dye to keep her hair black (which doesn't work). The denial grows further when she [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1384183929389740041 finds a horn-like bump]] growing from her scalp, rebuking Justice's explanation about the falling of Judgement and Lucifer as [[FlatEarthAtheist just fairy-tales perpetuated as a joint-effort between Heaven and Hell]]. Lucifer [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1386698592937709570 stirs the pot]] by suggesting that Azazel could try going deeper undercover if she looks more like a demon, a temptation that Azazel falls for hook, line, and sinker. [[spoiler:In the far future, she falls completely and becomes Loremaster--all the while remaining completely convinced that she's still an angel]].
* FatalFlaw: [[CuriosityIsACrapshoot Curiosity]]. Spending so much time around sinful demons and joining in their antics is leading Azazel on the path to becoming a FallenAngel because she just can't resist the temptation to learn more about them. Though she's in heavy denial about falling, the evidence piles up enough that she planned to return to Heaven to be treated for her condition. But Lucifer tempts her with the idea of being "in disguise" as a demon to learn facts about Hell that no angel would ever know. Azazel's so smitten with the idea that her fall is guaranteed. [[spoiler:So guaranteed in fact, that in the timeline where the Helltaker goes to be with Beelzebub, Azazel becomes so corrupted by sin that she becomes Loremaster, the new overlord of Hell]].
* FlatEarthAtheist: Azazel is in heavy denial about becoming a FallenAngel, saying that the concept of "falling" is a myth spread by the Church to ScareEmStraight. Even when Zdrada tells her that falling is real, Azazel would rather believe Zdrada works for the Church. Her denial grows further when she starts growing horns, with her taking Justice's mentioning of Judgement and Lucifer falling as a sign that Heaven and Hell are working together to maintain the "lie" about the fallen angel "fairy tale" being real. All the while, the obvious fact that she's falling from grace continues to be a point of major denial for Azazel. [[spoiler:Even losing her halo after becoming Loremaster doesn't convince her that she's no longer an angel and turned into a full-fledged demon, deluding herself into believing it just fell off and she misplaced it rather than it vanishing into nothing once her fall was complete]].

* TokenGoodTeammate: Fitting for the sole angel among the main cast, she takes this the furthest out of everybody. In addition to how she shares Justice's position as a rare case of never posing a lethal threat to the Helltaker, she combines the strong sin-averse morality of Judgement with the friendly and approachable NiceGirl temperament of Justice, meaning the majority of her actions and interactions are both friendly and morally sound. Even the fact she's a CovertPervert NightmareFetishist is heavily moderated, with the absolute worst she gets being the fact her half-research half-attraction towards the demon girls can result in her doing questionable things, such as acting as a StalkerWithACrush or letting the girls coerce her into doing perverted stuff. [[spoiler:As Loremaster, though, she drops the "good" part, being far more willing to torment and potentially kill Subject 67 for the sake of experimentation]].

* AlmightyJanitor: Despite being the former High Prosecutor that banished Beelzebub to the Abyss and a close friend of the Queen of Hell, she joins the human Helltaker's harem simply because he asked. [[spoiler:Played even straighter when she becomes the "Apple Pie Demon" after Loremaster conquerors Hell]].

* HappinessInSlavery: [[spoiler:In contrast to Lucifer, she seemingly doesn't care at all about being MadeASlave by Azazel/Loremaster. It helps that Loremaster praises her and treats her more like a prize employee, and less like a subjugated servant the way she does Lucy]].

* {{Meido}}: She's dressed like this during [[spoiler:the events of ''Examtaker'', and interestingly, unlike Lucifer, who resents her situation behind the Loremaster's back, Justice genuinely doesn't seem to mind her position of Apple Pie maker]].

* SupremeChef: At least in ''Examtaker'', where her apple pies are so good that [[spoiler:they're used to control Subject 67, who utterly loves them to the detriment of his mental freedom. Sure, he has an unnatural love of them, but it's implied that it does have to be ''good'' apple pie]].

* TheCorrupter: Judgement refers to Lucifer as a ''[[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1379037838478557190 snake]]'', the Biblical implications going all the way back to the serpent that tempted Eve into tasting the ForbiddenFruit in the Garden of Eden. The way Lucifer [[https://twitter.com/vanripperart/status/1386698592937709570 uses a motherly manner to lure Azazel]] into [[FallenAngel falling]] further is especially telling, showing she has few scruples about poaching angels from Heaven with honeyed words in order to recruit them after they fall. [[spoiler:The "Examtaker" timeline is where she succeeds in making Azazel fall... but it [[GoneHorriblyRight works too well]], as Azazel becomes Loremaster and takes the crown of Hell from Lucy. But that doesn't mean that Lucy isn't trying to get her crown back and become the Queen once again.]]
* CreateYourOwnVillain: [[spoiler:It's her fault that Azazel truly descends into a FallenAngel and becomes Loremaster. Lucy managed to CorruptTheCutie as intended. But Lucy couldn't have forseen that [[BewareTheNiceOnes this nice girl Azazel would become Loremaster and overthrow her]], taking her crown and forcing her to serve as a maid]].

The two's relationship is even LikeAnOldMarriedCouple, with Lucifer sometimes bickering and teasing him. [[spoiler:This ends up being played darkly when Loremaster seems to see domestic work as all she's good for... and now she doesn't even have the wife part]].
* MadeASlave: [[spoiler:After Loremaster, aka Azazel, conquered hell, Lucifer has been forced to be her maid... though Lucy still tries to get Loremaster assassinated bi-weekly]].
* {{Meido}}: Referenced by Justice in a conversation with her, where she comments Lucifer wouldn't do half-bad if she tried maid roleplaying. [[spoiler:Ends up becoming one after Azazel/Loremaster took over Hell, forced to be Loremaster's right-hand girl. Lucy is ''not'' happy about this, given that she openly grimaces when having to be subservient, and that [[TheStarscream she's openly plotting to get her crown back]]]].

* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:She may have been subdued by Loremaster and forced to be her maid, but as Loremaster notes Lucy still tries to assassinate her roughly twice a week, and in private she tries to convince Subject 67 to usurp her himself, since Loremaster knows all of Lucy's tricks while 67 is enough of an unknown variable that he might have a shot]].

* TimeAbyss: WordOfGod has it that demons' horns whiten with age, but very, very slowly. That Lucifer and [[spoiler:Beelzebub]] have white horns shows how exceedingly old they are in comparison to the other demons.
* {{Tsundere}}: One of the more antagonistic demons when first encountered, but by the end of the game she seems to be genuinely fond of the Helltaker, becoming distraught when Judgement threatens him in the final boss fight, and helping him bake pancakes in the epilogue, not that she'd ever admit to it. [[spoiler:The "Examtaker" bonus chapter shows she still carries a torch for the Helltaker as she reminisces on her time with him while adjusting Subject 67's tie]].

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: If ''Examtaker'' is any indication, then [[spoiler:that push Lucifer gave Azazel to go undercover as a demon ends up biting her in the ass ''hard'' Not only did Loremaster conquer Hell, but she forced Lucifer to be a maid as well]].

* TheDeadCanDance: Two of them are dancing with big grins once you successfully convince Judgement to join you [[spoiler:and Beelzebub in the secret ending]].

* ShipperOnDeck: From their positively giddy reactions when the Helltaker convinces Judgement to join his harem [[spoiler:and if he joins Beelzebub in the Abyss]] they seem to wholeheartedly approve.

* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: She's convinced her end goal is the eventual cure of all sin. What separates angels and demons, in her view, is that angels have good intentions behind their actions. Nevermind how her current intentions are a far-cry of her initial motive behind exploring Hell.

* SheWhoFightsMonsters: Loremaster has become so obsessed with studying sin and demons that, upon learning every single thing there was to know about sin and demons, she decided to create new sins and new demons in order to study them. Subject 667 is such an example; she created a human-demon hybrid for the sake of sinning against creation itself.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Given the kind of place Hell is, it's heavily implied through both the chapter and concept art descriptions that she had to fight practically every demon and force them to submit in order to become the true ruler of Hell. It wasn't as easy as she claims since she [[AnArmAndALeg lost both of her real arms]] in her efforts and required [[ArtificialLimbs new ones]], but she succeeded in gaining the title, along with making Lucifer and Justice her servants.

** With his heavy, muscled build, sunglasses and his womanizing tendencies, it's easy to see some [[WesternAnimation/JohnnyBravo Johnny Bravo]] influence on the Helltaker's design. His attire and ultimate goal can also bring to mind [[VideoGame/LeisureSuitLarry Larry Laffer]].

* SunglassesAtNight: The protagonist and Justice, the Awesome Demon, both wear sunglasses despite hell being dark and enclosed. {{Lampshaded}} in the epilogue where Justice says she wears them because she's blind, but the other demons have a betting pool about why the Helltaker wears his. She bet ten dollars he has [[EyeBeams laser vision]].

* EvenEvilHasStandards: She'll walk all over the Helltaker like any of the other girls, and even stabs him [[DisproportionateRetribution for accidentally splashing her with batter while mixing it vigorously]] in the artbook's pancake recipe comic. But she still thinks that it's the least she can do to help out the Helltaker in the kitchen.

* GenderReveal: Seconds before taking on AFormYouAreComfortableWith, Beelzebub calls herself the "Mistress of Flies," letting slip that she's, well, a ''she''. Said character had cleverly never been referred to by gendered pronouns before this point.

* {{Asmodeus}}: Her name is derived from his, and fitting the name she's a HornyDevil.

* HornyDevils: As her title aptly notes, she's in a permanent state of horniness and is outright obsessed with sex, to the point of wanting to form her own harem, ethical methods be damned. Ironically, though, anything involving genuine love and romance is something she personally finds to be incredibly kinky.

A sharply-dressed guy with an with a talent for making gourmet desserts, who ventures into [[FireAndBrimstoneHell Hell]] in order to create a harem for himself.

* AggressiveSubmissive: Despite him taking the initiative to seek out a harem of demon girls, half the choices to most of girls are very blatant masochistic comments. She seems more open to the idea of things such as "dates" instead of "breaking people's knees with a sledgehammer" after reading human romantic comedies, but is still notably prone to underhanded methods such as drugs, and causes problems frequently enough to be a regular inmate on the "punishment sofa".

* MeaningfulName: "Modeus" is derived from "{{Asmodeus}}", a demon that theologian Peter Binsfield associated with the sin of Lust.

* {{Yandere}}: The combination of her being a demon utterly obsessed with sex, living in hell where any sense of morality (such as consent and happiness) doesn't exist, and the only humans she normally interacts with being corrupt sinners that only care about getting ''out'' of Hell, means the only form of "love" she knows is kidnapping and forcing men into being her {{Sex Slave}}s, with her having decided by the time the Helltaker came that breaking their legs with a hammer was the best way to keep any more "lovers" from running away from her "affection". It's not until she's exposed to human media that she comes to think that love might potentially work in tamer forms in addition to those that she's used to, though she's still prone to drugging and possibly kidnapping people.

* HiveMind: Cerberus is one soul inhabiting three separate vessels. Apparently what one body experiences is shared among the others (i.e. if one eats a pancake the others also experience the same happiness). If all three are experiencing the same thing, the feedback loop can get extremely dangerous.

* AffectionateNickname: Zdrada calls her "Malinka".

* IronicName: Malina means raspberry in several Slavic languages, while the diminution Malinka, which her sister calls her, can either mean "Little raspberry" or, in Russian, "''Sweet'' as a little berry", which is ironic for someone dubbed the ''Sour'' Demon.

* BilingualBonus: "Zdrada" is Polish for "betrayal", an unpleasant name appropriate for the entitled "Bitch Demon".

* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Possibly an example. Malina is nerdish and introverted, rather than "smart", and Zdrada punkish and extroverted, rather than "beautiful", but Zdrada teases her sister mercilessly over her interests, and wants her to get out more.

* TooKinkyToTorture: It's implied in the epilogue that she likes to be "punished", and says that she's been a "very bad girl". When the Helltaker says that she'd like it, she backs off and tells him to screw himself, although her expression isn't exactly saying "no". The art book even says the original concept for Zdrada had been "a mean masochist". The post-game comics Vanripper has since posted to twitter even have sadist-mode Pandemonica tell her that if she keeps being a good girl she might do something to her. The fact she always wears a cross despite how it [[HolyBurnsEvil constantly burns her skin]] adds to the masochistic implications.

Spending so much time around sinful demons and joining in their antics is leading Azazel on the path to becoming a FallenAngel because she just can't resist the temptation to learn more about them. Though she's in heavy denial about falling, the evidence piles up enough that she planned to return to Heaven to be treated for her condition. But Lucifer tempts her with the idea of being "in disguise" as a demon to learn facts about Hell that no angel would ever know. Azazel's so smitten with the idea that her fall is guaranteed. [[spoiler:So guaranteed in fact, that in the timeline where the Helltaker goes to be with Beelzebub, Azazel becomes so corrupted by sin that she becomes Loremaster, the new overlord of Hell.]]
* FlatEarthAtheist: Azazel is in heavy denial about becoming a FallenAngel, saying that the concept of "falling" is a myth spread by the Church to ScareEmStraight. Even when Zdrada tells her that falling is real, Azazel would rather believe Zdrada works for the Church. Her denial grows further when she starts growing horns, with her taking Justice's mentioning of Judgement and Lucifer falling as a sign that Heaven and Hell are working together to maintain the "lie" about the fallen angel "fairy tale" being real. All the while, the obvious fact that she's falling from grace continues to be a point of major denial for Azazel. [[spoiler:Even losing her halo after becoming Loremaster doesn't convince her that she's no longer an angel and turned into a full-fledged demon, deluding herself into believing it just fell off and she misplaced it rather than it vanishing into nothing once her fall was complete.]]

* TokenGoodTeammate: Fitting for the sole angel among the main cast, she takes this the furthest out of everybody. In addition to how she shares Justice's position as a rare case of never posing a lethal threat to the Helltaker, she combines the strong sin-averse morality of Judgement with the friendly and approachable NiceGirl temperament of Justice, meaning the majority of her actions and interactions are both friendly and morally sound. Even the fact she's a CovertPervert NightmareFetishist is heavily moderated, with the absolute worst she gets being the fact her half-research half-attraction towards the demon girls can result in her doing questionable things, such as acting as a StalkerWithACrush or letting the girls coerce her into doing perverted stuff. [[spoiler:As Loremaster, though, she drops the "good" part, being far more willing to torment and potentially kill Subject 67 for the sake of experimentation.]]

* AlmightyJanitor: Despite being the former High Prosecutor that banished Beelzebub to the Abyss and a close friend of the Queen of Hell, she joins the human Helltaker's harem simply because he asked. [[spoiler:Played even straighter when she becomes the "Apple Pie Demon" after Loremaster conquerors Hell.]]
