* KnifeNut: Ignis's main weapon type are [[DualWielding pairs]] of knives that he can switch to ReverseGrip during combos, as well as hurl at enemies.

* KnifeNut: When playable, one of Prompto's weapons is a combat knife called the Audax Blade which he can use for CQC, but it is more of an EmergencyWeapon since he specializes in ranged combat.

He's big, tall and brawny, and most outfits flaunt his impressive physique. He has high strength and health, wields the biggest weapons and is the most experienced warrior and tactician of the group. He's an avid and rugged outdoorsman who never turns down a challenge or runs from a fight. He's no mere meathead, however, as he encapsulates many nobler masculine attributes as well. He is fearless in the face of adversity, unwaveringly diligent in his duties and stoic in hardship and strife.

* {{Bishonen}}: He's quite pretty, though he ''used'' to be much more so before being redesigned.

* TookALevelInBadass: Zig-zagged. He went from being [[FormerlyFat overweight]] and timid to the confident, friendly, [[{{Bishonen}} skinny]] kid he is now all on his own after Luna gave him a little kick-start, but later on in the game it becomes clear that neither losing weight nor affecting a happy-go-lucky personality actually did much (if anything at all) to help Prompto's deep-seated insecurity and feelings of inadequacy. The game ''does'' address this directly, but only in a single, optional conversation that can only be had if the player chooses to spend the night at a specific motel, this of course this is explored in further detail in Episode Prompto.

* CharacterCustomization: The customization options for your character's appearance are quite broad, allowing you to make them a PintSizedPowerhouse, a StatuesqueStunner, {{Acrofatic}}, give them a Beard, [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair Blue Hair]], TechnicolorEyes, nearly any normal human skin tone you like…or take their appearance in [[TheGenericGuy a different direction entirely]]. There are all manner of possibilities! * ButtMonkey: He's always the target of most jokes in the game. Gameplay-wise, his lack of experience in combat shows, with him almost stumbling in every move. Noctis will even forget his name sometimes, calling him "Iggy" by accident.

* AmbiguouslyGay: [[ShipTease Occasional teasing with Aranea aside]], he's the only one of the four party members to not show any romantic interest in women, and Prompto's remarks about Ardyn not being Ignis's type suggests that he doesn't think IncompatibleOrientation is the issue here. On the other hand, he doesn't show much romantic interest in men either, indicating that he may simply be asexual. But it's his relationship with Noctis in particular that is of interest.
** Cooking is a major focus of Ignis' character, and the main reason he cooks is to please Noctis. His tours have him asking Noctis to help him cook breakfast with him; on the first tour he admits he did it just to be able to spend time with him, and in the second he says he enjoys cooking because he likes the reactions of those he cooks for, and that he'll never forget Noctis' smile the first time Ignis cooked for him. The ''Ultimania'' further states that Ignis got interested in cooking in the first place because he heard Noctis liked a dessert served in Tenebrae, and Ignis spent years afterwards trying to recreate it and get the recipe right.
** ''Episode Ignis'' complicates matters further by confirming that Ignis is so intensely devoted to Noctis that he will go to any length to see his charge safe and happy, including sacrificing his own life to save him. * AmericanKirbyIsHardcore: In ''Episode Duscae'', there was a surprisingly large gap between the way his character was portrayed Ray Chase compared to Tatsuhisa Suzuki. In English, Noctis seemed more moody, dark, and sarcastic, whereas in Japanese, he was a lot more playful. The gap was narrowed on both sides; official announcements stated that the English voice work in the demo was a rush-job and he was redirected to sound lighter in the full game, and ''Brotherhood''[[note]]which is as of now Japanese-only[[/note]] showed Noctis to be a very troubled and withdrawn young man despite his bouts of childishness. He retains some traits of a deeper voice in battle.

* SharpDressedMan: An Adonis in an expensive suit. Noctis was first seen wearing for a deleted scene from ''Versus XIII'', and two of his available outfits consist of suits. One is the Royal Raiment, which is available as either a pre-order bonus or purchasable DLC[[note]]It has one of the most useful abilities for exploration when you equip the "(No Jacket)" version: Noctis gets the ability to sprint infinitely without using stamina. With the Jacket on, however, it increases his magic power moderately.[[/note]] The other is the Kingly Raiment, which can also be obtained as a pre-order bonus or [[spoiler:unlocked during the last chapter of the main story]].
* ShellShockedVeteran: As stated by WordOfGod, his appearance after the timeskip is meant to call the image of one. He also has some residual PTSD issues from the attack that crippled him in childhood.

* TeleportSpam: He can instantly teleport to the location of any weapon he has thrown. Additionally, he has short-range rapid teleport abilities in close-quarters combat, serving as a dodge mechanic exclusive to him.
* TemptingFate: One of the last things his father hears him say is "Drautos, he's in your hands now." Titus Drautos is none other than General Glauca, the main villain of ''Kingsglaive'' and the one who kills Regis.
* TheHeroDies: [[spoiler:Is forced to sacrifice himself to stop Ardyn in the main ending. Averted in Episode Ignis' alternate ending and in ''Dawn to the Future'', where he survives.]]
* TheSlacker: Noctis is so laid back and easy going he can come off as lazy sometimes. If he weren’t a Prince, he might just be fishing, playing video games all day and sleeping.
* StraightMan: The developers stated that he written to serve as one to Prompto's antics.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Noctis frequently throws one of his weapons in combos, and they always land point end first.
* TimePassageBeard: Noctis comes out of the Crystal with long unruly hair and newfound facial hair to show the ten years that passed. He cleans up most of it but leaves the beard alone to become more of a traditional BadassBeard.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Especially enjoys comfort foods and dishes reminiscent of homecooked meals. One of them is also a cake made by his fiancee.
* TragicBromance: His friendship with Gladio, Ignis and Prompto is extremely close. During [[spoiler: their last campfire together]], it's clear how much they all meant to each other. They know that Noct is about to [[spoiler: die and are mourning it, but they are grateful that they had so many memories together that they could cherish.]] In the alternate ending [[spoiler:it's averted, as events are changed thanks to Ignis.]]
* TrashOfTheTitans: As shown in Brotherhood, he never bothered to tidy up his apartment and lived in take-out food until Ignis cleaned up after him and give him decent food.
* {{Tsundere}}: A type 2. Noctis is an easygoing, kind, humble, young man who is loyal to his friends, accepting and non-judgmental to social misfits, caring and protective towards his people, willing to take the blame and punishment in place of others so that they are safe, and has a strong sense of justice and integrity. While he is a very kind, sweet, generous, and gentle guy, he has his grumpy moments and is prone to mood swings, responding in a snappish tone when more polite responses could be used. This can be seen towards his father during their final farewell scene the moment Drautos calls out to Noctis at the stairs. Noctis is also snappy to Prompto when his friend inquires of Noctis’s messages to Luna, and towards Ignis in the ''Brotherhood'' Ignis episode when the young advisor was giving Noctis a report on the Kingdom and his weakening father, as well as many other moments.
** Seems to be a bit of the Type 1 kind towards Luna. Whenever he's asked about his impending marriage, he tries to shrug it off, but Umbra shows up with the notebook he uses to chat with Luna, he glances around to make sure his friends aren't watching too closely, then eagerly snatches it up.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: Ravus is quite mean and condescending towards Noctis, helping to destroy Insomnia, take over Lucis, murder his father, deem him unworthy of his father’s glaive after having stolen it and despite Noctis being it’s true owner, and attempted to steal the Ring of the Lucii which is Noct’s birthright. Much of it out of a petty grudge he has against the Caelum family of which Noct is innocent of. [[EasilyForgiven Noct has no ill will towards him and even thanks him for all he had done, even though most of his actions we have seen were meant to hurt him.]]
* UnskilledButStrong: His fighting style pretty much boils down to "wave the weapon in the direction of the enemy", especially compared to the other three when you control them.
* UsedToBeMoreSocial: According to the “Final Fantasy XV Prologue: Parting Ways”, Noctis was once known to be a lively child until the attack from the Marilith cause him to become more withdrawn. This is due to the implication that he was close to many of the servants who died in. This incident forced him to realize that the world was not a safe place. [[NeverBeHurtAgain Him becoming more reclusive is almost certainly out of fear of losing people close to him for his sake.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: Noctis and Gladio may have their differences and do fight every now and then, [[ChildhoodFriends but they always remain friends throughout it all no matter what]] and have each others back in battle.
* VocalEvolution: As mentioned above, in ''Episode Duscae'', Noctis is a rather prominent GutturalGrowler to the point that players would often confuse him with Gladio. In the final game, his voice is much lighter and youthful, although some of that gruffness comes back after the timeskip.
* WaistcoatOfStyle: Wears one as part of the Royal Raiment (No Jacket) outfit.
* WalkingArmory: A rare magical example, his weapons being able to appear on a whim.
* WarriorPrince: In his case a very strong requirement. Once Regis kicks the bucket it will be Noctis's responsibility to fight against Niflheim and that includes on the battlefield.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Noctis grew up idolizing his father as a role model and saw him as his personal hero, being the most influential person in his life. [[SoProudOfYou Regis’s letter to Luna expressed his thoughts on how proud he was of his son despite his wayward behavior.]]
* WhatsUpKingDude: Thanks to many outside the Crown City not knowing who the prince is/what he looks like, commoners have incredibly easy access to Noctis and are ridiculously casual with him (not that he minds; in fact, he prefers it that way). Dino blackmailing him while later talking to him like he’s a best bud, Vyv joking about giving him over to Niflheim, Sania giving him out assignments to do as if he’s a student of hers, and Prompto slapping him on the buttocks whenever he wants to among others. It’s very easy to hear someone snarking at him and his relationship to many people in Lucis is less King/Citizen and more Employee/Employer with him willing to help people out no matter what they offer him.

* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Noct feels he has to look and act serious publicly because of his duty.
* WouldHitAGirl: He doesn't hesitate fighting Aranea, one of his parries consists of grabbing her and smashing her face on the pavement.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: At the start of the game, Noct can't return home to Insomnia after his father is killed. At first.
* YouKilledMyFather: His father Regis was killed during Insomnia's destruction at the hands of Niflheim and it serves as one of Noctis's motivations to avenge Regis's death.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: Noctis had no idea his days were numbered until [[spoiler:the very end of his life, while Regis knew when he discovered he was the chosen one and Luna knew as well due to her status as an oracle.]] Justified however as they wanted him to live as normal and happy a life as possible before he has to fulfill his destiny.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Just like the previous player-created avatars, in FFXI and FFXIV, the Glaive doesn't appear in VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy2015, nor are they ever mentioned.

** Noctis has been made to be quite the departure from [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII Lightning Farron]]. Lightning, was very [[ExperiencedProtagonist seasoned]], [[ConsummateProfessional professional]], and [[IceQueen cold]] at almost all times in her game while Noctis is [[ComingOfAgeStory developing]], [[BrilliantButLazy juvenile]], and quite [[NiceGuy kindhearted]] throughout his story until the final stretch. Lightning, representing LightIsGood in her entire aesthetic both in and out of battle, was a soldier whose parents died prior to ''XIII'', leading to her being PromotedToParent; Noctis, who represents DarkIsNotEvil, is nearly as experienced in combat as her despite being royalty and ending up as a SpoiledSweet, with his father dying during ''XV''. Lastly, while both of their stories featured heavily BecauseDestinySaysSo themes, with them as the resident MessianicArchetype of their respective settings, Lighting was able to [[ScrewDestiny defy and change her fate for the better]], while Noctis ultimately [[spoiler: [[YouCantFightFate had no choice but to submit to his purpose in order to save the world.]]]]

* QuitYourWhining: His catch phrase is "stop bitching, start killing".

* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly man to to Prompto's sensitive guy. Gladio is rough, aggressive, physically strong, very outdoorsy, [[RealMenDontCry has enormous amounts of mental and emotional fortitude being able to cope with and adapt to difficult and stressful situations no matter the adversity]], he loves general physical activity and is very athletic, he's also a very large, muscular man towering over nearly everyone in the game. In-game, Gladio's dialogue can be abrasive at times, mocking Prompto if he hears him complaining by calling him a wuss.

* SpinAttack: The Tempest technique which is great for attacking clustered groups of enemies.

* SuperiorSuccessor: Cor points out that Gladio's father, Clarus Amicitia, as well as Cor himself, never completed the Trials of Gilgamesh. As of the end of ''Episode Gladiolus'', however, Gladio himself completed them. Doubly so if you beat the Final Trial you gain after beating it, since Gladio ends up defeating the legendary Cor the Immortal in a one on one duel.
* SwordAndFist: When playable, a few of his animations are just ignoring his sword entirely in favor of a good old left hand punch.

* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Gladio can hurl his greatsword at enemies for a ranged attack, when playing him this is his only long ranged attack.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: As reflected of his outdoorsman nature, loves bare bones game roasted with nothing but an open fire and seasoned with wild gathered herbs and spices. Also enjoys preservable goodies, especially Uncle Randall's Root Beer and Cup Noodles.

* ActionSurvivor: Before the events of the game, Prompto had never been in a fight at all, only receiving a crash course in self defense training from the Crownsguard a few days prior to Noctis's bachelor party.

Near the end of the game, [[spoiler:he learns of his true purpose -- he must give his life to call forth divine Providence if he is to destroy the [[AntiChrist Accursed]] and end the Scourge. And so, the game ends with [[HeroicSacrifice his ritual sacrifice on his throne]], after which [[DiedHappilyEverAfter he and his dead fiancee's spirits are shown appearing as if at their wedding]]. On top of that the fact that he's grown a beard and messy longer hair at the time of his sacrifice means he even LooksLikeJesus.]] He's sometimes referred to by titles like "King of Kings" or "the Son" to make sure no one overlooks the connection.
