* WakeUpCallBoss: While this is telegraphed in advance, he's the boss who reminds you that you're in [[NintendoHard an Atlus game]]. He's Level 17, while your party are probably under 10. If you don't grind a bit first, crack some skills, and exploit his [[ElementalRockPaperScissors weakness to fire]], you're not going to change your destiny.

** When you defeat him, Belial congratulates you and comments that [[HumansAreCthulhu humans are more qualified for the Throne of Bel than demons are]].

* IncreasinglyLethalEnemy: In his second form, he casts Megidoladyne, an extremely powerful [[NonElemental Almighty]] attack that gets substantially stronger each time he casts it, until it reaches [[OneHitKill 4-digit damage per target in a game where player characters and their demons can each only have 999 HP]].

* PreFinalBoss: Belberith in the original ''Devil Survivor'' is fought immediately before Babel in all routes except for Yuzu's. Subverted in ''Overclocked'' where Amane's and Naoya's routes have an eight day.

* NoFullNameGiven: One of the few human characters who does not have two names. It's not made clear whether Shoji is her given name or surname.

* PreFinalBoss: Belbertith in the original ''Devil Survivor'' is fought immediately before Babel in all routes except for Yuzu's. Subverted in ''Overclocked'' where Amane's and Naoya's routes have an eight day.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[spoiler:The Shomonkai initially come across as a benevolent organization, especially since the member you interact with the most is [[TokenGoodTeammate Amane]]. In reality, the Shomonkai are the ones most responsible for causing the lockdown to begin with. It's telling that ''both'' the Law and Chaos representatives--Naoya and Amane--turn against them]].
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:He cuts a deal with Belberith to summon him to the human world in exchange for his aid in fighting God]].
* TheDragon: He's [[spoiler:the main human enforcer of Belberith's will in the human world]].
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: [[spoiler:On Yuzu's Day 8, with all of his objectives accomplished, he peacefully surrenders to the government and disbands the Shomonkai.]]
* NoNameGiven: He is only ever referred to as the Founder. Although [[spoiler:given that he's Amane's father, his surname is "Kuzuryu"]].

* RageAgainstTheHeavens: His goal is to [[spoiler:free humanity from God's influence, and he will do anything to see that happen]].
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:The Shomonkai's god, also known as "His Majesty," is in fact Belberith]].
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Not the Founder in particular, but the Shomonkai quite clearly invoke the aesthetic of the Messians from the early Shin Megami Tensei games, being a group of cloak-wearing worshippers who fervently worship their god and provide safety to ordinary people. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope Except]] it turns out that the Shomonkai ''don't'' worship God, but instead [[BigBad Belberith]]]].
* VisionaryVillain: [[spoiler:His sole objective is to use demonic power to defeat God. Turning humanity against Him works too.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In the end, [[spoiler:he ''is'' fighting to save humanity from God's Ordeal and Judgment. Unfortunately, what he unleashed was [[FromBadToWorse worse]]]].

* BrotherSisterIncest: It's never brought up in-game, but if he really is who we're told he is [[labelnote:note]] [[spoiler:A reincarnation of the Biblical Cain]][[/labelnote]] then this certainly applies. [[labelnote:note]]One of the biggest criticisms/challenges to Christianity is that if Adam and Eve really were the first humans, then their children would have had to inevitably inbreed in order to produce more children. This is largely HandWaved by most Christians, who state that inbreeding was not a sin until after God laid down the Mosaic law in Exodus and Leviticus [[/labelnote]]

The hero's childhood friend, and the girl of the ThreeAmigos. ''Really'' not too happy about being caught in the lockdown, and desperately wants to escape. Atsuro calls her 'Yoohoo'; she ''hates'' that nickname, but she can't seem to escape ''that'' either. Outside of a level of internet-savvy expected from teenagers, she is not very good with computers, [[TheWatson allowing Atsuro to explain lots of things for 'her' benefit]].

* AdaptationDeviation: How he awakens Pazuzu in the manga is very different than how he does in the game. In the game, he awakens it out of frustration when it looks like he's about to lose a demon hunting bet he made with the heroes. In the manga, he awakens it after [[spoiler:finding out the Shibuya Daimons were slaughtered by Keisuke.]]

* BoobsOfSteel: She's a Self Defense Force captain and she can beat out Yuzu for largest bust. She is also notable as being the only female party member who focuses on strength as a means of dealing damage instead of magic.

* DemonicPossession: Coupled with [[spoiler:'Angelic'' Possession, to boot.]]

* HurtingHero: He's just as scared of dying in the lockdown as Yuzu, as he admits several times; he just hides it better, often using humor or gentle teasing as a crutch.

* PeekABangs: His angry and surprised/OhCrap sprites have this.

* FromNobodyToNightmare: While anyone with a COMP can potentially become this trope provided they survive making a demon contract, the MC, in particular, stands out due to him facing off against several demon overlords bent on winning a battle royale to [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership become the ultimate ruler of all demons]] and which [[spoiler: he himself can win, doing so to become the next Demon King or Messiah.]] He even fights and defeats [[spoiler:Lucifer]] as a BonusBoss. In ''[[UpdatedRerelease Overclocked]]'', one of the [[PlayableEpilogue 8th Days]] ([[spoiler:Demon King Route]]) has you fight [[spoiler:Metatron]] as the FinalBoss, with the ending making it clear that the next enemy is [[spoiler:[[{{God}} the Big Man Himself!]]]]

* FragileSpeedster: Of the main characters, he has the highest Agi growth and best turn speed... and the lowest Vit growth. However, this trait makes him useful if you're taking on a certain [[BonusBoss boss]] using a [[GameBreaker certain strategy]].

* WhipItGood: [[spoiler:His attack Anchor/Godly Whip, which hits all the characters on the field.]]

* BadassBaritone: Sports a rather deep voice in Overclocked, befitting his position as a gang leader and a very powerful MightyGlacier in battle.

* BadassInCharge: Can potentially become the king of demons, with all of the benefits that entail, and have the power to back it up as well.
