* BigScrewedUpFamily: While it's implied that the Elternteil Deer Pantheon was essentially a large royal family with biological/adoptive children in its heyday, it took heavy losses during the wars with Grogar I, with many of Irminsul and Arvan's children either dying at Grogar's hooves, corrupted by his dark magic, or turned into his slaves/playthings. Grogar ultimately [[KarmaHoudini fleeing to the Shadow Realm]] left Irminsul and Arvan so traumatized that they tried having more children to repopulate their broken family, and tried teaching their children to oppose all things "dark" and "evil" so the tragedies they suffered wouldn't happen again. It gets deconstructed as years of untreated PTSD and other issues influenced Irminsul and Arvan to become emotionally toxic, arrogant, and self-righteous, and this is what ultimately caused their family to splinter into two sub-pantheons when their emotional abuse of Temnobog and certain revelations about his "birth" caused many of their children to leave out of guilt and disgust towards their parents' hypocrisy. Even those who stayed behind began to realize this once they saw the consequences of their family's behavior for themselves, which either led to them leaving (Kúzelník) or treating their parents with disdain (Cernunnos). Relations are incredibly strained, as after Irminsul had a disturbing psychic vision [[spoiler:about the Shadowed Ones devouring his children repeatedly]] and tried pressuring both the Bogolenya and Hoyklan Deer Pantheons into reuniting with the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, many refused because they didn't want to stay with an arrogant, toxic, and hypocritical person.

** In another incident, the Elternteil Deer Pantheon put [[HumbleHero Blue Suede Heartstrings]], the Alicorn god of Music and Humility, on trial for "stealing" away a few mortal Alvslog Deer subjects, when he actually convinced them to [[TookALevelInKindness abandon their pride, racism, self-righteousness, and reactionary beliefs]] while keeping their love for nature. They also horribly mistreated Blue for being a non-Deer "interloper", and when he tried reaching out to the grieving High Queen Arvan with genuine kindness, they were so offended that they wanted to punish Blue with a horrible fate then and there. Belyolen intervened by pointing out to Irminsul that harming Blue would anger a staggering amount of people connected to him - from Prince Stoltur Skjöldur, Blue's best friend, all the way up to Golden Scepter himself, who will fly into a protective rage if something were to happen to the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon. This served as the final straw for Kúzelník, the Deer god of Sorcery, as the failed trial revealed just how toxic and hypocritical his family is, and the argument that ensued between him and Irminsul motivated him to run away from home.
* GoodIsNotNice: Deconstructed. As a whole, they're very benevolent, kind, and wise to their Alvslog Deer subjects... but ''only'' to their subjects. To everyone else, they come off as arrogant, racist, reactionary, and self-righteous divines who look down on non-Deer for not being "pure" and devoted to nature. While their behavior has understandable reasons, as much of the pantheon was decimated by [[EvilSorcerer Grogar I]], it still doesn't excuse their horrible actions and treatment of everyone not of their kind, as they had opportunities to recover and move on. The toxicity of the pantheon's behaviors have gradually caused many children of the pantheon's leaders to realize how wrong they were to act that way, which inevitably leads to them leaving home.

* {{Hypocrite}}: As pointed out by [[GodOfGood Belyolen]] during the "First/Second Splintering", they claim to be benevolent and wise, yet they abuse people like Temnobog for being born "evil" or falling short of their standards, despite not doing anything to truly warrant such treatment.

They also look down on non-Deer races for not being "pure" and devoted to nature like they are... while also remaining blind to their own moral failures as deities and leaders. Realizing this became the catalyst for many of Irminsul and Arvan's children leaving the pantheon, and even if they don't, they start treating their parents with cold disdain because of their hypocritical actions in regards to Temnobog's "birth".

** A major part of the reason behind the Elternteil schism was because of their abusive treatment of Temnobog for being born an "evil" god, with the last straw being their consideration of [[OffingTheOffspring killing him altogether]] since they couldn't stand his tainted presence. This disgusted and upset his brother, Belyolen, so much that he announced his decision to leave home and shamed everyone for acting like arrogant, abusive hypocrites, stating they became no different than the evils they opposed by abusing someone who didn't warrant such treatment. This caused several of Belyolen's other brothers and sisters to [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone regret their actions]] and join him in the mass exodus to form the Bogolenya pantheon. It's also noted that one of Amareros's children, the Alicorn goddess of Self-Love, Amour-De-Soi, had a role in helping Belyolen get the courage needed to confront his hypocritical family out of similar feelings of disgust towards Temnobog's abuse. According to Canteros, Amour-De-Soi's oldest brother, watching the haughty leaders of the Elternteil Deer Pantheon get verbally humiliated by their own favored son was "very satisfying".

* RightlySelfRighteous: Deconstructed. Irminsul's influence and their mortal worshipers' praise has inflated their collective ego, causing the divine Deer to believe that they are superior ''because'' they are wise and benevolent beings who protect Deerkind from evil and corruption. However, when Queen Arvan unexpectedly gave birth to Temnobog, almost everyone began emotionally abusing him for being born "evil", seeing him as a mistake that would taint the moral purity of their pantheon. When Belyolen overheard them considering [[OffingTheOffspring getting rid of Temnobog altogether]], he was so upset that he [[CallingTheOldManOut called out everyone on their arrogance and abusive hypocrisy]], stating that they've become no different than the evils they opposed by abusing someone who didn't even warrant such mistreatment, while also [[WhatTheHellHero shaming himself]] for not protecting Temnobog enough and letting his own family shape his views on what is Good and evil. This caused several of his brothers and sisters to [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone regret their actions]] and side with Belyolen. It's mentioned, and confirmed, that the Alicorn Primeval of Self-Love, Amour-De-Soi, helped Belyolen make his decision to leave by encouraging him to do the right thing, as she was similarly disgusted with the Elternteil deities' abuse and complacent arrogance.

* RightlySelfRighteous: Deconstructed. Irminsul's influence and A combination of a long, successful rule, being praised as benevolent by their mortal worshipers' praise has inflated their collective ego, causing followers, witnessing the divine Deer to believe that destruction of nature by non-Deer races, and the horrific wars against Grogar turned Irminsul and Arvan into haughty, puristic, and reactionary people who looked down on non-Deer races for not respecting nature, and staunchly opposed anything they deemed dark and evil. While they are superior ''because'' they are wise and benevolent beings who protect and wise, only the Alvslog Deer Herds see them as such, while everyone else hates them for being so disdainful. Worse, they influenced their children to act this way, believing it is the only way for their family and mortal Deerkind from evil to remain pure and corruption. However, when Queen Arvan unexpectedly gave birth good, and were willing to Temnobog, almost everyone began emotionally abusing "purify" their then-unborn son to turn him into a completely benevolent god. Their emotional abuse of Temnobog for being born "evil", seeing him as a mistake that would taint "evil" led to the moral purity of their pantheon. When Belyolen overheard them considering [[OffingTheOffspring getting rid of Temnobog altogether]], he was so upset that he "First/Second Splintering" when Belyolen, encouraged by Amour-De-Soi, [[CallingTheOldManOut called out everyone on their arrogance and abusive hypocrisy]], stating that they've become no different than the evils they opposed by abusing someone who didn't even warrant such mistreatment, while also [[WhatTheHellHero shaming himself]] for not protecting Temnobog enough and while letting his own family shape his views on what is Good and evil. * RoyallyScrewedUp: The
Elternteil deities' Deer Pantheon is a royal family of ancient Deer gods and goddesses, led by High King Irminsul and High Queen Arvan. While they were genuinely benevolent as a whole once, a tragic combination of complacency brought on by a long, successful rule, the horrors of Grogar's actions, and untreated issues on Irminsul and Arvan's part gradually influenced their behavior to become extremely toxic, which in turn influenced the children they had after the wars with Grogar ended. Irminsul's attempt to purify their then-unborn son to make him a god of all that is good and pure created Belyolen and Temnobog instead, and the emotional abuse Temnobog endured splintered the pantheon into three as many of Irminsul and complacent arrogance.Arvan's children left in different directions out of guilt and disgust towards their parents, thanks to Belyolen. Even those who stayed behind eventually left - Kúzelník [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere fearfully ran away from home]] after a nasty argument caused him to assume that Irminsul wouldn't hesitate to purify his other children of their flaws if they fell below standards, while Cernunnos, his older brother, started becoming cold and distant from his parents after his hunts for Kúzelník led to him discovering why Temnobog was created.

* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: Partially what led to the Elternteil pantheon's fracturing. The pantheon was so full of benevolent divine Deer that they eventually developed haughty, patronizing attitudes with a great disdain for anything they consider "evil", with no one to keep their behavior in check. The dark Deer god of Evil, Temnobog, was emotionally abused for being born because of this, and it's what led to his hatred of overly Good societies since the absence of Evil causes them to become stagnant (the same thing could be said about overly Evil societies as well).

to:

* WarriorPrince: Many of Irminsul and Arvan's sons are competent fighters, presumably thanks to their parents teaching them how to fight. A prime example would be Cernunnos, the Deer god of Hunting and Masculinity, who is a powerful warrior and has inspired many Alvslog Deer stags to become heroic warriors and hunters themselves. Cernunnos' deceased older brother, Orion, was implied to be one as well.
* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: Partially A huge problem of theirs. In the First Age, their long and successful rule over mortal Deerkind caused them to become complacent and stagnant, which made Grogar's encroachment upon their forest realms and subsequent attacks all the more devastating. It also what partially led to the Elternteil pantheon's fracturing. The pantheon fracturing, as it was so full of benevolent divine Deer that they eventually developed haughty, patronizing attitudes with a great disdain for anything they consider "evil", with no one to keep their behavior in check. The dark Deer god of Evil, Temnobog, was emotionally abused for being born because of this, and it's what led to his hatred of overly Good societies since the absence of Evil causes them to become stagnant (the same thing could be said about overly Evil societies as well).

* ArchEnemy: The evil Ascendant god, Grogar I, was this for the entire pantheon, as he was responsible for destroying large portions of Equus' forests, and killing/enslaving/corrupting several of the pantheon's divine children and thousands of their mortal people as well. Unfortunately, [[KarmaHoudini Grogar I escaped his long-overdue punishment by fleeing to the Shadow Realm when Irminsul, Arvan, and Gaea finally had him cornered]]. It's eventually deconstructed in that Grogar I's escape led to much emotional trauma and bitterness, causing Irminsul and Arvan to do horrible things in their quest to oppose everything they deemed "dark" and "evil", such as emotionally abusing [[GodOfEvil Temnobog]] for being born. Many of their children were also taught the same things, but came to realize that their parents' teachings are deeply toxic and hypocritical, and they would leave the pantheon as a result of their newfound epiphanies.

* FantasticRacism: Many members of the pantheon are deeply xenophobic towards non-Deer and Deer hybrids. This is largely due to their horrific experiences with the Ascendant god, Grogar I, in the First Age, leading to great distrust towards anything "Evil" and "corrupt", as well as their successes in guiding and ruling over mortal Deerkind and their forest realms for centuries while the non-Deer races (in their eyes) were often self-destructive, selfish, and incompetent in handling nature. The fact that the Bogolenya Deer deities welcomed non-Deer divines into their pantheon and created "bastard" hybrids is a source of great contempt for the Elternteil Deer deities, leading to a very strained relationship between the two pantheons. Belyolen understandably fears that both the non-Deer and Deer-hybrid deities would be mistreated should his family ever decide to visit the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, and has warned his parents that as long as they continue to display their harmful attitudes towards Temnobog and anyone else they deem beneath them, they will not be welcome around him or his pantheon.

* HolierThanThou: Deconstructed. Many of its members believed themselves to be benevolent and pure due to a combination of the destruction of nature by non-Deer individuals/races, a long and successful reign as divine sovereigns of mortal Deerkind, and years of being praised by their mortal worshipers going to their heads. This led to them emotionally abusing Temnobog for being born an "evil" god despite not doing anything to deserve it. Eventually, the pantheon's puristic haughtiness became a main factor in the pantheon splintering into two sub-pantheons when, after overhearing his family consider [[OffingTheOffspring killing Temnobog]], Belyolen rebelled by [[CallingTheOldManOut called everyone out on their hypocrisy]] and leaving to form his own pantheon so he could get Temnobog away from them. Their actions also led to both mortal and divine non-Deer individuals to have a low opinion of the Elternteil Deer Pantheon in general, with King Strazha in particular referring to them as deluded extremists who use noble goals to justify selfish desires. It's rather telling that many people see it as a sign of redemption whenever someone decides to leave the pantheon.

Notably, even his own children were disgusted with him when they found out about it - Kúzelník was ''[[BrokenPedestal furious]]'' and called out his father for going back on his teachings, while Cernunnos gradually became cold and distant towards Irminsul after hunting down Kúzelník and (supposedly) learning the truth from his runaway brother.

This and other disagreements concerning mortal Deerkind's future led to the Elternteil Deer Pantheon's fracturing, with Belyolen's group forming the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, and the second group - led by Haust and her future husband, Kaldr- forming the Hoyklan Deer Pantheon, leaving the Elternteil Deer Pantheon a former shell of itself. The fact that the Bogolenya Deer deities welcomed non-Deer divines into their pantheon and created "bastard" hybrids strained their relationship with the Elternteil Deer Pantheon. Belyolen rightly fears that both the non-Deer and Deer-hybrid deities would be mistreated should his family ever decide to visit the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, and has warned his parents that as long as they continue to display their harmful attitudes towards Temnobog and anyone else they deem beneath them, they will not be welcome around him or his pantheon.

Added DiffLines:

* BigBrotherBully: Deconstructed. Before the First/Second Splintering, he was this to Temnobog. Because Irminsul and Arvan taught him to hate everything that is "dark" and "evil", Cernunnos saw Temnobog as an evil abomination that must be hunted down and killed, and participated in his family's emotional abuse of his dark brother. He was also among those of his siblings and relatives who advocated for Temnobog's death after Temnobog [[ThenLetMeBeEvil became genuinely evil out of sheer spite and resentment]]. Cernunnos' abusive hypocrisy was what caused Belyolen to rebel against his family and leave to form the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, and learning that his parents were ultimately responsible for Temnobog's birth [[BrokenPedestal left him feeling betrayed]]. It's implied that going on the hunt for Kúzelník after the latter ran away from home caused him to realize that he was wrong to mistreat Temnobog, as interacting with Prince Fanged Paw, a former BigBrotherBully himself, and learning why Temnobog was born caused Cernunnos to become cold and distant towards Irminsul. Some of his brothers and sisters have noted that he had become more regretful in private.
* BlowThatHorn: Of the "Horns of Summoning" variety. He carries a war-horn on him that, when blown into, magically inducing terror and dread into his enemies while stirring his allies/armies into a righteous frenzy.
* BrokenPedestal: He was [[ParentalFavoritism favored]] by Irminsul for being born virtuous and noble, and was molded by him to become a proper god and Prince of the forests. This led to Cernunnos developing the same haughty and puristic behaviors that affected his parents... until he learned that his brothers Belyolen (who he loved) and Temnobog (who he hated) were the divided halves of the god they were ''supposed'' to be, causing Cernunnos to feel betrayed by his parents for going back on their teachings. It's heavily implied that after hunting down the runaway Kúzelník, he learned from his brother that Irminsul created Belyolen and Temnobog out of a selfish desire to create a "perfect" heir and would not hesitate to "erase" his children's flaws if they fell below his standards. This might explain why, after coming back home empty-hooved, Cernunnos became rather cold and distant towards his parents, especially Irminsul.
* CoolBigSis: Gender-inverted and subverted. He loves his younger fraternal twin sister, Rhiannon, and trusts her enough that she serves as TheConfidant for him, bearing all of his fears and secrets, including what happened to him while he was away from home. Cernunnos also loves his younger brothers, [[TheArchmage Kúzelník]] and [[GodOfGood Belyolen]]. But he was also a BigBrotherBully to [[GodOfEvil Temnobog]], whom Cernunnos saw as a monster that deserved to be hunted and killed for being "evil", and participated in his family's emotional abuse of his dark brother, making it clear to Temnobog that due to being evil incarnate, he was no brother of his. The sheer hypocrisy of this distressed Belyolen, and overhearing Cernunnos and his other siblings advocate for Temnobog's death was what directly led to Belyolen rebelling against his family and leaving to form the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon. He would later come to regret his behavior after Kúzelník ran away and he hunted him down for years, exposing him to things that made him realize that his behavior was wrong.

* ThePowerOfTheSun: As a Deer god of the Sun, he can use solar magic, though he often restricts himself to his domain's [[LightEmUp light-based aspects]] due to [[LogicalWeakness living in forests]]. He can fire beams of pure sunlight from his antlers, create barriers of sunlight, and use magical flashbangs to stun and blind his opponents. He can also turn into a being of pure sunlight. And as long as the Sun is out, he can heal and temporarily empower himself by drawing energy from it. He is known for infusing sunlight into his arrows whenever he shoots, making him dangerous against creatures of darkness. Some theorize that he did find Kúzelník, but learned that his brother ran away from home because Irminsul warped their then-unborn brother in the womb trying to make him "perfect" (which Kúzelník equated to ''mutilation'') and implied that he would not hesitate to do it to his other children if they fell below his standards. So he had to take it.
** The next one crosses over with a XanatosGambit and GambitRoulette: Temnobog knows that he would lose to Narren in the contest, but would not suffer to release his hated father to Narren, leading to him tricking Narren into shape-shifting into a small creature so he could surprise and eat him too before he could change back, sealing away the only witness to his deed. According to the legend, however, Narren [[EatMe was ''counting'' on Temnobog eating him too]] so he could go inside [[BiggerOnTheInside Temnobog's bowels]] to rescue his grandfather.
* GuileHero: Goes with his portfolio. Knowing he is usually out-matched in raw power and combat experience, Narren fights his battles with wits, cunning and liberal application of trickery. Also proclaims and sing about heroes of the Alvslog Deer Herds as a patron of bards, which inevitably includes guile heroes like himself.
* ThePrankster: Used to pull pranks on his family and others and take nothing seriously, which annoyed everyone to no end. If the legend behind his famous confrontation with Temnobog is accurate, he was quite giddy at the prospect of being finally able to pull a prank on his EvilUncle.
* TheTrickster: Is known for this, and it shows in his confrontation with Temnobog by pulling a double-layered trick on him: realizing he's outmatched, he challenged Temnobog to a contest of shape-shifting, knowing as a TricksterGod he holds an advantage over even his EvilUncle. But Temnobog is crafty himself, who knows he would lose in a fair contest, and so tricked Narren in turn by challenging him to turn into a Breezie - then grabbing and swallowing him before he could change back. That, however, was revealed to be [[EatMe part of Narren's plan]], as it allows him to [[FantasticVoyagePlot traverse]] his EvilUncle's [[BiggerOnTheInside body]] and rescue his devoured-and-sealed grandfather himself.

Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

* AdaptationalBadass: In the comics, he was just the ruler of the Deers of Thicket, presumably skilled in druidic magic. In the Codexverse, he's an ''Ascendant Godling''.
* DeityOfHumanOrigin: Implied, as he's described in Zecora's profile as an "Ascendant Godling". It's noted in Irminsul's entry that becoming a deity and being included in the Elternteil Deer Pantheon is one of the highest honors an Alvslog Deer can receive, so when Aspen managed to Ascend, Irminsul was [[SoProudOfYou extremely proud]] of his old student.
* EnemyMine: While he generally has a very dim view against Ponykind, Zecora managed to talk him into opposing the Storm Empire's forces by revealing that the Storm King's motives aren't very eco-friendly.
* FantasticRacism: He had a great disdain for non-Deer, and his self-righteous attitude and refusal to accept outside help largely hindered the ponies' efforts to stop Well-To-Do. The comic adaptation of the Well-To-Do incident was written by radical supporters to tone this down in an attempt to make him look far better than his pony allies and the Equestrian Princesses, who weren't even there at the time.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: He has a white/light-brown pelt and golden antlers to indicate his divine nature, something that wasn't apparent in the comics.
* HolierThanThou: Much like High King Irminsul, unfortunately. It's deconstructed in that during the Well-To-Do incident, his arrogance and disdain for ponies made him largely, unhelpful, belligerent, as he kept refusing the ponies' offers to help him stop Well-To-Do, and the ponies' efforts were largely unhindered by his self-righteous and eco-extremist attitudes. His radical supporters tried to tone this down in an attempt to make him look far better than his pony allies and the Equestrian Princesses, who weren't even there at the time.
* ImmortalRuler: Implied; as an Ascendant Godling, he possesses the same immortality as other typical divines, allowing him to rule for so long.
* NatureLover: Like the Alvslog Deer, King Aspen is a devout follower and supporter of nature. However, he takes it to such extremes that Battryu, a KnightTemplar who would willingly and uncaringly commit genocide if Equus's ecosystem is changed, is put off by the royal stag's eco-extremist attitude.
* PapaWolf: One of his few redeeming traits is his deep love for his son, Prince Bramble. When Well-To-Do kidnapped Bramble and threatened to have an "[[MakeItLookLikeAnAccident accident]]" befall the young fawn, Aspen willingly sold himself into slavery just to ensure Bramble's safety. And once Well-To-Do was thoroughly exposed and [[VillainousBreakdown on his last legs]], Aspen had a Hydra devour him whole, which was noted to be seen as overkill by the others but perfectly acceptable since Aspen was well in his rights to enact vengeance for what Well-To-Do had done to him and his son.

[[folder:Narren, the Joyous Prince]]
!!!'''Classification:''' Ethereal/Elemental
!!!'''Porfolio:''' Music, Guile, Celebration
!!!'''Rank:''' ???

One of the youngest members of the Eltenteil Deer Pantheon, Narren is the Deer god of Music, Guile and Celebration who became renown among the Pantheon and their worshippers when the merry jester, whose youth and antics once made him rather disregarded, faced off against the Deer God of Evil, Darkness and Suffering Temnobog to save his grandfather High King Irminsul from , in a famous legend that remain widely recounted to this day, even if the details are not exactly accurate.
----
* TheBard: As a god of music and celebration, he is a patron of Alvslog Deer bards and is more or less one himself. He sometimes take the stage to sing about his own legendary confrontation with Temnobog with his own followers, on the festival celebrating that very famous legend.
* BatmanGambit: Narren pulled two in the same confrontation with his EvilUncle Temnobog.
** If Temnobog accepts his shape-shifting challenge in exchange for his grandfather, Narren would likely win due to being a TricksterGod more versed in shape-shifting then even his EvilUncle. Temnobog could decline and leave, taking Irminsul with him sealed inside his body, but as the author(s) of the legend notes, doing so would make him a laughing-stock among the gods for being afraid of 'a young fool''s challenge, and his deed would eventually be found out anyway.
** This is also part of the reason (along with [[{{Pride}} his swelled ego]]) why Irminsul refuses to accept [[GodEmperor Golden Scepter]]'s attempts to reach out to him and convince him to let go of the arrogance and xenophobia that doomed many mortal/divine rulers in the past. Because Golden Scepter is not a Deer, he has no right to tell him how to rule. This presumably led to the above aforementioned incident with Golden Scepter, as the Alicorn Emperor had lost his patience with Irminsul at that point, and overhearing the High King spout racist things towards his friends pushed him was the last straw.

* TheHighQueen: Subverted. Her rank in the Elternteil pantheon is indeed "High Queen", and she's known for being kind and gentle, yet in reality she's a well-meaning but very flawed individual. Her twin sons, Belyolen and Temnobog, remember her as an emotionally abusive mother who mistreated Temnobog for being born the embodiment of his brother's flaws and evils, while showering Belyolen with love and praise for being born pure and good. After Belyolen overheard her talking to her husband, Irminsul, about the option [[OffingTheOffspring killing Temnobog]], he was so upset that he later called out the entire pantheon for their arrogance and abusive hypocrisy, stating that they became no different than the evils they oppose by mistreating someone who's actually blameless. Belyolen also made clear to his parents that they are not welcome near the Bogolenya pantheon if they continue displaying harmful attitudes towards those who don't fit their standards.

One of the youngest members of the Eltenteil Deer Pantheon, Narren the Joyous Prince is a god of music, Guile and Celebration who became renown among the Pantheon and their worshippers when the merry jester, whose youth and antics once made him rather disregarded, faced off against the Deer God of Evil, Darkness and Suffering Temnobog to save his grandfather High King Irminsul from , in a famous legend that remain widely recounted to this day, even if the details are not exactly accurate.

* BreakTheHaughty: The "First and Second Splintering" was this for them. Most of them were part of a preceding Deer pantheon until the First Age, when their previous leaders died in a great crisis that forced adopted newcomers, Irminsul and Arvan, to take lead and rally both their surviving allies and adoptive kin underneath a new name, the Elternteil Deer Pantheon. But their long and successful rule over Deerkind, combined with their horrific experiences with the Ascended mortal Grogar I and witnessing the bad sides of the Second Age's technological/scientific growth, left them quite haughty, racist, self-righteous, and borderline reactionary, with a great disdain towards anything and anyone deemed "Evil". When Temnobog was born, almost everyone emotionally abused him out of disgust towards his presence by treating him as the evil, unwanted "cast-off" of his older twin brother, Belyolen, and expected Belyolen to see Temnobog as an abomination that must be destroyed for mortal Deerkind's benefit. However, when Belyolen overheard his family consider killing Temnobog altogether, he [[CallingTheOldManOut called them out on their abusive hypocrisy]], stating that they became no better than the actual evils they opposed by torturing a child for merely existing. This, along with other disagreements concerning the future of mortal Deerkind, resulted in the Elternteil Deer Pantheon fracturing, with Belyolen's group forming the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, and the second group - led by Haust and her future husband, Kaldr- forming the Hoyklan Deer Pantheon, leaving the Elternteil Deer Pantheon a former shell of what it once was until it slowly started regaining its numbers in later years. It's revealed that one of Amareros' daughters, Amour-De-Soi, invoked this trope; as the Alicorn goddess of Self-Love/Esteem, she was incredibly angered and disgusted by the Elternteil Deer deities' arrogance and abusive treatment of Temnobog, and encouraged an upset Belyolen to rebel against his parents by [[ArmorPiercingQuestion asking him what he would do if he saw someone else being abused like his brother was]]. According to Amour-De-Soi's oldest brother, Canteros, seeing High King Irminsul and High Queen Arvan get verbally humiliated by their own radiant son was "very satisfying".

This caused several of his brothers and sisters to [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone regret their actions]], so they sided with Belyolen.

* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: Likely what led to the Elternteil pantheon's fracturing.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: While they're seen as wise and benevolent by their mortal followers, their extreme dedication to Good and Purity corrupted them to the point where they became arrogant and self-righteous. This caused them to abuse Temnobog for being born the embodiment of Evil despite not doing anything to warrant it at the time, and ultimately splintered their pantheon into two sub-groups, one of which was formed by Belyolen, after he became disgusted with his family's hypocrisy and wanted to protect his brother from them. King Strazha of the Erobreseg Deer realms also has a low opinion of them due to his hatred of extremists in general, since in his eyes they're no different than selfish, lazy, and insane people who use noble motives as an excuse to impose their will on others, and use Evil methods to fulfill their deluded fantasies.
