* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Shigeoka represents Red. Kotaki is a punk who represents Pink. Smart Nakama represents Yellow. Kiriyama, a self-styled {{Samurai}}, represents Orange. Fujii, the ProudBeauty aesthetician, who represents Blue. Kamiyama represents Green. Hamada represents Purple. Hikari: TheChick represents the Rainbow.

* NamesTheSame: All of the boys share the first name of Kakeru.

* WeaponOfChoice: Chopsticks.

** UnintentionalPeriodPiece: Does this to the manga as Japan no longer has a National Railway, as a result none of the students know what it is.

* IllBoy: Seems to have a bit more health problems than the others. Hamada always has a bandage on his face, has a weak stomach, can't handle any sort of spicy food, and has a feather allergy. This only stands out because none of the other students ever show signs of a similar issue.

* {{Megane}}: The reason he doesn't want to use his secret move is because it would [[spoiler:kill his identity as a glasses character.]]

* LimitedWardrobe: Every character wears the same outfit each episode, something unusual for a live action show but makes a little more sense since the show is inspired by a manga.

* BadassGay: He’s capable of throwing a Railway Punch just like the rest of the guys, so this automatically makes him this.

* FiveManBand / ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Well, Seven Man Band. This dynamic is often subverted as much as it's played straight, however. If a critical role in an episode is absent, someone else will usually fill it in. For example, Hamada is TheLeader in the second episode.
** Shigeoka: TheLeader and TheHero. He represents Red.
** Kotaki: TheLancer and a punk. He represents Pink.
** Nakama: TheSmartGuy and an InsufferableGenius. He represents Yellow.
** Kiriyama: TheFool and a self-styled {{Samurai}}. He represents Orange.
** Fujii: The ProudBeauty aesthetician. He represents Blue.
** Kamiyama: TheHeart and ProneToTears, with a thing for [[LikesOlderWomen older women.]] He represents Green.
** Hamada: TheBigGuy and a [[TheStoic stoic]] Boxer. He represents Purple.
** Hikari: TheChick and the SixthRanger. She represents the Rainbow.

* SpoiledSweet: Is implied to come from a wealthy background and encourages people that love is what determines true beauty, Fujii is also quick to stop Baron Chajou from whipping Shigeoka and Kamiyama after they interrupted his song.

** Kamiyama: TheHeart and a FragileFlower with a thing for [[LikesOlderWomen older women.]] He represents Green.

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: After being that Hamada and Kamiyama [[spoiler: were killed, though really they just lost a game they didn't know they were playing]] Kiriyama vows to avenge them and single handedly defeats several men and a demon, saving the town, and then running off with his fiance to meet her mother beyond the checkpoint [[spoiler: before learning that he was actually in an amusement park called Edo Land]]

* MakeASplash: Due to his crying, his final attack is water based instead of fire.

* OnlySaneMan: He is the most likely to point out how weird something was or question the logic of another character.

* DistractedByTheSexy: In the first episode, he lets himself be captured by the male swimming team because he finds them beautiful.

* NotDistractedByTheSexy: When the transfer students originally meant to go to a school where the girl's uniform was bikinis failed to show up, Kotaki and Fujii were sent instead. The two are shown in a picture surrounded by girls in bikinis and neither appear too impressed, granted Fujii is gay so this is no surprise.

* LikesOlderWomen
* TheCharmer: Surprisingly, he is well versed in talking to women he is interested in and can win their hearts easily.
* TheHeart: The most emotional and sympathetic of the transfer students. Rather than try to solve his problems with wit, strength, or seduction, Kamiyama will try to talk to people on an emotional level.

* MissingMom: [[spoiler:Averted. While Takizawa thought Yukari was this, Hikari reveals that Yukari and Hikari met a lot.]]

* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold

* TheChosenOne: For a prophecy that has nothing to do with Tanebi Academy. Kiriyama is revealed to be a legendary hero long prophesied by a family in Edo Japan [[spoiler: of course, that all turns out to be part of a game.]]

* DistractedBySexy: In the first episode, he lets himself be captured by the male swimming team because he finds them beautiful.

* {{Foil:}} Kotaki and Hamada, leading to a rivalry in the first episode. Both are the best fighters of the group but while Hamada is a straight-laced boxer, Kotaki is a rebellious delinquent.

* AttractiveGenderbend: Considered to be the only transfer student who doesn't look terrible in drag.

* MommasBabyPapasMaybe: Is unsure if his father is his biological dad since he is bald, Fuji could just be trying to assure himself that he will not go bald in the future though.

* AttractiveGenderbent: Very much adverted, Hamada is possibly the most awkward looking as a girl.

* Can'tCatchUp: Is easily the weakest transfer student in a fight and was unable to use the power of the blazng transfer student during a volleyball game like Tokaki and even Shigeoka.
