* In ''WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants'', Creator/ErnestBorgnine and Tim Conway are paired together as the comically inept nautical-themed superheroes Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, referencing the duo's previous roles as the comically inept naval officers Quinton [=McHale=] and Chuck Parker in the 1960s sitcom ''Series/McHalesNavy''. When time travel is used and their younger selves are encountered in one episode, said younger selves are voiced by Creator/AdamWest and Burt Ward, in an obvious nod to ''Series/Batman1966''.

* An episode of ''WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers'' featured Hank becoming a Robin-like teen sidekick to a superhero named Captain Sunshine. Who voiced Sunshine? Creator/KevinConroy, known for playing Batman. Though interestingly enough, the hero is more of a Superman parody despite the sidekick relation.

* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTalesOfTheJedi'': The teenage Qui-Gon Jinn (famously played as an adult by Creator/LiamNeeson in ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'') is voiced by Micheál Richardson, Neeson's real-life son.

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheBookOfLife'', Skeleton Jorge was played by famous Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo and in the film who states that instead of bullfighting he wanted to sing at Operas.

* In the French language version of ''WesternAnimation/LuckyLuke1983'', Jacques Thébault voiced Luke. Thébault previously dubbed James West (Creator/RobertConrad) in ''Series/TheWildWildWest'', another famous heroic [[TheGunslinger gunslinger]] in an episodic [[TheWestern Western]] series.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'' episode "Jack and the Labyrinth", Jack encounters a thief who's very clearly modeled off [[Franchise/LupinIII Daisuke Jigen]]. In the Japanese dub, the thief is voiced by Creator/KiyoshiKobayashi, Jigen's longtime ''seiyū''.

* Creator/DavidMacaulay's ''WesternAnimation/{{Pyramid}}'' features, as did his other animated documentaries, several voices from several actors who were famous for their roles in Roman drama ''Series/IClaudius''. When it came time to cover pyramids, the animated segments are a WholePlotReference to ''Claudius'', compressed and with the addition of discussions on architecture. Of note: Derek Jacobi playing a royal son who'd rather be a scholar than a ruler (unlike Claudius, Hordedef gets his wish). Then there is the third queen who plays a long, patient, murderous game to place her son on the throne ahead of his rivals--voiced by Livia herself, Creator/SianPhillips.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Amphibia}}'''s creators have been open about the fact that King Andrias is inspired by King Vendrick from ''VideoGame/DarkSoulsII''. When a close relation of Andrias', [[spoiler:his father Aldrich]], appears in a flashback, they got William Houston, the voice actor who played Vendrick, to voice him.

*** We've got C. Thomas Howell as Professor Zoom and Danny Huston as Sam Lane. Considering [[ComicBook/{{Flashpoint}} the comic it's based on]], this basically means [[Series/CriminalMinds George Foyet]] and [[Film/XMenOriginsWolverine William Stryker]] have decided to replace Aaron Hotchner and Wolverine as the targets of their respective torments with the Flash and Superman.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheAvengersEarthsMightiestHeroes'' has Captain America's sidekick ComicBook/{{Bucky|Barnes}} share a voice actor with ''the'' KidSidekick, ComicBook/{{Robin}}, from ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans2003''. Of course, TT Robin is a leader and no one's sidekick anymore.

** Rapper and ''Series/{{Community}}'' star [[Music/ChildishGambino Donald Glover]] ignited an internet firestorm after he campaigned to play [[RaceLift Peter Parker]] in ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan'', and the ensuing racial controversy partially led to the creation of ComicBook/MilesMorales, the [[AffirmativeActionLegacy second]] ''ComicBook/UltimateSpiderMan''. When it came time to cast someone as Miles for the cartoon, guess who Marvel went with?

** Peter Parker and ComicBook/MaryJaneWatson are voiced by Creator/DrakeBell and Creator/TaraStrong, who both played the role of Timmy Turner in ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'': Drake played Timmy in the [[Film/AFairlyOddMovieGrowUpTimmyTurner live]]-[[Film/AFairlyOddChristmas action]] [[Film/AFairlyOddSummer movies]], while Tara voiced Timmy in the cartoon.

* In ''WesternAnimation/{{MODOK|2021}}'', Comicbook/WonderMan is voiced by Creator/NathanFillion, who was previously slated to portray the character's alter ego of Simon Williams on a poster in ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2'' [[DeletedRole before the scene was cut]].

* ''WesternAnimation/HarleyQuinn'':

** Destined reincarnated lovers Comicbook/{{Hawkman}} and Hawkgirl are voiced by Creator/TylerJamesWilliams and Creator/QuintaBrunson, respectively, who play love interests in ''Series/AbbottElementary''.
** InUniverse example in ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'': Beast Boy’s mother was the star of a short-lived cult sitcom when she was a teenager. Years later, Beast Boy becomes the star of a ''Franchise/StarTrek'' clone, and the actor who played his mom’s boyfriend is cast as TheCaptain to highlight their characters’ quasi-father-son relationship.

* Just before the resurgence of superhero movies stated above, Creator/StanLee has already been making cameo appearances in assorted Creator/MarvelComics animated series, specifically the ''Franchise/SpiderMan'' ones. The first season of ''WesternAnimation/TheSpectacularSpiderMan'', already has this covered. Of special note is his cameo in the '90s Fox Kid's Spider-Man -- [[spoiler:as himself, when Spider-Man travels to an alternate universe, implied to be ours, where Spider-Man is a comic book character.]] He's also the janitor in ''WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderMan2012'' and the mayor in ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperHeroSquadShow.''

** We now have Creator/JimCummings, the voice of [[Franchise/WinnieThePooh Tigger]] and many other cat-like characters, as Caspin, a member of the ''Tiger'' clan.

** And Corey Feldman, who provided Donatello's voice in [[Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles two of the films]], is now [[spoiler: Slash.]]

* Disney's ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouseworks'' series features several shorts featuring WesternAnimation/TheThreeLittlePigs. These updated cartoons feature Bill Farmer as Practical Pig and Creator/JimCummings as the Big Bad Wolf. This makes the second time they've played a {{Foil}} to one another, the first being respectively as WesternAnimation/{{Goofy}} and Pete, in tribute to the fact that these sets of characters were originally voiced by Pinto Colvig and Billy Bletcher back in the 1930s.

* All but one of the Eldwurms in ''WesternAnimation/DOTADragonsBlood'' are voiced by horror icons: Sylrak is voiced by Creator/TonyTodd (the Film/{{Candyman}} and [[Franchise/FinalDestination William Bludworth]]), Aethrak is voiced by Creator/RobertEnglund ([[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]]), Lirrak is voiced by Cassandra Peterson (Creator/ElviraMistressOfTheDark), Vahrak is voiced by Creator/JohnKassir ([[Series/TalesFromTheCrypt The Crypt Keeper]]), Byssrak is voiced by Creator/DougBradley ([[Franchise/{{Hellraiser}} Pinhead]]), and Indrak and Orrak are voiced by Bradley's co-stars in the first ''Film/{{Hellraiser}}'', Creator/AndrewRobinson, and Ashley Laurence (Larry and Kristy Cotton).

* When the celebrity voice actors were replaced in the transition from the ''WesternAnimation/{{Madagascar}}'' films to ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'', celebrity voice actor Creator/SachaBaronCohen (the voice of King Julien) was replaced by Danny Jacobs. Jacobs previously played an impersonation of Cohen's ''Film/{{Borat}}'' character in ''EpicMovie''.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Amphibia}}'': The season 3 episode "Fight at the Museum" introduces Creator/AnikaNoniRose as Dr. Jan, meaning she's once again playing [[WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog a woman who gets caught up in supernatural events involving talking frogs]].

* Casting director Creator/AndreaRomano has made an award-winning career out of casting gags and a huge ProductionPosse. She's probably the fourth most important person in the Franchise/{{DCAU}} after Creator/BruceTimm, Creator/PaulDini, and Alan Burnett.

*** Arguably the best casting gag of the DCAU was in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' when Creator/AdamWest was cast to play a washed up, TypeCast actor by the name of Simon Trent, who resents his prior role as a live-action TV hero.

*** In the tie in comic ''Batman Adventures'', an in-universe example occurred as Bruce Wayne had some creative control in producing a new Grey Ghost movie and chose Simon Trent to play the mayor.

*** Thomas Wayne is voiced by Richard Moll; who also voiced Harvey Dent and was one of Bruce's few friends in Gotham. Another gag is seen by the roles of Martha Wayne and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (both of which are some of the most important women in Bruce's life; judging from The Cat and the Claw) played by Adrienne Barbeau.

*** Another involving Creator/MichaelRosenbaum: the episode "The Great Brain Robbery" saw The Flash (played by Rosenbaum) accidentally switch brains with Lex Luthor, who was portrayed by Rosenabum in ''Series/{{Smallville}}''.

*** Robin's father is voiced by ''Creator/KevinConroy'' and mobster Tony Zucco is voiced by ''Creator/MarkHamill''. Fans of ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' will recognize voices of Batman and The Joker once again locked in combat.

* In ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', the garnet is the traditional birthstone of people born in January, and Garnet's voice actress, Estelle, has a birthday of January 18th.

** David Hyde Pierce playing the role of Cecil, Sideshow Bob (Creator/KelseyGrammer)'s brother on (alluding to the show ''Series/{{Frasier}}'', in which he played Niles, the brother of another Kelsey Grammer character, Frasier). In a later episode, Bob and Cecil's dad was voiced by John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles' dad on ''Frasier''.
** At one point, Bart even covers Cecil's eyes with his hands and declares "Guess who?" Cecil's response is "Maris?", who's [[TheUnseen Niles' wife]] on Frasier.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheAvengersEarthsMightiestHeroes'' has Captain America's sidekick ComicBook/{{Bucky|Barnes}} share a voice actor with ''the'' KidSidekick, ComicBook/{{Robin}}, from ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans2003''. Of course, TT Robin is a leader and no-one's sidekick anymore.
* It seems doing this with the ComicBook/SquadronSupreme is popular as ''WesternAnimation/AvengersAssemble'' gets into the act as they've casted:

** ''Avengers Assemble'' also has Creator/TaraStrong, known as the modern voice of ComicBook/HarleyQuinn, voice Typhoid Mary, ''another'' psychotic and flamboyant female villain with a painted up face.

* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTalesOfTheJedi'': The teenage Qui-Gon Jinn (famously played as an adult by Creator/LiamNeeson in ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'') is voiced by Micheál Richardson, Neeson's real life son.

** When the original voice of Arnold, [[Creator/LaneToran Toran Caudell]], started going through puberty and sounded too old, they created the character Wolfgang, an older bully who picks on Arnold and his friends, for him to voice so he could stay on the show. Phillip Van Dyke took over the voice of Arnold for a few seasons before the same thing happened and Spencer Klein would replace Phillip. This all ended up being subtly referenced in the episode "New Bully on the Block", where Wolfgang, a new bully character named Ludwig (voiced by Phillip), and Arnold get in a war over who should own the vacant lot.

** In "The Last Adventure!", Creator/RikiLindhome voices May, who is a clone of Webby (voiced by Lindhome's Music/GarfunkelAndOates bandmate Creator/KateMicucci)

** In "The Last Adventure!", Music/GarfunkelAndOates member Creator/RikiLindhome voices May, who is a clone of her bandmate Creator/KateMicucci's character Webby.

** Creator/CaseyKasem, who was Shaggy's voice actor on the original ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooWhereAreYou'', has a recurring role as [[MythologyGag Shaggy's father]].

** ComicBook/{{Cyborg}}’s father is voiced by Creator/KharyPayton, who is arguably considered the definitive Cyborg voice thanks to his work on ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans2003'' and other DC productions. The crew seemed to go out of its way to point out the fact that Payton is ''not'' voicing Cyborg, who is instead voiced by Creator/ZenoRobinson. Additionally, Payton voices a random classmate of Cyborg's who yells "Booyah!" a lot, and Robotman, another part-man, part-machine superhero who is explicitly positioned as Cyborg's counterpart in a segment parodying the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' cartoon. Said parody also has the rest of the ComicBook/DoomPatrol voiced by the cast of ''Teen Titans Go!'', with Creator/TaraStrong as Negative Woman, Creator/HyndenWalch as Elasti-Girl, and Creator/ScottMenville as the Chief.

** After Ian Abercrombie's death in 2012, Creator/TimCurry [[TheOtherDarrin succeeded him]] in playing Chancellor Palpatine for the rest of the series. When Curry starred in the original West End production of ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow'', his castmate as Brad Majors was Christopher Malcolm, who played Rebel pilot Zev Senesca in ''Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack''.

* In the ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6TheSeries'' episode "Food Fight" the host of the underground cooking competition is played by [[Series/GoodEats Alton Brown]], and Cass's first opponent is a MeanBrit played by Creator/GordonRamsay.

** Black Panther's father T'Chaka is voiced by Creator/KeithDavid, who voiced T'Challa in the 90s ''WesternAnimation/FantasticFour'' cartoon.
