Silent Hunter: Small side note on this. I'm only 3 1/3 seasons through SG-1 and have only heard all 'seven chevrons' once.
Ununnilium: From what I've seen, they usually do the first three or four chevrons and then cut to the SG team standing in front of the iris as the others engage and discussing the mission.
Morgan Wick: Um... I'd be more likely to think that they used all seven less often without the "usually," since that comes across as "usually, they went through 7 chevrons". How about "at most" or a complete rephrase? Or am I misinterpreting Un's statement above?
Ununnilium: You're not, but note that my experience is far from complete.
William Wide Web: I could have sworn the term used is "encoded" not "engaged".
Sikon: They definitely cycled through all seven chevrons in the movie and in the first season episode "Solitudes". Anywhere else? (And yes, chevrons are "encoded", not "engaged", so this trope should be renamed.)
Fast Eddie: Wow. This Justifying Edit actually had the word "justified" in it, with bonus let's-hide-the-meaning-of-the-sentence-spoiler.
- (At that point, Atlantis was running out of power, so the annoyance was more than a bit justified).
Danel: Removed this, because it's just odd, out-of-place, etc.:
- An even worse example is the first few seasons of Power Rangers (until the writers discovered the concept of An Arc). Nearly every single episode goes:
- Mundane sidestory
- Stock external of Rita's fortress
- Rita and minions talk about their Monster of the Week
- “Give me putties! etc...” Stock footage of Rita making and sending down Putties
- “Oh no, putties! Take this!“
- “Morphing time! etc...” Stock footage of Rangers going into costume.
- Rangers beat putties. “Those Meddling Kids!”
- Stock footage of Rangers going out of costume.
- More mundane sidestory
- “Send down my monster!” Stock footage of dinky monster being sent down.
- Monster is being a nuisance, “Oh no, a monster!“
- “Morphing time! etc...” Stock footage of Rangers going into costume, again.
- “Take this! etc...” Rangers beat monster (often entirely through stock footage of weapons).
- “Make my monster grow!” Stock footage of Rita enlarging monster
- Giant monster beats Rangers, with copious stock footage whenever monster isn't shown.
- “Go go! etc...” Stock footage of Rangers hopping into giant robots.
- Giant monster beats Rangers' giant robots, with copious stock footage whenever monster isn't shown (again).
- “Go go! etc...” Stock footage of Rangers Combining Mecha.
- Rangers beat monster. “Those Meddling Kids!”
- Stock footage of Rangers going out of costume, again.
- More mundane sidestory, An Aesop.
- And Knowing Is Half the Battle
- Repeat next week, with exact same stock footage.
Prfnoff: More like Trapped by Mountain Lions, less like what this trope is about:
- Star Wars. Two words: Pod Race. Some may indeed find it pretty cool. It still seems to last forever. It was longer in the original cut, but even Lucas had to admit this was far too much of a movie-within-a-movie without enough relevance to the plot, and axed a portion of it. Well, at least it was cool enough to spawn a good racing game.
- Arguably, most of the rest of the movie too. Its greater relevance to the overall plot of the prequels is, "They find Anakin."
