I'd like to refute the following:
>>In some fan communities the phrase "engaging chevrons" has come to mean any recognizable time-filling ploy. As in: "The fight scene was just engaging chevrons: 'Fu for 'fu's sake." "They started engaging chevrons about how 'terrorists are really, really bad people', so I went to the fridge for a fresh beer."
I'm pretty sure no one has ever used this phrase. I've got an account on Gateworld forums, where people discuss nothing but Stargate all day, and I've never heard this expression used by anyone ever. It sounds like something the writer made up to justify the name of the trope. Additionally, I have a hard time imagining any circumstance where you'd hear someone complain about superfluous Kung Fu. Amirite?
