I've been trying to engage with tropers about the fate of this page for years, but nothing has been resolved yet. Reply to this thread if you actually read the discussion page.
This account is dead. I’ve said a lot of dumb things in the past and I wish to forget them. I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt anyone. Hide / Show RepliesI do. (Literally just opened a new account, but I've been here a while).
One major change that kind of needs to happen: The companies are incorrect. Give me a bit, and I'll get a list of changes.
-Bplats no longer is involved in Vocaloid, all their vocals are Yamaha
-Flower is by gynoid
-Galaco is now a Yamaha vocal.
Also, if we'd like to trim the page a bit....
-Rion, Nemu, Arsloid, and Sachiko could all be moved to Yamaha.
-Nana could be moved to AHS.
Edited by DefiantKitsuneWait, do we want to list by distributor, or developer? We aren't consistent.
Also, the five Chinese vocals really need to be split, and some of these tropes are based off songs, not anything official (although that has been brought up before).
Gakupo is actually an incorrect romanization from way back when- it should be Gackpo. Not sure I want to fix that, considering it's wrong EVERYWHERE....
Edited by DefiantKitsuneIs it acceptable to start trimming these down to universal traits or things seen in official material (i.e. ads, games) rather than including things that are song-specific? These aren't universal character traits, just fanon restricted to specific songs. Now that this stuff's being jettisoned into the fan works page, it seems like the time to start purging this info from the character page itself unless it's a particularly wide-spread fanon trait (and even then it should be marked as fanon).
Hide / Show RepliesWhile I agree with tropes relating to songs finding their way onto the fanworks page, I don't agree with applying wide-spread fanon tropes. The wiki disallows fanon from character pages (though misuse is still rampant).
This account is dead. I’ve said a lot of dumb things in the past and I wish to forget them. I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt anyone.I'd normally say "fair enough" re: widespread fanon, but... Given Crypton (+ Sega)'s tendency to ascend fanon, I think Vocaloid's relationship with fanon is a little different from most other series. Of course, I'm basing this on things like Project Diva and snippets of dialogue seen from concerts, and those only apply to the Crypton Vocaloids (and Gumi) and have disclaimers saying "this only applies to the game versions". I don't know if a character page should be considered for those iterations of the characters (on the page for Project Diva, I mean) or if they should be treated as quasi-canon. I'd lean to the latter.
Edited by olivemeisterI asked about how this page can be improved in this Ask The Tropers thread. The answers are quite mixed, so I'm thinking of getting rid of this page, and just having a list of the Vocaloids on the main page. If anybody disagrees with this, please reply.

The Artifact. Is currently Lazy Hazy.Should we should make a difference between the tropes that belong here, and the tropes that belong on Fan Works/Vocaloid? Also, please do refrain from adding too much Fanon stuff.
The Artifact. Is currently Lazy Hazy. The character page needs to be updated with the release of newer vocaloids like Chika and Cyber Diva.
Also, is it even necessary to list the fan-made vocaloids?
The Artifact. Is currently Lazy Hazy. Hide / Show RepliesYes I agree, but Cyber Diva was created by a Japanese company though.
I'm aware of that. Still doesn't change the fact that the page needs updating.
The Artifact. Is currently Lazy Hazy. There's a bar above the name of the page. The very first button says "Edit Page". Though I would recommend that you familiarise yourself with the wiki's editing markup beforehand.
The Artifact. Is currently Lazy Hazy.See also Text-Formatting Rules for that instance.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think IA is not really white haired. It seems to me she has platinum blonde hair (among with possible less-severe albinism because of her light blue eyes with violet colored parts).
Isn't the comment at the top of the page that Vocaloids have no official personality inappropriate? Some of them do have official personality info released by the company.
Hide / Show RepliesA handful of them do, but even then it's not exactly a character analysis. Simply pointing out that a certain characteristic is canon/official as necessary ought to be more efficient.
- Cute Shotaro Boy: Len in Fanon.
- Cute Shotaro Boy: Your Mileage May Vary (on the "cute" part, that is).
- Cute Shotaro Boy: The silhouette implies that he might be this.
- His voice provider was a 13 year old British boy, so he's pretty much confirmed to be one.
- His third demo song kinda proves it...
One, Cute Shotaro Boy has been renamed to Adorably Precocious Child. Two, this trope is highly misused and this example suggests that it does not apply; please check the definition at Adorably Precocious Child before re-adding.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. Hide / Show RepliesObviously the tropes were added before the decision to change them. If you have a replacement, please suggest one.
Would it be okay to list a separate folder for genderbends? Some of them have different Fanon traits than their counterparts (Meito not liking sake, Kaiko being a Yamato Nadeshiko, Mikuo being a Narcissist, etc. etc.). Maybe we should just list them? They seem to be the most popular. If we can't, I understand, but if we can maybe we should just list those three (and Ted on the UTAU page, 'cause he's even more distinct...why is he called a "genderbend", again?) since they're the only ones with major popularity (the rest are kind of just...there).
Edited by CJCroen1393To think about it again: Is it pointless to list the Fanmade Vocaloids (at least, not the "ascended" ones)? Just like how you would list UTAUs. *shrugs*
Edited by DAN004 MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWI feel that the order the Vocaloids should be in is the order they were when they were released, not the order by their names. And if we keep it the order of their names, I think that it should be done in First Name to Last Name the same way Haruhi Suzumiya 's pages were done in. Putting them in the order by their names and their companies seem a bit chaotic and makes Vocaloids harder to find.
hello there :- ) Hide / Show RepliesNo, they aren't ordered by their names. Check it out again.
But still, ordering them by company isn't bad, right?
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWAs DAN004 said. I didn't put them by their names, that is just making things more complicated as this wiki is going by Japanese order and not Western.
I arranged things by Company, following the Vocaloids chronological release. The notice at the top saying "semi", is because the second folder containing the rest of the Japanese Vocaloids, so it breaks it up a bit. And with the growth that is happening, I may have to get a bit fancy and add more folders.
Edited by BunaiI'm going to put some orderliness to this page, by placing the Character in release by company and date. The way the character page is, is quite messy. I know they are done in chronological order (even though English Vocaloids were first on both series) but there should be some sense to it. There are more and more Vocaloids showing up for 2012.
If anyone disagrees with my edit, feel free to shift if back to how it was.
People are complaining about character derailment in the Toyota commercial? All she does is drive in silence.
Hide / Show RepliesTo some degree, I concur with what you're getting at here. But it's startling that there are some things (e.g. showing up in a car advert) that, for a large number of fans, fall under the category of Things Miku Would Never Do — when Miku is, in theory, the perfect chameleon and capable of doing anything.
In addition to that, I've heard a lot of complaints about Miku's actual visual appearance in the commercial and in the artowrk on Toyota's website. In both cases, I've heard them described as looking like something a talented American computer artist or graphic designer who knew nothing about Miku would create if you handed him/her a DVD of the 39's Giving Day concert and asked for an updated version of the character.
Edited by JakesBrainI wondered why Sakine Meiko is missing despite being a semi official Vocaloid featured in Project Diva 2nd.
Why is this article list character names in Japanese order, rather that western order as is normal for a majority of works on This Wiki? Was there any consensus to do that? If so, a link please?
Just an FYI, I am removing any UTAU character who does not have a song with 10,000 views or more on Nicovideo. This is to prevent the page from eventually becoming a bloated mess of characters that nobody cares about. (You may argue that this is too hard for UTAU's relative unpopularity, but as of writing, there are 226 UTAU songs with 10,000 views or more.)
If you think this is unjust in any way, please reply to this topic and tell me why.
Hide / Show RepliesActually I think you ought to crack down on it more - far too many UTAU have that distinction. How about leaving only Teto, Ruko, and Ritsu? I don't prefer the VIPPERS necessarily, nor do I interminably want to exclude Tei, but my reasoning for those three is that those are to date the only three allowed on Piapro.
Should we get some official art for those vocaloids who have it, and maybe some fan stuff for the engloids who don't?
Edited by 76.202.198.50I almost feel that some of the tropes should be moved or hidden because their descriptions are [1] and they make the characters less entertaining and more like strippers.
Edited by sbluen Hide / Show RepliesWell, we may remove a trope from the page, but that doesn't mean that there are songs out there that actually PORTRAY the Vocaloids in sexual manners. It would be more like keeping the general tropers that come to this page innocent about it. If you feel that should be the case, then go ahead.

Companies updated on VOCALOID Wiki. It took a while but I think I got the companies and products sorted much better than prior years.
