The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Find a Trope:
openCharacter is disgusted - doesn't do the right thing as a result Print Comic
See the example in the 4-koma manga Seitokai Yakuindomo (read the left strip):
https://mangadex.org/chapter/32045/2
In the second strip, titled "I'm a guy", the boy character doesn't want to touch the codpiece out of disgust, even though he feels a sense of duty to confiscate it.
Is there any related trope?
openPerson tells someone not to be mad, even though they are completely justified
Is there a trope for when someone if furious about something (such as a "friend" hurting, humiliating, betraying etc, them), yet someone tells them not to get mad despite them being completely justified? I'm thinking maybe The Complainer Is Always Wrong, with the person saying they shouldn't be mad likely being an Extreme Doormat.
Edited by BootlebatopenHurricane-force leaf blower
Do we have a trope for a leaf blower, hair dryer, desk fan, or some other mundane item is able to produce enormously powerful winds that can cause a blow someone vast distances, allow someone to fly, or otherwise perform all manner of impossible actions?
Could potentially be a result of Tim Taylor Technology.
openFamily History Villain?
Do we have a trope for when a hero talks to another character about a supposedly also heroic ancestor, and it turns out that the "heroic" ancestor was really a monster and the family just covered it up/acted like they were a hero because they agreed with the ancestor? I see this mostly in fantasy.
openMisfortunate Happenings For Naughty Baddies
Because the bad guys are well, bad guys, bad things happen to them more often than the good guys. For example, in the Duck Tales reboot, Glomgold suffers a lot of misfortune compared to the "good guys" (being the main characters), because he's technically a bad guy. This applies to the other villains as well.
openAAT: Acronym and Title
Do we have something for titles that follow the pattern "Acronym: Full Title"? Like "DOA: Dead or Alive", "DmC: Devil may Cry" or "WAP: Wet Ass P*ssy" for a recent example…
openWhy do we even have that?
Characters have something incredibly random lying around that, when brought to their attention, usually elicits a "why do we even have that?"
openHurry Up And Wait
Is there a trope for a "hurry up and wait" situation? As in, Bob is told that he has to get someplace right away, so he rushes to get there, but when he shows up, whoever's waiting for him isn't ready yet, so he ends up sitting on his butt for God knows how long.
openChoice backpedaling
What was the name of that one trope that goes like this?
openBig tech CEO guy
Exactly what it sounds like. Often a No Celebrities Were Harmed version of people such as Mark Zuckerberg, and is often a Corrupt Corporate Executive as well.
Edited by jandn2014openSurprise Crossover
Bob the actor is playing Charlie, but his costume, mannerisms and general appearance seem to be an Actor Allusion to Al, a previous role he played. Then it turns that no, Al and Charlie are in fact the same character.
For example, in the first Command And Conquer Red Alert game there's a background extra whose job is simply to give Stalin messages, played by the same actor as Kane, the Big Bad of the first Command And Conquer game. Then at the end it's revealed that no, it is Kane himself pulling Stalin's strings for his own purposes.
openDifferent Generation, Same Age Range
Characters who have relatives of a different generation around as old as they are (or even younger), due to various family dynamics (remarriages, adoptions, etc.).
For example, Bob's parents had another child at the same age he has one, so his daughter Alice has an aunt as old as she is. Or Alice's cousin is old enough to be her uncle due to her aunt marrying early. Or Bob's uncle is old enough to be Bob's son due to a May–December Romance from Bob's grandfather.

Let's say, Alice and Bob are in the theatre watching a movie. Bob was moved to tears, and Alice says Bob was being too sensitive. When she turned around and noticed about 80% of the audiences are moved to tears as well...
- Alice: So I'm the weird one!?
So, does Alice's final response belong to any trope?
openNot shown coping
it's not quite Angst? What'sAngst as the characters still talk about what happened, but when a characters go through something traumatic, they aren't shown coping or dealing with their problems.
openCan't relate to trauma
A character feels bad that their loved one underwent some sort of traumatic experience that they can't ever fully understand. Not Survivor Guilt because this character wasn't at the event with them, their issue is a total lack of firsthand knowledge about what it's like to suffer that way.
openWarhogs or Mounted Boars
Is there a trope describing the use of giant wild boars in fantasy as transport and war mounts?
opencloning a dead person as replacement Film
Once upon a time I watched a film about parents who have lost a child and embarked on a quest to clone her; it felt a bit like the "crusading grieving parent" trope crossed with Ripped from the Headlines, the headlines in question being about Dolly the sheep or something like that that the screenwriter must've read at some point. (Edit: it seems to be After Amy/No Ordinary Child.)
There is a philosophical problem in it — like, whether are we justified in treating the clone as essentially the second attempt at the same person (or conversely the original as the failed first attempt) — but the movie pretty much ignores this issue.
My three questions are:
- does this specific case count as Doppelgänger Replacement Love Interest? I wanted to add that example to the trope but I wasn't sure if it counts.
- which trope is closest to a discussion of the philosophical problem I mentioned? Cloning Blues?
- do we actually have a trope along the lines of "crusading grieving parent"? We have a plenty of Determined Homesteader's Wife and Crusading Widower entries, but I'm not sure about children being the motivation for action. Closest other example I can think of is Lorenzo's Oil, but the titular character's parents might be simply written off as The Determinator.
openFake Crossover meets Spiritual Licensee.
A long time ago, the pages of The Avengers introduced the Squadron Supreme. The Squadron Supreme are all Captain Ersatzes of the Justice League. They immediately Let's You and Him Fought the opposing team. So it wasn't a crossover, per se, but was pretty close.
I'm also thinking of the issue of Not Brand Echh where 'Spidey-Man battled Gnatman And Rotten, The Ironed Man dueled with Magnut, Robot Biter and Knock Furious, agent of S.H.E.E.S.H. fought the Blunder Agents. Surely there's a trope for this sort of "Illegal Crossover".

A character talks, but isn’t shown opening their mouth to do so.
