Find a Trope:
openBetter option than LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces? Anime
The character would often go looking for love during off periods in her relationship. She would then compare the men to him and eventually find a minor flaw and break it off.
Written entry: Kurenai due to her on-off relationship with Asuma, who had a potential Arranged Marriage hanging over his head. Compounded by him also being The Cassanova, though he was always straight up with Kurenai and Kurenai only and prevented things from getting too serious because of it. But she always compared them or started thinking of Asuma. Later defied when she realized she needed to stop and focused instead on her career.
openFlashbacks during a battle Anime
Often, you have a character thinking about his/her friends or some other thing as they fight in a battle. An example would be, in episode 11 of Gurren Lagann, Simon thinking about his friends as well as Kamina before his finishing move: https://youtu.be/TiLzJ1iHnuk?t=79
Edited by ExultantCaponopenIs there a trope for Early Relevance? Anime
Where a character in an adaptation is brought into relevance earlier than they were in the original?
A specific example: Nico Robin joining the Straw Hats at Whiskey Peak rather than after Alabasta. (Fanfic obviously) It's not an Early Bird Cameo and I don't think its an Adaptation Early Appearance either, since that IS the point where she met them in canon. I wouldn't call it Ascended Extra either because she's a prominent crew member in the source material as well. She is just joining the crew sooner than she did in the original story.
openShoulder Lineart spiking up Anime
I feel like an idiot for not knowing, but is there a trope for that thing where an anime character screams or gets a fright, their shoulders start to have spikes in the lineart, I often find it accompanied with Colour Failure. Anybody know what I’m talking about? Thank you!
openMovie later declared canon? Anime
What trope would this be:
- A Dragonball Super Non-Serial Movie spin-off that was originally non-canon is later declared canon and an Alternate Timeline to the original, even though the storyline can't reasonably fit into canon, especially as Hit is a Punch-Clock Villain / Hitman with a Heart here.
It's not a Retcon is it?
openBlessed by the gods/spirit/fate Anime
Is there a trope for a character who's being blessed by the gods/spirit/fate because he keeps on finding things that were originally impossible or very difficult to find before. Just so he'll reach his destiny.
openAlternate BGM for a different dub Anime
Back in the day, especially when importing anime for markets outside Japan, the BGM would more often than not be changed. Yes, there's Alternative Foreign Theme Song, but, as far as I know, that trope focuses on the theme song. What I'm looking for relates to the actual music score within the show itself.
Example: Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie's BGM was changed for international markets, differing significantly from the JP score.
Edited by ExultantCaponopenDestruction trope/time travel? Anime
Trying to find a trope for Dragon Ball Super:
- At the end of the Future Trunks Arc, Future Zen'o destroys Future Trunks timeline; this is justified in order to stop Goku Black and Zamazu from causing the problems that happened in the original timeline.
Other than Close-Enough Timeline and Set Right What Once Went Wrong, do we have a trope for destroying timelines?
openHug Therapy Anime
Is there a trope for hug therapy? A character who hasn't gotten many hugs in their childhood is now getting them a lot more often.
openPreviously forgotten characters Anime
Is there a trope where the writer in fanfiction makes the forgotten characters memorable and actually enjoyable to read?
openLoss of skill Anime
Is there a trope, thanks to amnesia, where someone loss the ability to do a skill well? They could still do it but not very well.
openDreaming then forgetting about memories Anime
Is there a trope for a character who has trauma based amnesia, dreams about his past but always forgets it in the morning?
openProtection Jewelry Anime
Is there a trope for a warrior leaving his wife a ring which turns out to be secretly protection in case she ever gets in trouble?
openWhen you let your enemy finish their play Anime
When anime characters do battle, they always seem to let each other make plays. They give each other so much breathing room that they can afford to spend a couple minutes discussing the balance of power and maybe do a bit of banter. They don't interrupt someone who's setting up a play, without making a big deal of planning the interruption, nor do they do spontaneous team attacks. Why is that? Whether it's some kind of respect for the opponent, or they get some kind of power bonus for making the battle aesthetically pleasing, I wish they'd subvert this trope by sucker punching each other every now and again!
openGreedy Merchant Anime
Is there a trope for a greedy merchant that's still a good person?
openIron-clad Stomach Anime
Is there a trope for a character who can eat spoiled food no problem and still thinks it tastes good?
This is a character who only cares about his safety, like how Gaara didn't care for his siblings, not like in an It's All About Me way.
