openPotential edit war on Fairy Tail pages Anime
On quite a few pages related to the Fairy Tail franchise such as the Character pages and the Manga.Fairy Tail Zero page, Nic Master Trope (edit history) has changed the Sirius spellings (which is used in the most recent English translations; in this case, its the Kodansha USA manga releases) to Tenrou, which was used before the Kodansha USA translations. While I restored the Sirius naming on said pages (such as this one) per some of the hidden notes (such as "For the sake of consistent character name spelling, the Kodansha USA manga translations are used on this page. If Kodansha USA has not provided such translations, the Crunchyroll anime translations are to be used until then.") and the notes on the Administrivia.Troping Works Created In Other Languages (such as "The most recent official translation of the title and character names should be used for the wiki", etc.), NicMasterTrope changed it back to Tenrou while making other edits just moments ago (as shown in some of the history pages, which can be found here and here). If I'm not mistaken, I'm suspecting this might be an Edit War. I've also notified the troper in question of this ATT query via PM.
Given the above, I have a question: any thoughts on what to do here (such as bringing it up on the English Localization Cleanup thread, etc.)?
Edited by gjjonesresolved Literature/Victoria - A troper has been busily re-adding tropes cut during a cleanup Literature
Troper Axe 23 has been busy re-adding tropes to Literature/Victoria page that were removed in the cleanup thread without going through the cleanup thread first. What should be done about that?
I tried to message them, but they never replied.
Cleanup thread here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16063931900A23789400&page=8
Now, I know that normally it is the opposite rule here, if you see a trope on a page (say Knight in Shining Armor ) mentioning a work, you should go to the work page and add an example to it. That is normal crosswicking. The issue here is that there was a clean-up of the work page but wick cleaning of the other pages was never completed (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16063931900A23789400&page=7#comment-161 ) after sandbox swap.
You can recognize the cleaned up wicks on the other pages because they point to Literature/Victoria instead of towards Victoria: A Novel of 4th Generation War and they should be deleted and not crosswicked back to the main work page.
Edited by youngstormlordopenAsking for permission to re-add a franchise pothole to an example that had it removed. Film
The Saw example that I had written for Resurrected Murderer back when it was in the TLP had its franchise pothole recently removed, probably because of the fact it covers a single work rather than a whole series (the title was included at the beginning of the example with a colon, then it was removed and the example's alphabetical placement was changed to that of the individual work, Jigsaw). However, reading it a bit without the pothole, I believe it can be a bit hard to discern for anyone who's not familiar with the Saw series title.
Before the edit:
- Saw: Discussed but ultimately subverted in Jigsaw with rumors about John having returned from the dead when a new spree of killings begins around a decade since the last one (wherein John was killed midway through) happened, which kickstarts the film's plot. Come The Reveal at the end, it's shown via a Flashback-Montage Realization that it was an Of Corpse He's Alive ruse made by a new killer.
After the edit:
- Discussed but ultimately subverted in Jigsaw with rumors about John having returned from the dead when a new spree of killings begins around a decade since the last one (wherein John was killed midway through) happened, which kickstarts the film's plot. Come The Reveal at the end, it's shown via a Flashback-Montage Realization that it was an Of Corpse He's Alive ruse made by a new killer.
So, with this said, can I edit the entry so I can add the title back (among some rewording to make the context easier to understand), please?
Edited by Inky100resolved User deleting anything related to the so-called "Soulsborne" continuity
Reginald Ogron 5 for the last couple months, against many other people has been deleting anything that regards FromSoftware as having a series in a loose continuity. Whether that be for Mythology Gag, or Spiritual Successor, or just a reference to a level in another Souls game.
This was their latest justification for a Fan Nickname entry: "Due to this game's legacy, many terms and mechanics that were translated over but retained the same identity are often referred to with their previous names. Therefore, Runes are still frequently called Souls, Sites of Grace are still bonfires, Incantations are Miracles, etc."
"Dark Souls is not Elden Ring's predecessor. I have never seen any of these terms used intentionally as a Fan Nickname, they are almost exclusively used by people who don't care about the lore enough to use the correct terms, I.E. they're just getting it wrong unintentionally."
Despite the fact the director has declared them to be in a sort of series.
He references Elden Ring in this context of "loose" continuity.
When he tried to remove the many concepts from old games that didn't make it in, but were used in Elden Ring on the trivia page, someone wrote this.
"Tropes Are Flexible and the page explanation itself explicitly says it allows for instances of recycled assets and concepts in dlc and the like. Elden Ring was advertised as a Spiritual Successor / "greatest hits" amalgamation of all the prior Soulsborne games, made by the same devs, and uses code and models that are directly lifted from the cut content of those prior entries, it absolutely falls under this umbrella."
I believe he's gone way too far, but before I revert his edits, I want to ask everyone's opinion on this question of Mythology Gag, and see whether it's actually against the site's rules?
Edited by smogmonsteropenShould we make a separate tab for Alternative Character Interpretation? Western Animation

resolved Confused about editing videos
When editing a video (like changing the description, title and/or thumbnail) can you just edit them on your own? Or do you have to go here and alert the mods about what you want to change?
I'm a bit confused about this since I've been doing the former and can edit my own videos, and the forum appears as if the mods are the only ones who can do it.
openMissing piece for resurrected trope
Years ago, a TLP draft of mine, Workers Wear Overalls, was created, only to peter out a couple months later. Now, I've found that Rough Overalls, basically the same thing, not only launched successfully a couple weeks ago, it has all but one of my examples (with the missing one instead going to the equally-new Kiddy Coveralls). After a tense argument between my conscious and my emotions, I decided to let this apparent theft slide, but I do wish they'd copied my description too, as the second paragraph in Workers Wear Overalls details all the reasons why someone would wear overalls with no undershirt, while Rough Overalls distills it down to the fanservice element. I'd like to know if there's any way to bring over the missing, non-fanservice elements in a manner that fits the new format. I typed up that whole thing myself, and I'd hate to see it go to waste.
- Yes, there's probably a forum thread for this, but I've had bad luck with the forums as of late; too many posts at one time means the earlier ones get ignored.

resolved YMMV page may have been made to simply stealth bash the creator
While I was browsing around, I found YMMV.Illymation, which consisted of this:
- Fandom Rivalry: Her fanbase has a rivalry with the fanbase of the commentary channel Think Before You Sleep, due to the latter making a video criticizing Illy for her video entitled "Perks of Being the Fat Kid". Illy allegedly asked her fans on Tumblr to de-platform him in response, leading to the latter making a second video that accused her of taking many of the points he made out of context. Each of the fandoms feels that the other is disingenuous; some of TBYS' fans relate points made in the second video to their comments and/or accuse Illy of trying to save face, while Illy's fans often relate the first video to their comments as a demonstration of where/why she first took umbrage at him.
- Memetic Mutation: "Alright, who's here for the chaos?!"ExplanationSome of her videos start with this sentence, which has since become an unofficial catchphrase among many of her fans to express excitement when she releases a new video.
I have a feeling that this was made to stealth bash the creator, and while I am neutral about the drama, I feel like this is going a bit too far.
openProper trope listing for character Webcomic
One of the character's in Endless Nights at Freddy's is named Nani Pua'a which is a pig and name translates to "Beautiful Pig" in Hawaiian. I haven't been able to figure out which trope goes for her since Bilingual Bonus, Species Surname, A Dog Named "Perro" and Meaningful Name seem to fit there

openGirlfriend shouts down a mob Anime
What trope would cover the situation where an angry mob advances on the sanctuary, intent on destroying the protagonist, but the love interest stops them with an impassioned speech? I'm thinking Lemon (Mashle) and Uraraka (MHA).
openPage title question Anime
I don't see any thread of that nature in the Directory thread (the closest is a thread on translation policy, but I doubt it covers the issue). Should I ask here, or at the Forums? (If I'm suggested to ask here, I'll also ask the question in this thread)
openPokemon ending complaining/misuse?
YMMV.Pokemon To Be A Pokemon Master has these complaints, most if which I removed from other pages per cleanup.
- Audience-Alienating Ending: When it was announced that this would be the final chapter in Ash's story, with an eleven-part miniseries titled To be a Pokémon Master wrapping things up before Liko and Roy took over, fans were eager to see how Ash would conclude his journey now that he was the World Coronation Series Champion. What came next was a massive disappointment to many on both sides of the Pacific; rather than wrap up any of Ash's story arcs, the series ends with him deciding to go Walking the Earth and befriend every Pokémon he can, while the Team Rocket Trio gets back together and decides to endlessly pursue him even if they don't succeed. Besides the fact that Ash's reunion with Brock and Misty, as well as all of his old Pokémon he was finally rotating into his roster, were just Filler episodes designed to homage the original series with little consequence or Character Development, none of the other dangling plot threads (such as Ash's released Pokémon, any potential of him taking up a romantic relationship with Misty or Serena, or his companions own personal goals) were followed though. Worst yet, this blatant Status Quo Is God not only failed to make Ash a Pokémon Master, but undid Team Rocket's Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure within two episodes, and barely acknowledged Ash being the World Monarch, let alone how he would defend his title. Needless to say, those were expecting a grand farewell to the iconic protagonist were let down. It wasn't severe or widespread enough to count, or at least as severe as this argues. chris4449 who first added it added it to AudienceAlienatingEnding.Anime And Manga a few weeks after I removed it from the Journeys YMMV page, which other tropers copied back to the page them moved to it's current one. Is this edit warring to re-remove?
- Esoteric Happy Ending: Team Rocket's final resolution is treated as a happy ending despite the fact it's a cementation of their vicious cycle: Even though their latest failed attempt nearly disbanded the trio permanently, they reconcile and conclude that pursuing Pikachu, the Signature Mon of the World Coronation Series Monarch, is worth spending the rest of their lives for despite 25 years of being offered better life opportunities outside of that impossible goal (and outside of evil in general). While Ash leaves the series as the World Champion seeking out new adventures to better than before, the Team Rocket trio leave unchanged as people and reduced to mere annoyances that barely get Ash's attention anymore. Villains getting an unhappy fate for their unrepentant villainy doesn't sound unintentionally unhappy. This is those who liked them unhappy with their fate which is something else.
- Fan-Disliked Explanation: The final episode establishes that Ash still isn't a Pokémon Master and Ash won't consider himself one until he's befriended every Pokémon he can. Many fans took issue with this feeling it was ludicrous that the anime wouldn't grant Ash the status of Pokémon Master despite this being his last time as the main character and getting crowned as the strongest trainer on the planet. Other fans took issue with how vague Ash's definition of a Pokémon Master was. These fans note Ash's word choice could mean noting anything from catching one Pokémon of every species (making it identical to Goh), or befriending every single individual Pokémon in the world (which is a physical impossibility given the large quantity and some Pokémon like the Malamar trio being unrelentingly evil). This shows there never was an official definition, and Ash decided on a new definition. Besides seeming misuse as it's not the Explanation (how/why) part that's disliked, this seems part of the general complaining so I'm bringing/asking here.
Thoughts, permission to re-remove the first two?
resolved Potential Unilateral Splits
I'm seeing Gate Star X go on another splitting/retitling spree, similar to stuff that has gotten them suspended before. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and not assume anything, but I'm not seeing any of these moves being discussed before they're either being proposed to the mods (for history stuff) or just being done. Just through looking through his history, I see stuff like:
- Splitting stuff from Harley Quinn to Harley Quinn (New 52), Harley Quinn (Rebirth), and Harley Quinn (Infinite Frontier)
- Splitting Suicide Squad (2019) from Suicide Squad
- Changing Catwoman (Tini Howard) to Catwoman (2018)
- Splitting Batwoman into Batwoman (New 52) and Batwoman (Rebirth) (leaving the original page tropeless and also moving a ton of information from the original page to the characters page
- Putting in a gigantic request for page history moves
I normally wouldn't be concerned (none of these moves necessarily seem wrong on their face), but it's a bit of a red flag that I don't see any discussion happening on them (his forum history doesn't show any readily apparent discussion unless it's a pretty old one) and that most of these moves (and the subsequent wick cleaning) among other similar moves have all happened today - going back further leads to further splits on Aquaman and Nightwing. Is this anything to be concerned about or am I overthinking things?
Edit: Since I made this report, he's now split Batman R.I.P. from Batman (Grant Morrison)

resolved OUAS 2.0 Western Animation
Would it be alright if I were to recreate the "Characters" page for Once Upon a Studio: Version 2.0 (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/OnceUponAStudioVersionTwoPointOh)? I'm aware it was removed because of the absence of any tropes, but the characters page for the existing OUAS (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/OnceUponAStudio) has none either, so I'd just like to clear it with you before I do so, as I am aware my previous edits were in breach of the site's regulations.
Earlier today I added this to the recap page for Murder Drones E 7 Mass Destruction:
/Oxyrhynchus removed it with the reason: Not a real trope; appearing as a red link
...except it is.
I PMed them about it, and they claim I must have made a typo. While I did, I fixed it almost immediately after, before they removed the entry. Did I miss something? Is it okay to re-add with this in mind?
