Ask the Tropers:
openGuess who's back again?
xipimping has to be Johnnyfog's latest sock. He's been serial tweaking Secret of Evermore, From Hell and a bunch of Quotes pages, as usual.
openReporting a ban evader
As mentioned in this ATT, I have been monitoring Livingston The Fish for the past few days, and I believe there is evidence that this is yet another sock of johnnyfog/taylorswiftscat/paxbisonica:
- Both tropers share the same interests and edit the exact same pages, including Square Enix games (Final Fantasy, Secret of Evermore) and sci-fi series (Star Trek: Enterprise).
- Extensive edits in Quotes pages, generally involving the rearrangement of examples or creation of folders. Some of these pages were also frequently edited by his previous socks: here, here, here and here.
- Serial tweaking on Final Fantasy X2 pages, while also showing some sort of fascination for Game-Breaker examples.
- Describing a feud in Sean Young's page, which is similar to Taylorswiftscat's other edits on the page.
- Added two additional examples about "Cat Nip" to Final Fantasy. A quick search through the page's history shows that paxbisonica and burgerants both repeatedly added examples detailing said item.
openIs there a way to keep track of a troper's edits?
LivingstonTheFish loves to edit Video Game and Quotes pages, and has recently started editing Final Fantasy-related subpages. This behaviour is eerily similar to that of a repeat ban evader called johnnyfog. Thing is, last time I thought someone was their sockpuppet, the person turned out to be completely innocent. The incident has left me hesitant to request for IP checks, since all I did was bother the mods. So, is there any easy way to keep track of a specific troper's edits? I just want to make sure I have decisive evidence before I accuse someone.
openEither a ban evader or me being paranoid
neuropozyne has been on the wiki since March 7th, which is the day after I reported Johnnyfog's previous sock. Since then, they have edited the Final Fantasy XV page a whopping 49 times. Also, if their edit reasons are any indication, they are surprisingly knowledgeable about the way the site works, despite having joined only recently. May I request an IP check, just to be safe?
openJohnnyfog. AGAIN.
I started to follow the Final Fantasy X-2 page because a certain notorious ban evader seems to have an unhealthy obsession with it. And I'm pretty certain new troper Safety Dance is paxbisonica/taylorswiftscat/johnnyfog again. They exhibit the same editing pattern of serial tweaking to replace one or two words with synonyms, and also edit similar pages (Final Fantasy, Babylon Five, assorted videogames)... Requesting an IP check. Will undo their edits after confirmation.
openPossible Ban-Evader
I noticed this rather large complainy nattery edit on Sequelitis added by paxbisonica and it looked rather familiar.
So I looked through their recent edits and noticed they seem to be making numerous large edits on both quote pages and a lot video games.
I think it might be Johnnyfog ban-evading again.
open Mod Revert
Just noticed that Taylorswiftscat a.k.a frequent ban-evader Johnnyfog had edited a large chunk of Creator.Anthony Ainley.
As no one else has made any edits between his edits, could I request that the page be reverted back to March 5th 2020.
resolved Here's johnny?
Taylorswiftscat edited the quotes page for replacement scrappy, just as one of johnnyfog's socks did, along with johnny himself. They also edited a bunch of quotes pages and the WCW page.
They do seem suspiciously familiar with the wiki for a newcomer, based on my interactions with them.
Edited by SkyCat32open Possible Ban-Evader or maybe just my paranoia
I've noticed some odd editing patterns with taylorswiftscat.
A lot of their edits seems to consist of them unilaterally making large changes (re-organising examples, adding and removing examples) to various quote page without leaving edit reasons or checking with the quote discussion thread.
This behaviour is reminiscent of two ban-evaders I've previously seen; Johnnyfog, and Worldbeater who was recently caught ban-evading as Burgerants.
And looking through their edits to non quote-page pages, they appear to editing the same type of pages that said tropers had previously edited.
So is there any possibility of an IP Check, just in case.
openNo Title
I was clearing out some of johnnyfog's edits to quote pages when I stumbled on Quotes. No Plot No Problem, which, going by the edit history, is seemingly entirely composed of quotes they added. Should the page be cut, or have the examples deleted and new ones added?

Edited by lalalei2001openNo Title
I just noticed that both badhumorman and dicemancometh are both editing the same pages as each other suggesting they might be sockpuppets of one person. This is not a problem and this website does allow that, except I've noticed that both pages are also pages that frequent edit-banner johnnyfog has edited. I might just be paranoid, but is it possible to do an IP check just to be sure.
openPossible Socks of Johnnyfog?
Is Minister Of Sinister a sock of johnnyfog? He just admitted here to being a sock of otemple700 and he (M Inister of Sinister) has a tendency to unilaterally change quotes for little to no reason, as he admits in the linked forum post.
Related ATT threads: Report against Minister of Sinister and Report against otemple700
openCandleeater
Could tropers who are familiar with pro-wrestling take a look at candleeater's edits? I just sent them a PM for adding Flame Bait tropes on a couple of wrestling bookers' YMMV pages, but it looks like there are a lot more problems with their edits that need to be fixed, including opinions on main pages, taking jabs at other shows to make a point, indention issues, and failing to provide context (and possible shoehorns), among other issues. They're also extremely prolific and seem to be taking over the entire wrestling-related portion of the website. I don't know enough about wrestling to fix all of that or even write a helpful enough PM. Hopefully tropers who curate wrestling pages will see this.
Edit: Almost every page candleater's edited has also been edited by johnnyfog (though you'll have to go through the page histories since a johnny's edit history is mostly filled with Star Trek stuff), including those for some of the lesser known wrestlers. Might be a coincidence, but could be worth looking into.
Edited by supergodopenMisused Sub-pages Web Original
I've just found these two sub-pages; AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.Allison Pregler and AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.SF Debris, which are being treated as if they are legitimate Work/Character Pages complete with Trope Examples Lists, when they're.
And looking through the respective page histories reveals that the pages were created by the frequent ban-evader Johnnyfog, albeit before he was perma-banned from the wiki.
openPossible Ban-Evader
I think Dr Romoray, might be previously banned-troper johnnyfog, as they appear to be editing the same type of pages - adding quotes and links to a The M0vie Blog, a website the former would also frequently quote and link to.
open bonesawisready = johnnyfog sock?
This is probably just paranoia on my part, but do the mods know if there is any IP overlap between bonesawisready and the long banned johnnyfog or the more recently banned hamonrye? I ask as bonesawisready's edit history going back to at least November 2015 consists exclusively of edits to pages edited by one or both of johnnyfog and hamonrye (mostly Quotes/ pages and wrestling-related pages, but even the pages outside those areas edited by bonesawisready have been previously edited by one or both of the banned accounts), and are in a similar style (the quotes aren't quite as relentlessly negative, but they're still nearly always related to Doctor Who, Star Trek, or Babylon 5). There's also the fact that bonesawisready's most recent flurry of activity began just after hamonrye was edit suspended earlier this month.
Again, probably just paranoia on my part.
Tropers/Youcantccpme seems to be the latest sockpuppet account of johnnyfog/taylorsswiftscat/paxbisonica. He only has two edits at the moment, but they're on the Final Fantasy V characters page, which was one of the multiple interests of the aforementioned accounts.
However, what makes me think he is the same troper, is that he restored multiple entries that taylorsswiftscat had made a long time ago, or at least used extremely similar wording and edit pattern, under the justification of "Removed redundancies, and examples of Walkthrough Mode".
Exhibit A: Example originally added by taylorsswftscat on September 2020
Example re-added by youcantccpme today
- Crippling Overspecialization: A number of monsters have a nasty response prepared if they"re hit with weapons. Since the Knight never uses anything but swords, this leaves them wide open to counterattacks in some places, the worst place being the Great Sea Trench. The reliance on swordplay makes them susceptible to enemies that can buff their own Defense.
