Find a Trope:
openCreated by an expert
An actual historian, with a previous career writing non-fiction books about history, makes a small shift and writes a historical novel (set in the historical times he usually wrote about, but as a work of fiction).
openNo Title
After the End, there are people who collect mundane tech, usually from the time the work was released or then-20 Minutes in the Future
openPublic Domain Gender Flip
Cousin trope to Historical Gender Flip, where a character in public domain fiction or mythology and religion has their gender flipped. Sometimes overlaps with Little Miss Almighty. For example The Grim Reaper is typically portrayed as male but Marvel and DC's Death is female
openRedemption Fic
Fanfictions where a villain or non-good character undergoes a Heel–Face Turn. Different from Draco in Leather Pants in that they are evil but work to become good, rather than being whitewashed. Masako X's "What If X Turned Good" for example
openAnthropomorphic in the big ways not the small ones
Is there a trope for when a non-human character acts human in the ways that matter, and not knowing or doing small, obvious-for-humans things is excused as "they'e not human" ?
To clarify : In Scoobdy-Doo and Guess who, Scooby-Doo, a speaking dog, is able to drive the Mystery Machine and no one bats an eye. He goes the wrong way because he doesn't know his left from his right, and "well, he's only a dog after all".
In "Playing an RPG for the second time", Marshall the town rat wields a gun and manages to burn an entire town to the ground. We're told that "Marshal has no moral compass, he is a rat". Obviously, he's only a rat.
openOne Man's Trash
...Is another man's treasure.
Basically, do we have a trope for the idea of characters finding neat things in the dump, shaping them up a little, and using them?
openNew Dominant Species
Through time, some Reality Retcon or something else there is a new dominant species in place of humans
openNo Title
Do we have a trope about the audience identifying a character, who is either an alien or an anthropomorphic character, as a member of a specific race? For example, people associate Knuckles the Echidna and Piccolo with them being black-coded, despite the story nor authors intending this.
Edited by TomodachiopenFandom-Induced Misconception
I know we have Fandom-Enraging Misconception, which covers inaccurate beliefs about a work that infuriates regulars, but what about when the fandom itself perpetuates inaccurate fanon ideas that misrepresent characters, plot elements, or even the work as a whole to the outside world?
To give an example, there's been a lot of frustration within the Hololive fandom surrounding the fan-induced Flanderization of certain character traits, which is causing casual fans and new people to receive a skewed perspective of many of the talent's personalities and history. As I understand it, Flanderization is for when writers get lazy or sloppy and devolve a character to an exaggeratedly simple version of themselves, so that doesn't quite cover it, unless I am mistaken. Thoughts?
openThe Bible, but lighter and softer
I remember seeing a trope that deals specifically with Biblical stories being given the Lighter and Softer treatment, usually in Religious Edutainment aimed at children.
Edited by Unnerving_PosterioropenSpeedy sequel
The sequel to a work releases not long after the original work (such as in less than a year).
Edited by jandn2014openName Displacement
Do we have a trope for a work that has the same name as many other works, with a similar format, but is more popular and is practically the defining work of that name?
openDressing as the present
Do we have an article about people dressing up as presents for their loved ones? Can be either played for comedy or fanservice. Either they get an amusingly oversized parcel, or they just dress themselves up with nothing but ribbons and invite their loved one to unwrap their present.
I realized that this fantasy/fanservice/comedy trope pops up every so often, but for the life of me I only have a handful of very specific examples in media.
openNerf into oblivion
An once useful tactic, character, class, weapon, move etc. gets nerfed to the point of being just bad.
openDying Eyeroll Film
Do we have a trope for when someone’s eyes roll up into their head upon death?
openHypocritical Nihilist
Jack Smith ultimately believes that life is meaningless and that we're all destined to die, but pleads for mercy when the Dragonizer tries to kill him.
Think of Toy Story 3, where Lotso ultimately believes toys are meant to be thrown away, but himself doesn't want to die.

Is there a trope for when a career criminal arrives home and gives everyone a gift - which he bought with his ill-gotten money? The scenes I have in mind usually involve the mobster pushing some expensive piece of electronics to his mother, the mother complains that it's too complicated to use and pushing it away, then the mobster gets mad because he feels guilty about his criminal life and is trying to buy his family's love as a for of penitence.
