True. I mean there are Charles Zi Britannia fans just because his voice actor recorded a gag speech of the Emperor about boobs.

I'd just point out that there's a difference between liking a character and thinking they're a good person. It's entirely reasonable to think that Gihren, or Sephiroth, or whoever else are great characters because they're compelling, interesting villains who drive the plot forward while the protagonists scramble to keep up (or because they're pretty — whatever reason you like). If you go so far as to say they're good people, though, then you're Draco in Leather Pantsing so hard that you're probably about to have an aneurysm.

To give a couple of common Gundam examples, a lot of people really like Yazan from Zeta and Ali from 00. They're both textbook examples of the Sociopathic Soldier, Psycho for Hire, and Blood Knight, who enjoy hobbies like War for Fun and Profit. They're undeniably terrible, terrible people... who are incredibly fun to watch.

Of course. There's plenty of villains that I myself Love to Hate. It's just that the people Scherzo and I were talking about aren't doing that. They're in that second category, the leather pantsers who are trying so hard they've lost touch with objective reality.

The attitude seems to be that they'd want to have sex with him, so his victims must really want it too. Excuse me while I shudder.

So I am reading Crossbone Gundam Ghosts, and...the initial enemy being a Sandhoge, apparently...am I supposed to be threatened by it? Its just utterly silly looking.

Speaking of which, how do you go from Geara Doga and Geara Zulu among others like the Doven Wolf to...mobile suits that ride big wheels, giant goofy lobsters with hands, and Zanscare's other slightly dubious seeming ideas.

They...just don't strike me as quite so impressive.

The Sandhoge has always struck me as one of the things that ought to be high-up on the maneuverability tear. All those arms ought to make for amazing AMBAC to reorient with.

Having watched that episode recently, the Sandhoge could've actually been intimidating if the animation weren't so crappy.

I got around to watching Gundam-san just now and I have a question.

...did I seriously just see Sayla Groin Attacking Amuro with a Gundam Hammer in the ED?

Just because something is old doesn't mean it isn't valid. For example, I prefer much of the character designs of 70's, 80's, and early 90's anime compared to much of what we've been getting in more recent years, with a few notable exceptions, and I'm in my early 20's. That said, I'm not too sure what to say about voice acting, but I think his opinion is as valid as anyone else's. YMMV, of course.

Two Gundam characters have probably argued about this, presumably while trying to shoot each other to pieces.

In my opinion, Attack on Titan really went downhill and never recovered after the reveal about Eren. You know which one.

You sure you're posting on the right thread? I mean, AoT fans know I don't like the series at all, but I still want to make sure that they can post happily and in the correct discussion. Thought I'd let you know.

@Native Jovian: That is true, and granted, we often fall victim to this. There is a difference between liking a character a lot and equating them to being "good". You all know my favorite Gundam character, and while I do argue in her defense a lot, I know that in spite of the fact that she is a Nominal Hero at best, most fans will view her as a Blood Knight at worst due to the Never Live It Down moment.

Just as how there is also a difference between hating a character and viewing them as a bad person or unsympathetic. I mean, there are plenty of Gundam characters who fall victim to this.
