Yep. People seemed to ditch the scrappy underdog against the big man narrative as soon as MN 9 turned out to be a turd and now act like Capcom should stick it it to Inafune. It just feels kinda wrong.

Rock Man. EXE / Mega Man NT Warrior Episode 7.

Very Eletrizing! I never knew that Count Elec / Zap was that good in Gratuitous English and Rock n' Roll! And to think that Mohammed Avdol was Kenta Miyake's highest point in english...

A new Net Navi named Wood Man.EXE appears. I'm guessing that his operator is Saloma/Sal, the florist. Especially considering that she appeared with a Zorro-like mask alongside Miyu. Suspicious...

The episode also mentioned a Net Navi tournament which happens at two weeks. Foreshadowing much? I'm also guessing that the game mentioned in the episode references Maximo: Ghosts to Glory.

[up][up]I guess they took MN 9 and the issues surrounding it as a personal betrayal of sorts. Small wonder they'd be more vindictive than Capcom at this point. Capcom either just doesn't really give a shit or is merely feeling a bit smug.

[up][up][up] All the original WWW members got improved a lot from the the jump between mediums , but Count Zap is by far the one who's improved the most as he's only around for two quick scenes in the game and has zero memorable dialogue compared to his Large Ham self in the anime.

Given how Capcom has been on a roll lately with MM 11, DMCV, RE 7, RE 2 Remake and MHW, it look as though Inafune was indeed not needed after all.

[up][up]Don't include Resident Evil 7 as part of that roll, just for starters. Not only it was released years earlier, this game was just as divisive as the previous numbered one. This game isn't the coke people make the propaganda for.

Also, I take it I can't be the only person sick at Monster Hunter in this forum?

Monster Hunter is pretty dope.
Capcom has a ton of great to fantastic IPs. Some talent and the corporate stars aligning are all it takes to make Capcom shine.

[up] 90's Capcom has lots of good games. I just wish a reboot of the games. GOOD reboots in fact.

Rock Man.EXE / Mega Man NT Warrior Episode 8

Aside of the "fight" of Netto/Lan vs Meiru/Maylu, and the big fight of Rock Man.EXE / Mega Man.EXE, Roll.EXE and Guts Man.EXE vs Fire Man.EXE / Torch Man.EXE, nothing interesting.

I'll give my credit to Katsuyuki Konishi. His performance as Hinoken/Mr. Match was just as awesome as Count Elec/Zap. The interesting part is that Trevor Devall, Hinoken's voice actor, also did Black Lagoon's Mr. Chang. And both are bad guys to boot (Well, Black Lagoon is already a World of Villains.)

I'm expecting more and more of Netto and Meiru. Their Belligerent Sexual Tension was meh, but I have the feeling that the first season of the anime their relationship will be much more developed.

Perhaps a coincidence, but Episodes 6, 7 and 8 marks the World Three members as nuisances of the week once again:

Also, the next episode FINALLY shows the last member of the World Three that appeared in the anime opening. Also, the debut of Mysterious Rival Z aka Enzan/Chaud and Blues.EXE / Proto Man.EXE.

Capcom: "Want a new game? Buy our glorified emulator first. Didn't buy it? Well fuck you all."

Yeah, the same stuff they pulled on Darkstalkers. The exact same stuff.

This basically means they're throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, the stuff being franchises they previously abandoned.

I hate this kind of business maneuver.

Money talks in big business. And that's what Capcom is: a big business. At least this time it led to something good.

If the X collections sell does that mean we're getting MMX 9?

TBH, I can think of worse strategies than "sell repackaged old games to see if there's a demand for more and fill that demand."

I mean it's not uncommon for companies to gauge a series' marketing potential by releasing a compilation or a throwback. It can definitely backfire, either through a new instalment that misses the mark (Golden Axe, for example) or throwing a buggy, crappy emulated collection out there, but it happens and it can pay off.

In an ideal world, the folks at Capcom would go "Well, Mega Man's back in chic, let's make a new game!" - but an appearance in Smash Bros. and a small but steadfast and loyal fanbase isn't a guarantee that they'll make a return on their investment in a new game. So to test the waters, I can understand releasing the Legacy Collections and gauging the sales numbers. Business has worked this way for years - not to defend Capcom, I really dislike on-disc DLC and I remember them being a big perpetrator of that in years past, but it's not that new of a practice and it's not that big of a deal.

Hell, we might even have a trope for this.

Among the shitty things Capcom has said or done that statement strikes me as relatively inoffensive in comparison. At least they feel like they can make money off Mega Man now.

Now? This is like the fifth legacy collection

I'd almost rather the franchise die if Capcom is so timid with the idea of making new games

My interpretation is that by the Gamecube collections, Capcom were more or less done with the Classic series and X and they were putting more of a focus on Battle Network. People got fed up with all the Mega Man sequels and spinoffs and stuff, they stretched Battle Network thinner than it was intended to be stretched, then the ZX and Star force games came out to relatively little fanfare, then Legends 3 got cancelled and Inafune left the company. From there, I think Capcom wanted to give the series a break - they were vilified at that point for killing Mega Man, after being vilified for years for releasing too much Mega Man.

I think they might have gotten the message when Inafune pledged Mighty No. 9, but they couldn't have directly competed with it because people would have vilified them even more for commercialising what people saw as Inafune's baby against his own revival attempt. And when Mighty No. 9 failed, Capcom would have needed to keep quiet for similar reasons, or because its high-profile failure created a backlash against that type of gameplay.

It's only after so much time, after gauging customer interest this long after Mighty No. 9 crashed and burned, that Mega Man could conceivably have been revived. They opened themselves to the possibility after a few years of resting the IP (and after its direct successor went down in flames), and to ensure that a Mega Man 11 would be well-received, they released this collection as a feeler to gauge how a potential new Mega Man would be received.

I dunno, this is all speculation. Just a personal interpretation as to how this could have been handled.

From what I can remember around the time ZX and Star Force were being released, Mega man games were selling mostly pretty poorly across the board.

Inafune's failure has done no damage to the genre. Don't forget Azure Striker Gunvolt came by the same time as Mighty No. 9.

[up][up]That's on Capcom as far as I can tell, they tanked Mega Man's brand reputation at that point between hammering out a ton of sequels in the GBA era and a few of them outright being bad games.

Only tanked further when Star Force 2 was the Battle Network 4 of that series, and I can only assume ZX fell into obscurity due to being toenail-stubbingly difficult.
