So, did it ever happen to you that a character you made resembled one from series/film/game/book you've never read? I'm not talking about a conscious attempt on Expy or Captain Ersatz, or seeing some loose image that just got stuck in your mind.

For example:

Now that you mention it, there are some striking similarities between one of my characters and Yukimura from Sengoku Basara. Fortunately, the former uses a sword while the latter uses two spears.

More recently, one of my other characters, a cowardly bookstore owner, looks almost exactly like Niko, a cowardly soldier from Arc Rise Fantasia. Get out of my head, Japanese video game developers!

My first Dungeons and Dragons character was a Chaotic Neutral sorceress who also wound up being a short, scrawny Jerkass with red hair. I played her for two years before it dawned on me that she had a little too much in common with a certain anime heroine (even if her attitude was different). To make things worse, this was a campaign where every character was a Godmode Sue and the D M would pit us against enemies randomly picked from other media.

Krela, from my Firefly OC fic would probably be well-portrayed by Clint Eastwood.

Anya: Kind of a mix between Celia and Renee from the Harvest Moon series. I see her having Celia's long brown hair and general looks, but Renee's clothes. Possibly Anissa's.

I have a doctor on a spaceship who accidentally ended up looking just like Simon Tam.

I made a character who could easilly be mistaken for Rorshach from Watchmen. I was trying to reduce a skull down to the simplest components and ended up with a face that looked like his mask. The rest of the character would have been fine except that once you'd made the connection with the mask everything about him seemed copied from Rorshach.

I made another character who could be considered a Hellboy rip off. I can't help it if I make a demon with red skin and yellow eyes who beats up nazis. (though to be true I did copy Hellboy's eyes, though no more) (actually no, I just checked my original drawing and the eyes were my own idea)

And in the same setting I have a human-fish person. Inspired by Lovecraft and Frankenstein but still unfortuanatly similar to Abe.

Oh, and I once made up a name for a story only to find it in some book years later. It was a completly made up name too.

My main character ended up looking like a cross between Jin from Tekken and Tyler Durden's or Cyclops's sunglasses. Which is weird cause if anything, he was more inspired by Godot from Ace Attorney really. I don't mind it though, I tried redesigning him several times after that but I'm happy with the original design and I can't see a different look for him.

Many years ago I drew a character that I really liked the costumed design of. Then the artwork for Twilight Princess was leaked.

I once created a Dark Jedi for a Star Wars RP online, when I was younger and dumber. It took me a few years to realize that I'd created Edward Cullen.

I made a cartoony demon character a while back, but didn't realize until afterwards that the skull/mask/head looked like a Salandit with Ember's horns. I'm working on redesigning her now.

When I was in middle school, I created a villain named Cobra King. He had chalk white skin, red eyes with slit pupils, was bald, wore a black robe, and nearly everything he did was snake-themed.

I would like to point out that Harry Potter had not yet been published at that point.

Yep, I make a elric expy without even knowing, I cant pick that out my mind after watching the whole thing.

Most recent one for me is Sandri, a Wild Child girl, early in her integration to civilization. I've tended to imagine her with long, wild hair and dressed in a smock or simple dress because she'd put up a fight against anything more.

At some point it hit me that this image bears a striking resemblance to the human child form of Tenchi Muyo!'s Ryo-Ohki.
