Opening. Here's the previous thread.
I'm inclined to go for BUPKIS on this one, if we can't think of a solid suggestion.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThe former isn't really that bad. It's not great, but his expression at least shows something. The latter needs to go.
Technically, both are JAFAAC, although that smarmy grin on the Film page's pic tips it very slightly into "good enough to keep pending other ideas" range for me.
Might not be the best image, but Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter might make a better example. The grin she makes just screams unlikable.
It's an Audience Reaction Trope, no? If it is, then we'll need a lampshade, but in general it would be very hard to illustrate.
BUPKIS.

Spiral out, keep going. It doesn't have the YMMV banner at the top...
Hate Sink is when a creator deliberately makes a character that is unlikable so that the audience won't get ideas of Draco in Leather Pants and geninuely hate them with a passion.
You know, if we are talking about audience reactions, perhaps an In-Universe play within a cartoon would help.
How about Hoarce playing as Simon Legree from Uncle Tom's Cabin in Mickey's Mellerdrammer?
Note: Values Dissonance is at play for the cartoon as a whole.

I like 5 because Umbridge has a super-punchable face.
Though this might be my personal bias talking.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Hate Sink is very hard to illustrate cuz no character is so universally well known for everyone to know what it means. Of course a good option would be a compose picture maybe with the character in one frame and a lot of people booing in the other.
I like that
11 works well enough.
11 could be The Scrappy out of context.
I don't think he looks that much like The Scrappy since he does look like he has villainous qualities with the whip and the mustache.
I don't know what makes you think he could be The Scrappy considering that
A) This character is a Dastardly Whiplash
B) He has a whip in his hand
C) He is knocking on Uncle Tom's Cabin, indicating he's a slave master or fugitive hunter.
D) The caption below makes it clear he's supposed to be Simon Legree, a character that the YMMV lists him as a Complete Monster.
I could replace the top image with Simon trying to whip Uncle Tom (played by Mickey Mouse), but I'm not keen to cause unintentional controversies regarding Mickey Mouse being Black Face or have the picture be misinterpreted as the audience booing at Uncle Tom rather than Simon.

A) I didn't know that trope, and I don't think mustaches make people evil
B) I didn't notice it's a whip, believe it or not
C) I had absolutely no idea about that because I'm not familiar with the work
D) I also had absolutely no idea he was a Complete Monster

to 11. Even if you're not specifically familiar with the Dastardly Whiplash trope, there's enough there to make him Obviously Evil.
We might be loosing ourselves in details. The message that we need to come across is "A character that audiences hate to the guts", which I agree 11 does the work. Whether the character is in-universe X or Y that's another matter.
I guess is for the Main page, what would work for film - live action though?

The image for Umbridge may work. I don't know of any other suggestions yet.
Any image that's just someone smirking or looking particularly evil are JAFAAC or another evil appearance trope like Obviously Evil, not this one. The in-universe reaction like in 11 or a lampshade is needed, I think.
I like 11.
Check out my fanfiction!I'll go with 11 in lieu of anything else.
(Annoyed grunt)I've read both The Scrappy and Hate Sink descriptions, and while the end Audience Reaction is the same. the difference is in authorial intent. The Scrappy even has Unintended Hate Sink as an alternative name. While I'm not familiar with Uncle Toms Cabin, 11 get my vote, since it has both the audience reaction and the Obviously Evil character. Unless it has a really clueless author.
Spiral out, keep going. For those who want context of that image (as there is no trope page for Mickey's Mellerdramer)
I should note, it involves Mickey and friends performing a minstrel show, complete with ethnical stereotypes and Black Face.
For context of Simon Legree in the actual novel, here his entry from the Complete Monster page:

The images for HateSink.Live Action Films and HateSink.Video Games are, well, Just a Face and a Caption. I remember we tried to find an image Main.Hate Sink, but failed due to it being hard to convey in an image. Should the images be removed and a note saying not to add images without approval?
