Well, sorta, as Hypersensitive hearing is a real thing. Explanation! Athena Cykes has the ability to hear even the slightest of sounds or fluctuations in emotion. This doesn't sound too useful on paper until you apply it to the Kangaroo Court of the Ace Attorney universe, where it's a central gameplay mechanic and vital to solving many cases that would've ended up stone cold!
That's part of the whole Alchemist occupation! Create cool stuff outta everyday stuff! With the principal of Equivalent Exchange, Edward can make all sorts of stuff using his abilities. Even more so, with his skill of transmutating without a circle. For example, in Chapter 3 of the Manga, Edward creates gold out of a bunch of mining materials! (He did turn them back afterwards, as it was part of a scheme to outdo a corrupt person).
