Yu-Gi-Oh! Renaissance Academy Interest Check and Signups

5 years ago, to combat the steady decline of able duelists in the country, Canada established its first ever Dueling school, Renaissance Academy, located on the outskirts of Ottawa, Ontario. In those 5 years, it firmly solidified its reputation, and ambitious young duelists flocked to it not just from around the nation, but also the world.. This new year is no different, and thousands of students shall gather once more to test their decks, and their spirits.

Hello, everybody. Yes, this is another Yu Gi Oh Academy RP, and yes, I know there’s a bunch of them already. What I want to do here though, is make this pretty much entirely Slice of Life. Every single Yu Gi Oh RP out there deals with some sort of life-threatening danger, so I figured I would change this one up. So, instead of worrying about the apocalypse, students here should instead worry about their exams or grades or what-have-you.

The RP will be in something like an episodic format. A day would equal an episode, and for those episodes, main character positions will be assigned. The number can range anywhere from a single character to the entire cast (for large events and such). You can volunteer your own plot ideas where you get the MC position, but the less-seen players will get priority. I'll probably keep a calendar handy for this, so it doesn't get too confusing.

Rules and such:

• Standard rules apply here, just as they do everywhere. So no godmodding or ghosting or any of that other fun stuff.
• I cannot stress this enough, but please do not drop without warning. This causes a big inconvenience for everyone. If you are leaving, even if temporarily, please tell us. If you are gone for 30 days with no warning, I may have to take control of your character to wrap up whatever duel you’re in. Please don’t make me do that.
• I have some events planned, but I’m always open to suggestions. If you have some sort of plot event you would like to see take place, feel free to PM me about it.
• Deck making.
  • First of all, decks should comply with the latest banlist. I understand that there are two of them, but we’ll use the TCG one here,^* The one I linked. because that’s what they use in non-Japan.
  • Second, I would prefer that there be no meta decks, since we’re here to have fun. I’ll probably allow up to Tier 3, but that’s as far as I’m probably willing to go. If you don’t understand what I’m saying here, then just post your deck and I’ll tell you if it’s okay.
  • Third, God cards are, of course, forbidden.
  • Fourth, there might be matches, so you’re allowed Side Decks. You don’t have to have them, but I’m just saying, it’s on the table.
• I reserve the right to deny people with no explanation whatsoever. It’s the only fun part of being a GM

• Bio: Reggie is the son of two runaways who met working in the circus. Both were working clowns who had fled their family responsibilities to find love and work in the circus. Somehow, it worked out and they continue to travel with the circus, being two of the biggest names in their traveling cirque. Reggie, being born into this life, rapidly grew hateful of it. People laughed at him and everyone around him was some sort of freak. Refusing to follow in his parents' footsteps, he ran away from home to hone his skills as a duelist; someone respected and beloved by his peers and swarms of swooning fangirls. Truly, there was no way this plan was anything but foolproof.

• Name: Dmitri Anatoly Chekhov
• Gender: Male
• Age: 17
• Birthday: December 24
• Appearance: Dmitri is tall and lanky, and tends to wear billowy scarves to look cool. He has long blond hair that is perpetually messy, and tends to wear sunglasses at all times, even indoors at night. He usually has cargo pants on, and a brown jacket. When working on something, he'll also tie a bandanna over his hair.
• Bio: Dmitri was born in Archangel, Russia, but his family moved to Canada early in his life. He was always a talented Duelist, and loved working on the old Duel Arena near his house, eventually building a shoddy Duel Disk that worked... when already hooked up to the Duel Arena. He came to Renaissance Academy to better his abilities as a technician and a Duelist.
• D-Pad/Gazer: Dmitri uses a custom-build Duel Disk that he finally completed at the end of last year; it is a shield-like circle with a touch screen that allows him to check the stats of any card quickly.

• Gender: Male

• Birthday: June 6
• Appearance: David is normally a rather shabby looking individual, though he could look a lot better if he put some effort into his appearance. He has somewhat greasy looking black hair, is always wearing black sunglasses, and apparently has unusual, maroon eyes underneath them. He usually slouches and has poor posture, concealing the fact he's actually a muscular, athletic looking sort. He usually wears a long, black coat over a black short sleeved shirt, black jeans and steel toed boots. He's usually got a bemused grin on his face. He carries with him an odd little photo showing him and a red haired young man his age apparently stargazing.
• Bio: David's bio is rather simple; grew up in Toronto, fond of dueling, has above average skill, and was selected for the school. He does, though, seem to be keeping any more details about his past secret.

• Name: Vera Varda.
• Gender: Female.
• Age: 18.
• Birthday: January 1st.
• Appearance: Cheery, isn't she?◊
• Bio: The Israeli-born Vera always liked fairy tales and kept asking people to tell her such stories way after the time most people start to find them childish. Unlike other Russian olim^note  immigrants, but specifically Jews immigrating to Israel , her parents managed to find fine jobs in Israel — her father even finding a job in an engineering company — so her family was rather well-off.
  Up until four years ago, Vera's life was simple and happy — a big mash of school, fairy tails and Duel Monsters. Four years ago, while Vera took the bus home with a friend, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the bus, injuring both Vera and her friend, who shielded her the best she could.
  After a lengthy sojourn in the hospital, Vera's parents decided they had enough and moved as far as possible from the Intifada — to Canada. There Vera enrolled in Renaissance Academy. Gone, however, was her cheerful and child-like personality, replaced by a jaded and cold outlook; in the four years she spent in Renaissance Academy she earned a reputation for being icier than the tundra and a variety of less-than-complimentary nicknames.
• D-Pad/Gazer: Vera's D-Pad is shaped like a crow's wing. Her Gazer looks like a stylised raven, its beak dripping with blood.

• Name: Cale Armalfi
• Gender: Male
• Age: 16
• Birthday: January 8
• Appearance: Cale is a tall young man, standing at six foot three, he has black hair, green eyes, and a handsome countenance. His stance is described best as an overconfident swagger, and he's usually smirking confidently. He wears a very expensive looking fur coat, a black long sleeved shirt that looks quite tight, black jeans, and boots. He carries with him a little necklace that has a picture of his family in it.
• Personality: Cale is basically a rich snob, having an incredibly overconfident personality, married to a desire for success and fame. Cale seems to be enormously confident, to the extent that he seems to possess no shame. He seems to think he's above the rules, because of who his father is, and that he can do whatever it is he wants to do. All the same, there are a few lines Cale refuses to cross - one of them being severely physical bullying. He's perfectly fine verbally haranguing people, but if it starts to turn physically dangerous on the victim, he's done. While he's usually calmly cocky, put him in a situation where he cannot easily win, and watch his inner Ham emerge.
• Bio: Cale is the son of Ardens Armalfi, and it is known that Cale's mother died shortly after his birth, so he never really got a chance to know her. By all accounts, though, the woman was a saint. While he brags a lot about his family's wealth, it is evident that he is not all that fond of his father's harsh parenting style.
• D-Pad/Gazer: His Duel Pad is a bright blue color, with white on the pad portion, which seems to pulse.

• Name: Caramon Carson
• Gender: Male
• Age: 16
• Birthday: October 17
• Appearance: Like so.
• Bio: Caramon Carson was a pretty typical Duel Monsters obsessed person growing up (In the state of Minnesota), with one exception: He had a rather large amount of interest in the somewhat out-dated concept of Dueling Styles. He enthusiastically took to the idea, and spent quite a bit of his early life testing one Syle or another. The one he eventually settled on was Tribal Style, which focused on maintain strong, versatile plays with limited resources while using Decks that are Monster Card-only, or extremely close. While his ability to train himself was limited, he did his best to model on the Tribal Style's ideas. His focus on honing his Style eventually led his path to Renaissance Academy. His self-proclaimed status as a Style Duelist led him to obtaining a reputation as a very...odd person, but he doesn't mind. It may be out of style, but he likes it.

• Bio: Damien has been known to live in his Father and older brother's shadows. Both of them very famous, very popular Duelists from Chicago. As such, his standards were set upon him when he was very young. Since then, he's been struggling to not only live up to the standards his brother and father expect of him, but trying to make a life for himself, not one made for him. Despite his outward goofiness and chipper personality, he does hold quite an inferiority complex.
• D-Pad/Gazer: A D-Gazer made for him by his father's company. Very simplistic, but with the Anderson Logo on the side of it, a stylized, burning A with red plastic and orange screen.

Just a note because it really bugs me, they're called "Bujingi" (As in Crane, Quilin, Boar etc.) rather than "Bujinji".

I'd like to join, but I haven't played the Yu-Gi-Oh card game since 2004-2005, so I've missed out on all the rules changes.

If someone can help me update so I can make a deck, I'll gladly join. I've been doing a little bit of research and I'm thinking of a Vampire-themed deck.
