Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

ok, so as i was scouring for more movies on youtube, every time i click on one, most of them show this ad that says something about a "Youtube Website Partner" or something. is this something to worry about?

EDIT: on the bright side, I found some more (that thankfully weren't purged): A surreal movie from the 70's called "The Psychotronic Man", A movie based off of "Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde" called "I, Monster", A sci-fi movie that appears to be a thriller called "Android", and a Star Wars ripoff called "The Humanoids".

[up]We've seen half of those movies here before. The Humanoid was very well received. Christopher Lee in I, Monster would sound good, though.

Anyway, I won't be around in the evenings until Saturday, but in the near future here tonight, we'll be rolling back out the family film Just Like Dad, the adorable story about a kid who would prefer his father to be a good-looking super stud rather than look and act like... Wallace Shawn. But appearances aren't everything. Ain't that the truth?

I wanna be Just Like Dad! No, not my real one!

But before that, I wanna play in an Electric Playground, watch a bad Kickstarter, and see Dunkey mess around.

Come on! The party's starting in https://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

At dinner, my dad asked me if I could find him that video he'd seen years ago about a married couple discussing how they like to screw horses.

Well, in the process of looking for it (I found it easily), I found an entire 50 minute documentary about that type of crap.

I started cracking up only a few minutes in. And it even features a man who was on Jerry Springer! (More amusingly, the Jerry Springer episode never aired! It was deemed too controversial.)

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOoooooooooooo...

I'll look forward to being back with the rest of all of you tomorrow night, but first things first, we got Kung Fu Friday and... something called Zombie Ninjas vs. Black Ops.

Have at it.

It's not Ninjas vs. Pirates, it's Zombie Ninjas vs. Black Ops tonight.

But before that, some MXC and Godfrey Ho.

Come on in, we got ninjas! [nja] https://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

A movie that contains black ops and zombie ninjas really could have done a lot more with its premise. It makes me think of The Asylum in that it has a funny premise and doesn't do enough with it (a big problem with many of their movies).

It got ★.

Sad as I am to say this, but the pitch meeting for Zombie Ninjas vs. Vampire Pirates vs. Werewolf Vikings vs. Robot Samurai didn't go so well. In that no one in Hollywood was interested in giving me the meeting to begin with.

You think it would have gone better if I added alien wizards and Nazi dinosaurs?

Mind the video quality of the below trailer.

We're looking forward to a night of British horror tonight with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in I, Monster, based on Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The thing that ruined it for me was the way they handled the ninjas; sure, they were kung fu fighters who moved around swiftly, but they didn't feel like ninjas (even before The Reveal that they were actually just zombie Black Ops soldiers wearing balaclavas).

They couldn't be scary like Romero zombies (since zombiefying more people would ruin their Elite Mook appeal).

If they were portrayed something like the way ninja were seen in feudal Japanese times (feared assassins who had almost supernatural powers and struck from the shadows) and their zombie-like traits were kept ambiguous (maybe even supernatural seeming), they could have been genuinely scary. What we needed was something like the xenomorphs from Alien (an apparently unstoppable killer which could reach out of the shadows for its next kill at any moment), but what we got was a bunch of twitchy, unarmed Twenty One Pilots cosplayers who spent so long pummelling their victims, you get the impression that the rest of the cast were just too stupid to run instead of gawking.

Alright, we'll begin our evening now with the rollout of another trial through The Crystal Maze with Richard O'Brien.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, the legendary pair of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing star in I, Monster.

It's Oscar Night, and that can only mean one thing for our little group. From the fabulous year in television that brought us the Star Wars Holiday Special, it's the 1978 Science Fiction Film Awards with your hosts Karen Black and William Shatner!

Also, as a knowledgable reminder, this awards ceremony is still an annual event more commonly known nowadays as "The Saturn Awards", but the 1978 gala marks the only occasion when the event was broadcast and aired in syndication on American television. No guesses as to why this hasn't received more media coverage ever since.

My dad was telling me after dinner yesterday about some ridiculous movie he was laughing at, whose title was named after some common movie warning, but he couldn't remember which one.

Well, today he e-mailed it to me now that he found it again. It's called Viewer Discretion Advised, and it's by none other than Troma.

While watching that one, I saw A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell listed on the side, and just had to check that one out. Jump to 36 minutes in and you'll see the scene that convinced me that's a better one to send.

Furthermore, according to my dad, Viewer Discretion Advised is essentially little more than a collection of random scenes. A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell looks a lot more fun to me.
