All Purpose Super Robot Wars Fanfiction Thread

Any other suggestions?

Even if I come up with a way to use everything I have in mind/feel comfortable in screwing around with, essentially a dual-route, that gives me

Supers: Mazinkaiser, Getter Robo, The Brave Express Might Gaine, Tekkaman Blade, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Space Runaway Ideon, Gunbuster, and Gao Gai Gar, with

Reals: Full Metal Panic, Code Geass, Martian Successor Nadesico, and Dynasty Warriors Gundam with whatever comes along in its wake. Might throw in SPT Layzner too, though it'd be mostly based on that show's appearance in SRW J.

.... Actually, that looks like a fairly decent roster, except that a number of the settings are kinda mutually-exclusive - while I can mix Getter Armageddon and G Gundam with minimal problem, or the same with Gao Gai Gar and Might Gaine, each pair won't really gel with the other.

... Then again, there are probably setting details in each show that could be done away with to one degree or another (like in The Brave Express Might Gaine, all fossil fuels have been used up.... so now everything runs on electricity presumably provided by green energy sources)... After all, Nadesico usually isn't nearly as far into the future in SRW as it was in its home series.

Screw Robotech, enough looking around the internet can bring subbed MAAACUUURROOOSSS itself. Which you should totally used, only one series has had those in it.

Don't use ZERO, I'm using that! Mazinger Angels is a pretty cool idea (if only for the cool guy version of Boss and that detective getting into a relationship with Jun (also, Minerva X being AWESOME)), so you could use that. Or you could try to do something based on New Mazinger (which only HAD one chapter released), or Panda Z...

For the Getter, use New. It's sorely underrepresented, and I would use it myself if Shin VS Neo wasn't a requirement for setup (for a certain work.

I had an idea recently: Alternate dimension involving SRW. Think about it, you have La Gias, Byston Well (and that means Wings of Rean and MAYBE Garzey's Wing are usable), Rinne No Lagrange's side dimension, the side dimension from Vision Of Escaflowne... and you could meld them together with [[Super Dimensional Century Orguss Orguss and the Space Time Oscillation Bomb!)

• note: I'm working on a potential SRW idea myself involving multiple time periods - first fic would be things like Mobile Suit Gundam, 8thMSTeam, Blue Destiny (a side story to MSG), War In The Pocket, Gundam AGE, Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, Kotetsu Jeeg, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Garzey'sWing, and a few others and as time goes on we would enter later eras (UC Gundam continues down the path towards Victory Gundam at the end, AGE finishes, Getter goes through G, Shin, Ark, Hein... Mazinger goes through Great Mazinger and UFO Robo Grendizer, Kotetsushin Jeeg, Macross would move to Macross Plus, Macross7, and Macross Frontier, and so on). Basically, it would be a full on WAR, with various series also being shuffled in and out (Jeeg's massive time skips means it would be early and late, we could probabmly stick something like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in there with its 7 year skip, and Tekkaman Blade with its 10 year skip... and of course some random things would be thrown in to round out various time periods).

I don't have time to get to work on that (I still have to do more work on The King Of The Heavens Evangelion and I have to finish watching the shows for SE - only part of Dragonar, Turn A, Rinne No Lagrange, a rewatching of Rebuild of Evangelion, Rah Xephon, all of Tekkaman Blade, Full Metal Panic (INCLUDING going around and trying to find translations for the non-anime stuff), and Megas XLR to go! - so I'm not going to get to do anything soon on this.) But I would be willing to help someone else with it, I have some good ideas floating around (not as well formulated as other stuff in my head, like the Getter Robo Armageddon crossover, but still), and I would be willing to see someone else write them.

Only thing is Megas XLR. The only one I'll put with Robotech is Shadow Chronicles 'cause of the Haydonites. They are such hammy villains.

The point of using Robotech as a Macross representative was basically just to throw poor Robotech a bone. ... wait, Macross is only 13 episodes or so, right? If I can find it, you may be onto something...

I only brought up Angels because it and the five volumes of the original Mazinger Z manga are all I really have ready access to. Hrm... maybe I'll do some kind of fusion - the general stylistic change seen in Mazinger Angels, but still starring Koji and Mazinger Z. So instead of Mazinsaga meets Charlies Angels, it'd be more like Mazinsaga meets Knight Rider. But probably without KITT.

Getter kinda has a similar problem to Mazinsaga, in that I'm limited in what I have access to - the only Getter anime I have is Armageddon, but I've got a fair chunk of the manga; IIRC, I've got Classic, G, and Go. And of those manga, I prefer Classic the best. Classic is the one where Hayato debuted as a sociopathic terrorist. Thing is, if I went with Armageddon, I could use the Getter Nuke as the main catalyst for all of Earth's governments evacuating to the Colonies, and as further justification - to them, at least - for wantonly using Earth as a battlefield for the Gundam Fight. Come to think of it, I can probably toss Second Impact somewhere into that equation as well.

Yeah, from what I hear, most of the time when G Gundam shows up in an SRW game it pretty much only focuses on the Dark Gundam plot. While, while admittedly REALLY DAMN IMPORTANT, I find disappointing.

re:Code Geass: Britannia would probably be relocated to take the place of Britain. Because I totally always mistakenly thought that was where they were based, with North America just being conquered territory. I probably won't use Code Geass, though, because other than having Takuma survive and join the Black Knights with his Behemoth (having now deluded himself into thinking that Kallen is his Cool Big Sis; and Zero makes her go along with it) don't really know what to do with it.

Only one thing is absolutely certain. No matter what path I take, I desperately want to do a certain fight between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tekkaman Blade. Ramiel vs Tekkaman Blade: Wave-Motion Gun Beam-O-War.

Now I'm remembering aside from the Megas XLR inclusion is some peeps asking if people in powered armor like Tekkaman Blade can be included.

I'm suddenly thinking about the Iron Man movie adaptations and stuff.

If I get around to do writing on this (RP/fanfiction), I'll be sure to get around and read up on Patlabor (at least the manga for more details).

Two things. First off, Tekkaman Blade isn't actually Powered Armor, it's straight-up Henshin Hero - Tek-Setting transforms D-Boy et al into a completely different type of life-form. Now, the human-produced Sol Tekkaman units, those are Powered Armor.

Second, Blade already appeared twice(J and W), so we know he's cool for SRW fics.

I'm sorry, are you suggesting you throw Harmony Gold anything related to a bone? Maybe if you were aiming for their heads... they don't even deserve having a bone with nothing on it thrown to them.

EDIT: As for powered armor, Tekkaman Blade is a bad example (Tekkaman really ISN'T powered armor, though Pegas is a robot and the Sol Tekkamen are armor.) But Detonator Orgun could be considered that. And IIRC Iczer One could as well.

Not sure on adding Dexter's Laboratory since the director is a sentai fan and had episodes where Dexter and Mandark had super robot-style robots.

Guess Iron Man Marvel movieverse is out of the question.

(Assuming you can't, either take Classic or Armageddon - Shin VS Neo has merits only in two occasions, and fanfiction shouldn't have to worry as much about one of those)

Question time now. Would it be in poor taste if I slightly mess around with a few of the official couples? Like having Domon and Rain include Allenby in a One True Threesome, or Akito settling down with Ryoko instead of Yurika?

I can see you pulling the former off easily (Both girls certainly loved him, and neither hated the other), but you have to be careful with handling the characterization in the latter - depending on the path the story goes, if it simply changes things enough that he goes for her, then sure, it would work.

Alternatively, you could handle Akito's massive problem an entirely different way. Actually, I can see a LOT of people in Nadesico getting that, there was a lot of triangs.

The Akito thing, as it occurred to me while I was watching Nadesico itself, is basically: In Akito's case, at least, No Guy Wants to Be Chased, and Yurika and Megumi's Clingy Jealous Girl tendencies certainly don't help their case. However, Ryoko - despite being just as head-over-heels as the other two - refuses to chase after Akito like some kind of love-starved twit out of pride. Thus, Akito gradually starts to gravitate more towards Ryoko.

Certainly, Yurika and Megumi are still valued members of the Nadesico's True Companions, and I don't at all dislike them. I just don't like them as love interests for Akito.

Far as the G Gundam situation goes, I'm probably going to try and create some situations where Allenby and Rain can get some Back-to-Back Badasses/Smash Sisters time before the conclusion, for them to get more properly acquainted with each other and make the OT3 progression flow a bit better.

And I have also decided on the "finalized" series list.

• Mazinger Z (classic manga, but with Scrander Boomerang capability from Mazinkaiser)

• Neon Genesis Evangelion (anime)

• Tekkaman Blade
• Martian Successor Nadesico (anime)
• Mobile Fighter G Gundam
• Dynasty Warriors Gundam (first game's original mode, based on the Domon/Zechs/Puru team's route)

For G Gundam, I'm thinking of skipping the first half of the series - basically, up to Master Asia's appearance or so - because the arc where he's Walking the Earth hunting Kyoji and challenging people to Gundam Fights would probably be kind of awkward.

I think I'll be able to do well enough with just that, but if I decide that I want/need more event scenarios, then I can work in Full Metal Panic, Gun Buster, and possibly Ideon later, though Ideon will be based on the two Compilation Movies, A Contact and Be Invoked.

... I have the feeling that Shut Up, Hannibal! is a trope we'll be seeing quite a bit in this fic....

You better include the fight from the Getter manga where Musashi fights in Getter with a dog and a blow-up Getter 1.

Since I want to base scenarios off of events that only appear in the series but are omitted from Rebuild, yeah, I'm not using it for this fic. Not even to bring in Mari.

Nope. To be fair, most of the Super/Real robot shows I've personally seen don't really do much outside of Japan's general area, although I do seem to recall Getter Robo having an incident in South America when Musashi joined the team, and I also remember Might Gaine having a few non-Japan/Asia-area episodes, so the situation may change as I reread and rewatch the assorted media.

I don't recall that scene - but then again, I never actually got around to finishing the manga (obviously I'm going to reread it from the start, though, before I actually start writing the fic itself), but yes, I will absolutely make a note to include that battle.

The current plan is, 'no', but then again I haven't seen any of the said movies. If I should end up watching them between now and whenever I get done outlining, I may change my mind and include them.

I'm going to deny suggesting putting in Megas XLR for starters.

It was the "special chapter" at the end of the original manga, having taken place somewhere near the end of the original GR plot.

Also, would you include Getter Go but not Shin Getter Robo? SGR was a prequel, after all... if I was using the manga, I would have Basic/G/Shin, with whatever anime elements I could scrounge up... and Musashi and Benkei both not dying.

If you DO include Getter G, though, you should have that thing that looks like a mix between Shin Dragon and Kotetsu Jeeg. Just because.

Depends. If you're familiar with the exclusive OGs for the various games, then go for it.

Actually, I meant that as in "attempt to create a new Original Generation cast and plot for the fic", but there's already a shit-ton of research involved in this fic as is. And as much as I love Calvina and Al-Van, I'm not reworking the fic to include them at this stage in the game.

EDIT: MATTMAN: Looking around, I haven't been able to find Shin Getter manga, and the synopsis for Getter Go from where I got it says that that series had the debut of Shin Getter Robo.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the Shin Getter manga.
