Is the trope being misused?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI'll do a wick check, but regardless, it's silly to use a pre-established term, that's mainstream even, to mean something other than that.
EDIT: Before I check the actual wicks, the related page says this is in 134 pages, with 11 inbounds.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Yeah, the other term is more widespread than the actual trope term. I'd say rename just for that.
somethingCompletely unintuitive use of a common term. I support a rename.
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdSeconded.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.- Adaptation Expansion - Misused for the Saturday Night Live adaptation.
- Adventure Island - Correct
- Airplane Arms - Correct (assuming the rainbow for gives invincibility)
- Amidar - Minor misuse. Making enemies not invincible is not the same as making you invincible.
- Attack Reflector - Used as a game in the Kirby series.
- Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Correct
- Chainmail Bikini - Correct, I guess
- Circling Birdies - Correct
- Collision Damage - Correct
- Combo Platter Powers - Correct
- Desperation Attack - Correct
- Doki Doki Panic - Correct
- Donkey Kong - No context
- Donkey Kong Country - Correct, I guess
- DuckTales - Correct
- Flawless Victory - Correct
- Heel–Face Revolving Door - Correct
- Hero Killer - Correct
- Homing Projectile - Correct, I guess
- How Much More Can He Take? - Correct
Okay, so even though there isn't much misuse, the few that mention outside of video games do misuse it, and there still aren't that many wicks in the first place. That and the inbounds make this an unhealthy trope. And those have been enough reasons to rename before (not that we have to here, just that misuse hasn't been the sole decider for renames).
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Actually, to offer additional comments on the wick check:
- Amidar - I have this game, and it's correct - once you cover the corners, you become temporarily invincible and can defeat the drones by simply touching them. They eventually respawn, and it naturally wears off eventually.
- Attack Reflector - That one was just someone being lazy; I just took care of that.
- Donkey Kong - I can add the appropriate context (when Mario picks up the hammer). It is correct.
- Donkey Kong Country - Correct; I don't think you need to explain beyond which item actually confers the invincibility power.
- Homing Projectile - Not sure if it's actually true, since I haven't played the game, but it is being potholed for the correct concept.
That said, for such an absurdly common video game trope, that's extremely unhealthy. Particularly as the trope, as written, actually covers the "temporarily invulnerable but doesn't give the Touch of Death" variant, found in games like Okami and Secret Of Evermore (to name two games where I abused the everloving hell out of said abilities). I see that Invincibility Power-Up is a redirect; I think a swap to that would be correct.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. And I say Trope Transplant, since even Mario Party uses the term to refer to the winner of the games, which is closer to the pre-established term, in that the winner of a big tournament gains some fame.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. Is the original version of Super Star trope-worthy, though? I don't think it's actually worth noting "this person is really famous and/or good at what they do" as a trope itself (I think that'd be covered by The Ace anyhow).
That said, wouldn't a potential trope to use this name instead be a matter of YKTTW? Shouldn't we just focus on renaming this first and foremost?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Trope Transplants before have let the new tropes go to ykttw.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. In that case, we can take care of that at the end. Let's put the horse before the cart here - should we get a crowner on whether to rename this? We need that before anything else.
Again, for the record, I'm in favor of swapping for the redirect.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster....Wow, I just found this TRS thread and I'm wondering why isn't this Power Star?
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?"power" doesn't mean "temporarily invincible". Neither does "super" for that matter.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.*facepalms*
Right... this should be switched with the redirect...

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianI don't think this trope should keep this name.
Invincibility Star can work as an additional redirect.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. Is there consensus for a rename, or should we make a crowner?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Make a crowner.
This name bothers me because the Mario powerup isn't a "super star", it's a "starman". So what's the deal?
Rhymes with "Protracted."The name is a real-world term that means something completely unrelated to the trope and the so-called trope namer actually calls it "Starman" instead. So yeah, I'm in favor of renaming.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! My vote goes for rename. Co-opting a term that has an extremely widespread Real Life meaning for something else altogether is a practice I'd like to see wiped from the face of the wiki with extreme prejudice.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Shall we get a crowner then? I think this one should be fairly cut and dried (particularly as the redirect is simple and easily understood).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.+1 to switch with the redirect.
Swap with the redirect Invincibility Powerup. I don't know why this isn't already called that.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!Swap.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
No, the trope does not mean being an A-list celebrity. It refers to a Power-Up. That would be fine and dandy, if the other term wasn't more widespread and older than Super Mario Bros.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
