Republic Of Doyle is a Canadian comedy-drama taking place in Newfoundland. As a Canadian, it makes me feel happy to know that Newfoundland is getting some attention on a TV show.

You have Jake Doyle, a Private Investigator who is quite the Casanova. He had an ex-wife named Nikki who has definitely moved on from him by the start of season 2. He's had an on-again, off-again relationship with the cop Leslie, and it looked like he was having something going on with the attorney Allison, but nothing came of it, as the season 2 finale has shown.

Say, would it interest you to know that Russell Crowe made an appearance at the start of season 3? Obviously the guy behind the show must have resources to pull a big-name actor into this.

One trope would definitely sum up the start of season 3, and here it is Status Quo Is God. Jake is a PI again, because that cop who put him on that special task force is a Dirty Cop who has murdered a cop who was married to another cop, as well as murdered a mobster who was going to testify against a lot of mobsters, and tried to pin that crime on Leslie! Talk about a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing!

Oh, and did you think a load of characters were Put on a Bus by the season 2 finale? Well, guess what? Only Tinny and Allison were Put On A Bus. I feel like I've been subjected to a cop-out! If you are going to change the Status Quo, you should go and do it, rather than just make some minor changes and go back to normal on the rest of it!

Leslie lost her job as a police sergeant in season 2 finale, but she has it back by the end of the beginning episode of season 3. However, she is now a Woman Scorned towards Jake. She lost her job in the first place because of Jake and his law-breaking shenanigans! Clearly, Jake is not Easily Forgiven by Leslie. This could complicate things considerably!

Oh, my mistake! Yesterday's episode has The Reveal that Tinny never left for London, England, and it seems she is part of the main cast again! Des might have a complicated situation on his hands! wink

I saw a recent episode of Republic Of Doyle this week. Boy, that episode had so many twists and turns that I could have sworn my head was spinning!

The episode starts off with the death of a Cloud Cuckoolander named Carl Maher. It turns out that he's not so dead, and he's trying to find out who's out to kill him! The people in his life are his wife Olive, his sister Crystal, and his paving company partners Bert and Erin. Bert becomes an Asshole Victim. Crystal turns out to be a thief who steals a good amount of stuff and becomes an apparent Karma Houdini. Erin and Bert were revealed to be stealing from Carl's company, and Erin ends up trying to kill Carl and Olive. Oh, and that boat Carl was on when it exploded? It turns out that he was stoned, performing karate, and hit the wrong part of the boat, causing it to explode! That's right, nobody was trying to kill him at that point!

Then there's Kathleen, Jake's sister, who has been carrying a gun and 3 grams of hash oil in her purse. It turns out that she's been carrying the gun because some guy's been stalking her and it's for her own protection. The hash oil is apparently for glaucoma!

Des, meanwhile, is having a bit of a Love Triangle going on between him, Tinny, and Chandra. I wonder how that's going to turn out!

I can tell you this much: this show has Loads And Loads Of Characters, and it can be so hard to keep track of them all sometimes!

Tee hee, this week's episode sure had a number of things going on.

One big plotline went into the Belligerent Sexual Tension between Jake and Leslie, which also had some Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other.

Both of them find themselves trying to solve a case involving a pair of robbers who happen to be husband and wife! It turns out that The guy of the pair is infertile and his wife wants to have kids. She ends up having sex with a security guard and partner-in-crime named Kenny and gets pregnant from that. She was trying to steal all that money for her husband's fertility treatment so she could trick him into thinking that the child was his! There seemed to be a strong combination of Poor Communication Kills and We Could Have Avoided All This!

Boy, Kathleen sure seems to be Not So Different from her brother Jake in terms of having a hard time cleaning up messes! Her "boyfriend" Eric has been thrown out because he got too drunk and clingy! They do get to the bottom of that whole Kathleen being stalked business, and... it's not the guy stalking her, it's the guy's wife! She's trying to divorce the slimeball, and she blames Kathleen for that apparently! Luckily, they manage to straighten this out.

Jake and Leslie have apparently decided to renew their relationship, but they are supposed to take it slow. I have to say that Jake sure has a Dogged Nice Guy thing going on. I just wish that he wasn't cranking it up to Stalker with a Crush levels!

I caught the season finale last night, and I'm thinking, "Oh My God!"

The Doyles found out who killed Malachy's old partner, but catching the culprit proves to be difficult. Poor Malachy is caught in a Frame-Up over the partner's death.

Jake manages to capture the culprit, but Des Courtney gets shot in the belly in the process. Before that, Jake's beloved 1968 Pontiac GTO is blown to smithereens. Ouch!

Tinny finds out who her father is and a picture of the guy is shown. I'm sitting there, looking and wondering, "Who is this person?"

I was shocked when Des Courtney got shot at the end. I mean, I thought he was annoying and I wished that he would just leave the show, but I didn't think that would happen! I wonder if he's going to die or live?

When I look at the characters Jake and Leslie, I find it hard to decide which one I should be more annoyed with. Jake is, In My Opinion, a Marty Stu at least. I don't say this just because of personal dislike, I say this because his actor Allan Hawco is Co-Creator (with Perry Chafe and Malcolm Mac Rury), exec producer, lead actor, head writer as well as Republic Of Doyle’s Showrunner. That has Wish-Fulfillment and It's All About Me written all over it! sad Leslie is such a Lawful Stupid cop! I mean, yeah, I kinda wish the Doyles would quit breaking laws like bubble wrap, but Leslie does not have to be such a Jerkass in pointing this out! just bugs me
