Wick Migration

Go To

Some tropers (myself included) have been moving works from the Main/ namespace to the appropriate namespace. Unfortunately, some of these moves were done without the wicks being corrected to reflect the new namespaces.

There are more wicks than any one person could handle, so I'm posting here in hopes of getting help. Here is a list of pages that have been moved and need their wicks corrected. (Let me know if you spot any others, and I'll add them to the list.)

EDIT: The list has been moved to Administrivia.Wick Namespace Migration.

Add completed moves in Completed Namespace Migrations.

polutropon was refusing to discuss it with anyone except coders and got the thread locked. If it had stayed open, we might have made some progress.

Thanks, I didn't know about this thread.

@Septimus Heap: Are you a wikipedian? You seem to know a lot about that topic.

Something I thought of, when looking at moving Posleen War Series.

The official series name is Legacy of the Aldenata, but right now that's just a redirect that's not really used anywhere. When moving the 140 wicks currently on PWS, would it be better to use Literature.Legacy Of The Aldenata, with the other made a Literature namespace redirect, or stick with the PWS as the main page, with Literature.Legacy Of The Aldenata as the redirect (current setup, just moved from Main to Literature)?

movie007, nombretomado, Oreochan and Mark Lundo are doing a lot of the work. The troper who started this is no longer here.

I'm still around. I just haven't had much free time recently. (I've still been migrating wicks when I get a chance, but it hasn't been as often as I'd like.)

Hiya!

Last week I promised you that I would clean up wicks for ten works, and now I have fulfilled it - three days before the deadline!

(oreochan did about 100 wicks of KH 2, which I had wanted to do, so I also did the remaining wicks of Strawberry Panic to make the 5000 wicks I had promised too.)

Now let me make a suggestion: I don't know all the works on the list (nobody does), so I prefer caring for the works where there is no ambiguity. Not those where you have to decide whether the example applies for the anime, manga, videogame or whatever.

For the beginning, I want to concentrate on some creators. Here's my new todo list:

Anybody minds? If not, I'm back to work, there's still enough to do.

I've done some of the Night Watch ones, since I've seen the film and read the Discworld novel. They are VERY different in tone and intent, and it's easy to tell the difference most of the time.

(Without knowing these works,) I guess so, but I was talking about the cases where you have to tell the difference between one work and its adaptations. This would be harder, wouldn't it?

[up] Usually pretty easy because a film adaptation of a novel (for example) will have examples from the film in the Film folder and examples from the novel in the Literature folder.

And in all other cases, we should choose the default namespace, as stated here?

BTW, my ten creators are finished. Have to think about what to do next... Dragon Quest V/VII/VIII definitely, but also some more... not sure...

There's a problem with: Darby O Gill And The Little People. It use the Disney/ namespace, but it is a live-action movie. I think the Disney/ namespace is reserved to the animated canon, right? So it should be moved to Film/...

If you've seen any other Disney movie with this problem, please do tell.

Based on the crowner in this thread, I would not rush to do so. There is some consensus that the Disney/ namespace will be somewhat more expansive than animated canon only.

I have one more stupid question: Is it OK if we add works to Administrivia.Completed Namespace Migrations which have never been in Main/? I guess the answer is yes, but I wanted to confirm.

I think, no matter how little wicks there were (even if the work page never was on the Main/ namespace), all completed should probably be listed on the page. I would guess the same would apply to non-work pages that were moved (or created) on another namespace. This, of course, does not include subpages - since nobody sane would ever mistake Main. The Beatles for Awesome. The Beatles.

[up][up][up] Even so, it's not favorable for that, and a while ago I've hollered (seeing as I started it) because the crowner has gone pretty long now.

[up][up]Good luck with that. I've been migrating works since long before I even found this thread, and doubt if I could come up with a list of all the works I've moved even if I wanted to.

I finished Tales Of Symphonia (1400+) and Iji (400+). I'm halfway through Shin Megami Tensei. Rosenkreuzstilette, Megaman Battle Network and Tales Of Vesperia are next.

Just wanted to tell you something: I went through the Animation/ namespace and found some works for the "completed" list.

That's already several dozen, and Animation/ is a small namespace. So I'm asking again: Do we need all of those?

A work with no "main/" namespace or without wicks to start with, we probably wouldn't even have to worry about including to the completed wicks, as there's not really anything to move.

It may get to the point that a split according to namespace on the completed works page would inevitably happen anyhow.

Battle Royale is a redirect to Battle Royale, but since it's relative Battle Royale With Cheese has got some misuse for "big battle", should it be a disambiguation between the related fighting tropes and Battle Royale?(and Battle Royale)

^^ Then I think it'll be better if I only added works above a certain wick threshold. Let's say, 50 wicks.

OK Tropers, now I have to ask you for a little favor.

The thing is: We have an awful lot of work to do - there are ten thousands of works to move, some of them have thousands of wicks to be fixed, and as far as I can see, there are maybe ten people working at this task. This may take years, if not a decade.

But I don't want to complain, because fortunately I have thought up a solution that works. However, I will have to talk with Fast Eddie about some technical details. In fact, I already contacted him, but he seems to be so busy; I didn't get an answer. And then, I only joined this wiki in May.

So I thought: Maybe Eddie would listen if someone else would tell him, who knows him better than I do? Just ask him politely to read the messages I sent him, or to contact me. And that it's about how to fix the hundred thousands of wicks here.

Either tell me here, or send me a private message.

Thanks for listening. Now back to work.

Hey guys, can someone help me with Degrassi? I just created Franchise.Degrassi, and I'm working on Series. The Kids Of Degrassi Street, Series.Degrassi Junior High, Series.Degrassi High and Series.Degrassi. I need a party to help clean the wicks and make sure I created the Franchise page and Series. The Kids Of Degrassi Street correctly. Maybe a couple of Entry Pimps for Series. The Kids Of Degrassi Street as well. Another thing to note is that I've never seen a single episode of any of the Degrassi franchise.

To be quite honest, I don't even think the Franchise/ namespace works that way, especially since they're for works represented in more than one medium, like Star Wars, the Whoniverse and Sonic the Hedgehog for instance. Made-for-TV movies can be a bit of a gray area I'd have to admit...
