Character Development Thread--Discussion

In my experience, the optimal amount is no more than four writers, and no more than six characters per Cast Herd. Four writers can give you a bit more flexibility with the post order without getting too unmanageable. The Desert Trail, Bed and Breakfast, and Ritual Site all have five writers each.

I've also amended the rules folder to mention that it's not recommended to have more than three of your characters in the same Cast Herd. (Only 'not recommended' because if you know what you're doing, you can make it work.)

So for Ruins area, would it be okay to insert a character with ice powers? Kind of wondering if it'll be allowed for her to do anything to the fire being, though either way how difficult would it be to insert a character over there?

Or I could try inserting a rather Body Horrific Cat Boy with Lovecraftian Detachment Combat, Rubber Man, etc abilities all revolving around distorting and remotely manipulating his body. Which, I'll admit, is an underlying ability I've been really wanted to use for a while.

Oh, missed that. Now that she already thinks he's a magic user it shouldn't be a big deal though.

I'd be up for that. You'd have to ask the others about the fire being, but in terms of having a character show up I guess the group could just find them in the tunnels, like with Gwenafer.

Just add a character that is well developed and is willing to work together with the rest of the cast. Although I find the second character idea you mentioned would contrast a lot with the current characters in the Ruins, for good or ill. Not that you should let that stop you, however.

On the burning being, it isn't even made of fire. In fact, it isn't even physical unless it wants to be, and it is waiting for the right time to manifest.

And after it stops being Orcus on His Throne, while ice powers could be useful to limit its damage they probably wouldn't be able to stop it forever.

Regarding Frontier, I don't have much to add since the core of Katya's character is she avoids magic whenever possible and that's all that's been happening.

Honestly, you don't have to, especially if you think it would feel forced. It seemed like you had something planned, and I don't mean to interrupt that.

Wait, you want to join the Ruins group or make a new location? Because in the Ruins we are following a plotline that will keep us there for a while.

EDIT: although if you want to join the Ruins, it may be best to wait for Savlamar to say what she thinks.

EDIT 2: While I do not want to drag this thread back into the TRPG discussion, I must ask: where are you people? Ot has been almost a month without updates on it...

Well I would like to join the Ruins area since you said Jake would contrast a lot with the characters there, so sounds like Development to me. Though I would like to introduce a new Location eventually if possible, I certainly wouldn't force it.

And about what I said in my previous post, I now think you can post now or tomorrow if you don't feel like waiting too long for Savlamar's thoughts about a new character turning up.

She is a published author, and it may take some time for her to check things here, but I don't think she would oppose a new character in our group, as long as you can reliably post every week.

Well I'll read through the 22 pages in the meantime then, and if she hasn't made a comment when I'm done I'll get to work on my post. Though I can put Jake somewhere else if I have to- I may not be published (mainly because no ins), but I understand how important Story is.

No need to read throught all pages. The last five or six should be more than enough for you to know what all active groups are doing.

You also don't need to wait for Savlamar's opinion. It would be more polite to do so, but you shouldn't let it stop you from entering the group that you think would help you develop your character best.

Well actually I meant more helping the others develop their characters further, cause if Jake is such a contrast surely that'll provoke some interesting reactions & train of thoughts right? Either way I'm able to roll with just about anything.

Though regarding pages, I'm genuinely intrigued by the events that the Tropes Page mention and 22 pages isn't that much to get through. Be another story if it was a 100 or more.

I've decided to delay posting until tomorrow. I need to go to bed early tonight, and I'm sort of stressed about it.

Hmm... I'm considering instead starting off at Misery Manor, since I've been thinking a lot about Jake's past- That, and with the rather massive posts, I want to make sure I'm able to do enough with each post.

So, any suggestions on how I should place Jake at Misery Manor? I imagine his Introduction would have him looking back at the lab he was experimented on, and then briefly running away from a monstrosity called The Spatial Render.

Though, do I have to start off getting involved with someone else? I feel like things would be better if one of the other characters noticed Jake first instead of the inverse...

@Gault: (smiles widely) Ah yes, I do have a nasty habit of putting ideas into people's heads. But I accept new ideas. Makes things more interesting. To be fair, I didn't expect Gabe to come into the picture with Misery Manor either - I had put Sinistrina there just as a placeholder of sorts because Yamiko and especially Gon would be expecting to see her there (all three of them came from Mystrica). Then Gabe came along and I took that as an opportunity to expand on Sinistrina's character - fortunately I had come up with another story idea earlier that detailed the backstory between her and Lucina, so it ultimately does serve a purpose. So by all means, let us investigate that odd mechanical sound further.

@Corvidae: Gothenburg... If it doesn't exist in the real world or your fictional universe, I believe I may have been there myself. And to think, I thought that dark cathedral I had erected (or discovered?) was in Wonderland at first...

Well, I meant to post with Ashleigh and Phoebe, but that of course was interrupted by a sudden interest with the events at Misery Manor. I'll have to do yet another rain check on that one... which I know I'm pressured to do soon since I kinda want to give Half a shot at Misery Manor before anything too major happens there.

And I'm still waiting on Gameknight and Mr. Ship in Dream II for their reactions to Gon, and Tehpillowstar in Frontier since Vicky asked Hazel about feeding the undead donkey.

It's a real place, actually. (Anglicized spelling of Göteborg.) Me and the family visited the local amusement park, which has gotten a cool, vaguely steampunk-ish makeover recently.
