Looking at related tropes, Power Creep, Power Seep fits good as well.

In other news, why did this thread take so long to get to page 2?

Because not as many people do OC related shenanigans than other things?

It could also be that people are generally less eager to discuss one another's characters.

Also, to answer Clarste's question he asked 20 days ago, I purposely gave her an Engrish name. I tried to make her like a foriegner trying to act cool and failing horribly.

Like I said, gonna rewrite up those profiles to add more details

It's probably my own fault for not moving things forward and giving people things to talk about.

[up] Remember not to make them too long. In fact, I should probably trim my Thunderbird write-up a bit.

I'll throw around my own interests later.

Hey guise, I just now realised that it's later. Please enjoy Xion's OC analyses!

Ayumu: I just realised that this character is reliant on a character that hasn't appeared in this thread yet. You should probably move over the write-up for Adela ASAP. I'll give it... 2 interests.

Masha: I have to say, I never fully read Shenanigans, or even got to the part where Masha is "born", even, so this is going to be all new to me. I'd probably toss in 3 interests, but Masha already won by a cozy margin, rendering my gesture irrelevant.

Shujiko: I'm just now realising that we have people who can japaneese competently, which will help with naming. Anyways, the character. Has her depression sapped her wil, taking away her power? anyways, I can't say I'm very interested in this toon at all, despite my question.

Bruce: Hoo boy... This is obviously an expy of the character from Finding Nemo, to the point of being kind of jarring.

Lalia: Was the random swear really necessary? However, the caracter is kind of cool, if a bit ridiculous. 1 interest.

Padre: Guards a graveyard, has the power to control corpses... wonder how he'd interact with Yoshika. Your best concept by a sizable margin, but is very... gruesome, which clashes with the tone of Touhou Project.

Hikari: I can't help but compare her to Shujiko, who is her complete opposite in demeanor. I like this one a lot better, and the idea of a tropical level sounds fun. 4 interests.

Suketchi/Kyuuki: A wild hipster appears. I have to say, the idea of a muse sounds fun, and Kyuuki looks cute. I give 2 interests to Suketchi, and 4 to Kyuuki.

I'm honestly not sure wether to count Suketchi and Kyuuki as seperate or together. I mean, they are the same person, but Suketchi is just an alias that acts so different from her true self that her power's been weakened to like, Cirno levels.

If Dr Seuss was a troper, he'd make an article called Power Creep Power Sneep. THERE I SAID IT.

Masha Kinoko (Official Profile)

I'll admit that this is mostly not stuff that's been shown directly in Touhou Nekokayou, or at least not in its entirety, because this is based on the future-version, who has had precisely one official appearance so far. (Well, unless you count that one Time Paradox'd single-frame "flash forward in blue sepia," but you don't actually get to see personality there.)

Species: Mushroom Youkai; specifically born from a magical variant of fly agaric known for its explosive properties.

Age: 44 (as of the "Fate of 60 Years" timeline, which takes place 59 years after PoFV, but the concept can be easily adapted outside the continuity of Touhou Nekokayou)

Appearance: Red hair with a braid in back; wears a mushroom cap (resembling fly agaric, i.e. red with white spots), a white shirt with a pink bow, a red vest, and a red skirt with white spots and a part on one side.

Abilities: In addition to the standard "fly, danmaku, bicker" abilities that all residents of Gensokyo, her particular ability is the manipulation of fungus. In practice, this means she can instantly grow any kind of non-magical mushroom (magical ones are simply beyond her capabilities), which she then usually sells i.e. as ingredients. She can also create short-lived copies of herself as a form of "danmaku." She's been at the level of a Stage 3 Boss all her life, but she's got enough skill that she can defeat the likes of Utsuho on somewhat rare occasions; theoretically, she's player-character material, given the right motivation and circumstances. Her Spell Cards, naturally, are all mushroom-themed.

Personality: A bit whimsical and carefree, though she does generally try to be more responsible than those around her. (Since "those around her" includes Marisa and Cirno, this isn't particularly difficult.) Regardless, Masha takes friendships very seriously.

She has very little tolerance for what she considers "stupidity," and has no qualms about helping people trip themselves up with their own foolishness (usually in an "I didn't make a fool out of her, she made a fool out of herself! I just helped!" sort of way, but she isn't picky). Not even her friends are immune to this. Her ultimate goal, though, is always to get them to learn from their foolishness, rather than just punish the symptoms.

Masha also has extremely violent reactions to being surprised; she owes this to being set upon by Yukari and Mima when she was less than even a day old. Surprise-attacks are pretty much doomed to fail.

Associated Tropes A Friend in Need; Berserk Button/Disproportionate Retribution (surprise!); Doppelgänger Attack; Fan Nickname ("Moeshroom" for her younger form); Magic Mushroom (the "Unstable Fly Agaric" mushroom-species she was born from, or as Marisa calls it, the "Fantastically Adequate Red Explosion Shroom"); Moe Anthropomorphism; Karmic Trickster (sometimes of the Heroic Neutral/Karmic Protection variety, but not always — this is Touhou, after all — but always trying to teach An Aesop); The Power of Friendship; Stuff Blowing Up (some of the Spell Cards in which she tries to go back to her mycelia) ... am I missing anything important?

I wonder if anyone's made her spellcards in Danmakufu.

Speaking of which, could we get a list of her spellcards in here?

Sure! Here's the ones that were named in CSA, not quite in order of introduction:

  • Detonation Sign "Mushroom Kingdom": ring of exploding mushrooms, kinda like SA's version of Alice's "Return Inanimateness."
  • Spore Sign "The Coming Of Early Spring": Multiple spirals of red oblong bullets, rotating in opposite direction, plus one aimed set of big purple ring/bubble thingies.
  • Fungi Sign "Creeping Mycelium": Double spiral of round bullets, plus two waves of sweeping mushroom-bullets sweeping towards the target.
  • Spore Sign "Hallucinogenic Rave": Multiple streams of oblong bullets cycling through the colors of the rainbow, half of them flying towards her and half of them flying away. Also, rings of greenish arrowheads.
  • Fungus Sign "Spore Print": Lots of "mushroom lasers" sent in all directions, accompanied by miniature spore-like bullets.
  • Summon Sign "Fairy Ring": Masha shoots out rings of mushroom-bullets, while fairies orbit around her and launch waves of blue arrowheads.

And, created just for this post:

  • Named but not actually described: Fungus Sign "Universal Veil": A timeout card. She is surrounded by a "veil" of fungus, and shoots out a tight spiral of small white bullets, plus rings of mushroom-bullets shooting outward.
  • Suggested by the narration but neither named nor described: Mushroom Sign "Double Growth": Two Mashas, orbiting clockwise around the center; the one that starts on the left shoots a spiral of oblong bullets clockwise, and the one on the right shoots a spiral moving counterclockwise, each of them also firing a wave of mushroom-bullets. The real Masha (chosen at random at the beginning of the card) periodically also fires an aimed ring of yellow oblong bullets.

I can Japanese competently? Huh, I just looked up a meaningful word in an online translator (Or as close to the original meaning as I could without having to change it altogether) and added 'ko' for a more feminine sound.

Character wise, her strength hasn't been sapped, she just doesn't really bother trying unless she finds someone particularly powerful. So, even if you coax her to fight, you'll need to unleash a powerful spell or two before Shujiko decides to fight seriously. Well, she would need to recover from any injuries first, but at least she would have a goal.

@Muffin She can make a temporary cloen of herself?

THAT explains one of the potnetial results for the RPG.

...also, I for one would REALLY want to see her in a danmakufu script (and someone good enough could make a playable version of her... Speaking of which, I just made these mushroom bullets in case anyone DOES try to put her in a script

I'd like to mess around with danmakufu, but it's in Japanese... and I probably wouldn't understand it anyway, but still.

I will now attempt to think of something meaningful to contribute to Masha discussion.

Hey guys...

Sorry about leaving you out to dry. I want to say stuff came up, but that'd be a bit of a lie. Stuff only has been up the past month and I have little in the way of a legitimate excuse for my exceedingly rude absence. At first I was just having trouble writing, then I forgot for a while, but when I remembered...I dunno...it felt too bad to just come in and act like nothing had happened, it would be in bad taste.

So...after a while, I just kind of hid, and now I decided to check up on it, and it seems to be still going. So, uh, I decided to own up to being the most colossal of dicks, throw myself up and wonder if maybe you'd be fine if I came back? I still need to catch up, ye gods do I need to catch up, but still.

Ehehe...thanks.

Well, before I do absolutely anything regarding myself, I should do some Interests. I'll start from Xion, since he's first on this list, and go down.

Xion:

Jol'Bihro is a character introduced many times into this system. Honestly, though, I'm just...not feelin' him. Happens I guess. I can't quite place my finger on it, but he just seems...I dunno...off somehow. I'll also admit that the last part about tutoring Reimu makes me uneasy, though I'd need more info to make any informed descision, heh. 0 Interest points given.

Saigora...not much information here. I think she might of been shown off once in the last topic, but I forgot?

Either way, she seems interesting. She has a kickass title and that is something I always admire, I really like it, and the idea of a Stage 5 with their own agenda is something I like. It's nearly unique in terms of Touhou, yet seems as if it could seamlessly be fixtured in. I'm waffling on to give 2 or 3 Interest, but in the end, I think that I'll put in 3.

Thunderbird...shrug. Everyone loves a Large Ham, the title is pretty nice and the quote is amusing, but...I dunno. I can't honestly say I'm very interested in him. I also waffled here on what to give for Interest: 1 or 0. I think that he ties up juuuust enough of my Interest that, hey, he can have 1 Interest.

Kyler:

Only one person here. Makes it a lot easier, heh. Ayumu looks like a charming little character, connections to another OC I liked in Adela are nice, but one thing that draws me to her is the power of misdirection. That sounds like a really cool power and one I've thought is always neat. A personal quarrel with Chen? +2 Interest to you.

Muffin:

Nothing to Interest here, but I just wanted to say SQUEE.

Roxas:

So here we have Shujiko Ishi. Nice name, that much is sure at least. However, she doesn't really interest me. The title is quite bland, though informative, the power is okay, but...I dunno. There just isn't anything that jumps out at me and makes me say "I wanna see more". 0 Interest.

Jackerel:

Oh mai, somebody I don't know. And with an amusing name, to boot.

Bruce...nah. Not feelin' it. Somebody who controls hunger popping up at the same time as Ten Desires, given Miyako's ability, seems a bit unfortunate, but while the idea of somebody having trouble writing up Spellcards or something similar seems amusing to me, the way it's presented seems as if it would not mesh well into the setting. And after that, eh, nothing to catch my interest. So 0 here.

Lalia...eh, not sure what to say. I get the feeling I'm missing something. Didn't inspire a lot of Interest, but I can't say exactly why. 0 Interest.

Padre. Eh, I'll keep this one short: Simply doesn't fit into Touhou, IMHO. 0 Interest.

Stardf29:

Ooooh, this is a character I like. The title isn't spectacular, but it's suitable enough to work. Power isn't super new, but it has shenanigans written all over it. She has a cheery disposition and takes care of rain fairies, I dunno...it seems to me as if she is an awesome character for more slice of life style of Touhou stuff and fits well into the setting. I'm going to give you a 4 Interest boost.

Metaflare:

Hehe, Sketch...I like this one too. She's basically a combination of a loner, a hipster and a starving artist, heh. There had better be at least one doujin cheering her to try hard...at being a prick. To everyone. I'll give 3 Interest here.

Kyuuki is basically an extension of Sketch's entry. The form here doesn't interest me as much as the initial cool of Sketch and I don't feel much of a reason to want this, though the relation to Sketch makes me wanna see this at least some...1 Interest.

Unrelated to that, I think a small modifier should be added to the rules. If your Interest on a character is under X for, oh, let's say 3 or 4 entries, you should be allowed to take them down and put up a new one. That is, unless you can take them down at any time...though if that's the case the 3 limit doesn't do too much at all, heh.

Do POCC works need to follow any certain format when posted? Can it include a list of characters planned or something? If you don't get entirely what I mean, I have like, an example I can PM you Xion...

Can Ayu still be put up? And, for that matter, does anyone even wanna see her put up? I can't imagine much interest for her left...

(Now to sleep after staying up practically 2 days in a row because I had to not sleep for E3, heh).

Momoi Ayumi - The Great Huntress

"One game, one bullet."

A strange woman from another dimension. Not the Outside, not the Moon... but, anyway. Tall, a swimmer's build, extremely long blue hair (even when tied up and stuffed under her pith helmet). She's apparently quiet and reserved, but after a few seconds of conversation, will begin to warm up nicely. People who talk with her long enough find her lively and rather intelligent, if somewhat lacking in wittiness itself.

Carries a gigantic rifle that she uses to hunt dangerous game in Gensokyo. The kappa estimate it's more advanced than the Lunarian tech they've been analyzing, and uses a giant caliber. It's a miracle she doesn't dislocate her shoulder every time she fires it. She tends to hunt down animals that have caused fatalities amongst youkai and/or humans. She will, for a small price, be perfectly willing to assassinate dangerous criminals or youkai that actually eat humans - which, for Gensokyo, are both rather rare.

Has completely refused to play by regular spellcard rules: instead of the usual fire-and-dodge More Dakka spread in beautiful patterns, utilized by the rest of Gensokyo, she, in her own words, prefers "simple, fast beauty". firing one massive-but-beautiful bullet from her rifle, requiring more reflexes to dodge than luck.

One of the few who talks to both humans and youkai. Attempts to mock racists from either species.

[up] Sounds like she'd get on VERY well with Byakuren then. And I'm assuming that the refusal to go with the spellcard rules to some extent only extends to what she fires - as in, it's still non-lethal...

Shrug. It's a concept that could work but did not appeal to me as presented.

POCC Works aren't something you submit to. They're solely managed by me, as a way to sort characters. A new POCC work will be put up if a lot of characters are part of an internal canon that has no other documentation, and a lot of people are talking about that internal canon.
