This thread is to request that a locked article be unlocked. Please read the guidelines below before making a request.
- Please see Locked Pages and Permanent Redlink Club first. If an article is on the Permanent Redlink Club, it will not be unlocked, ever.
- Pages cut a while ago were automatically locked. Before asking for an unlock, make sure that the article you want to create is in the proper Namespace, has gone through YKTTW if it's a trope, and otherwise fulfills our guidelines for Creating New Pages.
- If you just want to make an edit to an article, post here instead.
- Don't ask for new Main redirects. Those are only for old articles with lots of existing inbounds.
Original post
I'll start it off: could someone please unlock Hootie And The Blowfish so I can make a new page on it? The last page was cut for being copypasta from Wikipedia.

Well, for an example of why the page needs to be up to date that's directly relevant to why the page even exists, the part in the intro about satirical portrayals is woefully out of date, only good to about halfway through the healthcare bill debate (is that when the page got locked?). Running into Magical Negro hasn't been a problem for years. Most satire I see now concerns frustration with his policies/ difficulties in reaching them. (I'm not qualified to analyze any satire from the other side of things, since I likely only see satire of that satire.)
And that's only one issue with the intro (the 'he's not dead' thing is also out of date, etc.), I'm not getting into the tropes or works. Short of copying the source and submitting a new version, the overhaul will never come. I care about this and I don't want to put in that much effort without being able to press the save key, or go back and find any typos, or do it in blocks so errors can be found. Neither are any people with locked page access (since they haven't done it) and neither are any other tropers. It's too much of a barrier for anything but editing or adding one example at a time. I'm sure there's some tool that can check the editing activity against locked periods and see low little the character count moves around that will show how poor a substitute that method is for a page on an active subject.
But if the page really is being held in indefinite detention, (never ever being unlocked) and no points against that, however possibly valid, will be acknowledged or answered, then the locked page note should be changed to make that clear. Not "This has been drawing heat... again. Cautionary lock until the political rhetoric season is over," but "Permanent lock as flammable material."

I rarely visit the forums to avoid the cynicism ooze. The page has very little relevance to our mission of collecting tropes used in fiction. Half the information there (and on many similar pages) should probably be cut in any case. I don't think it's critical to have it up-to-date—anyone who wants up-to-date info is probably better off going to the Other Wiki or Google News or something similar.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.I'm referring to the admin note in the intro (although that's also written as if the page is editable) and statements on the talk page when talking about relevance.
I agree that part of the rewriting that needs to be done is trimming a significant amount of fat and cruft.
You seem to be under the impression that I want an abbreviated retelling of events, constantly updated to include recent ones. That's not it at all. I'll probably screw up trying to say it straight so by analogy, think of a tv series — we're in the fourth season, and the page is still mostly about the first season and the buzz leading up to it. The last three seasons have changed the main character significantly, both in show and in the public mind, and that's what the page should be including.
Considering all the options for the page, the one most likely to restore it to health is allowing editing again. Leaving it locked on life support with halfhearted nurses is the worst option to me. Cutting trope examples(and restoring editing so the intro and media examples can be maintained) or even the page altogether are annoying but acceptable, since at least the rot would be gone.

I rarely visit the forums to avoid the cynicism ooze.Let's put it this way: In these times, political discourse is far too heated for the page to be unlocked without someone constantly hovering over it.
That locked pages tend to fall back in time is a common problem and the only way to fix it would to create a sort of semi-lock system as was proposed in Tech Wishlist. This could also help fixing some pages that can't be locked but have issues with newbies editing them.
"The page not needing updates" is a patently false statement - popculture and media significance change over time, especially now in the Internet age, but it's less relevant than the political issues.
So, the summary is: Barack Obama will have to stay locked, but the "not needing updates" stuff is neither true nor relevant.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYog Sothoth Says was just cut and locked as a result of this TRS thread. Given that it has inbounds, might it be possible for a moderator to turn it into a redirect to Compelling Voice?
Requesting an Unlock for Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt; since so much time has past since the original Sub aired I think mass vandalism is non-issue, and new information is coming out from the Dub that could be added to the page.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I believe it's already been stated (edit: here) that the lock will be reconsidered when the dub has come out, but not before. It's a general rule of this thread that pages don't get unlocked because somebody might have something to add at some point in the future, only when there's a present need.

I know it have been brought before, but can Fate Stay Night be unlock now? The P5 already deemed it to be okay, and I don't believe it was causing problems before. It should be safe to restore it, I think.
I unlocked Fate/stay night and Fate/hollow ataraxia. I wanted them to stay locked for a bit because emotions were running high and I thought they'd be likely vandalism targets, but now that P5 has settled down, it's probably safe to open them up to general editing.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I question the need to keep this thread locked though. The mass Wiki Vandalism has passed as interest in the show has simmered down. And it's not much more offensive than any AS Cartoon that currently remains unlocked. So I don't see it as fair to keep this show locked.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them. Why was the Pokemon 2000 page locked? And would it be possible to get it unlocked and restored? Someone seems to have deleted it before locking.
I suspect you're looking in the wrong namespace. The actual Pokémon 2000 page is not locked.

Also the first two episodes of the Dub have been released to Funi Subscribers, so it could be updated with new information. It's not something I'm gonna throw a fit over, I'd just like to see the page reopen.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Could we get Film.Toy Story (cutlisted&cut) made as a redirect to WesternAnimation.Toy Story? There are sixteen inbounds, and I thought that we try not to kill pages with more than ten.
Same with Film.Cars to WesternAnimation.Cars (21 inbounds).
Apologies if this belongs in Edit a Locked page instead.

It does, actually. You can just repost there.

It's not very clear where something like this should go, seeing as though it could easily been seen as belonging in either place... Very well, I'll take it there.
Is there any real reason why All Anime Is Naughty Tentacles is still locked?
Probably because it was cut originally, then restored. Generally speaking, the mods have been keeping restored pages locked for a couple of weeks in order to prevent boiled-over tensions leading to vandalism.
With that said, it can probably be unlocked now that the panel is up and running and people are for the most part accepting of the results. (If unlocked, I'll take care to watch it for vandals.)
This was to be a disambiguation page, yet somehow it's been cut.
EDIT: Actually, on second thought don't unlock this. The Ambiguity entry has been moved to the Franchise namespace.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.Kinda of a delayed reaction, but thanks a bunch, ccoa.
Sorry if this already have been up here before, but I noticed that some works pages have been locked after they were moved to proper namespace or without any reson stated:
- Otoko no Ko wa Meido Fuku ga Osuki!?
- Manga/Chu-Bra
- Eiken
- Boku No Pico
- Aki Sora
I am aware that the two later contains some porn while the others are sometimes ecchi. But it doesn't stand anywhere, if that is the problem, or it's just a fail or mistake.
English is an international language, but it doesn't mean that everyone speak it on a daily basis. These sound like stuff nuked in the cleanse. They aren't getting unlocked unless the P5 accepts the appeal and for only one of them I know (BNP) it ain't happening.

Well, if works with porn/ecchi in generel or just with under-age characters is a problem, then it would be nice, if it was mentioned on Locked Pages. A page with just a simple lock on don't explain anything.
Personally however I think it's an overreaction with the ecchi stuff. But that's just my opinion, not something that should be dicussed here.
English is an international language, but it doesn't mean that everyone speak it on a daily basis.Yes, there is a whole "Content Violations Discussion" subforum, go there.
I question the value of having an "up to date" trope page on any real person. That said, we are not unlocking the page and that's final. Suggest changes in the proper thread.
