Doraemon is coming to America! Granted, it's a dub on Disney XD (possibly of the 2005 anime) with name changes similar to the English translation of the manga with some content cut out to match American standards, but it's a start.

You'd think they'd learn after 4Kids.
On one hand: YES. About fucking time. On the other hand: looks like Disney's going to take the 4Kids route... -sigh-
I dunno if this is gonna soothe anyone, but...
There's still the matter of yens becoming dollars and chopsticks becoming forks so yeeeah not really changing anyone's minds.
Between the gazillions of Doraemon episodes, did they REALLY have to choose the ones they felt had to be edited for a 26 episodes run? Really?
Why won't anyone Think of the Children!?
Yeah, that still doesn't all the blatant shameless appropriation. I thought that practice has left with 4Kids.
Dunno whether me being unable to unhear Terriermon is a good or bad thing. JYB also confirmed he's playing Nobita.
The dub starts airing July 7th.
Count me out. I 'like to keep my Anime and Mouse house as far away from each other as humanly possible, BECAUSE THEN YOU GET SHIT LIKE Kingdom Hearts... WITH FUCKIN' CARDS!
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceI like Doraemon because it's a unique idea and my favourite characters are Shizuka and Gian. I also like the inventions Doraemon come up with every chapter
In an anime, I'll be the Tsundere Dark Magical Girl who likes purple MY own profile is actually HERE!Johnny Yong Bosch confirmed as the voice of Noby (Nobita)

Here's the rest of the main cast...
Shizuka/Sue: Cassandra Lee
Gian/Big G: Kaiji Tang (who apparently grew up watching the show!)
Suneo/Sneech: Brian Beacock

So we have Vash the Stampede, Kyubey the contract maker, Republican Double, and Agumon as the supporting cast…and Sheila Broflovski in the main role…
Oookay…to be fair, this does sound like a promising cast…
Seriously, I'm not the only one who didn't see JYB coming for this dub, am I? Or any of the other cast members for that matter?

On the one hand, I really don't like that they saw the 'necessity' to make changes. Are we telling kids that other cultures are not okay? Are we telling kids that crying and dolls are not okay? Rather than change things that don't need to be changed, they should really just keep everything intact, and instead help these kids get exposed to cultures other than their own.
And incidentally, I found this:
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm staying away from the 2020 olympics.

I think it's just a Viewers Are Morons thing, rather than anything xenophobic. "Oh, well, they won't understand it if we leave the show like it is."
That would probably only fool the 2 yr old demographic mostly, which is still not cool because they are getting wiser(depending on the kind of education you give them) to understanding the world, or the profoundly naive, which is even more rare since you can go to any chinese restruant and learn what a fucking chopstick is!
Basically, the fact that Disney would do this proves they have no faith in the intelegence of their audiance. At least Nick's dub of Xros wars was more faithful to the original.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceMy main problem with their reasoning is Doraemon has like one million episodes by now. I have watched dozens of episodes that don't have Naked Shizuka, or Japanese dishes, or Tanabata. I've seen dozens of episodes that could perfectly pass as Western animation stories if not because of the art style. Since they are cherry picking anyway, why do they have to choose episodes they feel they have to alter? Why?
Troll logic: "Hey! Let's use the episodes that feature more Japanesse culture and suggestive material that anyone over 13 can look up online, but 5-yr-olds can't! HAHAHAHA!"
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceYeah, that's obviously the reason Dora the explorer talks only in English and never teaches our youth about Mexican cultures and traditions!
Oh wait!
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceAnd that just makes you wonder why they're changing anything with Doraemon to begin with.
Because Disney is an asshole. In fact, this is probably the same thing they tried to do when they had the English dub to Digimon. Oh, all those bad puns.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceCitramon wasn't THAT bad, guys — chances are that edit would've been made no matter what channel it was on. Censors have gotten tight since Fox fell asleep at the wheel during Digimon Tamers's broadcast.

Come on, how strong were those episodes?

Since my first Doraemon thread got deleted, I am making another one.
So, from what I know, Doraemon is clearly not very popular in the West. What a shame.
