Planar Shockwave- the rig of energy is actually a lethal weapon. It will contiue to expand, destroying anything in its' path, until it reaches the edge of the universe, else it'll keep expanding. Forever.
There are too many toasters in my chimney! No Immortal Inertia- Shyanna is five hundred years old, the only thing keeping her from looking it is her magical amulet. When that is knocked off, she instantly ages hundreds of years over a short period of time, having her skin melt off and bones disintergrate until she is only a pile of dust. The worst part? She's somehow still alive.
It Was a Gift: The fact that Hiro's sword was a gift does not necessarily make it any better in quality, and his career as an adventurer would be greatly help if he would forgo sentimentality and buy a better one.

Medium Awareness: Bob knows he's in a story and he exploits that. But he also lives in constant fear of his fate being in the hands of a writer. At any tme he could be the victim of a sudden drop in inteligence or a startling twist that couldn't possibly be predicted.
Oh, I'm sorry. I cheated. I picked this trope myself.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianDeconstruction - Instead of making things grimdark for the sake of grimdark, the author just considers how the trope would function without the plot propping it up on stilts. Or rather the author deconstructs a trope unintentionally in the course of telling the story, instead of seeking to deconstruct a trope because it is the cool thing to do.
......what.
One. There is no way you were lucky enough to get Deconstruction randomly to deconstruct.
Two. Deconstruction never meant "make things grimdark". It sounds more like a Reconstruction or just playing it straight.
If pepole think Deconstruction means "make things grimdark" it would be an Unbuilt Trope. Which makes my head hurt.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianEarly-Bird Boss: The protagonist, exhausted physically and mentally from fighting a creature he barely had the resources and the will to defeat so early on in his quest, begins to question the viability of continuing. This shatters his morale and weakens his resolve as he wearily struggles forward.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.I think that's the point that he's trying to make, actually — that too many people think that a Deconstruction has to be Grimdark.
Also, Unbuilt Trope applies more when the trope is explored before it becomes an actual trope — sort of the trope analog for Flanderization, where the people who come afterward take the "cool idea" and run with it without really caring for the nuts and bolts of how it works.
Why should this not be in Forum Games, since it's a game?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Skeletons in the Coat Closet -Bob, wears skulls and other bones as adornment so that people will leave him alone, but he is just viewed as the local goth kid and actually gets more attention and even admires causing him even more grief. So he stops wearing them and just dresses like everyone else.
Reconstructed- Bob, Decides instead to embrace the peoples interest and actually begins to make friends.

"Every anime character is bisexual until proven otherwise." - A comment a found on youtube. But what he/she described was not a deconstruction of Deconstruction. Do we agree on that?
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianThe Illegible: Dave's awful handwriting is actually due to nerve damage in his dominant hand.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."And neither were most of the examples here. You lot were just taking a trope and dialing up the grimdark.
I Broke a Nail - Jane, after a major fight, grumps about breaking a nail. Others accuse her of being shallow and concerned with her appearance. She then systematically breaks all her other nails while explaining that due to Super OCD, she can't handle the lack of symmetry of a broken nail.
If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.Soapbox Square: Sadie has all of her demonstrations and rallies at the local theatre. However, due extremely picky views of what exactly needs to be changed in the world, along with her strict opinion of how they should change it, people stop coming.
Fair enough.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova Scotian@ Madrugada I've been wondering a similar question, "How does this thread help the writer?"
I've been reading this thread since it was first made, and thus far I got nothing that could answer that question.

Has ADD, plays World of Tanks, thinks up crazy ideas like children making spaceships for Hitler. Occasionally writes them down.Yeah this should be in Forum Games really.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars. It Got Worse
I am not sur eif it is possible and I am not sur eif this counts but the Hero and his Nakama plan a strategy to raid the fortress to free their friend. It was a perfect plan on paper but no plan survives contact with the enemy not to mention thatt the enemy is just as prepared to counter the heroes. Just when you thought things would go smoothly, the Nakama gets killed off left and right, their plans begin failing at the worse possible moment and just when they finally find the Big Bad, the villain killed their comrade anyway. Ddin't I mention that their comrade had the Macguffin? And that the villain plans succeeded anyway despite the Screw Destiny attitude witht heroes?
I'm moving this to Forum Games. It really fits better there.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Home-Run Hitter: Nara has caught Taro in an apparent act of perversion. In retaliation, Nara arms herself with a baseball bat and knocks Taro into the lower stratosphere. The force of the blow has splintered the baseball bat and pulverized all the bones in Taro's ribcage, killing him instantly. By the time the misunderstanding is revealed, Taro's corpse is miles away and Nara is in critical condition from all the wooden sharpnel.
In response to Alkthash's criticism, I would like to point out that applying Fridge Logic to a trope, the essence of deconstruction, often produces results one could consider "grimdark" due to Fridge Horror. The above is an example of just that.

Okay, so here's how this works. Open a new tab and go to tvtropes. Then click the 'random' button. learn about said trope, and find a way to deconstruct it.Mine was:
