Mega Pokémon Battle Royale is the 4th entry of Pokemon Battle Royale collaborated by Jeremy Chinshue and Lockstin from Gnoggin. Simulating Earth once again, it sends out all Pokémon that are capable of Mega-Evolving, then simulates a meteor containing all Mega Stones.

The battle is preceded by Baby Pokémon Battle Royale and followed by Gigantamax Pokémon Battle Royale.

You can watch the video here, and Lockstin's commentary here.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Rayquaza is depicted in Pokémon canon as the Token Good Teammate alongside Groudon and Kyogre who seeks to keep their Yin-Yang Clash from harming the world and humanity at large. Here, it vainly tries to stop the Mega Stones from reaching the other Pokémon; yet it swallows its own Mega Stone to Mega Evolve itself. Downplayed in that it waits out most of the fighting while its tea party remains.
  • Anti-Climax: How the animation ends: Just as the rest of the Megas team up to try to take down Mega Rayquaza, the latter simply kills them all via a Tail Slap.
  • Beam Spam: Mega Gyarados fires several Hyper Beams at Mega Sharpedo. All of them miss until Mega Sharpedo coughs teeth into its face; Gyarados gets even angrier, and its next Hyper Beam disintegrates Mega Sharpedo.
  • Berserk Button: Mega Heracross inadvertently ending Mega Rayquaza's tea party early is what drives it to go down to Earth and give the remaining Mega Pokémon a royal beating.
  • Blown Across the Room:
    • A well-timed Psychic attack from Mega Alakazam blows Mega Gengar across several buildings.
    • Mewtwo tries to damage Mega Tyrantar by psychokinetic force in Mega Y form, going as far as to crash it into several buildings.
  • Body Horror: As described in Pokémon Sun and Moon's Pokédex entries, many Pokémon that Mega Evolve undergo this, if not experiencing mental trauma and going berserk.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Using its ultimate attack causes Mega Diancie to revert to its normal form.
  • Call-Back:
    • Latios and Latias are sent out of their Pokéballs in the same way and place as in Legendary & Mythical Pokémon Battle Royale. The only differences are that they're in a different part of the city and Latias is in a Repeat Ball this time as opposed to an Ultra Ball.
    • While facing an enraged Mega Camerupt, Mega Metagross remembers the first royale where it tried attacking Camerupt through its Eruption attack and ended up melting.
  • The Cameo: Palmon from Digimon makes a brief appearance beside Metagross when three lines of Pokemon get their Mega Evolutions, pretty much a joke to how Digimon coined "Mega Evolution" first.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Mega Rayquaza inflicts this on the remaining fighters to win; Lockstin even points out in his explanation video that due to Rayquaza's abilities even without its Mega form taken into account, this was the most realistic outcome for the battle royale to play out.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Mega Rayquaza spends most of the battle eating a Mega Stone-infused asteroid outside the atmosphere until near the finale, where Mega Heracross throws a pile of Mega Tyranitar, Mega Aggron, Mega Steelix, and Mega Mewtwo Y to outer space, taking out the aforementioned asteroid, enraging the Mega Rayquaza enough to make it descend to the Earth. According to Lockstin's commentary, it was made with this trope in mind.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?:
    • Mega Salamence adds Mega Latias and Latios to its rage-filled killstreak by slicing them in the air.
    • Mega Heracross takes out Mega Mewtwo by launching it with Mega Tyranitar, Aggron, and Steelix into space, likely one of the few ways that the psychic lifeform (and Tyranitar) was going to be taken out.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Ultra Beasts make an appearance when Mega Gengar sends Mega Aerodactyl to Ultra Space, before they would later be the focus of their own battle royale.
  • Eat Dirt, Cheap: The mega evolutions are kicked off by Rayquaza eating a giant meteor riddled with mega stones and the "crumbs" raining down on the pokemon below. Diancie is shown having joined it later for a tea party.
  • Exact Words: Despite Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre's form change being similar to Mega Evolution, they are exempted from this battle royale as their transformation is specifically called Primal Reversion. In contrast, while Rayquaza's Mega Evolution behaves differently from regular Mega Evolution, it is still a Mega Evolution and thus Rayquaza takes part here. This same logic is later applied to Gigantimax Battle Royale.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • The truck Mega Scizor slices in half has a Team Rocket grunt inside of it.
    • Mario can be seen flying by as Mega Salamence slices Mega Manetric in half.
  • Funny Background Event: As Ampharos, Alakazam, and Altaria grow hair/feathers as part of their Mega Evolutions, Mega Lopunny is shaving its legs behind them.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Glalie suffocates to death inside of its coughed-up snow after being given a mask by Audino.
  • I'm Melting!: Both Mega Scizor and Mega Houndoom suffer this simultaneously thanks to their forms' own energy output.
  • The Juggernaut: Like before, Mega Tyranitar lasts incredibly long because of this, managing to tank hits from Mega Mewtwo X and Y, Mega Aggron, and Mega Steelix, only losing due to being thrown into space by Mega Heracross.
  • Lady and Knight: Mega Gallade tries to invoke this with Mega Gardevoir against Mega Garchomp, only for Mega Gardevoir to have none of it and take them both out with a black hole.
  • Laughing Mad: Because it's stated that it enjoys flying too much to ever land, Mega Pinsir is depicted as flying around cackling constantly instead of fighting.
  • No-Sell: Mega Tyranitar is completely invulnerable to enemy attacks, requiring it be thrown into space. Also, Mewtwo Y is able to shrug off everything Mega Lucario and Medicham throw at it by instantly teleporting in and out of place mere moments before each impact.
  • Now What?: After destroying Mega Swampert and Mega Gyarados with its tail missile, Mega Sceptile does not know what to do next.
  • Off with His Head!: As Mega Salamence flies by Mega Abomasnow, the former's wing slices the latter's head off.
  • Oh, Crap!:
  • Razor Wings: Mega Salamance's wings fuse together into a razor-sharp crescent, driving it into a berserk rage. It even uses this to great effect on Mega Abomasnow, Mega Latios and Latias, as well as Mega Manetric.
  • Sequel Hook: The post-credits scene has Mega Mawile, Mega Banette, and the baby Mega Kangaskhan find themselves in the middle of a Gigantamax Pokémon Battle Royale.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Rayquaza stops the meteor containing Mega Stones by going "Stop! You violated the law!" It cutting into the meteor and later treating it as cake is reference to the "Everything is Cake" meme popular in 2020.
    • Mega Latios and Latias point at each other in a manner similar to the "Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man" meme.
    • During the flashback to the first Battle Royale, Bronzong encourages Metagross with a quote from Doc Louis.
    • Mega Scizor saws a boat in half.
    • Siege Tank sounds play while Mega Blastoise deploys its cannons. Four Squirtle do a Koffing Dance when it gets killed.
    • Mega Swampert uses Heavy voice clips.
    • Kangaskhan cries out "Oscar!" while Mega Gengar — dressed as a spectral nanny — abducts her baby.
    • Sean Schemmel voicing both Lucario and Goku gets referenced.
    • Mega Audino tries healing Mega Alakazam by whacking it with a medkit from Left 4 Dead (a Call-Back to when Happiny did the same to Azurill in Baby Pokémon Battle Royale, albeit without Louis' voice), and then later goes "It's time to d-d-d-d-d-Duel!" while bringing out its Pokémon card that was used to win in the 2016 World Championships.
    • Mega Sableye uses Stitch voice clips.
    • Before the simulation gets powered down, it shows a list of which Pokémon are most likely to win. Mega Kangaskhan is shown to be third-most likely to win after Mewtwo and Rayquaza, referencing how Mega Kangaskhan was so strong in its debut generation that Smogon banned it to Ubers and it was a mainstay in the 2015 World Championships.
  • Single Specimen Species: In this world, there is still one Mewtwo, so to showcase both Mega forms, it can change between them at will.
  • Squishy Wizard: Exaggerated. Due to Mega Evolution converting all of its physical strength to psionic power, Mega Alakazam is sent flying into a tree after accidentally tapped by one of Mega Lucario's head appendages during its fight with Mewtwo Y. It takes Mega Audino and Diancie much of the remaining fight to bring it back to fighting shape.
  • Stance System: Mewtwo uses Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y as this.
  • The Stinger: After the aforementioned Sequel Hook with Mawile, Banette, and the baby Kangaskhan, Mega Pinsir lands in Super Mario 64, and promptly gets stomped by Mario.
  • Story Arc: The Stinger features the start of a storyline involving three victims of Mega Gengar's rampage: Mawile, Banette and the baby Kangashkan, which is continued in the stingers of the following animations.
  • Take That!:
    • Mega Latios and Latias having the same appearance is mocked by making them point at each other in reference to the Spider-Man pointing meme.
    • Mega Blastoise shoots a Hydro Pump from its face rather than its cannons, a jab at how the 3D Pokémon games don't animate it actually shooting water from its cannons. Lockstin also makes a jab at it in his analysis video, saying Game Freak lacks "detailed graphical ambition".
    • After the simulation ends, The Men in Black come in, unplug the machine, and wipe Red's mind of the experience, with Lockstin appeasing them by saying that Mega Pokemon don't exist. This is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that Mega Evolution had been removed from the series as of Gen 8.
    • In the analysis video, it's mentioned the only reason the Mega Charizards were shown at all was due to Charizard's popularity, since while Mega Charizard Y can fly faster and Mega Charizard X has hotter flames, other Pokémon exemplify those abilities to an even greater extent.
  • Taking You with Me: Knowing it'll die to Mega Camerupt's Eruption (again), Mega Metagross claws into it and explodes.
  • The Medic: Mega Diancie and especially Mega Audino spend more time as healers than fighters.
  • Those Two Guys: Mega Lucario and Mega Medicham are constantly seen fighting together, teaming up against Mega Slowbro and then Mewtwo.
  • Torso with a View: Mega Aggron pokes three holes right through Mega Blastoise's torso, later stabbing through them from the other side to finish it off.
  • Visual Pun: One of the objects incinerated by Mega Houndoom turns into Ash Ketchum, as opposed to a pile of ash.
  • Worthy Opponent: The moment Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Tyranitar lock eyes with each other, they're quick to end their own battles prematurely (unceremoniously blowing their would-be opponents away) and focus on one another instead.
