Gigantamax Pokémon Battle Royale is the 5th entry of Pokemon Battle Royale collaborated by Jeremy Chinshue and Lockstin from Gnoggin. Simulating Earth once more, Eternamax Eternatus sends out all of the Pokémon who have the ability to Gigantamax to duke it out for victory.

The battle is preceded by Mega Pokémon Battle Royale and followed by Pokémon Battle Royale: ULTRA BEASTS!.

You can watch the video here, and Lockstin's commentary here.

Tropes:

  • 1-Dimensional Thinking: Cinderace didn't take the chance to get out of the way of where Copperajah was moving Snorlax, despite having a few seconds to spare while fleeing.
  • Acid Attack: Kingler, Flapple, and Appletun use some form of this. Kingler with its strongly alkaline bubbles, and Flapple and Appletun with their Apple Acid, which proves fatal to Butterfree and Melmetal, respectively.
  • Angst Nuke: All of the noise and violence around Hatterene makes her finally snap and unleash G-Max Smite, killing Grimmsnarl, Blastoise, and Toxtricity (and potentially Duraludon, given we never see what happens to it).
  • Always Accurate Attack: Cinderace's G-Max Fireball never misses. It makes use of this to ground Orbeetle, blow through Alcremie's body, set Venusaur on fire, and even obliterate Corviknight despite the bird's best attempts to dodge.
  • Bad Santa: Gigantamax Kingler has a very long, Santa-esque beard and a "Ho Ho Ho!" Evil Laugh, and it kills Gigantamax Inteleon, Gigantamax Butterfree, and Gigantamax Orbeetle before getting one-shotted by Gigantamax Urshifu S.
  • Behemoth Battle: The entire point of the video is to have all of the Gigantamax Pokémon to fight one another to see which one is the strongest.
  • Big Friendly Dog: Or more accurately Big Friendly Pokémon, but Gigantamax Eevee certainly applies with the Dynamax amplifying its already notable friendliness and fluffiness, and being a non-combatant during its screentime, though this friendliness is exploited when Gigantamax Gengar makes it see a trainer that wants to cuddle it.
  • Bland-Name Product: Right before it dies, Gigantamax Gengar types "Will I be okay if I eat a literal mountain of trash" into "Goomle" on its Porygon Phone.
  • Boring, but Practical: Unlike previous Battle Royales where the winner usually possesses powerful offensive capabilities, note  Lapras wins by virtue of being a nonaggressive Stone Wall that avoids direct confrontation and has numerous defensive measures to keep itself safe. Thus, in the final confrontation with Urshifu R, Lapras is functionally fresh whereas Urshifu is running on empty after beating multiple other Pokémon. This allows Lapras to surprise Urshifu with an inescapable ice age at the last moment.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Inteleon's preferred way of fighting. It scores the first blood by sniping Meowth and snipes Rillaboom too after the ape's drum set is destroyed. It also attempts to snipe Charizard before Kingler snips its tail.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Rillaboom can be seen pooping when it desperately drums to keep Drednaw, then Duraludon, at bay.
  • Bullet Hell: Corviknight is put through one of these dodging projectiles from both Alcremie and Blastoise. Complete with Utsuho's klaxons.
  • Butt-Monkey: Almost nothing goes right for Grimmsnarl. Its G-Max Snooze leaves the perpetually sleepy Snorlax completely unfazed, and it's sent flying for a long while when it bounces off Snorlax's belly. When Duraludon's Hyper Beam gets redirected off of Drednaw by Rillaboom, it slices one of Grimmsnarl's hair legs while it's still flying. It manages to eliminate Urshifu S with a drill kick, but gets tased by Pikachu's tail, before getting zapped to death by Hatterene.
  • Call-Back: When Gengar is trying to eat Garbodor, we can see Mega Mawile, Mega Banette, and Mega Kangaskan's baby jump in its mouth, and we see this up close in The Stinger. We also get a repeat of Machamp (this time in its Gigantamax form) taking out another Pokémon with Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs (that being Gigantamax Pikachu instead of Tyranitar).
  • The Cameo: Multiple non-Gigantamax Pokémon appear in the battle royale; Tyranitar, Golurk, and Dragonite appear at the start only to be vaporized by Eternatus shortly after, a few Squirtles jump off of Gigantamax Blastoise after Drednaw rams into it, one of the hearts surrounding Eevee before being eaten by Gengar is actually a Luvdisc, the Mega Pokémon mentioned in Call-Back above, and a real (and terrified) Clefairy being trapped in Garbodor's body instead of a fake one.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: The battle between Urshifu R and Snorlax consists of the former rapidly punching the latter, whose only reaction to the attacks is to try to heal itself with G-Max Replenish. By the time Urshifu R is finished, it is exhausted while Snorlax is left as a beaten mess before simply exploding.
  • Driven to Suicide: Garbodor, having no loved ones that Gengar can convince it with, sheds a Single Tear before willingly climbing into Gengar's maw.
  • Eaten Alive:
    • Snorlax eats Alcremie while being rolled around by Copperajah.
    • Copperajah gets absorbed by Melmetal.
    • Charizard, Eevee, and Garbodor are all eaten by Gengar, whose stomach is a portal to the afterlife.
  • Enemy Mine: Centiskorch and Coalossal team up to turn Sandaconda into glass. The instant Sandaconda goes down, however, Coalossal turns on Centiskorch and melts it with its significantly superior temperature, before crushing it with G-Max Volcalith.
  • Exact Words: The whole battle is for Gigantamax Pokémon, meaning that Eternamax Eternatus sits the battle out barring being the one who starts the battle, the source of the Dynamax phenomenon, and it booting out any Pokémon without a Gigantamax form (notably Tyranitar, Golurk, and Dragonite).
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Gigantamax Hatterene gains these after reaching her Rage Breaking Point.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Charizard enters the afterlife with a bass-boosted "Adiós".
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Gigantamax Copperajah's main "weapon" is rolling Gigantamax Snorlax. On a similar note, Machamp uses Drednaw to take both it and Hatterene out. Machamp also eliminates the first of the Flapple/Appletun pair by throwing Blastoise at it (much to the chagrin of Pikachu).
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Gengar’s bloodlust ends up causing it to try eating Garbodor, which works… but also kills it as well since Garbodor is a literal pile of garbage.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Gigantamax Flapple and Appletun look exactly the same, so one of them is shiny in this animation.
  • Instrument of Murder: Toxtricity squashes the remaining half of the Flapple/Appletun pair flat with its guitar-shaped electric mass, but not before playing a loud metal riff.
  • Kill It Through Its Stomach: Gigantamax Garbodor is so toxic that eating it gives even the Poison-type Gengar a fatal case of indigestion, leading to it imploding.
  • Literally Shattered Lives:
    • Sandaconda, being surrounded by a giant vortex of sand, gets turned into glass by Centiskorch and Coalossal before falling down and shattering into pieces.
    • Coalossal taunts Drednaw, only for the alligator snapping turtle Pokémon to extend its neck and deliver a point-blank G-Max Stonesurge that shatters Coalossal's body.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Gengar's modus operandi is to lure its victims towards its gaping mouth by projecting voices of their loved ones calling out to them, lampshading the trope as common in ghost stories. It works on Charizard because of its Character Shilling status, then Eevee because of its adorable and friendly disposition. Unfortunately for Gengar, it doesn't work on Garbodor, who has no loved ones and thus is willingly throwing itself into Gengar's mouth.
  • Mind Control: After Orbeetle is grounded by Cinderace's G-Max Fireball, it mind controls some Meltan to help it get back up.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Downplayed with Cinderace, who wears photorealistic pants; and Inteleon, who shoots with a photorealistic (albeit blue-shaded) sniper rifle.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Garbodor throws itself into Gengar's mouth, Gengar panics and tries to look up on a Porygon Phone if it will be OK after eating a literal mountain of garbage before promptly imploding.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Between Urshifu R and Lapras before the final battle:
Urshifu R: AURORA BOREALIS?! At this time of year. At this time of day. In this part of the country. Localized, entirely within your-
    Lapras: Yes!
Urshifu R: [Beat, then kills Machamp] May I see it?
Lapras: Yes! [Sets up Aurora Veil]
    • And then shortly thereafter, as Urshifu R thinks it has Lapras cornered:
Urshifu R: Any last words before I kill ya?
      Urshifu R: (beat)
Lapras: THE ICE AGE!! (unleashes their final attack on Urshifu R)
  • Rage Breaking Point: Gigantamax Hatterene suffers this thanks to the violence and chaos going on around her, causing her to snap and unleash G-Max Smite to wipe out nearly every other Gigantamax Pokémon that was still around aside from Machamp, Drednaw (who was used to take her out by Machamp), Urshifu R (who was outside of the city while whaling on Snorlax at the time) and Lapras.
  • Ramming Always Works: Drednaw exercises this as it enters the fight, ramming into Blastoise to sink it a la the Titanic.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs:
    • Machamp unleashes a Fist of the North Star-style volley of punches on Pikachu.
    • Urshifu R would then give Machamp a taste of its own medicine.
    • Urshifu R's ultimate attack against Lapras is G-Max Rapid Flow, a volley of punches that bypass its opponents' defensive barriers, like Max Guard.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Eternamax Eternatus is The Unfought in this battle royale, but is the Pokémon responsible for the other Pokémon with a Gigantamax form being able to Dynamax to begin with.
  • Stock Scream: Grimmsnarl lets out a classic Goofy yell when it bounces off Snorlax's belly.
  • Take That!:
    • Tyranitar, Golurk, and Dragonite are mocked and unceremoniously obliterated by Eternatus, which Lockstin's analysis reveals was a jab at Game Freak for not having given them Gigantamax forms.
    • Charizard's Character Shilling status, both by the creators of Pokémon and by the fans, gets used against it by having Gengar lure Charizard into its mouth with encouraging words. In his breakdown of the video, Lockstin also sounded surprised that Charizard placed third in the tier list of which Gigantamax Pokémon would win.
  • Tempting Fate: Coalossal issues a Bring It at Drednaw who is still in the ocean, not knowing that Drednaw can extend its neck super far, leading to Drednaw demolishing Coalossal with G-Max Stonesurge.
  • The Stinger: Focusing on a Freeze-Frame Bonus during the royale, we see a Mawile, Banette, and Baby Kangashkan, the same ones from the previous battle royale, jump into Gigantamax Gengar's mouth. Finding themselves inside of a The Matrix: Reloaded reference, an elderly Alakazam reveals to them the true nature of their existence as characters in a battle royale simulator. And in the real world, a Sudowoodo watches this revelation as well.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Even while acknowledging that Gigantamax Pikachu is just big and fat, this marks the first battle royale where Pikachu actively gets to do something. Granted that only amounts to hitting Grimmsnarl with its tail, but that is still a better showing than dying immediately in the first two battle royales or Pichu knocking itself out in the baby battle royale.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: While Gengar swallows Eevee down successfully, it is left coughing out a giant furball. This impairs its judgement enough to make it try to eat Garbodor, a literal walking mountain of trash. And when Garbodor throws itself into Gengar's mouth, it collapses into itself from sheer disgust.
  • The Unfought: Eternamax Eternatus, despite being in the video's thumbnail, isn't really shown picking a fight with any Gigantamaxed 'mon, only getting rid of non-Gigantamax ones before bolting out with a "lol cya" in the subtitles. Justified, since it's technically not a Gigantamax and would probably effortlessly destroy both all competitors and any tension in the video.
  • Useless Without Powers: Due to their actual bodies not getting much bigger, all three of the Galar starters and Alcremie end up losing after their supersized main items are destroyed.
    • Alcremie's cake-like lower body gets destroyed by Cinderace's Pyro Ball due to the fact that cream can melt and cakes can burn, leaving her trying to scoop up whatever is left of her before being eaten by the rolling Snorlax.
    • Cinderace's Pyro Ball falls into the ocean after taking down Corviknight, leaving it defenseless when Copperajah starts rolling Snorlax around, leading to Cinderace being squished.
    • Rillaboom's drum set gets flattened by a falling Duraludon, making it sulk before being headshot by Inteleon.
    • Inteleon's tail gets cut in half by Kingler, making the whole tail tower come crashing down and explode.
  • Victory by Endurance: Lapras is declared the victor of the battle royale mainly due to how tanky it is, thanks to a combination of Lapras' Stone Wall status in general, the standard Dynamax mechanisms like Max Guard and being able to set up Aurora Veil whenever it feels like it. Urshifu is pretty much the only Pokémon who can bypass Lapras' defenses thanks to G-Max One Blow and G-Max Rapid Flow, but Single Strike Urshifu had already been eliminated and Lapras resists Rapid Strike Urshifu's G-Max Rapid Flow, so that's still not enough to make it the overall victor in the video.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: The most Urshifu R's initial flurry of punches does to Snorlax is making the latter puke, only for Snorlax to eat it back (treated as G-Max Replenish), much to Urshifu's disgust.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: While Venusaur's last appearance being on fire implies that it got burned away by Cinderace's Pyro Ball, Duraludon is demonstrated to have survived getting tipped over, and its last appearance being it falling down a second time leaves the cause of its defeat unknown (though it might have been struck down by Hatterene).
  • The Worf Effect: Tyranitar, who had impressive showings in the two previous simulations it was in, gets vaporized by Eternatus for not having a Gigantamax form.
  • You Fool!: Urshifu R lets out two of these in quick succession when Lapras tries to protect itself with Aurora Veil and Max Guard, unaware that G-Max Rapid Flow ignores all protection moves. Too bad for Urshifu that Lapras is still immensely tanky and resists water moves... Did we mention that one of Lapras' ability makes Water-type moves useless and instead heals it?
