    Cuphead, Mugman, and Elder Kettle

Cuphead will experience Heroic BSoD at some point in the show
There's nothing wrong with a dash of heebie-jeebies going all the way...
  • Also based on the many angst Cuphead fanfics written by fans.

Mugman performs a Heroic Sacrifice
  • In an instance where the Devil has Cuphead cornered with no way out, Mugman offers his soul up in Cuphead's place. The Devil, thinking that Cuphead would eventually do something to where he would owe his soul again, takes the deal and Mugman's soul while letting Cuphead go, prompting Cuphead to save his brother.

Cuphead will give himself up to the Devil at some point in the show
  • Maybe the Devil finds out about Cuphead's fear about Mugman and Elder Kettle being put in danger, so he exploits so Cuphead will be forced to make the choice of giving up his soul to the Devil or risk losing the ones he holds close to his heart, and Cuphead will have no choice but to pick the first option.

Elder Kettle will beat the Devil.
Similar to the theory above that state he will find out and give the boys the potions to help this is more along the lines that he will be the solution to their problem.
  • While more on the idea of fearing a talking to from their Parental Substitute the fact the boys seem very determined to keep it a secret could be seen as a set up for him potentially solving their problem easily.
  • We learn he is a decorated war hero so that definitely says he’s at least a fighter and will do as such to protect his kids.

At some point, likely the final battle, Cuphead and Mugman will use the powers they have from the game.
After all, you can’t have a show based on a video game and not reference the main mechanic in some way, can you?

Cuphead and Mugman will have they're powers sometime soon.
While we don't see Cuphead and Mugman's powers it's possible that we'll see how did they got they're own powers.

At some point, Cuphead and Mugman will pilot an airplane
And unlike the game, it’ll be a complete disaster as expected when two inexperienced boys pilot an airplane.

There will be a Mythology Gag about the Mugman Army glitch

    Ms. Chalice

Ms. Chalice will be frenemies with Cuphead and Mugman
There is one shot in the trailer where she is seen giving a side Death Glare to Cuphead and Mugman
  • Averted. While she initially distrusts the boys, she quickly befriends them.

Ms.Chalice will reveal her true form
In the game, Ms. Chalice is just a form of Legendary Chalice, so in the show she'll reveal her Legendary Chalice form.
  • So far we've seen her in her ghost/soul form. That or...
    • Averted: The Legendary Chalice doesn't exist in the cartoon. Ms. Chalice is about the same age as Cuphead and Mugman and became a ghost on the day she met them.

Ms. Chalice has some degree of Ghost Amnesia.
...which is why she doesn't act like the Legendary Chalice: she can't remember being her. Her easygoing con artist persona seems like the kind of identity you would pick up quickly if you didn't remember anything else, and not knowing about old enemies might explain her suspicious nature.
  • Averted: The Legendary Chalice doesn't exist in the cartoon. Ms. Chalice is about the same age as Cuphead and Mugman and became a ghost on the day she met them.

Ms. Chalice will give Cuphead the Giant Ghost power from the game
With the magic sweater gone there's nothing stopping the Devil from grabbing Cuphead's soul whenever he wants (or recovers from his injury in Sweater Luck Next Time). The Giant Ghost power will be what keeps the Devil at bay this time when he tries to claim Cuphead's soul only for it to become comically buff and beat him up.

Ms. Chalice is a soul that escaped The Devil's Vault

How did she escape? When the Devil destroyed Stickler's book, he had to recount and re-register every soul, giving the souls an opportunity to escape. Ms. Chalice happened to be the only one who succeeded.

  • That, or we haven't seen the other escaped souls yet
    • OR they've already been recaptured, and that's the reason Ms. Chalice is constantly on the run
      • We have seen wanted posters of Cuphead, presumably by the Devil. So maybe he gave the police orders to arrest escaped souls. Since they're either, another front for soul collection, or they're simply afraid of what he might do to them if they refuse
      • Though when they caught Cuphead and Mugman, they simply throw them in prison.
      • Though either the prison could be where one of those soul stealing tubes are since the public wouldn't think, or care, to look there, they simply didn't recognize Cuphead, or they need to find away to seperate him from Mugman, since he's usually the one that rescues his soul from the Devil.
  • Or Ms. Chalice was amongst the souls that escaped when the Devil destroyed the Soul Ball game in the first episode
  • Averted: Ms. Chalice died on the day she met Cuphead and Mugman and the Devil gave her a second chance at life as part of a deal.

  • Averted: Ms. Chalice is about the same age as Cuphead and Mugman and became a ghost on the day she met them.

Ms. Chalice has already gotten the Wondertart from Chef Saltbaker
Hence her being able to switch between her physical and ghost forms at will. Note that this wouldn't necessarily mean Saltbaker will never be an antagonist in the show.
  • Averted: The Devil gave her the ability to switch between living and ghost forms as part of a deal.

Ms. Chalice's ability to possess people will be a Chekhov's Gun
For example, she could possess an antagonist to stop them from hurting Cuphead and Mugman.

The Devil, King Dice, and their Minions

The Devil is secretly jealous of King Dice's popularity
In the trailer the Devil says he loves it when people run away from him, but later in the series it will turn out that he's actually been repressing/denying his envy towards how much everyone loves King Dice. This could partially be the reason for the Devil just replying "who?" to King Dice's phone call (aside from the former's usual uncaring nature).

The Devil and King Dice will sing a villainous duet at some point
We know they'll both sing in the show so why not?

Mr. Wheezy and the Tipsy Troop will be either scrapped or heavily redesigned
Considering how the show is apparently targeted towards the 6-12 audience, it seems unlikely that they'll keep around characters that are blatantly designed after a cigar and alcoholic drinks respectively. Pirouletta and Chips Bettigan could be redesigned (and renamed) as well, but they'll likely be more recognizable in comparison (e.g. Chips could be a stack of coins/tokens/checker pieces instead of poker chips).

The Devil will have plenty of Beware the Silly Ones moments
After all, he may be a pompous, flamboyant character from what we’ve seen so far, he’s still the Devil, and notably none of the trailers show us what happens when someone really pisses him off except for a brief glance of him turning red and being covered in flames.

The reason it took so long for the Devil to go after Cuphead's soul was because he didn't think it mattered.
Think about it from Devil's point of view. Sure, this one kid got away and freed all the souls he'd stolen from his carnival scheme, but it's not like he doesn't have several other methods to get those souls back. Heck, King Dice is later stealing back a soul that Cuphead set free so more than likely, he just assumed that Cuphead would blunder his way into one. The only reason he decided to really focus his efforts on Cuphead was because Stickler was getting on his case.

The Devil’s trident is the key to beating him
He’s rarely seen with it, and notably at one point when he shape-shifts into a flying snake the trident actually becomes part of his body while he shoots fire out of it. Perhaps the trident is a Power Crutch for him, and stealing or breaking it will diminish the threat he poses to Cuphead and Mugman, and the Inkwell Isles as a whole.

Pip and Dot will be hired by King Dice at some point later
Same goes for any other members of "the King's Court".

King Dice and/or Henchman will eventually betray the Devil
Considering how poorly they're generally treated by the Devil, it's almost inevitable. In King Dice's case, he may have been planning his betrayal all along.

If Henchman does a Heel–Face Turn (or at least betrays the Devil in some way), he'll change his name to something else
After all he'd obviously no longer be the Devil's henchman at that point, so he could give himself a different name to signify that he's his own person now.

The Devil and (to a lesser extent) King Dice will gradually become more threatening as the series progresses
They may initially seem like Adaptational Wimps (as of Seasons 1-2) but it's still early in the series, so it's always possible they'll progressively become more serious villains as they get more Character Development. Though of course, this wouldn't mean they'll completely lose their humorous streaks.

If Pirouletta (or rather a Bowdlerized version of her) appears, she'll have a Russian accent
She does make a reference to the Russian Roulette in her death quote after all.

    Other Bosses

Characters that might appear in the series
Well, as few of the people Cuphead and Mugman have defeated in the game do appear in the series. Such as Cala Maria, Captain Brineybeard, Ribby and Croaks, and The Root Pack.

  • Hilda Berg
    • Confirmed via the second season two trailer
  • Goopy Le Grande
  • Cagney Carnation
    • Possibly with a Jekyll/Hyde kind of personality that happens whenever he sneezes.
  • Baroness Von Bon Bon
    • Confirmed. The trailer for season two revealed her.
  • Djimmy the Great
  • Beppi the Clown
  • Wally Warbles
    • Except, this time, he will also appear with his son, Willy.
  • Rumor Honeybottoms
    • Confirmed for her goons at least. Perhaps an antagonist for Season 2?
  • Werner Werman
    • Confirmed via trailers for season two
  • Dr. Kahl and His Robot
  • The Phantom Express
  • Chef Saltbaker
  • Moonshine Mob
  • Glumstone the Giant
  • The Howling Aces
  • Mortimer Freeze
  • Esther Winchester
  • The King of Games and his champions
  • The Angel and Demon secret bosses

Queen Honeybottom will appear in the series
Her policemen do appear in the series, I mean, they can't be appearing without her being involved.

Possible Casting Choices
Well, with a few rumors of who might be voicing the bosses from the video game there are some possibilities of who might voice each of them.

Possible episode plots focusing on the bosses

  • Cuphead and Mugman will meet Baroness Von Bon Bon in an episode where they somehow end up in her land of candy and are chased by her and her subjects when they eat some of the Baroness’ castle, not knowing it’s alive until after they take a bite.
    • From the clip, at least part of the plot will be Cuphead somehow finding his way into Sugarland where the Baroness will try and tempt him into eating her sweets for some ulterior, and obviously sinister motive.
  • Beppi will try to make the boys laugh but only end up terrifying them and spend the episode continually trying but only looking more and more horrifying every time.
  • Djimmi the Great will appear in a genie of the lamp episode where Cuphead summons him and is given three wishes. Cuphead of course wishes for mundane things, frustrating Djimmi who wants to mess with his wishes.
  • Cuphead and Mugman will want to be pirates and end up on Captain Brineybeard’s ship where they search for Cala Maria. The episode would end with Captain Brineybeard getting petrified by Cala Maria and the brothers escaping before they share his fate.
  • Cuphead steals the show at one of Sally Stageplay's performances, and she doesn't like it one bit. Sally gets her husband to help her, despite him trying to calm her down. It’ll take her husband getting into an accident on stage for Sally to snap out of it.
  • Dr. Kahl’s robot will appear in a Frankenstein’s Monster themed episode where the cup brothers befriend the robot after he escaped the lab while Dr. Kahl tries getting him back.
  • The cup brothers meet Willy and are caught up in his pranks that ultimately lead to Wally getting his feathers plucked and sent to the hospital. Rather than blaming his son, Wally will believe the cup brothers are the ones responsible and tell them to stay away from his son.
  • Grim Matchstick could reappear despite the season one cameo with a larger role. He wouldn't know that the brothers kidnapped his egg in the first place and is surprisingly good-natured when not in Papa Wolf mode and he ends up forming a friendship with them (a nod to the game fandom theory that he sold his soul out of loneliness) but this made difficult by his size and power causing damage to the Isles and making the residents try to drive him off as a result.
  • The boys will find airplanes and begin flying them, badly. Annoying Hilda Berg in the process. Alliteratively, the same plot but with the Howling Aces instead. Or both.
  • Some DLC boss episode ideas:
    • The boys will stumble upon a winter wonderland and battle Mortimer Freeze for the right to play in the snow.
    • Elder Kettle takes the boys to see the Howling Aces perform in an airshow.
    • In an attempt to recover some brownie points with the police, the boys hunt down infamous outlaw Ester Winchester.
    • Cuphead and Mugman decide to go hiking in the mountains, where they stumble upon the gnomes and their friend Glumstone but accidentally anger them somehow.
  • Possible episode that could focus on 2 characters: At some point they will meet Rumor Honeybottom (possibly right after they get arrested) and she will order them to go and get some pollen. They will then go to a flower field and encounter Cagney, who they will not realize is a sentient flower at the time, and attempt to get pollen from him. Most likely angering him in the process.

Ollie Bulb is still a crybaby; he just puts up a tough front whenever he's with the rest of the Root Pack
Ollie gets to be his true bashful self when he's alone (e.g. during his battle phase when the other Root Pack members are underground). It's worth noting that Ollie is also portrayed as being mean in the Comic Capers and Curios graphic novel where, again, he's with Sal Spudder and Chauncey Chantenay.
  • Possibly confirmed, although it’s a little too early to say for certain. The only time the brothers catch Ollie alone he doesn’t show any signs of villainy or meanness and weeps over their deliberately exaggerated predicament.

Cagney Carnation will adopt Baby bottle
Both pretend to be cute before fighting with the cup brothers.

If Hilda Berg appears, she will be voiced by Deedee Magno-Hall.
  • It would make the most sense since Hilda berg looks like pearl not to mention the theme fits too!
  • In her brief appearance in season 2 she was voiced by Grey Griffin, but perhaps she'll be voiced by Deedee Magno-Hall once she's properly introduced.

Chef Saltbaker will be the Devil's ally
The Devil, King Dice and Saltbaker will form a Terrible Trio as the Evil Counterparts of Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice. But given Saltbaker's power-hungriness as a villain and his Heel–Face Turn after his defeat in the DLC, he may end up betraying the other two villains in the show one way or another.

Chef Saltbaker will be King Dice's rival competing against him for the Devil's #1 position
A more specific version of the WMG above.

Cala Maria killed Cuphead and Mugman's biological parents
If you look at the pile of skulls Cala smacks with her hand during her Villain Song, at least two look like they're more cup-like than human. My theory is that Cuphead and Mugman's parents dropped their young sons off with Elder Kettle, an old friend of one of their families, while they went on a sea voyage. Unfortunately, they never made it back, as the infamous sea beast ate them and their crew.

Cala Maria killed her own parents as well.
She only uses past-tense verbs when talking about her parents. She is surprisingly cruel and murderous in this version, so killing her own parents doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility for her.

Beppi already owes the Devil his soul
The use of "Carnival Kerfuffle" (Beppi's boss theme) during the Devil's rampage in "The Devil's Pitchfork" could be a subtle hint to this, similar to how "Admission to Perdition" (the theme for the first part of the Devil's boss fight) contains several of the debtors' leitmotifs.

The Devil already has Beppi's soul
Similar to the WMG above except Beppi's in bigger trouble. In this case his soul could be freed by Cuphead and Mugman.

Baroness Von Bon Bon will be freed from her curse at some point
This could go one of two ways:
  1. She'll be able to leave Sugarland to kidnap and eat more people, and Cuphead and co. will have to defeat her for good.
  2. A more sympathetic approach where she's thankful for her freedom, leading to her Heel–Face Turn.

Cala Maria was bitten by electric eels in the past
Of course, how else would she have gotten her ability to turn into a gorgon? Especially since there's no indication so far that either of her parents had that kind of ability.

Sally Stageplay knew all along that she'd been conned
Taken from youtube comments. Sally was playing along because she loves acting; when the ghost appears, she screams like a proper horror movie damsel, but immediately drops character to answer the door. Sally gives them their quarter with a 'bravo' because they gave her a good show.

    Other Characters

Jerry is actually Wermer Werman
Jerry is a nickname for German soldiers, and Wermer is obviously German
  • The Season 2 trailer confirms Wermer Werman's in the show, but nothing about him being Jerry yet
  • Likely jossed, as Werner is much smaller than Jerry.

Jerry is Sally Stageplay
Jerry kinda looks like her
  • Another Season 2 trailer confirms Sally Stageplay's in the show, but nothing about her being Jerry yet

Jerry is Beppi the Clown
They do both have long red noses.

There are multiple Bowlboys
Some of them have different personalities, like how the one from "Handle With Care" is a lot less unhinged than the ones in "Another Brother". The Doctor Bowlboy at the end of the latter episode is also different from the one that got shattered (who is now permanently dead).

Wolfgang will appear in the show
Since Ludwig is in the show, why not his rival too?

The Ice Cream Man will meet Baroness Von Bon Bon at some point
Considering how the Ice Cream Man is a literal walking muffin, let's just say his encounter with the Baroness won't exactly end well... But if he's lucky enough, she may spare him and make him one of her underlings instead.

Ludwig will return with Trauma-Induced Amnesia
He won't remember Cuphead and Mugman at all, and may act genuinely friendly towards them (and/or start acting like his game counterpart) and even pronounce their names correctly. Only when he gets crushed by a piano again will he regain his memories and recognize "Coophaad" and "Moogmaan".

Baby Bottle isn't even a baby.
It's an Eldritch Abomination that only seeks destruction. Though, admittedly on a far smaller scale than the usual examples of this trope.

    Season 1

At one point in the first season, Cuphead and Mugman will have a Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure moment and eventually reconcile towards the end of the season
  • It makes sense, plus you combine it with a cliffhanger episode, then it'll be one hell of an episode to watch
    • This happens, but they reconcile at the end of the same episode they started fighting.
  • this could still happen in season 2

End-credit scene ideas
Potential ideas for the show's outro can be the following. Feel free to add to the list for ideas:
  • Cuphead and Mugman watching the stars at night in the park. Ms. Chalice will eventually be added in the outro after she's introduced.
  • Cuphead and Mugman sleeping on the couch in the living room after a long day.
  • A photo-album montage of other adventures Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice went on, including some adventures that aren't seen in the actual show.
  • A montage of Cuphead, Mugman, Ms. Chalice having fun in the park, and messing around in the park's fountain, as an homage to the famous opening credits from Friends.
  • Cuphead sitting by a tree, reading from a book, as Mugman sleeps on his shoulder, while Ms. Chalice sits on a tree branch and watches the breeze.
  • The closing credits will be an homage to early 1920-1930's films with the credits rolling on a vintage black screen with film grain and as the credits end, Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice wave goodbye to the viewers.
  • Cuphead and Mugman, eventually joined by Ms. Chalice after she is introduced, sitting on a fence at night, watching the moonlight shine over the lake as the moon reflects on the water, as crickets and ambient nighttime sounds are heard in the background.
  • The closing credits takes place over a black screen but the film grain is still seen to keep the retro mood going.
    • Correct.
  • A still image of Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice walking off into the horizon as the sun sets.
  • A montage of the many characters of the Inkwell Isles, both from the show and the video game, getting ready for bed at night, including shots of the Devil and King Dice, ending with Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice, as they go to sleep, and the montage ends with a shot of Cuphead and Mugman's home.

  • If any episode ends on a sour note, a special outro sequence will have the credits roll over a black screen with just projector static noise, and no music will be played. If music does play, then it will be a sad version of "The Cuphead Show" theme song.
    • Or maybe it'll have the theme of Inkwell Hell...
    • Jossed: Each episode ends with an instrumental version of the theme song.

  • Regardless of the outcome, the outro will end with King Dice saying, just like the game...
King Dice: That's all there is. There isn't any more. Or is there...? (Evil Laugh)
    • Jossed: The outro is just the instrumental version of the theme and King Dice doesn't say anything at the end.

  • OUTRO CONFIRMED: The outro has the credits over a black screen with the film grain still active with the instrumental version of the theme song playing, but the King Dice stinger is absent.

One of the episodes will end on a cliffhanger
  • In a nod to the Bad Ending from the original game with Cuphead's soul being taken.
    • The 12th episode ends in a cliffhanger, but it ends with Cuphead and Mugman getting arrested after Ms. Chalice reluctantly abandons them in a cookie factory.

The cups will escape their current situation via Deal with the Devil...
  • ...which will lead into a modified version of the main game's timeline, with the boys hunting down soul contracts Once per Episode.

King Dice luring Cuphead and Mugman onto his game show, "Roll The Dice", is a trap for the Devil to capture Cuphead's soul
  • Correct.

    Season 2

Possible Season 2 Future Ideas
Since the season one finale of the series ended on a cliffhanger, with the caption saying “to be continued”, with Season 2 announced, there are some possibilities of what might happen in Season 2.
  • Cuphead and Mugman will try to find a way to tell the police officers that they are innocent.
    • and maybe by the end of the first episode they do prove it!
    • Or alternatively, Elder Kettle will pay the boys' bail, and the rest of the episode will be dedicated to searching for Ms. Chalice.
  • Elder Kettle finding out that The Devil is after Cuphead’s Soul.
    • and maybe he gives the boy the potion that powers the cup brother's up
  • The Devil finally captures Cuphead's soul by the ending of Season 2
  • King Dice fighting to reclaim his place as the Devil's number one
    • and maybe he does get his title by getting Cuphead
  • Ms. Chalice will reconcile with Cuphead and Mugman upon helping her out.
  • A bottle episode featuring Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice participating in a escape room challenge. Hilarity and wacky hi-jinks ensue in the process.
  • The season ends on another cliffhanger.
    • Correct.

King Dice will return with a grudge against Cuphead.
Because of him, he lost his (admittedly mostly self proclaimed) position as the Devil’s number one, as well as his spot as host of Roll the Dice. He’ll be working to either take Cuphead’s soul to get back in the Devil’s good graces, or working on his own but still trying to get his revenge. Either way, he’ll almost certainly show up in more episodes in the future, considering how popular a character he is.
  • And when he does, he’ll bring a few members of the King’s Court to aid him, different ones appearing every time he appears to try and steal Cuphead’s soul.
  • He does return in the episode "Release the Demons", albeit without the King's Court.

The Devil will appear in the season 2 premier.
To pay Cuphead a "visit" if he hears that he and Mugman have been locked up in prison.
  • Jossed.

The Devil will try to hunt down Mugman
Despite wanting to get Cuphead’s soul, he does also chase Mugman at the Carnival.
  • He straight up kidnaps Mugman at the end of Season 2.

Chef Saltbaker will be a major antagonist in Season 2.
Probably in the latter half of the second season. Also, in contrast to The Devil being mostly played for comedy and not really taken seriously by Cuphead and Mugman, Chef Saltbaker will be a much more dangerous obstacle for the brothers to face.
  • Jossed—Saltbaker doesn't even appear in the season.

Elder Kettle will find out that The Devil is after Cuphead's Soul
While he is not aware that The Devil is after Cupheads’s Soul, he will likely find out about it in Season 2. If he does, he will try to him Cuphead and Mugman from letting The Devil go after his soul.

    Season 3

Possible Season 3 Future Ideas
With both Season 2 and Season 3 announced, there are some possibilities of what might happen in Season 3.
  • Episodes featuring characters from the Delicious Last Course.
  • Mugman (and maybe Ms.Chalice) goes down to Inkwell Hell to rescue his brother (IF the devil gets a hold of his soul at the end of season 2)
  • An episode giving backstory to the Calix Animi

The show isn't just a tribute to Depression-era cartoons, it's also an allegory for the Great Depression.
The Devil represents the upper class thriving off the suffering of those "below" him.

Time Travel Episode featuring 1970's-1980's styles
One benefit of using the Depression Era cartoon format 70 years too late is that you know stuff that nobody in the 1930's had any idea would ever catch on. Instead of Zeerust, we get an Austin Powers expy waging war against a Skeletron expy.

Cala Maria and Captain Brineybeard will return with their roles switched
At some point, Cala Maria will succeed in her goal of becoming the most feared ocean beast, but growing bored in the process and finally decided to pursue a relationship with Brineybeard. But in a twist of irony, it is now he that has moved on with his life and possibly becoming more of a true pirate. Not to mention, his ship is now a sentient monster companion like in the game, thus giving Cala Maria some serious competition.
  • Additionally, Mugman will be conflicted on whether to help his friend or try and have Cala Maria all to himself.

Cuphead will have to trade his soul for Mugman.
The Devil will still want Cuphead’s soul for all the aggravation he’s caused despite his expired soul debt.

The Devil will be defeated in Season 3, and someone else will take his place as the show's Big Bad
By the Season 2 finale, it was revealed that the Devil is unable to take Cuphead's soul anymore—however, he instead decided to take Mugman hostage due to Cuphead messing around with his pitchfork. This could be the impetus of the final battle against the Devil—but if he's defeated in the Season 3 premiere (much like how the Season 2 premiere wrapped up the plotline from the Season 1 finale), we still need a new villain to take over for him. A likely choice is King Dice—he could use the Devil being out of commission to take over as Hell's ruler and fight the cups himself.
  • Or maybe it will be Chef Saltbaker? He is the final final boss of the whole game after all, as the DLC takes place after the Devil's defeat.
  • Jossed; the Devil's still the Big Bad as of the season's finale.

Mugman will get angry at Stickler
Mugman already got mad at two characters with buck teeth and bowties that were deliberately written to be annoying (Bowlboy and the Ice Cream Man), who's to say it won't happen a third time?

Cuphead will temporarily become the ruler of Hell
Cuphead will enter Hell to get Mugman back, only for all of the other demons to treat him like the new Devil due to him having the pitchfork. He is initially fine with the respect, but will find managing Hell too much of a trouble and the pitchfork will end up back in The Devil's hands.

Mugman will befriend/get along with Henchman
Henchman is pretty friendly for a demon so it's possible.

Mugman steal the invisible sweater from Stickler
He will use it to protect himself, it will also allow the Devil to hurt Stickler.

Season 3's finale will be a Series Fauxnale of some kind

The final episode of the season leads into the events of the video game
CONFIRMED. The season 3 finale ends with Cuphead running towards the Devil's casino and Mugman and Chalice chasing after him, thus kicking off the events of the Cuphead video game.

    Misc. Theories

This scene is from the intro
Probably a little obvious but oh well.
  • Confirmed.

The show will be a healthy balance of comedy and drama
It's clearly stated in the show's theme song, that show won't be too dramatic or too comedic. It will be a perfect balance of both.
If you're looking for fun (Yes we're looking for fun)!
And a dash of heebie-jeebies (We've got the heebie-jeebies)!
  • Seemingly confirmed. While the show is first and foremost a comedy and was billed as such, the episodes themselves tend to get a little intense and story-driven with each passing episode, even if it’s subtle. By the season finale, Ms. Chalice turns out to be a spirit/ghost, reluctantly leaves Cuphead and Mugman behind to get arrested, and the former’s soul is still on the line thanks to no longer having the invisible sweater. A rather sorrow turn despite what the show was advertising.

The show takes place after the events of the first game and before the events of Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course
  • False. This is set in its own continuity with the boys meeting the Devil, King Dice and other bosses for the first time.

Just the fact that the fandoms of Cuphead and Bendy and The Ink Machine get along really well, this game deserves a shout out in one of The Cuphead Show's episodes. If this happens, the creators of Bendy would be proud.

The show will go through Cerebus Syndrome at some point
Or at least a Continuity Creep.

The plot of the video game will be used for a movie
With some major changes of course, but the core plot of "Cuphead and Mugman collect soul contracts for the Devil" will remain the same. And depending on how Ms. Chalice's storyline in the show goes, the DLC's plot may be used for a sequel movie as well.

More characters will be added to the intro as the series progresses

The 48-episode order will be the entire story arc of Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice fighting against the Devil to unfold in three parts

The show is a secret prequel to the game
Everyone seems to write this off as an alternate continuity because of the major changes, when it could also just be building up to the plot of the game. At some point in the future, the Devil opens up a casino as a last bit effort to snag Cuphead’s soul. It works. But he allows them freedom on the terms that he collect the other debtor’s souls, forcing the boys to turn to Elder Kettle and Porkrind for advice and their iconic finger abilities.
  • Not to mention, the debtor’s motives to make deals with the Devil are now more fleshed out thanks to the show’s context. Brineybeard wants his ship to turn into a monster to try and impress Cala Maria, Werner wants to be bigger so he can invade homes more successfully, Baroness wants to leave Sugarland, etc.
  • But there's still the design changes to worry about

Most if not all of the antagonists will do a Heel–Face Turn
At the very least, the antagonist bosses (the debtors + DLC bosses if any of them appear in the show) could be redeemed to mirror their game counterparts being on good terms with the cups by the end of the game. Henchman is another likely possibility, if only because of how nice he is.

While it's true that some of them are murderers, considering how Saltbaker killed several sentient ingredients and attempted to kill the cup trio (and presumably has even more victims given the skulls in his dungeon) and he was redeemed, the others should probably be able to do the same.

The show will end with a Big Badass Final Battle against the Devil
Unlike the game where only the cup brothers faced him, (almost?) every one of Cuphead and co.'s friends, allies, redeemed antagonists, etc. will fight against the Devil, with the cups and the bosses getting a chance to show off their powers they've displayed in the game and maybe even some NPCs and Canon Foreigners getting to participate too. Given the Devil's capability of permanently killing other characters (as seen when he accidentally incinerated his first and second finest demons), at least one character could end up dying for real in this battle, and possibly even be unable to return as a ghost if the Devil eats their soul.

The invisible sweater will eventually run out of its protective power
The sweater is powered by Mugman's brotherly love for Cuphead, but with it far away from both brothers, its power will slowly drain until it's completely gone, leaving Stickler (its current wearer) open to the Devil's attacks. The only way for the sweater to be "recharged" is for Cuphead and/or Mugman (or another character with brotherly love for their sibling) to get their hands on it again.

There will be a Musical Episode at some point

At least one of the episodes will take place in the Astral Plane

Possible ideas bosses that could appear in future
Since we weren't given a few boss characters from the game that didn't appear in the show, there are a few who didn't appear are...

  • Djimmy the Genie
  • Beppi The Clown
  • Goopy Le Grande
  • Wally Warbles
  • Rumor Honeybottoms
  • Dr. Kahl and His Robot
  • The Phantom Express

The show is a show within the game's universe that was made after Cuphead and Mugman become famous for defeating the Devil
The finale may imply the show is a prequal, but there are way too many contradictions for this to be true. The main one being that Ms Chalice having different backstory, and meeting the brothers differently. These could be the result of the show runners changing elements of the story for whatever reasons. This could also explain some of the bad writing in the show, like Baroness Von Bon Bon explaining she is cursed, but not bringing it up again.

Whether the show is animated or live action (in-universe) is unknown, but eaither, it explains why a lot of the characters look different. Eaither, the designers drew them differently, or they are just actors pretending to be the characters.

The reason Baby Bottle is so violent is that no one was willing to change his diaper.
I have no real reason for this other than thinking it would be funny.

     Sequel Theories
Possible spin-offs Ideas
Well, since there are possibilities for Cuphead's future, there can be possibilities of the franchise having spin-off shows.
  • Ms. Chalice

There will be a sequel show properly adapting the game
The end of Season 3 sets up a possible proper adaptation of the game which the show is based off of, so it could be rather interesting to see how they pull it off. The DLC could also be adapted as well.
