Singular Stone is a Metroidvania and a Vocaloid fangame by Tohji Murakata, a Vocaloid producer. It was originally released as a Licensed Game at 2020, but since August 2021, it has been distributed digitally for free.

On a faraway planet that looks like Earth, there were a small inhabited island. The local people had been worshipping the Singular Stone since ancient times. However, suddenly a fleet of alien spaceships appeared and snatched the Stone away, unaware that they had unknowingly split the crystal containing the Prime Guardian, Miku. The half of the crystal turned into a mentally unstable entity called Magma Miku and starting a rampage spree, destroying the aliens' fleet in the process. Now it's up to the Guardians to stop the entity before the planet is destroyed.

The official site for the game is here note

This game contains examples of:

  • Ability Required to Proceed: True to its Metroidvania nature, certain areas required a specific character's ability or the Air Ball items for a specific character:
    • Many areas of the South Coast area, one of them contains Miku's Level 2 Skill Stone, is only accessible with Rin's flight ability, which unlocked at level 9 and requires her Level 2 Skill Stone.
    • Luka's Level 3 Skill Stone is only reachable from a blocked gate that's underwater, which only accessible to Len after finding a copy of Air Ball for him.
    • To fight the D.O.P.E, the Old Relics must be in snowing mode, but the platform where Miku can transform is accessed via an underwater portal, which requires her copy of Air Ball.
  • The Alcoholic: the very first thing Meiko said when reunited with Kaito and Len is asking for a drink.
  • Alliterative Title
  • All There in the Manual: Many are provided in the various supplement files in the download, including maps for every areas in the game. There are even a list of every enemies in the game, albeit it came untranslated in Japanese.
  • Amplifier Artifact: the Skill Stones. They provided the cap of a given character's level.
  • Attack Its Weakpoint: the Dragon bosses are only vulnerable at their heads and tails.
  • Auto-Revive: The Emergency Recovery item recovers your HP from 0 once to full health. It can be restored by entering a tent.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space : Rin and Len can survive just fine when they're accidentally brought to the space by the aliens.
  • Bears Are Bad News: the Wild Bears found in the East Forest moves fast and can deals a lot of damage. They are gone if you use Miku to switch the map into Snow mode, however.
  • Beef Gate: The Keeper enemies (rocks with face) in the Canyon are this when you play as Kaito for the first time.
  • Big Eater: In the opening sequences, Rin is seen buying a lot of snacks from a stall.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: The game's dialogue is seemingly translated with machine translation, resulting in rather mangled lines and awkward grammar.
  • Body to Jewel: the Guardians can turn into a crystal in peaceful times.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing:
    • the lone orange Skyfish in the Canyon, when it's not snowy. It moves very fast, has high HP, and deal a lot of damage especially for early game. There's even a set of platforms specifically designed to avoid it.
    • One of the Floating Rocks in the room accessible near the Canyon's portal to North Lake has defense stat on par with endgame enemies. If you "kill" it, it transform into Will-O-Wisp, a very powerful enemy that can deal 9999 damage, the highest damage in the whole game.
  • Cartoon Bomb : Len's bombs looks like a typical spherical cartoon bomb with a burning fuse. His fixed bombs use the same sprite, even though it's manually detonated like a remote bomb.
  • Character Select Forcing: You practically need to use Meiko to get Rin's Level 2 Skill Stone in the East Forest. You need to fight a Dual Boss whose area entrance are underwater. Meiko's Air Ball is easily found at North Lake using Luka. For the boss battle, only Meiko could deal major damage to the bosses at that point.
  • Classical Elements Ensemble: Except Miku, each of the characters are assigned as a guardian of an element. Meiko is the Fire Guardian, Kaito is the Earth Guardian , Luka is the Water Guardian, and both of Rin and Len are the Wind Guardians. Though most of them has no direct relevance to gameplay except Luka and maybe Rin.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Meiko, Kaito, and Miku respectively used martial arts, a sword, and prehensile hair, all have short reach. They later downplayed this, but with different ways:
    • Meiko and Kaito gained projectile attack (energy balls and sword beams respectively) at higher levels. However, the projectile took several moments after the initial attack before it goes off.
    • Miku can switch her attack to fire a freezing laser beam, but only when she had both the Emergency Recovery and her Armor and then took a fatal hit. Also, she must be in her Snow mode.
  • Convection, Schmonvection : walking in the Volcano area wouldn't hurt you, even with lava flowing on the entire stage. The only exception is falling into magma during the Magma Miku battle.
  • Cosmic Keystone : The damage caused by the aliens to the Stone and the subsequent assimilation by Magma Miku cause the planet's entire biosphere to go haywire because the Stone is actually a terraforming machine
  • Cowardly Boss : when you initiate the fight with the D.O.P.E, it will run away and going into the teleport portal (only accessible to you in snowy map). Then, you must chase it around the sub-area and attack it before it flee gain. Do this several times and the boss will finally stop and waiting at the large hall for a proper battle.
  • Critical Hit Class: Rin's critical hit damage multiplier increases much faster than everyone else. This allows her to reach the maximum damage multiplier far earlier and deals a lot of damage when lands a crit. That being said, her base attack and critical hit chance are rather low, at least until level 20s.
  • Disconnected Side Area:
    • In the West Ocean area, the second part of the deep sea portion is only accessible from North Lake. You need to find the Airball item for Len, since one of the portals is blocked.
    • A small room containing the Accelerator for Kaito is only accessible from a portal in the Volcano, the final area of the game.
  • Dual Boss:
    • The Major Rolling Rocks in East Forest is fought in pair. The male (with red dot at its center) has higher attack, while the female has higher HP. You only need to defeat one of them
    • The Dragons in snowing North Lake also come in pairs, though you need to kill both.
  • Experience Booster: the Accelerator items doubles amount of XP gained from killing enemies.
  • Flunky Boss : The Major Rolling Rocks summon lesser Rolling Rocks in their battle. The reds are Glass Cannon, the yellows are Jack of All Stats, while the blues are Stone Wall
  • Flying Seafood Special : the Skyfish enemies looks like a flying eels. There are two types, all in the Canyon. The first one is orange which is solitary and only appears if it's not snowy, and another one is blue which found in groups and appears if it's snowy.
  • From Bad to Worse : First the aliens came and trying to steal the Stone. Because of that, Miku's crystal body was split into two. One of the pieces become Magma Miku went berserk, merges with the Stone, and decides to cause massive volcanic eruption. Then, an Eldritch Abomination that they sealed 15,000 years ago in Old Relics breaks free thanks to the seal broken by the damage to the Stone.
  • Fusion Dance : At the end of the game, the playable Miku perform this with a weakened Magma Miku to become one again.
  • Fun with Acronyms: the Demon of Parallel Existence boss is also known as D.O.P.E.
  • Harmless Enemy: The robot enemies encountered in North Lake (yellow) and West Ocean, unlike the red ones encountered with Meiko, aren't aggressive and mostly just here as a target practice for Len and Luka, respectively. They completely disappear after Miku is awakened.
  • Healing Spring : Recovery Fountains found at some areas can restores your current character to full HP.
  • Heroic BSoD : As he fall down from the alien ship into the planet, all Len wishes was to go back home. At least until Miku snaps him out of it.
  • Hub Level : The Small Town serves as this after Miku is awakened. It connects to several areas except the Volcano and West Ocean.
  • It's All My Fault : Len blames himself for forgetting his duty to protect the Singular Stone from the aliens.
  • Kamehame Hadouken: At higher levels, Meiko gained this ability as ranged attack.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Rin and Len turned out to be a pair of Guardians created by the Singular Stone to anticipate the aliens' attack, but they forgot and ended up goofing around.
  • Literal Split Personality: the aliens accidentally splits Miku's crystal into two, causing her to become two separate entities. One is mentally unstable and become the hammy Magma Miku who going to triggers massive volcanic eruption, while the another become Snow Miku who is playable.
  • Oculothorax :
    • the Marimo (moss ball) enemies in the North Lake, which are red in normal map and green in snowy map. They slowly stalk you as you exploring the underwater maze. The reds are particularly dangerous because they deal a lot of damage.
    • the Minion enemies in the Old Relics chases you on sight and only stops in certain range. The red ones appears in normal map and like to drop from offscreen to caught you off-guard. Meanwhile, the white ones only appers in snowy map dan swarm at the Giant Leek boss area.
  • Precision F-Strike : Len mutters "hell" when he was thrown out from the aliens' ship in space. Notable as it's the only swearing that 'isn't' from Magma Miku.
  • Prehensile Hair: Miku attacks enemies by impaling them with her hardened hair. Her attack range is the shortest from all characters, but has fast attack rate and damages all enemies in its reach.
  • Rare Random Drop : The Armors for Meiko, Kaito, and Len are obtained from specific enemies in Old Relics at 1/16 chance.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni : The two Mikus contrasting each other in many ways. Magma Miku is loud and hammy, has magma and lava powers, and is an antagonist, meanwhile Snow Miku is calm though still cheerful, can makes snow fall in a map, and is one of the protagonists.
  • Scratch Damage : Averted. Your attack cannot damage an enemy if its power is lower than the enemy's defense.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can : The D.O.P.E was sealed by Kaito, Meiko, and Miku 15,000 years ago. However, the seal was weakened because the damage on the Singular Stone.
  • Sequence Breaking : If you have unlocked Rin's flight ability, you can use her to cross the high wall at the Old Ruin's sub-area that connects to the Canyon, bypassing the "All character's Skill Stones must be at Level 2" requirement.
  • Snowlems : Appears in snowy version of East Forest. They're weaker than the Wild Bears and their movement is more predictable, but cannot be hit until they notice you
  • Spoiler Cover : You see the large Miku at the cover image? It's her true form after she become one again.
  • Stupidity Is the Only Option : in the Old Relics area, there is a leek standing conspicuously like it was an item. It was an obvious trap since it doesn't have the arrow indicator like the Recovery Fountains or actual items, but you must fall for it anyway to fight the Giant Leek boss.
  • Super Drowning Skills: All characters who don't have the Air Ball item took constant 1/4 damage of their max HP if they entered deep water bodies.
  • Telepathy : Miku's subconsciousness in Magma Miku is shown can mentally communicate to Rin and Len.
  • Time Abyss : When the Guardians examine Miku's split crystal, Kaito reminisce the times he, Miku, and Meiko had been protecting the Stone for 2 million years.
  • Underground Monkey : Some of the enemies has alternate version that appears if the map is snowing or not. One of the notable ones is the Skyfish, with the blue one appears in group in snowing mode and rather weak, while the orange one is solitary, only appears when it's not snowy, and is much more powerful and faster.
  • Weather Manipulation: Miku's ability is to switch between her normal and Snow form at a dedicated platform with a snowflake symbol, which also affect the map and changes what enemies will appear. At level 16, Snow Miku gains additional ability to create ice platform at fixed spot at each map, providing access to normally inaccessible area.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning : the D.O.P.E can shoot both blue and yellow lightning during its boss battle. The yellow one is much more powerful than its blue lightning.
