- Heroes from two worlds:
- At first, this story looks like any other crossover between Marvel Cinematic Universe and Arrowverse, so the appearance of Logan is a surprise already.
- Then four of the characters fall into Middle-earth while Sauron and Morgoth make appearances, meaning this is beyond the realm of superheroes now, and from here on, it slowly turns into a Massive Multiplayer Crossover.
- Heroes stand united:
- A Wonder Woman based on the DCEU version and a Batman and Catwoman based on The Dark Knight Trilogy versions appear on Earth-38 and Earth-1 respectively.
- Blade appears on Earth-199999.
- The numerous villains Thanos brings back to life aren't people anyone expected to see again.
- Accelerated Man appears, and he is the doppelganger of Zoom.
- And there's also Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider of Earth-199999 in the final battle.
- Of Speedsters and Forces:
- While speedsters were expected, ones like Pietro Maximoff joining probably was not.
- And while the younger X-Men were obviously coming, the Fantastic Four being on the same world is a surprise.
- A certain breed of Dragons appearing was certainly a surprise here.
- Lena Luthor is revealed to be a disguise adopted by Morgana in the post-credits scene.
- Heroes, Magicians and Luthors:
- Merlin reveals himself to also be Romestamo the Blue Wizard.
- Doctor Fate makes his debut in this story.
- As does Jason Blood/Etrigan, and he has history with Merlin too.
- Devil Dinosaur appears too.
- More than one Spider-Man:
- While it was obvious that the three Spider-Men of live-action are appearing, Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara are a surprise.
- As is Moon Knight who makes his debut.
- Earth-199999 Gwen Stacy appears for the first time too.
- And in the post-credits scenes, the Earth-199999 versions of Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn and Venom are introduced.
- As well as John Constantine from the 2005 Constantine movie, and he is the Smallville version of the character too. Earth-2002 Doctor Strange also comes in here.
- One too many Dark Knights:
- Everyone expected all the live-action Batmen, Catwomen, Deathstrokes as well as the Titans to appear, but no one expected The Batman Who Laughs to be the main antagonist, as it seemed like Earth-9 Deathstroke would be the antagonist at first.
- And then Earth-99 Batman of all people makes an appearance too.
- Terry McGinnis is introduced in a post-credits scene as well.
- While Dormammu is already confirmed to be the next big villain, him being the master of The Batman Who Laughs is a surprise for sure.
- A Venomous Conspiracy:
- Once more, Moon Knight is an unexpected addition when he is the one Matt Murdock calls to help out in finding Gwen Stacy, not to mention he also steals the show this time.
- Rise of the Great Demon:
- The Blue Wizard Morinehtar is revealed to be Balthazar Blake.
- Maxim Horvath happens to work for Dormammu as well.
- The adventures of Deadpool, his BFF, a rock and a weird bug thing:
- Since the main events of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy are already over, the appearance of Tom Bombadil comes as a surprise.
- The canon of Arrowverse is no longer followed in this series, so Ralph Dibny coming in is pretty surprising too.
- And then the protagonists end up in the world of the Terminator movies.
- A Game of Doom
- The Buffyverse is properly introduced in the post-credits scenes and the next story, yet alternate versions of Lindsey McDonald appear on any Earth where Wolfram and Hart exists.
- The First Evil is one of the entities Doom made a deal with.
- And then there's the Silver Surfer and the other Heralds of Galactus.
- Heroes, Vampires and Slayers:
- Since the series was ignoring the comics mostly, the appearance of Warren Mears is a surprise to all.
- Patty Spivot is back after all this time, and she is a Slayer as well.
- Lucifer and some of his supporting cast end up appearing in this story without any hint beforehand.
- Tara Maclay has been dead for quite some time now, but returns as a spirit, and is resurrected soon enough.
- Jenny Calendar appears as a spirit too.
- Arrival of the Devourer:
- Michael Myers has a cameo in one of Strange's visions.
- Two Worlds' Finest:
- Earth-50 Martian Manhunter aka General Swanwick comes in, along with Earth-50 Hal Jordan.
- Of Heroes and Charlatans:
- The Superman from Lois & Clark appears in a post-credits scene, and is already well-acquainted with the other Supermen and Steve. The side-story shows the introduction of him and his Lois.
- An alternate mirror Universe is shown where Superman is played by Chris Evans. Marvel characters are played by DC actors and DC characters by Marvel actors in this world.
- Never alone:
- Marvel's Hercules makes his debut in this series.
- Norman Osborn is revealed to be collaborating with Agatha Harkness.
- The Bats against the Demon:
- Out of all characters who could have possibly appeared, its Ace the Bat-Hound.
- More than just an identity:
- Yelena Belova makes her debut in this story, at Madripoor of all places.
- The Contest of Champions:
- Pavitr Prabhakar is here and friends with Earth-2002 Spider-Man. The side-story covers his introduction.
- And an Earth-50 Supergirl is here too, and like Pavitr, her introduction is covered in the side-story.
- The Originals get woken up by Thor.
- The Ghost Rider from the movies comes in too at this point.
- Lorne is shown watching the Contest, and seeing Cordelia alive inspires him to return at last.
- Some of Grandmaster's Champions include Beta Ray Bill and Earth-199999 Ares.
- Horus appears to help out in the final battle.
- King in Black:
- Kate Bishop appears in the opening fight scene alongside some other Heroes.
- While he has already been introduced in the side-story, Lord Vishnu/Lord Krishna appearing in this story is pretty unexpected, especially with the aid he provides.
- The Dagda comes in to save the ones dying from Knull's attack.
- Heroes from Infinite Earths:
- Up until now, only live-action franchises were part of this series. So Universes based on cartoons, video games, anime and novels having cameos all at once is something of a shock.
- Even with the live-action Universes, many of them are completely unexpected, including some live-action Marvel and DC worlds.
- Lord Vishnu/Lord Krishna is revealed to be a manifestation of God at this point.
- Prue Halliwell returns as a spirit to guide Thor after all this time.
- While the Spectre appearing was a possibility, no one expected it would be Leonard Snart!
- When Heroes live their lives:
- Even if the other two Punishers of live-action were expected to appear, them being on the same Earths as the other two Spider-Men probably was not.
- Willow and Tara reunite with Miss Kitty Fantastico after all this time.
- Since until now this was a Massive Multiplayer Crossover between various franchises, Gods from various religions, starting with Lord Vishnu/Lord Krishna coming in is a huge surprise.
- Morbius exists on Earth-2012 and appears in a dream of Peter.
- Dream makes his debut in Chapter 37.
- Earth-50 Eobard Thawne comes in as well in Chapter 43.
- Since the events of Legacies are averted, no one would have expected the appearance of Ken.
- An Earth based on Injustice appears in one chapter.
- And a Crime Syndicate Earth appears too.
- DC's Hercules makes an appearance in Chapter 53.
