Ukefication / Western Animation

Go To

  • Robin from Young Justice (2010) will fall victim of this whenever paired with Superboy. While in canon he can be quite calculating.
    • Wally West falls victim whenever he is the star of a hurt/comfort fic. Despite the fact that he has moments of being a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass.
  • Poor, poor Prince Zuko. Some fics take the "Zuko never tops" meme and amp it up, mostly Jet/Zuko fics in which Zuko is Jet's submissive little butt-boy... or worse, babymama. The really bizarre thing about this is that before Zuko and Jet actually met in canon, Zuko usually topped.
    • Aang himself gets this too.
    • Interestingly enough, Mako gets this treatment in The Legend of Korra fics when paired with Korra. Korra being dominant in their relationship became such a trend that some fanfics would even specify which one of them was dominant in the fic, which is a first for fiction about a heterosexual pairing.
  • The Dragon Prince:
    • Callum is a frequent victim of this in fics that pair him with Rayla. A particularly egregious example since the focal point of Callum's entire character arc is him becoming more confident and realizing he has far more potential and strength than he initially thought. Many fics stall or even reverse Callum's character development, reducing him to an emotional puddle and a weak pushover who never grows past his insecurities, and who needs Rayla to protect him and handle everything for him. This has continued despite the fact that canon has long since moved in a different direction, where Callum has consistently become stronger and more capable over time.
    • Going in the opposite direction, some others make Rayla the distressed damsel who sits around and worries while Callum gets to do all the cool stuff. Are some people allergic to equal pairings and Battle Couples?
  • Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb gets this occasionally when paired with Doofenshmirtz. This tends to come from people noticing that if Perry were human, he'd probably not have the ability to talk and only be about 28 years old, in contrast to Doof being somewhere in his 40's. Despite that, in canon, Doof is generally more sensitive and there's several episodes where Doof is more self-conscious about his masculinity, while Perry's generally quite tough and masculine, as much as a platypus can be.
  • Kyle Broflovski, Butters Stotch and Tweek Tweak from South Park. Especially Kyle.
  • 2D from Gorillaz has this fate due to the fact that he's described as a pretty, dumb, naive boy. Since he's most commonly shipped with Murdoc, well, he definitely gets to be the bottom.
  • Dib from Invader Zim got this so much someone on DeviantArt responded by making a club dedicated to making him the seme, with a corresponding club for the more traditional Zim-seme.
    • Purple also gets this in RAPR works, which Flanderize the fact that he's somewhat goofier than Red to ridiculous extremes.
  • Total Drama:
    • Noah often gets this, especially when paired with someone like Duncan or Alejandro. His trademark cutting remarks are often downplayed as him just being "sassy", and his laziness is extrapolated into him not standing up for himself and just letting things happen to him (which evokes Men Act, Women Are). Noah/Cody fics and especially Noah/Owen fics don't tend to have this problem, though.
    • Speaking of Cody, he's an odd case. In male/male fanfics, he's usually shoehorned into the uke role because he's a Tiny Schoolboy, and is given a "small" personality (i.e. shy and insecure) to match his size. Canonically, though, Cody possesses an incredible amount of self-confidence and thinks he's way cooler and more attractive than he actually is; thus, said depictions of Cody can feel out-of-character. By contrast, male/female fanfics involving Cody will often go in the opposite direction, making Cody into moreso what he thinks he is rather than what he actually is.
  • The title character of Ben 10 gets a lot of this, mostly when he's paired off with Kevin; this is mostly due to him being the shorter of the two per typical slashfic rules. It doesn't help that there are at least two episodes in canon where he ends up acting over-emotional around Kevin, even though both times it's established he's Not Himself (in "Save the Last Dance", he was pregnant and the resultant motherly instincts had taken over; in "Duped", he'd been split into three clones based on different aspects of his personality and Kevin got stuck with the sensitive one).
  • Skwisgaar. Despite the brutal nature of the show, it's extremely rare to find a fic that doesn't write him as a weeping, self-harming schoolgirl who only needs the healing light of cock. Charles and Pickles occasionally suffer from this, though it's usually Pickles and his family problems that turn him into a submissive, spineless, crying uke, bonus points if there's incest with his scumbag brother, Seth.
  • Edd from Ed, Edd n Eddy gets hit with this. He gets turned from a sensitive guy to an all-around stereotypical uke; often with an exaggerated Edd, Eddy, or Kevin as the seme. Eddy gets this to, sometimes even when Edd is the Seme; though typically when he's paired with Kevin or sometimes Ed. He gets turned from his brash normal self into a blushing Tsundere. Occasionally Jimmy will also turned into a uke, though he's similar to the Butter's examples, even with Sara, listed above and has become more masculine (or at least aggressive) over the series.
  • Robin from Teen Titans (2003) often gets this when paired with Slade. Canonically, he's a serious, if somewhat Hot-Blooded, and capable leader. In Slash Fic, he's often written as naive and submissive.
  • Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) from X-Men: Evolution. True, he is a lot more feminine, and also fits the stereotype of the traditional uke more than his usual slash partner Lance (Avalanche). But that doesn't mean he needs to turn into a weepy teenage girl in so many Lance and Pietro fanfics.
