  • Near-Villain Victory: Zombizou manages to infect both Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady thanks to the latter's attempts to attack Marinette; had Marigold not ended up getting her Next Tier Power-Up, the akuma would've won.
  • Nerf: Discussed in the notes for the 13th page of "Reflekta," where the author comments that the canon episode "nerfed Chat Noir" (by Reflekta-izing him) because of how easy it would have been for Chat (who has Innate Night Vision) to win against Reflekta once she turned off the lights—which is what happens when Maotif (Marinette with the Cat ring) goes up against her.
  • Never My Fault:
    • No matter what happens, Chloé simply refuses to accept responsibility for the consequences of her actions:
      • When Tikki tries to call Chloé out on her Disproportionate Retribution against Alya in "Lady Wifi," Chloé simply insists the other girl brought it on herself (even though Alya simply suspected Marinette was Scarlet Lady instead of Chloé and didn't even do anything to Chloé).
      • Scarlet Lady dismisses the notion that she should be blamed for Théo's akumatization, declaring that he's just Not Good with Rejection.
      • When Chloé is found to have copied Marinette's design for the hat contest, she attempts to throw Sabrina under the bus by insisting it was all her idea. She does this again when the class discovers Sabrina's hand caught in Marinette's diary trap in "Darkblade."
      • Chloé blames Chat Noir and Rogercop when she plummets towards the ground after falling out of the akuma's Flying Car when one of the rear doors opens during Chat Noir's attempted rescue. However, she was the one who got herself and Marinette kidnapped in the first place when she willingly got inside the akuma's car after throwing Marinette in, all because she was hellbent on getting Marinette arrested for theft despite lacking any proof. Moreover, Chloé didn't bother putting on her seat belt once the car took flight, something Marinette even pointed out to her just moments earlier.
      • After tossing away Alix's watch and letting it shatter, Chloé sneers that it never would've happened if Alix hadn't trusted "the blogger" or "Clumsinette" to take care of it. Alya and Adrien retort that she was the one who took it and threw it to the ground, but Alix blames everyone involved.
      • Upon learning Adrien's been grounded for losing his father's book, Chloé declares it's Lila's fault for stealing it. Chloé had a perfect opportunity to retrieve the book (which she even saw Lila steal from Adrien) after Lila had thrown it away but refused because she was disgusted that it had been fished out of the trash and decided to get revenge on Lila instead.
      • Chloé is responsible for Wang Cheng's akumatization in "Kung Food," but when he's about to turn her into a soup ingredient, she claims she did nothing to deserve it. Moreover, when Tikki finally finds Chloé after the latter has been tied up by Kung Food's minions and dangled over boiling soup, Chloé angrily asks where the Kwami's been, even though she was the one who left her purse in the kitchen with Tikki inside.
      • She insists that she never messes up and puts all the blame on Sabrina for getting akumatized in "Vanisher," but by then, Sabrina has decided they are no longer friends. Later, Chloé disclaims responsibility for not being able to help as Scarlet Lady when she gets tied up in her civilian identity or kidnapped by akumas, which would probably hold more water if she had actually pulled her weight when she did show up and hadn't been behind the akumatizations of a lot of the villains who threatened her. She just declares that it isn't her fault the akumas are jealous of her.
Tikki: Pretty sure jealousy's not the problem.
      • In "Dark Cupid," Chloé claims that Kim has no reason to have anything against her, completely forgetting that she, at least to her knowledge, coldly rejected him earliernote .
      • Chloé triggers her father's akumatization in "Malediktator" by declaring she'll leave Paris over his inability to close down the school and banish Zoé over the latter not knowing who Scarlet Lady is, which upsetted André enough for him to get akumatized. Chloé later claims her father's akumatization was Zoé's fault for letting their classmates gang up on her and Scarlet Lady.
    • Played for Laughs with the mistake that sets the whole AU into motion:
Master Fu: ...this one is not my fault, Wayzz.
Wayzz: Master, would it not have been wiser to put it in her room or-
      Master Fu: NOT MY FAULT!!
    • In "Rogercop," Tom tries to call out Alya for not stopping Chloé from dragging Marinette to the akuma. Alya points out he didn't either. Moreover, earlier, Tom had told Marinette to let the adults handle things.
    • It's from hearing Timebreaker shout "My watch!" that the second timeline's Chloé drops Alix's watch, but Timebreaker blames it on Chat Noir.
    • Adrien is mad at Lila for stealing the book, even if he stole it from his father in the first place.
    • Lila blames the entire episode-long Humiliation Conga she received in "Volpina" on Scarlet Lady, ignoring her own screw-ups:
      • The beginning of her Humiliation Conga was entirely her own fault, as she stole Adrien's father's book of her own volition and then threw it away to dispose of the evidence in an attempt to win Adrien over, failing to notice from his expression that he hates the heroine. Adrien Spot the Thread in her lies all on his own and angrily called her out on it before Scarlet Lady even showed up.
      • While Scarlet Lady's Disproportionate Retribution was unjustified, Lila was still the one who lied about being friends with the heroine in the first place. Plus, since she let her lies be posted on Alya's blog, even if Scarlet Lady weren't an Alpha Bitch, it was only a matter of time before Lila's Celebrity Lie got exposed. She also failed to research Scarlet Lady's actions and mentality before making her claim, which might have also led her to finding out that the heroine is a Stalker with a Crush to Adrien.
      • When Adrien throws her, Scarlet, and Marinette out of his room, Volpina and Scarlet Lady blame each other for their respective unwanted intrusions getting them kicked out... despite the fact that only Marinette was invited in Adrien's room.
      • Lila, once she returns to normal and is on the receiving end of a Breaking Speech by Scarlet Lady, refuses the Ladybug heroine and Chat Noir's aid in getting down from the building they were on out of spite, thus not getting home and drying off in time to avoid catching a cold, something she blames Scarlet Lady for... which is right, given Scarlet Lady threw her into a fountain in the first place. Still, if she had swallowed her pride and asked Chat Noir for a lift, she might have gotten one and stuck it to Scarlet Lady who the better hero of Paris was.
    • Alya blames Lila for lying on her blog, ignoring the fact that she was the one who chose to post her classmate's claims without doing any fact-checking first.
    • In "Silencer," Bob Roth says the mess he's involved with is Kitty Section's fault for not allowing him to copy their work.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Cornered in "Zombizou," Marigold unlocks a new power: "Bee Balm," which releases a bee swarm which can undo akuma effects on people, such as zombification.
  • Newspaper-Thin Disguise: Chloé hides behind a newspaper to spy on her classmates in "Animan." Right after she describes her plan as "so original and genius," it's revealed to the readers that another person (presumably Master Fu) is using the same trick while sitting next to her.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • In "Timebreaker," Marinette threatens to record Scarlet Lady staying on a ledge away from the villain and expose her laziness. Scarlet responds by jumping down to yell at her, allowing Timebreaker to touch the heroine, meaning that without time travel, there would be no World-Healing Wave. Marinette's reaction says it all.
    • Tikki set the events of "Rogercop" in motion when she kicked Plagg out of Chloé's bag, causing Chloé's bracelet to get stuck on his head and thus go missing.
    • Chat Noir's attempt to rescue Chloé and Marinette from Rogercop results in the latter falling out of the akuma's flying car. She would've died if she weren't the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous.
    • Subverted in "The Collector." Marinette hears about Adrien being in trouble for losing his father's book and goes to the Agreste mansion to try and get Gabriel to reverse Adrien's punishment, telling him that she already found the book and returned it to Adrien. This all happens right as Adrien is about to tell Gabriel that he found the book, having just gotten it back after giving it to Master Fu shortly after Marinette returned it, so he can only corroborate her story by pulling the book out of his bag and lying he's had it all along. Gabriel then asks why he didn't say anything earlier, putting Adrien in the difficult position of being unable to reveal the truth but also looking suspicious if he doesn't give a reason for not mentioning sooner that the book had been found. Fortunately, Adrien pulls off a Seamless Spontaneous Lie and convinces the two that it was because his father wouldn't have listened even if he had tried to tell him.
    • Mme. Bustier nearly ruins Marinette's birthday party in "La Befana" by forcing the class to invite Chloé as well. Later, Scarlet Lady's presence prevents Chat Noir from getting Marinette to safety, resulting in Marinette being turned into coal by La Befana.
    • Scarlet Lady leads Riposte right to Marigold by chasing after her fellow hero, demanding to know where she hid Adrien.
    • Kim unintentionally causes Ondine's akumatization when he casually mentions Chloé as he rushes to meet the class at the movies, causing Ondine to wrongly assume he has a crush on Chloé.
    • In "Pixelator," Chat Noir has managed to sneak up on the villain and is about to steal his akuma, only for Scarlet Lady to yell at him and accidentally alert Pixelator to Chat's presence.
    • Mme. Bustier gets akumatized into Zombizou after receiving a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech from Marinette, who accuses her teacher of being Chloé's enabler. The class doesn't blame Marinette for it, though, reassuring her that her anger was justified and that they're also aware of their teacher's shortcomings.
    • Chat Noir and the class's refusal to just give Marinette up to Zombizou prevents Marinette from running off to transform into Marigold until just about everyone else has been infected. On the other hand, their actions were instrumental to her unlocking, "Bee Balm," her Next Tier Power-Up.
    • Also in "Zombizou," Scarlet Lady attempting to push Marinette into some of the zombies results in Chat Noir becoming a victim while protecting her. This also leads to Scar herself getting kissed by Chat Noir when she's too focused on trying to get Marinette infected, leading to a Near-Villain Victory.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain:
    • Reflekta has a critical moment of this when she has Chat Noir cornered in a locker and uses her powers on him without opening the door. Had she done so, she would have caught Adrien Agreste without the Ring, as he'd just sent Plagg off with it. This decision saves his secret identity and pisses off Hawk Moth over her failure to grab the ring before converting him into one of her clones.
    • Despair Bear, possessing Scarlet Lady, makes her invoke "Lucky Charm." This produces a fork that Marigold and Chat Noir can use to unravel his costume and defeat him. If he had kept Scar silent, they would have been unable to get the object. They could still defeat him, but they wouldn't have been able to undo any side damage.
    • Scarlet Lady trying to get Marinette to fall victim to Zombizou's infection causes her to get infected herself. This leads to Marigold unlocking a new power out of desperation from her panic at the fact that Scar can't undo the akuma's effects anymore.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished:
    • Marinette tries to reason with Bubbler to prevent a fight between him and Scarlet Lady. He responds by trapping her in a bubble and sending her to space with his other victims.
    • Copycat kidnaps Marinette after she calls him out as an imposter of the real Chat Noir.
    • Marinette saves Sabrina from Horrificator at the cost of getting caught herself.
    • Downplayed in "The Gamer." Nino joins Max's Ultimate Mecha Strike III tournament just to boost the numbers and draw more attention to it. Max rewards him by making a snide comment about his low score.
    • Played for Laughs when Adrien belatedly realizes that by insisting to D'Argencourt that Kagami be given a second chance, he missed out on an opportunity to have Marinette join the fencing team instead.
    • Nathaniel decides to warn the art club about Zombizou, only for her to follow him there, leading to both him and the club members getting infected.
  • No Ontological Inertia: "Timebreaker" had Scarlet Lady get touched by the villain, but drops her yo-yo in surprise, so it doesn't fade away with her. This allows Marinette to create a way for Chat Noir to travel back in time with Timebreaker, and he still has the yo-yo after that until the World-Healing Wave.
  • No-Sell:
    • Chloé's attempts to throw her weight around don't work on the photographer at Adrien's photoshoot in "Stormy Weather." Instead, he sasses her taste in clothes.
    • Similarly, Chloé using her father to threaten Roger's job a second time fails, as by then, Roger and Sabrina know that firing him is outside the mayor's jurisdiction.
    • When Audrey is told in "Style Queen" that she took Marinette's reserved seat, Chloé tries to "take charge" of the situation by invoking You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With about her mother to shoo her classmates in the first row out of their seats so Audrey can sit where she wants. Nobody's impressed by her attempt, and her sister Zoé even facepalms in embarrassment.
  • Noble Demon: Evillustrator believes in keeping promises, provided the other side upholds their end as well.
  • Nominal Hero: Chloé is technically a superhero, but she's vain, cruel, utterly incompetent, and only in it for fame and glory.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Despite the title, the series is still more Marinette and Adrien's story. Except now, prior to her becoming Marigold, Marinette doesn't have the powers to really fight akuma and often has to provide support while Chat Noir does a majority of the heavy lifting. Chloé "helps" from time to time but is far more worthless than in the canon series. Being near useless in a fight, mocking people in her hero persona, and hanging back from the danger, she's treated more like a necessary annoyance since her Lucky Charm and Miraculous are still needed to defeat akumas and repair their damage. Yet she still gets the credit after everything's said and done, much to Chat Noir's chagrin, at least until the other heroes grow in popularity and people begin wising up to the Ladybug heroine's true nature.
  • Noodle Incident: Fang apparently ruined Bob Roth's car in the past, which is why Jagged is helping Chloé in her bid for class representative. He still thinks it was Worth It.
  • NOT!:
    • Chloé pulls this on Rose when she asks her to deliver a love letter to Prince Ali.
Rose: Could you give him this letter?
Chloé: But of course!....NOT! [rips the letter in half]
    • Zoé offers to go with Malediktator if he agrees to stop terrorizing Paris. The akuma replies, "Absolutely~ NOT!" as he tries to brainwash her.
  • Not Cheating Unless You Get Caught: When Adrien and Plagg steal Gabriel's book on Tibet and Adrien asks if rebellion is "supposed to feel like you're gonna barf," Plagg answers "Only if you get caught".
  • Not So Above It All: Tikki takes a great deal of pleasure in making Chloé's life difficult as retribution for the latter being a terrible hero.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Sabrina says Chloé is like Lila after she tries to fake a BFF relationship with Scarlet Lady to get a TV interview.
Chloé: Me and that liar are not the same!
Sabrina: Yes you are! You care more about your made up friendship than about ours!
  • Not What It Looks Like: Kim tries to declare his love for Ondine in "Dark Cupid," but Chloé, due to herself mistakingly thinking Kim is try ask her out instead, causes Ondine to misunderstand the situation.

    O
  • Obviously Not Fine: Marigold was shocked when she saw a video clip of her being kissed by Chat Noir. He explains it was just to free her from the control of Dark Cupid.
Chat Noir: I'm really sorry. You can punch me if you want.
Marigold: It's fine. It was just because of the akuma, right? It didn't mean anything, so let's drop it.
  • Odd Name Out:
    • "Origins: Part 2" is the only episode so far that uses a character's superhero identity (Chat Noir) in the subtitle rather than their civilian name.
    • The subtitle of "Sapotis" is simply "Tales of the Césaire Twins," breaking the comic's "Tales of (X) the (Y) theme. Similarly, the subtitle of "Crocoduel" is "Tales of You Two Again?!"
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The webcomic often skips over battle details that would have been about the same as the show.
    • In one strip, Marinette suggests to Chat Noir that he Cataclysm the Gamer's mecha—in the next strip, "Hey, it worked!"
    • "Princess Fragrance" has Marigold easily defeats the brainwashed Chat Noir, Kagami, Mayor Bourgeois and Prince Ali's assistant offscreen.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Master Fu and Wayzz when they realize Marinette didn't get the Ladybug Miraculous.
    • Alec Cataldi when Stormy Weather sneaks up on him with a Nightmare Face after realizing he rigged the Weather Girl contest against her.
    • Tikki and Plagg both sport these expressions when they encounter each other inside Chloé's purse in "Rogercop," as Plagg now knows Scarlet Lady's secret identity. Additionally, Tikki has this reaction again when she kicks Plagg out of Chloé's purse, realizing that she accidentally got Chloé's bracelet stuck on Plagg's head in the process.
    • Chat Noir's reaction when he realizes that Chloé ended up getting herself and Marinette voluntarily kidnapped by Rogercop.
    • Reflekta when Adrien turns off the lights and Maotif shows up behind her, ready to pounce on her.
    • Adrien and Nino in "Simon Says" when Simon's challenge to hypnotize Gabriel Agreste is announced.
    • Marinette has such a moment in "Timebreaker" when her argument with Scarlet Lady gets interrupted by Timebreaker tagging Scarlet Lady.
    • Lila gets several of these in quick succession when her lies fall apart in "Volpina." The first is when Adrien tells her that he already noticed his book was missing and points out the Contrived Coincidence of her divulging her "secret" to him immediately afterwards, which is followed by him Suddenly Shouting at Lila that despite what she claimed in her lie, Scarlet Lady would never save anybody. Finally, Scarlet Lady makes herself known and proceeds to throw Lila into a nearby fountain.
    • Scarlet Lady when Volpina seeminlgy summons a bunch of missiles and aims them at the heroine.
    • When Master Fu explains how he can use the Grimoire, Adrien is horrified at the prospect of having to share any power-ups with Scar.
    • In "Kung Food," Tikki has a major one when she realizes that not only did Chloé leave her behind, the person currently holding the bag she's in is about to become an akuma.
    • Marinette and Pollen each have an epic sweating face when Pixelator manages to photograph Penny.
    • Luka when he realizes that Chloé has a crush on him.
    • Chloé has such a moment in "Silencer" when she sees Luka being akumatized right in front of her.
      Chloé: And also— Oh €%$#.
    • In "Prime Queen," Plagg says, "Oh no," as Adrien starts suspecting Marinette is Marigold.
    • Marinette has a moment of this in "Zombizou" when Scarlet Lady gets kissed.
    • Adrien in "Gorizilla" when he realizes his attempt to go incognito has been blown to hell and back by Wayhem.
    • Happens a lot in "Style Queen":
      • Pollen realizes too late that she just revealed to Marinette that she knows Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady's secret identities.
Pollen: Oh no. Tikki's going to end me.
      • Marinette when she learns Audrey Bourgeois is attending the fashion show.
      • Plagg and Tikki also have this reaction when both Adrien and Chloé are turned into statues.
        Plagg: Welp, that's a problem
        Tikki: Dangit Chloé.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Played for Laughs: as Master Fu considers giving out another Miraculous, Wayzz asks whether or not he intends to put it in the recipient's purse again.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: In "Dark Cupid" Alya wants Marinette to give a valentine to her crush. She's baffled when Marinette says she has no idea how to give it to him. Eventually they figure out that Alya means Adrien and Marinette means Chat Noir.
  • Only Sane by Comparison: Anarka isn't big on rules or authority figures, even refusing to participate in Career Day due to Roger, a cop, also being there. However, next to Jagged, she's still deemed the responsible parent by Juleka.
  • Only Sane Man: Between Alya's fangirling, Jalil's conspiracy theories, Marinette and Adrien's failure at being one, and Scarlet Lady being... well, Scarlet Lady, Alix serves as this in "The Pharaoh."
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Played With regarding Adrien. The added stress that he's under from serving as Scar's more competent 'sidekick' bleeds over into his 'regular' life, such as when he snaps at Nathalie to pass on a colorful message to his father or stands up to Chloé. These moments tend to shock his oppressors, unused to having him stand up to them.
    • Sabrina implies in "Lady Wifi" that Chloé's decision to get Alya suspended rather than just getting her into trouble strikes her as such, as it took her completely off guard.
  • Oral Fixation: Théo has a striped lollipop stick in his mouth in both the early parts of "Copycat" and the episode's splash card image. It gets crinkled up after Scarlet rejects him, reflecting his mood.
  • Origins Episode: Aside from the obvious "Origins" two-parter, "Horrificator" shows the genesis of Kitty Section, as three of its members work together to help sing Mylène's lullaby.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: What clues Adrien in Marigold's Secret Identity as Marinette in "Prime Queen". After breaking her heart saying that the kiss from "Dark Cupid" wasn't important, he saw her getting angry - until he said that he was in love with Marinette, which caused her to make a 180-turn and happily wish him luck.
  • Overly Long Gag: In the second intermission, after Nathalie forbids Adrien from going out, he dramatically laments to Plagg how Adrien (as opposed to Chat Noir) won't be able to go hang out with his friends.
Adrien: Man, Plagg. It sure sucks that Adrien isn't allowed out.
    Plagg: U-huh.
Adrien: [puts on some piano music from his phone] And that Adrien has to practice piano.
    Plagg: Sure.
Adrien: [clenching his fists as tears well in his eyes] And that Adrien
Plagg: I get it already! Just suit up!
