Provides examples of:

  • Dunce Cap: Leon Brittan wears one in the House.
  • Farce: This week's episode of The South Bank Show sees him interviewing Ray Cooney, who writers terrible plays about characters needing to dress up in drag as their own mother-in-laws and using allegedly Inherently Funny Words like "knickers" as comedy material.
  • Fetish Retardant (In-Universe): Thatcher's ideas for her new, sexy image cause Willie Whitelaw to throw up his breakfast.
  • List Song: "Just Me, This Old Guitar and God" turns into this as Reagan lists the increasing number of people who are hanging out with him in the wildnerness. He also brought the Two-Keyed Lock that he can use to start a nuclear war.
  • Nap-Inducing Speak: Sir Alastair Burnet doses off while John Cole delivers his report about how many news programmes he's been on.
  • Nepotism: One sketch is a documentary of Prince Edward's application for a place at Jesus College, Cambridge, which shows him getting a place without having to make any effort because Prince Philip is the Chancellor and because he apparently offered a knighthood to one of the dons who interviewed him.
  • The Quincy Punk: The audience at home watching Do They Mean Us? consists of a stereotypical punk and his elderly parents.
  • Shout-Out:
    • "The World's Favourite Destination" is a parody of the British Airways Tagline "The World's Favourite Airline".
  • Silly Prayer: Thatcher's prayer to God before she goes to bed is a stern reminder that when she asks for something, she wants it done properly and on time.
  • Shown Their Work: Chris Barrie speaks real German in the Do They Mean Us? sketch?
  • The Stinger: After the credits there's a Newsflash about Bernard Manning farting on stage at his club in Manchester that's played out like a Death Notification.
  • Take Me to Your Leader: Played with. "Just Me, This Old Guitar and God" shows the aliens going straight to the White House.
