Trolltrace is about to become available, and its consequences become a reality to Cartman and a town called Fort Collins.

"Fort Collins" contains examples of:

  • Art Shift: Fort Collins is drawn in a more realistic and detailed style than South Park.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Heidi figured out that skankhunt42 wasn't one of the students or teachers at South Park Elementary by creating an Emoji Analysis that determines who created a social media post based on what emojis an individual typically uses and whether they are in the text of the post. Kyle is suitably impressed.
  • Black Dude Dies First: MLKKK, the lone black troll from the alliance, is the first to get outed for trolling and is burned to death by the father of one of his victims.
  • Brick Joke: Cartman's drawing of a vagina with balls comes back in the design of the Mars colony, consisting of vulva-shaped towers with ball-shaped metal structures at the bottom.
  • Broken Pedestal: DildoSchwaggins when he learns that Gerald doesn't consider his Trolling some sort of statement against society, but just a way to get cheap laughs.
  • The Bully: Gerald. He only became skankhunt42 for kicks, and DildoSchwaggins tells him that he's no better than any of the bullies that led him to start trolling in the first place.
  • The Cameo: The woman who was forced to take part in the HumancentiPad project along with Kyle and Junichi Takiyama from "HumancentiPad" can be seen as a Fort Collins resident during the chaos.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: When Kyle says that Heidi is smart, and Cartman is offended that he didn't also say she was funny.
  • Idiot Ball: Cartman may have been able to save himself had he just told Heidi that he had said something sexist online before genuinely changing his ways. Instead, he freaks out and lies to her, despite Heidi well knowing what kind of person he was in the past. The sexist post doesn't really make a difference at all. Therefore, if she does eventually find out, he'll be in an even deeper hole.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: For insulting a random man's handicapped daughter, MLKKK is burned to death.
  • Everyone Has Standards: DildoSchwaggins finds out Gerald is exactly the kind of bully that drove him into an inferiority complex and made him a troll in the first place, and calls him out on it.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Everything the Member Berries do is pure Refuge in Audacity but this is most prevalent when they're driving in a little car singing along to the car radio while there's another one in the trunk who they cheerfully say they're gonna kill.
  • Foreshadowing: During the Member Berry Experimentation scene, Randy pours acid over the Berry in the clamps. Seeing what's happened a few episodes later, it should've been apparent that Member Berries can't be digested.
  • Forgot Flanders Could Do That: Randy analyzes the Member Berries scientifically, bringing to mind his exploits in much earlier episodes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Mr. Garrison, to an extent.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Denmark officially sunk lower than Gerald did when they continue TrollTrace even after their actions actually killed people.
  • Hypocrite: Gerald when he says "People should be able to use the Internet without getting harassed."
  • Insult Backfire: When Gerald tells DildoSchwaggins that he only became a troll for cheap thrills, DildoSchwaggins angrily asks him how he'd feel if someone Photoshopped a dick into his wife's mouth just for a laugh. As it turns out, that's Gerald's phone screensaver!
  • It Amused Me: Gerald tells DildoSchwaggins that he has no greater purpose for his trolling than some cheap laughs, unlike the other trolls, who have deep-seated inferiority complexes due to years of bullying.
  • It's All About Me: Even after Randy tells Garrison not to make his next speech about himself, he still does this, not mentioning the Member Berries even once. (Though to be fair, they had lost them by then.)
  • Jerkass: Gerald to DildoSchwaggins, who compares him to the bullies that made him begin trolling.
  • Karma Houdini: Subverted. Cartman thinks that he can get away with framing Jimmy for a misogynistic comment he made until Heidi reminds him of her Emoji Analysis.
  • Made of Indestructium: Member berries (though apparently not to each other). Ostensibly, a human digestive system will destroy them too, given they first appeared as a food item.
  • Meaningful Echo: Cartman's fantasy of a Mars base shaped like a vagina with balls shows that he is still misguided about women and hasn't really changed fundamentally.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: After being insulted by Gerald, DildoShwaggins refuses to listen to him when he tries to tell him about what happened to MLKKK.
  • Never My Fault: Proving he hasn't really changed, Cartman does everything in his power to shift the blame for the offensive comments he made after seeing Ghostbusters.
  • No Social Skills: DildoSchwaggins is convinced Gerald is one of his friends just because they had a one time alliance to save themselves.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gerald and DildoSchwaggins throw those at each other; Gerald to Dildo for being a troll with no life, and Dildo to Gerald for being no better than the bullies that drove him to trolling in the first place.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: MLKKK attempts to flee Fort Collins, when his Internet history is released to the public and the father of one of his trolling victims has learned who he is and where he lives. He doesn't get far.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Cartman's Mars fantasies are very similar to scenes from The Martian.
    • The Member Berries highway scene is similar to the opening of Goodfellas.
    • The scene where Randy is shown trying to destroy the Member Berries while the rest of them are observing this process on the kitchen counter is somewhat similar to the scene in Sausage Party where the food is shown on the counter witnessing their food friends being murdered/eaten.
  • String Theory: Heidi has an entire wall for her Emoji Analysis.
  • Take That!: During his speech in which he pleads his supporters to vote for Hillary Clinton (even addressing her by name, instead of "Turd Sandwich"), Mr. Garrison refers to Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a Happy Days reunion episode.
  • Time for Plan B: The Member Berries sacrifice one of their own to spike the martini of Mr. Garrison's running mate, Caitlyn Jenner.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Nobody notices the Member Berries driving a tiny car. It's understandable that the other motorists wouldn't see them, but the pedestrians on the side of the road?
